Guppykit was still reeling with the thought of being caught, dragged back into camp and told off by Ratstar. Maybe even have their apprentice ceremony delayed. "Huh?" He managed, dragging his gaze away from the place Pantherclaw had disappeared and focusing again on Fisherkit. "Oh, it's um, south... south of here. Near the border, according to Ratstar. I'm not sure how far that is but it can't be too far away."

"You're right," Fisherkit meowed. "Our land can't be that big." He spun around in a circle and looked a bit confused. "Um... which way's south?" He remembered being told the sun rises in the east and sets in the west but he always mixed up his north and south.
Pikekit raised his tail into the wind to test the way the breeze blew, because someone had once told him it always blew from the north and who was he to question that? "Umm, this way, I think! C'mon guys, we gotta hurry!" And with that he charged off into the brush, golden tail disappearing into the faded green ferns.

Guppykit was happy Pikekit knew, because he was completely uneducated when it came to directions. He would have actually just wandered off in the opposite direction of Pikekit, mostly because there was a pretty bit of fern that way. But with his friend charging forward he felt as though their paws were on the right path and he squealed with delight as he followed, "we'll be there in no time!"
all their names are water related and it's cute every time i respond ;-; <3

"Yeah!" Fisherkit meowed giving Guppykit an encouraging little shoulder bump. "Let's hurry before Pikekit gets too far ahead of us." The thought of being left behind didn't bother him but the thought of being lost and alone did. If the three of them remained together everything would work out fine. "Hey! Wait up for us!"

Guppykit followed along, taking in his surroundings as they went, "it doesn't look so different from camp," he observed, noting the patches of frosted ferns and the moss on the base of several trees. "I bet it's easy to learn your way around."
Pikekit had forged ahead a little ways, but quickly the surrounded wilderness became more and more daunting without the presences of his friends at his side, so he'd slowed to wait for them. "Yeah, innit cool out here!" he piped once they appeared from the brush, his grin not revealing his mounting anxiety.

"You're probably right," Fisherkit responded to Guppykit's comment. "It doesn't look like it would be too hard to figure out." But inwardly he had his doubts. Maybe it would be harder than they thought.
"You said it!" Fisherkit replied upon hearing Pikekit's words. Parting some weeds, he appeared beside Pikekit. "I didn't know how much until now."

Leaping over a small fallen branch Guppykit grouped back together with his friends, feeling as though they were the three more powerful cats in the clan. Here they were, kits, and able to navigate the territory with no difficulty. Why did it take so long to be apprentices? "You know," Guppykit mewed, leading them on towards the sound of a creek, "I bet if they knew how easy we took to the territory Ratstar wouldn't make us wait so long. I bet not all kits could do this!"

"Yeah!" Fisherkit agreed. "It would be so cool if that would happen. I've been a kit for ages already." He pricked his ears at the sound of running creek water. "Hey! I think we're getting closer to the ocean! I hear water running." This was too easy! It didn't make any sense why they had to be cooped up inside the camp until they're apprentices.
Ambling between his friends, his ears swiveled forward to catch the sound of trickling water. The ocean! "Hey guys, hear that? I think we're getting closer! We should race to see who's the fastest," he challenged behind a devious grin.

"You're on!" Fisherkit meowed happily as he took off running. "I'll see it before either of you do!" He zoomed past the other two toms churning up bits of dirt and snow in his haste. The trickling sound grew louder the farther he ran. Suddenly he came to a skidding stop. There before him ran some water in a small groove in the earth. It looked to be about ten or so cat lengths wide but many uncountable cat lengths long. Disappointment showed on his features as he gazed at the running water. "So this is the ocean?" he asked dismally. "I thought it would be much bigger than this." He flicked a small pebble into the water and watched it sink to the bottom.

Guppykit scampered after Fisherkit, growling playfully as his paws caught in the snow, "hey! No fair!" His voice was playful as he broke through the bit of dead underbrush and to the edge of the stream. The orange and white cat paused, considering the sluggishly moving water carefully, "I don't know... it doesn't seem like the ocean. Roachpelt said the ocean was big and kinda round, this is skinny, like a tail!"

"You're right, this can't possibly be the ocean we've heard so much about. But it is kinda cool anyway," Fisherkit meowed. "I've never seen so much water in one place before." All his limited knowledge about water was confined to what he had seen in the camp. "This is much better than the puddles we splashed in behind the nursery." He tentatively stuck a paw in the running water and then immediately pulled it back out. "It's as cold as snow!" he exclaimed before licking his foot. "But it sure tastes fresh an' clean."
By time Pikekit caught up, huffing and puffing, he'd missed the whole 'this can't be the ocean' revelation, his ears flattening in disappointment. "Aww, dung! It's so tiny!" He weaseled his way in between his friends and stretched his chin out, observing the rippling Pikekit reflection staring back at him. "Hey, I'm pretty cute!"

"You think so?" Fisherkit mewed mischievously. Suddenly he swatted the running water and splashed Pikekit. Unfortunately some of the water hit Guppykit too. His splashing caused the water to ripple and distorted their reflections. "There!" he laughed. "That's an improvement for you. You look all wiggly."
"Hey!" Pikekit laughed, his grin growing larger as he dipped a paw into the stream, flinging even more water back at Fisherkit (and poor Guppykit). He quickly darted away before he could get splashed again, clambering onto a few rocks perched on the bank. "Betcha can't get me up here!" He teased, preparing to run again but unknowingly his paws had little traction on the slick stones.

"Bet I can!" Fisherkit meowed before shaking the water off his fur. "Come on, Guppykit! Let's get 'em!" He followed Pikekit onto the rocks unaware of their slipperiness. This was so much fun!
