Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
We are going to use a little time magic here... this thread takes place the day after the zombie attack, which happened right after SunClan temporarily moved into MoonClan territory. When the sun rose, the undead fell, and with it the nightmare finally ended. At least, the part that Bloodystar couldn't control. There were still dozens of critically wounded cats that needed his attention and for once he was without the resources to do it. He never fully understood how blessed SunClan had been with herbs and healers until the exact moment he had none at all.
After a few tense hours, however, most of the emergencies had been settled, all except for one: What to do with the bodies? Bloodystar had no way of knowing if or when they would rise up again. Something had to be done, and fast, for the Clan could not handle a second wave, they barely handled the first.
"SunClan," Bloodystar had gathered the able-bodied Clan members, Warriors and apprentices mostly, as he gave them their orders, "Soon we will move the bodies back onto SunClan territory. We will cross the river where it is most shallow and bury them just on the other side. I wish we could take them where they belong in the sunflower fields, but... for now, this is the best I can do," He motioned toward an array of paints he had had collected from MoonClan herbs. They colors were more cool-toned, not at all SunClan standard, but they would have to do. They had a bitter smell to them, like garlic, "However, we will need to take special precautions to make sure that they dead do not rise again. We will draw the symbol of death on their foreheads and all four paws... and then..."
This was the hard part. Any cat who was watching Bloodystar's face could tell even he was struggling with this, "We will put stakes in their paws, remove their heads, and bury them all face down. This is the only way we can know for certain that they will not rise again and it must be done before sunset."
Goldengrace's ears pressed tightly against the sides of her head and she struggled to swallow down the bile that threatened to rise in her throat. Just hearing Bloodystar describe it made her want to be sick.
It felt like desecration, but the grim reality was the dead had proven to be a very real threat.
That didn't make the fact any easier to process.
Tenebrouspaw though was glad Bloodystar wasn't being mousebrained. The cats were dead, they should prioritize getting them staked, decapitated and in the ground as fast as possible.
Just having faced Mountainsound when he thought her dead had been scary enough, and she'd turned out to be alive. He'd rather not face an actual undead.
"I don't see why we don't just find MoonClan and ask them how to deal with it." Earthpaw grumbled, as he circled one of the bodies warily. He hadn't been in camp when the attack had gone down but he wasn't about to take any chances.
"It was probably MoonClan who cursed the land in the first place because we took it." Honestpaw said offhandedly, he was trying his hardest not to pick out Tranquilpaw's body out of the pile.
"Yes, let's go ask the clan we drove off from their own territory how to deal with the undead. They'll either lie and make it worse or just laugh in our faces." Tenebrouspaw groused to Earthpaw, ears flattening. "You weren't there in all the chaos, better we just honor them and then get the job done."
Bleedingheart looked like she was going to be sick. This did not seem right at all, certainly just burying them had to be enough. The painting part didn’t bother her and did make sense. But there was no way she would decapitate her dead clan-mates, even if they had risen from the dead last night. It just did not sit right with her, would they even be able to find the afterlife like that? Perhaps they only had risen again because they could pass on because they where not buried on SunClan territory.
Festeringfruit hadn't been in camp during the attack, but looking over the myriad bodies, he was glad he had missed it. He had been feeling a little vulnerable lately, his chest skin open and exposed every since his apprentice pulled away half of his curly fur, and he'd taken some time to himself after the fire. Now he had found himself back to his mate, however, and stood supportively by her side.
Well. Sort of supportive.
"That is so gruesome," he meowed approvingly. "What do you think, Goldengrace? Which of your old friends do you want to take care of first?"
Dragonpaw looked sick. The attack had been sudden and straight from his nightmares, but it felt like justice: hadn't he been thinking how good their toasted bodies smelled? He felt so bad now. "Yeah, can't we leave them for MoonClan?" he mumbled.

Weed had nearly collapsed outside the nursery. Exhaustion etched across the contours of her face as she lay on the ground. She had been going between helping Pollendrone and fighting the living dead. Her body ached, and she barely registered what Bloodystar was saying until a shrill wail broke through her hazy thoughts.
"N-no!" Snakepaw wailed. The small tom hadn't stopped shaking, nor had he left his father's side since he had suddenly collapsed. The tabby still wasn't sure what happened. He glanced over Oakshade's corpse, fur bristling and tears finally streaming down his cheeks. When he finally took a few steps forward before falling back on his haunches. "P-Please, Bloodystar...! I-isn't there another w-way..?!"
"Well I'm just saying, if they cursed it they can uncurse it, and then take this wretched land back while they're at it." the warrior size tom hissed. "We should of never have come here in the first place." Earthpaw's tail lashed with unease his brown eyes uncertain. "It would be better than cutting the heads off our clan mates..."
“Anything would be better than cutting off their heads.” Bleedingheart snapped. The wails of Spiderpaw broke something in the normally calm and collected she-cat. She brushed past Bloodystar to lay next to the apprentice. She tried to soothe him by grooming his head and shoulders. The poor tom had lost his father and his mother was currently deep in grief herself. Of course she knew Snakepaw very little, but figured anything that even resembled concern might be comforting. Not to mention she felt for all those who had lost family. “Don’t you think the families of these poor cats could be excused and not have to witness the violation of their deceased loved ones?” In a rare moment of bravery she challenged Bloodystar, all the while curled next to the semi-hysterical apprentice.
At the sound of her littermate's wails Cherrypaw bounded over from her place nearby Dragonpaw so that she was now pressed close to Snakepaw. There was nothing she could say of course, but she averted her gaze from her father's corpse, just the lingering mental image of him was enough to make her stomach turn. "Don't worry Snakepaw, I won't let them do anything to our father." she tried to assure him. Already she was looking around the clearing, maybe she could use some paint to make him look less... gruesome. Nova

Tinymutiny hadn't moved from Oakshade since he collapsed as the sun arose, she had been curled at the curve oh his belly with his leg draped over her side even though it had long since went stiff and reeked of decomposition. However one good thing had come of this, the reality of his death setting in dragging her back mostly to her sanity. Though now she was deep in the throws of depression and mourning for the loss of her mate, finally accepting that his soul had moved on from his body now that he had "died" before her and she hadn't been ripped from his body. She looked meek and frail, the fight that had once defined her fleeting unable to even comfort her children. She hadn't hear Bloodystar's words, only Snakepaw's shrieks that brought her out of her trance though she didn't move from her position.
Magnoliapaw began to wail "No I won't let you do that to poppa" moving beside of Snakepaw, and draping her tail over her shoulders Nova
Ferventpaw, straightened tears stinging her eyes as they fell upon her fallen sister. She had fought so hard to save her, "Its my fault" she sobbed, the cobwebs around her throat stained crimson from when Tranquilpaw had tried to kill her, she struggled to her paws stumbling towards Bloodystar "I prayed for the Sun God to bring my sister back to us" Jadie

Snakepaw had leaned against Bleedingheart, appreciating her effort at comfort. But what could the warrior do? The moment he saw Cherrypaw and felt Magnoliapaw's tail across his shoulders, the young apprentice broke. He looked between his two sisters, and then dared a glance back at his parents. The sight was enough to finally break the normally light hearted tom. He choked on his sobs as he leaned against his sisters. "T-They can't d-do this..." He cried. "N-Not to d-dad... M-Mom... what would i-it do to m-mom this time..." He whimpered. racer @samiam @atomheart
"All of SunClan is a family, Bleedingheart. Sparing one able-bodied cat the gruesome task only puts twice the pressure on someone else. No, we must do this together," Bloodystar said, padding over to Tranquilpaw's corpse. As he approached her he heard Ferventpaw's confession but did not outwardly react to it. Instead, he had tunnel vision on the throat of his adoptive daughter, a cat he had known since her birth and raised with all of the best intentions. He drew the symbols onto her body as previously described, "We won't do more than mark their bodies for now... we will decapitate them back on SunClan territory."
"Tinymutiny..." Valleypaw had come to terms with her father's death, but didn't know how to handle her mother. Oakshade had been the only cat that could do that. Without him, the family was in shambles, no one was taking the lead.
So. She'd have to.
"Bloodystar's right. We can't have them attacking us again, we'll all die," She said through tears as she, too, began to gather up the paint. She wouldn't try to move Tinymutiny, she didn't need to to put the markings in place, "Magnoliapaw. Snakepaw. Help me..."
"Don't be silly Ferventpaw, it's not your fault zombies attacked, it's MoonClan's for cursing the land after we took it. The Sun God can't control what happens on Selene's land and besides He's dead anyway." Honestpaw said dismissively with a flick of his tail, moving over to Tranquil's body and copying the symbols Bloodystar marked on his sister's pelt. racer
Cherrypaw moved away from Snakepaw only to help Valleypaw paint the signals on Oakshade's pelt as instructed. The artist took extra care to make the symbols look pristine and flawless, turning even the most harrowing task into a work of art. Jadie

Snakepaw looked over at Valleypaw, shaking his head. He couldn't do it. He couldn't prepare his father's body for such mutilation. But when he watched Cherrypaw get up, the small tom swallowed thickly as he forced himself to take deep even breaths. The fluffy tabby quickly dragged his paws across his cheeks, trying to dry his tears despite the fact that they continued to flow down his cheeks. He took one last look at his mother before averting his gaze. He dipped one shaky paw into the paint and slowly started tracing the symbol that Bloodystar had shown them onto Oakshade's forehead, doing his best to blink back the tears that formed in his eyes
Bleedingheart bit back a retort about how SunClan was one big family. If he really meant that they were beyond dysfunctional. While yes she had grown close to these cats and considered them her new family, it was not the same as a blood tie. Granted Bleedingheart had no relatives in the clan, so she did not have to fight the grief as hard as some. But it did not seem right to make Oakshade’s children decapitate his body. Never mind the fact that his mate hadn’t moved from his body.
Seeing the apprentices starting the ritual, she sighed. Someone had to help them with their mother. “Tinymutiny, how about you come with me? Let your children say their goodbyes.” She spoke softly to the devastated she-cat as she gently nudged her up and out of the embrace of death she had been staying. racer

Ferventpaw stumbled forward tears streaking down her face, until she collapsed beside her sister's corpse. The skin still burned and blistered, ripped open during the fight He nose touching Tranquilpaw's shoulder as Bloodystar painted on the death symbols onto her pelt, but for once there were no prayers flooding from her lips only quiet sobs. Her eyes squeezed tightly closed as if trying to block out a nightmare "i'm sorry Tranquilpaw" she whispered
Bleedingheart's nudge seemed to break Tinymutiny out of her trance, her eyes moving up to see the death symbol being placed onto his body. Leaping upwards and spreading her self as far as she could to cover the corpse that was much larger than herself and knocking several of their kits out of the way as she frantically began licking the symbols from his pelt the thick blues and purples coating her tongue and muzzle "No...No...NO!" she screamed at all the cats that came to close, pushing anyone that got to close away forcefully, frantically trying to clean him from what she considered to be an abomination. The thick bitter tasting paint causing her to nearly foam at the mouth as she tried to clean her mate's pelt "Stop" she begged and pleaded "No I have to take him to the sunflower fields" her head whipping around to smack Magnoliapaw away when she got to close "No this is wrong" she wailed "If you all won't help me bury him properly I'll do it myself just go away" she ordered, moving to grab his scruff, trying to drag his body away, but to weak to budge the stiff corpse @atomheart @samiam JadieNovaPhantom

Snakepaw quickly jumped back, hurrying away from his mother and knocking the paint over in the process. His fur bristled as his claws quickly slid out of their sheaths. His sides started heaving again as his breaths came in quick gasps. Snakepaw's eyes were narrowed as he stared blankly at his mother, almost as if he couldn't recognize who she was. His small body shook as he tucked his tail between his legs, lowering himself to the ground to make himself look smaller than he was.
"Hey!" Cherrypaw hissed in annoyance at first, when her mother had frantically started to wash away the symbol she had work hard on to at least make look nice on her father's pelt. Then once more when Snakepaw knocked over the paints, though she couldn't blame her brother for that. It wasn't his fault that their mom was literally insane half the time.
"Mom stop, it's pointless, we couldn't even get to the burial grounds even if we could dragged his body back to SunClan."
Jumping back when Tinymutiny leapt up and lost her mind. So this was not what she had thought would happen. It was good that she was now up and moving, but the whole moving Oakshade halfway across the forest clans was less than ideal. Her heart broke for the she-cat, she too had to bury a mate and kits once. It was a horrid experience and a certain someone who did not seem to care that even his adopted daughter was dead, was not helping. “Oh dear.” She fretted as she watched the chaos of Tinymutiny and then Snakepaw’s break down. But it looked like her children would calm her down.
Turning to Snakepaw she started to lead him a fox length away from his mother. Bleedingheart had never had a panic attack before and don’t know what to do. But it seemed logical to remove him from the situation. So she blocked his line of sight with her body, standing between him and his mother. She really just wanted to yell at Bloodystar to show some compassion and respect family wishes. Yet he did have a bit of validity in his plans considering the corpses had risen to life the night before.
