The stone steps were quiet, the ancient Janus making no sounds as they walked across the smooth sandstone steps. Here Littlecrow felt strong and powerful, like the High Priest she was meant to be instead of the disgraced prisoner that she had become. Yet here she was, while her former promised had been unable to enter. In her mind, that was a strong enough reason so believe that her actions had been justified while his had been wrong. Here she could escape the pain and agony of her physical body, and begin preparing for what was to come. Instead of wating around idle, she had been gathering knowledge and skills for the coming storm, getting ready for the inevitable. cookie
Dapplebreeze looked around in awe. This place amazed her. With everything going on, she felt isolated from her fellow Janus. Coming here gave her a reprieve and a chance to learn. There was infinite knowledge at her clawtips and all she had to do was ask for it.
The days kept passing and the she-kit could barely be called a kit anymore. Any larger and she could start practicing climbing the steps to The Eternal Flame. Briefly, she wondered if Pebblekit was Pebblepaw now - or if he was even alive. Her brother had gone missing right before Bloodystar's takeover. Then she stopped thinking about him, because who really cared? Dapplebreeze had removed herself from her unsavory family and was now a Janus. She had more important things to worry about, and this was her source of pride.
As she descended the stairs and stared at the tunnels all around her, Dapplebreeze picked the first one to her left. No sense spending forever picking one. She was bound to learn something regardless. But to her surprise, the first cat she saw was not a mystical glowing Ancient. It was her old High Priestess, Littlestar - well, Littlecrow.
Dapplebreeze surged forward in excitement, calling out, "Littlestar! It's me, Dapplebreeze!" There was no way she expected the Priestess - okay, she had to stop calling her that - to recognize or remember her. They hadn't really interacted before. Still, the spotted Janus surged forward with sparkling eyes.

"Dapplebreeze" Littlestar greeted warmly, for here she was still considered the High Priestess, radiant as ever the moon carved into her forhead erased "It is good to see you, you have grown since we last spoke" she lowered her muzzle until it gently nuzzled against hers. If she wasn't a Janus she would probably be called Dapplepaw now instead of Dapplebreeze "I hope that you are faring well, with everything happening in SunClan" her comment was genuine, for she truly did care about the members of her clan. She had many questions that she wanted to ask the Janus about how her clan was doing, but it wasn't the time for that. Dapplebreeze had come here seeking knowledge, and she was only to happy to oblige
"The fact that you have managed to find me, means that you have a question for me" she added after a moment "What is it that you would like to know?"
Dapplebreeze had originally planned on learning how to be the best Janus. But it seemed like the Ancients had something else in mind for her, because Littlestar stood in front of her now in all her glory. She was mystifying. And her words made so much sense to Dapplebreeze that the question fell from her mouth immediately, without her even having fully thought it out.
"I want to help you be High Priestess again. This isn't the SunClan I became a Janus for." And perhaps she would get a lecture now about how being Janus meant being loyal to the clan no matter the leader, but Dapplebreeze was growing to be quite a Bloodystar detractor. She was still too young to pick her words carefully or to remember how bad SunClan had at one point been, so she continued, "You're my Priestess, not Bloodystar. So my question is: How can I help you make SunClan glorious again?"

"Young one, you are already doing it" she pressed her nose to the she-cat's head firmly, a purr rumbling in her chest before take a step back "Just like the Sun God, I to shall return when the time is right. All I need from you is to stand strong, and have faith" she blinked, motioning for her to follow as the tunnel opened up into a beautiful garden one that Dapplebreeze would recognize from her first time inside the Temple of The Sun. She walked to where some of the herbs that were once thick and green lay shriveled and dying at their feet "Just like the herbs around us, nothing lasts forever. There comes a time when the old must be allowed to die" she lifted her paw moving the shriveled roots aside to reveal the sprouts of bright green underneath. She took her claws, sprinkling some of her blood onto the sprouts "so that we can return stronger than ever before" she she spoke the sprouts began to grow before their eyes, growing and growing until they towered over the two cats
"Even the Sun God wasn't immune to time, becoming slowly currupted until I was left with little choice. To destroy what he had become in the hope of a better future, or watch as SunClan was destroyed for good. We must put our Faith in his return, and ready ourselves for his return. The time to act will come, so instead of waiting idly by, I have been preparing myself as should you. Learn everything you can to help in the battle to come. The Sun God will have need of all his chosen if we are to restore SunClan to the way things are meant to be"
Her eyes were wide as she watched the plant grow above her. How did Littlestar have so much power here? Dapplebreeze wanted to learn how to do that, too.
"Help me prepare then," she said, determination radiating off of her. Then she added, "Please."
She was lost. Did she need to learn medicine? How to fight? Helping SunClan was such a big job.

Littlestar slowly nodded "Very well, come and visit me often. Whenever I am able to, I spend my time here instead of my physical body. So long as I am here, all you shall have to do is think of me and take a tunnel and you will find me, but there will be times I am stuck in the physical world" she didn't go into to many details, assuming that the young Janus would have figured out that by now how the tunnels worked or at least had a general idea. She moved away from the herbs instead turning to Dapplebreeze "First show me how much you have learned while I have been away" they walked returning to the arena that would also be familiar to her. It was where the other janus had tried to play capture the flag. She had been to young at the time to participate, as she pointed at the ribbon still tied onto the tallest of the tree branches where Littlestar had placed it when Dappledbreeze was only just a kit "Retrieve it"
Her eyes hardened. She had to impress Littlestar. This was of utmost importance to her. Now that she was bigger, as long as nothing got in her way, she could get that ribbon.
Dapplebreeze took off at a sprint for the tree, jumping as she reached it with her claws out to sink into the trunk.

Littlestar sat down, her tail curling over her paws as she watched the she-cat retrieve the ribbon. Now that she was older it wasn't nearly as difficult of a task, but she had her retrieve it for a reason. As Dapplebreeze emerged victorious she approached, taking the ribbon gently from her paws and tied it gently on the she-cats paw "Use this from now as a symbol between the two of us. If you have need to me, take this ribbon and tie it back at the top of the tree. When I see it, I will know to wait for you" as she spoke the two males lions from before emerged, in their adolescent form. She looked to them and dipped her head before turning her attention back to the Janus "In the mean time it is time to see where you are at with your skills in battle. Our friends here have agreed to help with your training, but they will not harm you. Their goal is to take your ribbon away from you, all you have to do is last until the sun is at it's highest point and you will win this exercise. You can run, hide, fight, use whatever strategy best suits you"
One tight nod. Yes, she could do that. The ribbon was soft against her paw. "I'm going to make you proud, Littlestar," said Dapplebreeze, eyeing the two lions with determination in her yellow gaze. "Watch me."
With that, the Janus took off at a dead run. The one thing she had always had on her side - the older she had gotten, the more she had noticed it - was speed. Dapplebreeze was lithe. She had no great strength, but running slow enough to maintain endurance was a skill she was desperate to hone. She knew she could do it, especially with tasks like these to teach her. She was incredibly grateful to Littlestar for this. racer

One of the lions changed before, becoming smaller and more lean as they raced after her. Dapplebreeze was fast, but the lions had longer strides and would soon be closing in on her. The other one created a wider circle, working on getting ahead of the pair while she focused on the one on her heels. She would be able to feel it's warm breathe on her heels, hearing the loud crack as it nipped at the air.
Dapplebreeze felt fear tingle at her spine. Just because Littlestar had said the lions wouldn't hurt her didn't mean she wasn't aware of those sharp teeth right behind her. The Janus tried to push herself harder but was beginning to feel tired - exactly what she didn't want. She needed to slow down. But if she slowed, she'd be caught. As she ran, Dapplebreeze began to look around, seeking a place where she could take refuge and catch her breath.
There - not too far. There was a tangle of scraggly bush-like plants. She raced toward it, hoping that the little hole she noticed near the bottom was large enough for her to squeeze through. With what felt like an enormous stroke of luck, she fit through and only lost a tuft or two of fur on the plant. Dapplebreeze whipped her head around, finding a way to turn in the bush to peer out at the lions that had been chasing her.
Or .. the lion. The one lion? Wait, where was the second?

The lion that had been chasing her, stumbled backwards as it hit the prickly undergrowth but the other one had already circled around reaching its paw into the bush towards the small she-cat.. But it seemed as if she was lucky, it couldn't quite reach her but it wouldn't stop the two of them from pushing their way through with a little bit of time, claws slashing and teeth nipping at branches
She had to think fast. The lions were closing in, and she couldn't stay safe here forever. Whether she wanted to or not, she needed to get out of the bush. Dapplebreeze remained a little longer, letting them claw and bite a bit more so she could regain energy. Then, with a burst of vigor, she surged forward and began to swipe at the nose of the lion through the hole. The ribbon was still on her paw, but Dapplebreeze kept an eye on it. Having the lion take it with its teeth when she had only just begun would be horrible.

The lion almost grabbed the ribbon, but missed by just a hair. Stumbling backwards as blood began to well up on it's nose from the well aimed strike, leaving an opening for her to escape the bush
Dapplebreeze took her chance and shot out, running away again. She had to do this all morning? Maybe there was a trick to Littlestar's words. The sun at its highest point ... could that mean something besides the obvious? She wanted to ask for a hint, but pausing to chat while lions were after her ribbon was plain dumb.

[hehe your catching on XD]
The two young lions gave chase, working together to herd the young she-cat where they wanted her to go. One would dart in an nip, while the other would block her path. They were faster and stronger than the young she-cat and clearly used to working together.
Littlestar sat down on her rock, laying her head upon her paws while she watched the training exercise.
Tiring out, Dapplebreeze took a chance to let herself be herded closer to Littlestar. Asking her would be now or never.
"Priestess!" she panted, eyeing the lions behind her before realizing it was slowing her running. She turned back around and grimaced. "Please give me some advice! I don't know if I can do this on my own!"
Dapplebreeze thought this over. Within her was the Sun God's will?
"Sun God," she said, gritting her teeth. "I've never lost my faith in you. Out of everything that has happened, you know this." She suddenly stopped running, skidding to a halt and barely keeping herself from toppling over. The Janus had mere moments to do this. She whipped around and faced the lions right behind her. In just a couple seconds, they'd have her ribbon or she'd pass this test.
It was now or never. She let herself breathe and thought about her faith. It was ... unwavering. Somehow, still.
"Come get this ribbon, lions," smiled Dapplebreeze, her yellow eyes glinting like the sun. "But the sun in me has never been higher. I doubt you'll be able to take it."
