Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. A series of loud squeaks filled the air, as an almost jet black ferret came barreling out of tunnel fleeing as an auburn she-cat chased after it. At her heels was a solid white ferret chattering away as they gave chase. Fallpaw pounced, but ended up tumbling over herself over and over again as the black ferret escaped her grasp and fled back into another tunnel entrance "MOUSE DUNG" she cursed, getting to her paws and shaking out her coat. She had spent all day trying to catch it, and it still got away. She looked like a mess, dust and dirt caking her auburn pelt, muddy paws, and tail bristled into dried points
Pumpkinking had been hunting nearby, he'd just located a nice nest of mice and caught a few good and plump ones that he'd buried for later.
Then he'd heard the sound of loud squeaks and his head snapped up from the ground, ears swiveling as he tried to locate the sound. His eyes gleaming, was he about to stumble upon another lucky catch?
The squeaks were getting louder and he heard scrabbling paws, the sound of something working it's way out of a tunnel and he darted over to the source of it.
Only to see a sleek black shape of something thin and furry dart into another small tunnel while a muddy and very dusty she cat was shaking herself out at the mouth of another tunnel.
"Oh my, are you all right?" Pumpkinking asked, he didn't recognize this she cat, but it seemed rather odd for a cat to emerge from the tunnels. "You look like you got into a fight with the earth, and the earth won." He noted.

"I'm quite alright" she huffed sitting down after being confronted, but the cat in front of her wasn't from DayClan... In fact nothing here really looked all that familiar, but she knew the scent from the gatherings. She had some how managed to make it all the way to SpringClan. Great.. That sounded about her luck today, but at least this tom didn't seem overly hostile, she was already exhausted and not in the mood to get into a fight "Though your assumption isn't far off from the truth, I would have caught that ferret had the tunnel not started to cave in" As she spoke Sprout wove through her paws chattering back and forth "I will be leaving now, I didn't realize how far I had chased it. Underground there are no scent markers" she rose to her shaky paws, taking a few steps limping slightly from the stone that had fallen from the roof and landed on her paw earlier during the partial cave in.
"Ferret." Pumpkinking echoed looking towards the creature she had with her. "I take it that's what that little creature is?" He asked nodding to it.
Then when she got up he noted her limping. "Oh dear, you're hurt! And if you're from DayClan that's a far trek!" He shook his head. "You should at least rest a while to recover."

As much as she hated to admit it, a rest sounded pretty nice. However, Fallpaw wasn't the most trusting of cats "As nice as that sounds, I don't believe it is very appropriate for me to remain here. This is SpringClan's land, and I don't think your leader would approve" she trailed off looking back into the darkness of the tunnel knowing she had a long journey "Besides I'm just sore, I'm sure I can manage getting back" she paused looking down at Sprout who also looked really tired "But Sprout probably should get some water... and yes she is a ferret to. I am an animal whisperer"
"If you're sore you might make it worse though, I simply must insist you rest." Pumpkinking meowed. "There is a nice pool of water that you and your ferret can drink from. As long as you take no prey and stick with me, Thistlestar won't say a word against it."
After all they had invited cats from other clans in an apprentice exchange to come to SpringClan. What difference did it make if another cat from further off took a brief moment of rest?
"But if you're troubled and worried about taking our water and resting on our land, I would like to learn more about your ferret, er, sprout was it?" He asked looking at sprout then back at her. "You'll be getting a rest, and you can enlighten me about your curious friend."

He had a good point, but it was only at his insistence that she finally relented "Very well..." she added reluctantly, moving forward a few steps to join him so that he could lead the way, Sprout never leaving the spot between her legs "What is it that you would like to know?"
"Oh where is there to even start." Pumpkinking meowed as he took the lead leading her along the border. The mountains rising beyond the border beside them.
"I haven't seen a creature like that, it looks very long... is it a type of furry snake?" He asked. "You called it a ferret, is it a sort of snake breed that has fur?"

Despite being on enemy land, she felt herself burst into laughter at his comment. A furry snake, that was a new one to be sure. Fallpaw grinned "No, she is more closely related to us than a snake" she was smiling now, feeling a lot more at ease "She is more like a fox in a very small body, they hunt rabbits in their burrows so they have to be small and slender in order to get inside effectively. Sprout usually goes in one entrance while I wait at the other. She catches one on the inside and flushes the others out for me"
"A fox you say?" Pumpkinking turned his head to study the furret, considering the little creature. "I have seen a few foxes... if it's like a fox, why is it... well white rather than red like a fox?"
The trickling of water could be heard nearby and Pumpkinking didn't even need to look before he turned his steps into SpringClan's land, guiding Fallpaw and Sprout along the bank of the stream.

"Red isn't a very useful color underground, most ferrets are brown and blend in well to the dirt. However, sprout is a little different. Her parents abandoned her because of her coloration, I had been looking for a ferret to raise anyway, so I took her. I know it sounds strange... StarClan choose me to be an animal whisperer. We work with animals to make sure the DayClan stays fed, and that we understand the predators. We all specialize in a different animal, mine just so happens to be ferrets" Fallpaw limed along, the soft sound of water reaching her ears
"Aww, that's too bad." Pumpkinking meowed. "She looks really cute all white." He meowed leading them to a small pool of water, lush grass and flowers grew around it. "Here, it's not much but it's a nice place to rest."
He sat down beside the pond and beckoned for Fallpaw and Sprout to come join him. Making sure to pick the softest patch of grass for the weary travelers.

Fallpaw settled down taking a few licks at the cool water, it felt soothing on her parched throat. The soft moss easing her sore muscles from the cave in "I think it makes her more unique" she agreed, as her ferret took a drink and curled up between her paws "What about SpringClan, do you have any animal whisperers?"
Pumpkinking shook his head. "I've never heard of them until you mentioned them. I was hoping you could maybe tell me more about them." His eyes suddenly grew wide. "Wait... is your name animal whisperers because, you can talk to animals?" He asked voice filled with awe.

Fallpaw laughed "No not quite, though some of us learn a few baisic words to the animal we specialize in. Mostly we just study and know them really well. We know how to work them, their patterns, and all of that. Its pretty important to keeping our food sources sustainable, and our clan safe from predators. We even have one who specilizes in twolegs"
"One that specializes in twolegs huh, absolutely marvelous. I am enthralled," Pumpkinking meowed tail flicking behind him. "We don't have anything like that in SpringClan. Everything's pretty plentiful and honestly it's always pretty happy and peaceful here." He sighed. "It's a good life, but it can get a bit monotonous. So please, tell me more."
He leaned in a bit. "How did you decide you wanted to learn about ferrets?"

"Sometime you just know, but...." she trailed off with a mischevious smile sliding onto her face "I would be lying if I said Glowstar's fear of them didn't pay any part in it... At the time I just wanted to be left alone by family and I thought that having a ferret would at least give me an excuse to stay out of camp. But Glowstar... well she surprised everyone" she licked sprout on the head "shes still scared out of her mind but agreed to let me keep her in camp, even try and raise one once sprout has pups. It kind of helped me to be brave to... If Glowstar could face her fear then I could face my parents"
Pumpkinking chuckled. "You must have a good relationship with your leader if you're able to not only bring a creature she fears close to her, but also urge her to face it."
He didn't have that sort of closeness with Thistlestar, though the tom was a very good noble cat.
Then he registered what she said about facing her parents.
He focused back on her, considering her. "Face your parents? Are your parents particularly imposing?" He asked
Fallpaw tilted her head, trying to figure out how to answer him. Pretty much everyone in the ForestClan knew about her parentage, seeing as in how it was revealed at the gathering but the mountain clans wouldn't have known about it "No.. its just..." she paused, before continuing with a sigh. Talking about Sprout was one thing but talking about herself and her family wasn't something she normally did much less with a stranger. Her eyes lifted meeting his gaze, but there was no judgment there only curiosity "I was raised by two mothers in DayClan, and they were both wonderful and kind. I knew that they had taken us in, but I didn't know anything about my biological parents and to be honest I never cared enough to ask" normally she would have stopped but there was something in his about his eyes that helped her stay calm
"Then at the forestclan gathering... Well I found out that my real parents were part of SunClan, and the my mothers had stolen us from them" she hadn't waited around to hear the rest of the explanation, though she had found out much more about what happened since then "Then a lot of things happened at the gathering after that, and my biological parents ended up coming to DayClan"
Pumpkinking listened nodding along as she spoke, he didn't make any move to interrupt.
When she finished he waited a moment before nodding one more. "So is it your biological parents you aren't sure how to face, or the ones who raised you... or even both?" He asked.
