For the first time since Bloodystar had become High Priest, there were no kits in the den. Littlestar and Skipstep's kits had been moved to the apprentice dens early and Angelickit, Nightmarekit and the newborns were staying with Unseenlights and Mountainsound in the Priest Promised's den. It was eerily quiet. Even the giggles next door were muted, everyone was holding their breath to see if Jetfire would wake up, or were hyper-focused on the four young ones who were not doing much better than their mother.
It make Bloodystar sick.
He'd never thought Jetfire was so miserable that her only option out was to take her and her kits' lives. It made him reluctant to trust her alone at all, so she'd had someone with her, awake and watching, for all hours of the day. He'd taken most shifts, though, adamant that he would be the first face she would see as she came to. It looked like he got his wish.
"Jetfire," The High Priest said sternly, there was no love in his voice, only judgement, "Do you have any idea what you've done?"

If I just close my eyes and open them, he will be gone. Jetfire slowly blinked, the only movement she had found herself capable of in her heavily sedated state. Each time her eyes open, her heart sank deeper and deeper into despair. Its just a nightmare, a delusion. My body is dying, he isn't really here. Yet each time her eyes opened, the blurry face of her tormentor only got closer and closer as he impatiently awaited her answer to his question. Each time, her heart beating a little faster. Wake up...Wake up... she pleaded with herself, panic beginning to well up from deep within as she body failed to head her mind's commands to move away No, no he can't be here. I'm dead she screamed internally, yet there he was unmoving.
The combination of the death berries and the herbs should have killed before help could even arrive. She could still remember when she had found out about the poison while out with her mother. How that she had never heard of anyone surviving the poison alone, and that there was little that could be done after it was absorbed into a cat's body. Her mother had meant it as a warning to never ingest the sweet smelling liquid, she probably never imagined that she would one day use it to ensure her own death... But how had he done it? How had he brought her back from the brink of death? Sure he was the High Priest, but his skills in healing were not up to par with his mother's. It made no sense. The pieces were not fitting together, her reality not lining up with what she knew to be true. Her mind and body to numb to figure it out what had happened on her own. She opened her mouth to answer, only a quiet moan escaping her lips.
"You've rested long enough. Answer me. Do you have any idea what you've done?"
Bloodystar grabbed Jetfire's jaw and jerked it upwards so he could look her more directly in the eye. There was a chance that she was really still asleep, but the fact that he saw her eyes flutter as well as the quiet groan, well, he was pretty sure.
"Fine. If you won't own up to it, then I will spell it out for you. You lost your faith. You abandoned the Sun God and choose death over his benevolence. You nearly gave up your right to the Isle and damned your soul. Caught in the crossfire were your innocent near full-term kits. It would have been one thing for you to slip away and leave on your own, but instead you decided to take them with you. Innocent kits."
He lifted her head closer still, his claws digging into her throat but not breaking the skin, "But although you did not deserve it, the Sun God blessed you as well as our young with a second chance. All five of you survived... however... the kits were all poisoned. There is no telling what the long-term effects on their health will be, but they are not well. Some may not ever be able to become full Warriors all because of the terrible choice that you made. You will have to live with that and watch them suffer.
"They will grow up knowing that their mother wanted them dead and very nearly succeeded in doing it. Each day they wake up pained by the lasting effects of the poisons they will curse your name. They will hate you and the cruel fate you gave them... That is, if they even learn the truth..."
Jetfire couldn't fight it as her head was lifted from the nest, and she was forced to stare into his eyes. So she had failed...
"You are right, I made a mistake....", her voice was weak and gravely after days of misuse and having herbs shoved down her throat. After all the careful planning, getting the right poisons, waiting until the healers were out of camp, she had still failed. Not only was she still alive, but the kits had made it through, she hadn't been able save them from Bloodystar in the end. Now that they had been born into this cruel clan, Bloodystar wouldn't let them leave so easily. But he was right about one thing... she may have failed but this was second chance. A second chance to ensure that this time it wasn't just her that made it to the next life
"I should have taken you with me" even though she didn't even the strength to hold up her head, there was flame flickering in her gaze
Bloodystar's paw jerked upward, cutting Jetfire's throat after all, and, feeling blood drip down his claw, he let go. It was a shallow wound. She probably wouldn't even feel it in her current state. But the fresh scent of her blood in the air brought him back to the panic he had experienced just a few days ago at this very spot. Blood had been everywhere and all over him. He'd had to do thinks he'd never done before, make hard decisions, even swallow his pride. Sacrifices. For her. And here she was, threatening him?
He began to laugh. A maniacal thing, short lived to be sure, but it would have carried at least as far as the Priest Promised's den. Bloodystar drew his bloodied claw up to his eye and added the red to the corner like a body-paint tear, then put his paw back onto the sandstone with dramatic flair.
"You are pathetic. Even in death you will never escape me. I'll go all the way to the Dark Forest to drag you back to my side, don't think I don't have the power to do it," Bloodystar suddenly, his breathing evening out as he gathered his bearings. He'd always been so controlled around Jetfire, but to say that he attempted suicide had rattled him would be an instatement. He cleared his throat before he spoke again, but he was still on edge, "Clearly you must be feverish to suffer such delusions... Unfortunately, I have spent too much time here already, and the Clan needs me. I will send Mountainsound to check on you." Honeystorm
Before Jetfire could properly respond to him, he exited the den, leaving her laying alone on the nest.

She tried to to stay strong, but as soon as he had left the tears started and wouldn't stop soaking a path down her cheeks. All she wanted was to get herself and her family away from Bloodystar, and she had failed. Even though she tried to be quiet, there was little doubt that her muffled sobs could be heard in the main chamber.

Mountainsound wasn't far behind Bloodyrondo, though she could smell his fading scent and Jetfire's crying as she neared. Of course he had to go and make this worse. Well, maybe he hadn't, but to be honest, she highly, highly, doubted it. Regardless, the healer carried herbs as she stepped inside, setting them down and pulling down calming herbs, lavender, chamomile, juniper, things that would ease her mind and numb the pain of her body, among other things such as helping her regain strength. "Take these, Jetfire. They will help, I promise." Her voice, as always, was soft and soothing, warm, and firm in a comforting way, like everything was bound to be alright. "How are you faring? Considering everything, I couldn't fault you for being unwell."

Jetfire didn't try to hide her tears, obediently eating the herbs that had been place in front of her. The worst thing that could happen is that Bloodystar was trying to kill her, not exactly a thought she shied away from. Even the simple motion of chewing and swallowing hurt, searing the whole way down her raw throat. But Mountainsound's presence here helped things to click into place, Bloodystar couldn't have saved her... but Mountainsound could "You should have just let us die" she replied bitterly. She had a lot of respect for Mountainsound, but in this moment she couldn't help but feel hatred towards her. She closed her eyes, trying to ignore the she-cat's presence. She knew that the old healer would never have submitted her to the torture that awaited her family, and was only trying to help... But that didn't change how she felt about the matter.

"I am here to save those who need me, even from themselves." The implication of what Mountainsound was saying was relatively clear, that Jetfire had attempted suicide, though she didn't directly say it. She didn't need to. "You needed help, and I cannot refuse aid. I understand why you feel the way that you do, however. Even still, Littlestar did not need Bloodyrondo to gloat over the dead body of one of her daughters." Her voice was soft, though she spoke the names as they were meant to be, not how Bloodystar had declared himself. Which perhaps didn't mean much to Jetfire, but it did speak to Mountainsound's thoughts on the Priest's reign.

The nuance's of Mountainsound's words were not lost on her, to most it would sound like a simple slip of the tongue but Mountainsound didn't makes mistakes like that. It was a simple way to show that she was still on her family's side without just coming out and saying it. She didn't respond immediately, the herbs starting to take affect and make her sleepy as they soothed her pain "Better dead than tormented" Mountainsound didn't know what she had been through, the lengths that she had gone to to keep her kits away from him... She had seen the way he manipulated her siblings, turning them against her parents. It made her sick to think about what he might to do to her little ones, it was a fate worse than death... "I believe the truth would torment her worse than my death"

"Perhaps. But when she gets out of here, I still believe she'll much prefer you at her side than only being able to speak to you once a year at the solstice at best." Mountainsound countered. "There is always time to change the future, Jetfire. There is no need for you to feel trapped here, and I'm here to help you get to a place where you feel safe." That last part of her words really had double meaning. It could mean feeling safe in SunClan... or agreeing to help her get out of it. Regardless, the healer didn't elaborate. Jetfire would understand, most likely. Or realize it later.

Jetfire was fighting off sleep now it’s tendrils so warm and welcoming compared to the Harsh reality she found herself in “So long as Bloodystar lives, I’ll never be free on him...” depression creeping into her voice, her eyes fluttering between being opened and being closed “Don’t you see... He’s not going to be satisfied and until everything I am has been stripped away” her voice becoming softer and softer with every word that she spoke
