Shieldheart blinked at the accusation of blackmail. He hadn't really seen it that way, but technically that was exactly what he was doing. Still, he couldn't see how else she'd listen to him and it was either going to be that or tell Amberbird and/or Chestnutpaw. The more she talked, the more his lips tugged into a smile. He hadn't expected her to do a whole 180 on her attitude, so he was just fine with her acting crabby. It wasn't like she was the first she-cat to treat him in such a way, and he'd take anything over her earlier panic.
Leaning back until he was sitting, he watched her draw the line and let out a little huff. He was tempted to move as close to the line as possible, but he had a habit of stepping into other's personal space. "Why would I sneak up on you?" he asked with an incredulous look. "No, wait, forget it. Here, we got off on the wrong paw. My name's Shieldheart and you are?" Even though they were both well-aware of who they were, he thought a fresh start would help the process a bit.
Darlingpaw watched him carefully, gauging his reaction to the first of her demands. As his first question was asked, she opened her jaws preparing to answer but he quickly dropped it. What came next truly baffled her, he was acting as if the two had never met, like this simple greeting would somehow resolve the previous disaster. "Is this real-" she stopped herself, frustration clear in her blue eyes as she reluctantly responded to his greeting with nothing but her name. "Darlingpaw."
She wasnt sure what to do, if by some chance she refused to anything he said, would he go to the medicine cat and rat her out, how far could she push the limits of their agreement before it broke, more importantly how willing was she to risk it.

"I know, I'm almost too good to be true," Shieldheart answered with a playful smirk. "Nice to meet you. Now..." he trailed off as he looked Darlingpaw up and down. He was still afraid she might unravel like before or even run away from him, so he had to handle things delicately. Swordstrike would tell him to get her to open up a little, but he couldn't imagine the apprentice wanted to do something like that. With the click of his tongue, he decided to give it a shot anyway. "So, you wanna tell me what happened to you?" His eyes widened innocently, thinking that may be enough to fool her. Sometimes, it worked on other she-cats...
The apprentices ears flattened at his question, she couldn't blame him for being curious but still she could feel her heart beginning to race. She worked hard to avoid the past, hoping that one day she would wake up and that she wouldn't remember, and now he was asking her to dive head first back into her greatest nightmare. Darlingpaw looked at him carefully, his wide eyed look almost pleading with her to spill her secrets. She took a ragged breath and diverted her gaze from his. "Nothing good, we don't talk about it." It wasn't just that she didn't want to talk about it, she couldn't, she wasn't ready.
She could feel his eyes on her as she stared at the ground. "Stop looking at me like that, it wont work like it does with your mouse-brained she-cats."

Letting out a laugh at her last comment, Shieldheart gave his head a quick shake. "Alright, alright. Just thought I'd ask." Although, he liked to think his taste in she-cats was pristine. Maybe some of them were mouse-brained, but most of them were classy and sophisticated. He was pretty sure. "Nothing good though, huh?" he grunted, not trying to pry anything from her but just acknowledging her answer. He paused for a moment with his brow furrowing in thought. He tried to think of the next step Swordstrike would take in this situation, but drew a blank. Fine. He could work out something on his own. He tried to imagine himself in Darlingpaw's position--dealing with a pile of unwanted emotions over something traumatic. Sounds familiar. What did he do to feel better?
Suddenly, Shieldheart snapped up with a lopsided grin and a glint in his eyes. "Sounds to me like you need something good now! And I'm just the guy for the job." On his paws and turning to walk away, he glanced over his shoulder. "Come on."
Darlingpaw sat there with her eyes on the tom, he was unpredictable, she had learned that in the short time spent with him and she didn't particularly like that. When Shieldheart jumped up she shot to her paws, though hers was more from being startled by his sudden movement, her tail fur fluffed out and a hiss slid from between her teeth. "How could it be fun when I'm stuck here with you?" She commented with a biting tone as he turned and strutted away.
She was just about to sit down again when he called for her to follow, gaining him yet another hiss as she reluctantly trailed after him. "You're too happy, I dont like it.. or maybe I just dont like you, I havent decided, maybe it's both." The tip of her tail was flicking back and forth, she was clearly irritated.

Normally someone as angry as Darlingpaw would get on his nerves, but since she was only a kid and not outright trying to kill him, he found her feisty personality cute. Although, knowing the source of her attitude was likely unpleasant made his chest tighten. Laughing at her jabs at him, Shieldheart continued walking while staying mindful of their proximity. "I'll grow on you," he promised with a twinkle in eyes. "But keep those insults coming! I can take it. Also, I hope you don't have plans any time soon because this is going to take a while."
"You sure think highly of yourself if you think that will happen, I'd rather lose all my fur and end up looking like Hystericstar." She trained her eyes on the back of his head, it was like he had a barrier around him preventing her harsh words from getting under his skin. It was irritating and reminded her of her mentor which was even more irritating. "I hope you aren't looking forward to me enjoying this, whatever it is, because I garuentee I wont." What had she gotten herself into... "where are we going? I dont like surprises." Her voice was muffled as she clenched her jaw, trying to calm the feeling of anger that had been bubbling inside her .

(Is that Dumbo? So cute! <3)
"Now that's just rude," he said, screwing up his face at the thought of anyone choosing a hairless fate over being around him. Surely, he wasn't that bad of company. "And if you don't enjoy it, I definitely will. So no harm done." As they continued their trek through FallClan, Shieldheart's pace became determined, indicating that they wouldn't be stopping any time soon. "If I tell you where we're going, you'll try to back out of it and that ain't happening," he replied after a while. The scent of SummerClan's border wafted into the air as they neared the edge of their territory. The warrior wasn't sure how Darlingpaw would react to his plans. Even he was a little worried, but the ends would justify the means.
(I'm not sure, but we can pretend it is xD I thought is was adorable)
Darlingpaw smirked and let out a snort. "I'm a rude cat if you hadn't noticed, you'll have to get used to it if you plan on bugging me like this." She stated matter-of-factly, she wasn't about to change because it hurt his little feelings. She kept on in silence, waiting for him to tell her what he was dragging her into, her ears perked as finally he broke the silence but they flattened quickly when instead of spilling his plan he out right refused. "Well whose being rude now, don't be shocked if this doesn't end well, I already gave you warning." She had to admit that he was probably right though, she probably would be trying harder to get away if she did know, but it didn't change the fact that not knowing was causing a knot to form in the pit of her stomach, a knot that only grew larger as the scent of Summerclan drifted to her. What is he up to..?

Not ending well wouldn't be a total surprise for Shieldheart, since he knew where they'd be going soon enough. Yet he kept quiet, not wanting to be riled up by Darlingpaw's constant fussing and also to keep their presence less obvious as their border line came into sight. It was the Southeast corner of their territory and the scent of SummerClan's markings mixed with the salty smell of the water nearby. He didn't think he could get away with striding straight into the enemy's territory without the apprentice acting up, so he came to a stop just outside it. "The fastest way for us to travel will be through here," he explained nonchalantly, like invading SummerClan was just a usual occurrence in their daily lives. "But we'll basically be on their Southern-most border, so no one' going to notice us. Probably."
The look on her face wasn't hard to read as her eyes snapped toward Shieldheart, utter disbelief was painted across her features, it danced in her blue eyes like a raging fire. "You want me to follow you into another clans territory, willingly I might add, and for what? Some stupid little idea you've managed to put in your head that you think will fix me?!" She had been relatively calm on the journey here, well calm compared to her normal state, that was gone now. "What game are you playing? Tell me why we have to cross the border or I am turning around and going home." Darlingpaw was fuming, but it wasnt all anger, mixed with the rage that dripped from every word was fear. She hadn't been out of Fallclan territory since she had been found, she had lived a hellish life out there and because of that she never risked stepping over that scent line.

She was taking it worse than he'd thought, but not wanting to spoil the fun of what could come, he decided the best way to brush off her concerns was with a show of confidence and a sense of humor. "Oh, c'mon! It'll be fun. I know this path like the back of my paw," he said with a shrug. He didn't like implying that he'd done this before--many times--but he hoped it might be compelling enough for Darlingpaw. "Don't tell me you're scared of SummerClan! All they do is sunbathe all day."
Darlingpaw stopped, her eyes narrowed slightly, there was still doubt but she forced herself to calm down enough to reply. "Are you sure it's safe?" He had done well in making it seem that way with his talk about the Summerclan cats, but she still didn't trust him completely. "I dont trust you, but against my better judgment I came anyway, if something happens out there I will leave you." She wasnt joking, she would without a doubt leave him and save herself, if she didn't completely shut down before she had the chance anyway, that was something that lingered in the back of her mind.

Shieldheart wasn't exactly pleased with the apprentice's unwillingness to have his back on the off-chance they did run into an enemy patrol. He hoped her actions wouldn't reflect her words, but he wouldn't lecture Darlingpaw on the matter. She had a new mentor to take care of that. "I'm positive," he said a-matter-of-factly, even if it was an obvious lie. "And you'd be lucky to get rid of me that easy." Turning back around, the brown and white tabby leaped over the border and let out a loud sigh. Glancing over his shoulder, he flashed her a grin. "That was a close one! Didn't know if I was gonna make it there."
She pursed her lips, eyes still narrowed and took a step forward after he jumped over the border, she was still unsure but she wouldn't let him get away with mocking her like that. "Don't come running to me if we run into trouble." She reminded coldly. She still wasn't able to wrap her head around Shieldheart, and honestly trying to understand exactly why he doing all of this was exhausting. "This is dumb." It was a mutter, but loud enough he probably heard; lifting a paw she hesitated then placed it over the scent line, her other three following shortly after. "Whats next?"

"Now we keep going!" Shieldheart replied with an unspoken "duh". "As fun as that was, I didn't ask you to cross the border so we could twiddle our paws." Even with Darlingpaw's cold reminders, the warrior just shrugged it off as teasing, which he made sure to deliver right on back. She probably didn't appreciate it, but he was practically glowing from the banter. It reminded him of when him and his brother were younger and bickered like this all the time. Now, they were lucky if their banter didn't turn into a heated argument. Just another reason for him to want to hang around the she-cat. She was like the snotty little sister he always wanted.
"So, before we get too over our heads here... Do you have any other... fears I should know about? Or it is just the whole personal space thing?" he cautiously asked as he strode deeper into SummerClan's territory.
Darlingpaw opened her mouth and moved it without making a sound, mocking his words. She waited until he wasnt looking directly at her and stuck her tongue out, pulling it back into her mouth quickly when he asked her about having other fears. "Ha, you shouldn't even know about that, what makes you think I'll give you anything else against me." She chuckled and shook her head then added quickly. "Not that there is anything else." She didnt like to think of them as fears, it only made them more real and that worked against her trying to just forget all of it.
