Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
LUA WAS A NEWCOMER. She was young, young enough that she was confined to the closest thing to camp that BrookClan had. Kerrigan had placed her and her siblings under the watchful eye of Smallfire when the Tsar herself was too busy for her newly adopted family. This had some benefits, of course, being that she had more space to explore and more opportunities to see the world, but it was also lonely. Kerrigan and her siblings were the only creatures that the multi-colored she-cat had any attachment to. She had yet to make friends, and when her immediate family was busy, Lua found herself to be one very lost poda. However, she hoped that that would change as another cat approached her...
A small cream and ginger she-cat slipped into the BrookClan 'camp'. Momo had just returned from a hunting excursion, a small vole hanging from her delicately ginger painted mouth. The BrookClan raised cat had just been about to drop off the vole when she'd noticed the little poda out of the corner of her eyes. Her ears perked with a joyful twinge as she quickly changed her course to walk over to Lua. Her head dipping slightly in greeting as she neared. She'd heard about Kerrigan adopting a litter of kits, but had yet to meet any of them just yet.
She slowed to a halt a tail length or so away from her and placed the vole down. Not wanting to be rude and talk with something hanging from her jaws. "Greetings, little one" the Viony greeted crouching down ever so slightly to be a little more eye level with the kit. Her voice was soft and welcoming her lips curled upwards into a kind smile, not wanting to intimidate the little poda.
The child blinked when the she-cat approached her. Of course, she should have been used to the constant attention by now. When she wasn't with Smallfire, many cats approached her. They all wanted to know how a random group of kittens made it into the heart of the Tsar. Frankly, Lua could not answer this question on her own. Perhaps this was because in her mind, she had yet to become anything different than a regular kitten, a rogue kitten at that. Sure, she appreciated the kindness shown to her by the leader of the group, but it was odd. She had heard other cats murmur this sentiment, too. Out of all of the kittens in the world, why had the Tsar selected ones not born in the group to take as her own?
When the Viony spoke to her, Lua's tail swished across the ground slightly as she abandoned her train of thought. "Hello!" Lua squeaked in response. She was a tiny thing, so even though the she-cat had crouched, she still had to stand big and tall to be able to look at her in the eyes. The small brown, white and orange patched kitten offered a smile to the older cat. "What's your name?"
Momo's ears twitched as a gentle breeze blew through camp causing her fur to rustle ever so slightly. Her eyes watching as the kit stretched so she could look her in the eyes. When Kerrigan had adopted the kits she could tell the BrookClan cat's found it strange. Though Momo didn't question it at all. After all, she'd been in the same paws as the adopted kittens. Having been left her when her mother could no longer care for her.
The she-cat remembered how reassuring it was to have cat's welcome her and not treat her like an outcast. Which is probably why the cream and ginger she-cat wanted to make the kit's feel welcomed to the clan. Her eyes crinkled slightly at the sides as the kitten asked for her name, and responded in the same tone she had used before, "My name's Momo. What's yours?"
Everyone had found it strange. After all, it seemed to have been a rather obtuse move for the Tsar. She had made it clear before that kittens without BrookClan blood meant little to her, yet she found a litter of kittens with just that blood and brought them in. It was a strange politics, one that Lua would never understand. It made the nature of her abandonment easier, though. Somewhere, in this great big world, her biological mother lay with blood on her paws. Kerrigan's adoption made this fact easier to swallow, she supposed.
Either way, the she-kitten allowed the smile to continue to flicker across her lips when the older cat spoke to her. It was a soft smile, one that didn't quite make her eyes. Perhaps her smile would never echo in her eyes. "Momo," she repeated, her voice soft. "That's a nice name." Her head tilted slightly, a movement so small that it was almost negligible. "My name is Lua." It almost sounded as if this was a question. Lua, what a strange name, it even felt odd spilling from her own mouth.
The creamy ginger cat watched the tiny kit. Her eyes fixated on her tiny kitten face, the Viony softly intrigued as she watched at what the she-cat assumed to be the thoughts circling like a carousel in Lua's mind. Momo could on some level understand what the kitten was going through, but of course, the familiarity only went so far. Her pale ginger ears flicked as Lua spoke a small purr of thanks rumbled in her chest at the kitten's compliment.
"Thank you, I think yours is quite nice as well, Lua. It's unique." she hummed her tail swaying softly side to side. Momo as telling the truth, it as a very unique name, but one that she found herself liking. Her blue eyes shifted from the kit for a brief moment. Her eyes drifted down to the forgotten piece of prey at her paws and turned her eyes back to Lua. She was not fully sure if the kit was able to eat solid prey yet, but she'd ask anyways not wanting to be rude, "Are you hungry, Lua?" she asked her head tilting as she gently pushed the tiny vole forward slightly.
"Thank you!" she squeaked at the compliment of her name. She then shifted, thinking about her response to the second question. "Maybe a little," she squeaked up at the larger cat, tilting her head. She didn't eat much, but she and her siblings were fully weaned. After all, they were several moons old now. Of course, Lua didn't quite look it. She was tiny in a way that almost looked stunted. "That's very nice of you! Mama always told me to say please and thank you before accepting food, so please and thank you!" There was a warmth to her voice, before she realized what she had to say.
"Er... Not mama. Mama is the tsar. My birth mama." She winced; there was still some tenderness around that statement for the kitten. She was the only one of her litter who hadn't let trauma erase their mother from her memory.
Momo gave a relieved sigh as Lua accepted her invitation to eating the vole he had offered. The cream she-cat had nudged the vole closer towards the tiny podarok as she began to speak once again. Her ginger pointed ears twitching as Lua seemed to start going off on a tangent as shew thanked Momo for the offering. The viony hadn't put too much thought into what the kit had said as she fixed her posture to the same position as before. But, as she listened and saw the change in Lua's voice and facial expression Momo frowned. Despite the kitten's young age, she'd already gone through so much, and Momo couldn't help but feel empathetic towards her and her siblings. The she-cat cleared her throat unsure of what to say, but knowing it would be best to try and change the subject.
"You're welcome dear," she said softly and nudged the vole once again, "here eat up~ I caught it myself this morning. The poor thing put up quite the fight!" she exclaimed in the safe soft voice.
She didn't know it, but she was glad that the older cat hadn't really made any comments to her blabbering. It was hard to explain and it was messy. Her life was messy, that was a good way to put it. And, as little more than a child, it was hard to sift through it. She didn't understand much of anything, and what she did understand, it was hard to put to words.
Quickly, though, the topic changed, and her eyes became shiny with excitement. "It put up a fight?" she asked curiously, before sniffing. "You must be a really really good viony," she couldn't pronounce the world quite correctly, "if it put up a fight!" Her words were a chirp, before she took a bite of the prey, the taste making her mouth water slightly as she ate the first bite.
Momo couldn't help the small fond giggle that left her mouth at Lua's attempt at pronouncing the name of the somewhat odd BrookClan ranks. She like many other outsiders had trouble at first as well. The she-cat nodded her head at Lua's words. "Oh, I wouldn't say I'm good, but I do alight" she purred at the compliment, "I was tracking it for quite a while the thing just wouldn't stay still long enough for me to pounce."
Momo had to admit she wasn't the best hunter nor fighter, but the she-cat did what she could to provide for the Clan that had taken her in when her mother could no longer care for her. The cream she-cat felt like she owed her life to the Clan and would do her best to pay them back tenfold. She watched Lua eat the vole Momo's tail swaying softly side to side out of habit. "Is it good?" she asked tilting her head in curiosity.
"I'm sure you do more than alright!" she chirpped at the larger cat, her tabico pelt shifting as she looked up to give her a large smile. "Even when it was bein' a punk, you kept on and you caught it!" There was an excitement in her eyes. One day, she wanted to be like this cat. She wanted to one day be in the same position, the position of doing what she could for the clan that took her in when it didn't have to.
"It's really good!" she purred after taking another bite, before nudging it slightly over to her. "You should eat some so you know how good it is ! Sharing is caring, and I like you!" she asserted, even though it wasn't Lua that was sharing her prey with Momo, but Momo who was sharing her prey with Lua.
Momo softly chuckled at Lua's attempts at praising Momo for hunting down the vole. "Well, thank you very much for the words of encouragement, Lua" she replied her voice gently and it was easy to tell that she did mean it. There was something so innocent and pure about a kittens almost pure way of viewing the world. Many yet untouched by the cruel fates that sometimes lingered around those less fortunate. Sure, Lua and her siblings had already had a rocky start to their life, but now that they were here, in BrookClan, Momo was determined to help them lead a better, safer life.
She wasn't aware that her attention had drifted and she'd just zoned back into Lua asking her if she would like some of the vole that Momo had caught. Momo smiled fondly down at Lua, she'd only known this kit personally for such a short while and she already felt a kinship towards the tabico podarok. "Well, how can I say no to that! You make it look so delicious!" she purred and crouched even lower and took a bite of the vole, chewed and swallowed.
Lua, it would turn out, was not destined to a better, safer life. She was predestined for her life to end in a similar way as it started: forgotten, beaten, bruised. But, for now, it was sentiment like the thoughts Momo had that would keep her going. They would prove that at least some cats in this grand universe cared, and that was important, especially for a kitten who had seen some ugly things.
When the older cat finally took a bite, which took her an eternity and a half in kitten moments, Lua let out a purr. "Do you like it as much as I do?" she squeaked, her head tilted to the side. She then took another bite to prove that it was the best thing she'd ever eaten in her whole life.
The ginger she-cat couldn't help but laugh at the eagerness and excitement that the tiny podarok was displaying. Momo nodded her head at Lua\s question, before smiling as she watched Lua go in for another bite of the vole. The Viony's fluffy tail curled around her paws from where she was crouched in front of Lua. "I do enjoy it quite a bit" she voiced to Luas's question, "but I think I prefer hare the best, though they are tough to catch. Maybe the next time I get one you can share with me?" she asked with a comfortable smile as her whiskers twitched and her small head tilted to the side.
There was a little pitter patter of paws as the cat shook in excitement at such a prospect. "Really? You wanna share a hare with me?" She seemed to squeak out the words as a grin pastered across her face. "That would be so so cool! I've never had one of those. Normally, me and my sisters and brother normally get a bunch of fish, but never a whole bunny! That would be so cool! I could tell Red and Antarctica all about it and they would wish they had a cool new best friend that would share with them their rabbits."
The viony couldn't help the fond expression of endearment as she watched Lua, "Of course it would be my pleasure to share one with you" The she-cat had always had a soft spot for kits, though the possibility that she may never have any of her own, she was more than content with the idea of watching over the kits that came and went within the clan. Momo had been unprepared to bond so quickly with the tiny podarok. The younger cat calling Momo her new best friend causing a mreow of endeared laughter to leave her. "Well, I'm happy I gained a new best friend as well, Lua" the cream she-cat grinned in response. She would be sure to keep an eye out for any hares that may wander across the territory during her future outings. Her whiskers twitched at a sudden idea that came to her, "Tell you what. As soon as you become a Kadet I'll take you around the territory to do some hunting of our own. Sound good?" she asked her head tilting.
this is like the cutest interaction i've ever rped and my heart grows 3 sizes each time i reply its going to be so sad when lua's whole life comes crashing down around her LOL
The kitten smiled up at the viony with her biggest, brightest smile that she could muster. "Thank you! I bet it our hare will be the best hare that ever got eaten in this whole territory because you caught it!" Her tone was so innocent and gentle, the kind of tone that belonged to a cat who thought the world was so big and she was so ready to explore it. "I'm glad to have you as my best friend!" she giggled, before reaching over and giving the cat a soft headbutty-nuzzle thing that cats do to show affection. She then let out a squeak of excitement as the cat offered to take her on a trip when she was old enough. "That sounds so good!" she squealed in excitement. "That'll be so fun! Maybe ma can even let you train sometimes, either as my mentor or just another cat ! I think that would be super cool! Once I'm old enough we can go on all sorts of adventures and all sorts of hunts and catch the biggest prey and all of BrookClan will be so happy to have us," she purred, her eyes shining.
The viony couldn't help but laugh with endearment at Lua's enthusiasm. Things had been getting somewhat stale around camp for the she-cat, and the tiny kitten in front of Momo had been a welcome change. A pleased purr rolled up from her chest at Lua's nuzzle and the cream she-cat couldn't help but bring her tail around and gently flick the podarock's nose with the tip. Momo was nodding her head as she listened to the tiny kit ramble on and on about the adventures they'd go on. Momo's eyes seemed to mirror those of Lua's as she finally responded after Lua had finished her excited ramblings. "Oh, I'm sure they will!" she chirped in the same excited tone as the smaller cat, "I can barely wait~" And it was true. Momo had spent her time in BrookClan, just wasting the day away doing the same old routine. But, now that she'd gained a new friend and the prospect of exciting plans her blood was buzzing with anticipation. "There's so much I'd love to show you when the time comes~"
"Like what?" she meowed, shifting back and forth with excitement. There was a whole big world out there and she knew it. She had been found out in that big world. But, there had to be good parts of it that weren't cold and hungry, like she had been before she came to BrookClan. "There's gotta be cool things here, right? Big rabbits and is there -" Her voice trailed. "Could we go ice skating when I'm big enough? Ma said sometimes when it gets real cold, the ice freezes! Cynder told us that that can be fun for good dance parties..." Her eyes sparkled with anticipation at the thought. She could picture it now, dancing on the ice. Dancing in general would be fun. "Oh!" she realized after a moment. "We probably don't have to wait until I'm big! We could do something totally exciting right now as we are! There's gotta be somethin' fun to do in camp!"
"That sound's like a lovely idea" the viony replied with an amused laugh. She rose to her paws, though she still kept her head tilted down so she could look at Lua. "Shall we go then~?" she asked with another mreow of laughter. While ice skating did seem fun, and a dance partier even more so, she didn't think they'd find much luck with that in camp. The she-cat scanned her memory for something that would be entertaining and safe for Lua to do inside the camp. The last thing Momo would want is for the she-kit to get hurt especially while under her supervision. The cream and ginger she-cat pointed her head towards a small clump of bushes and trees a yard or so away, "Maybe we can play hide and seek over there?" she suggested with a smile.
