Sean lied down in front of Funk massaging lotions and oils into his front paws. The entire room had a misty heat, but it wasn't harsh enough to feel drowsy or light headed. They were located in the black market district where his store sat outside of the stadium inside of what was going to be a high end beauty salon before the whole block shut down. Because of this the two-legs left everything in their store unable to come back for any of it.
Sean flipped Funk E'tan's paw over twice to inspect before nodding his approval, "I never say this, but bengal fur are my favorite pattern. I promise you I don't tell this to all the pretty girls, but it's absolutely true. First mate, rocked this golden stardust bengal pelt, she was a looker."
He moved onto the left paw gently massaging it as he continued, "This will be your routine on the day of the wedding. You'll wake up, bright and early, drag yourself in here. You can sleep the whole time, I don't honestly care, but after the cleanse, manicure, and bath that's when we get the cape on you. And then you'll look handsome as hell, stand at the end of that aisle and live out your fairytale life. Actually how are your chakras, are your chakras aligned?" Sean was being way more attentive to this wedding than he had previously shown to the point that it was almost suspicious.

Funk's low purr reverberated through the air. He couldn't have helped but be surprised when Sean suggested this, when he came all this way to help the Nemesis prepare for the wedding. Was he suspicious? Mildly. It seemed like every time they were supposed to move farther away from each other, one or the other always went to the effort of bridging the gap. Things only made less sense the more days went by, it definitely kept him entertained.
The ends of his lips twitched at the compliment. “I guess I'll take your word for it. Maybe you should have married me when you had the chance.” He laughed quietly, his tone light like he was joking but his gaze anything but. Funk would say it was for suspicions, but he watched Sean intently, drinking each action in before he went on to the next.
Funk nodded along with the plan, claws peaking out as Sean massaged his paw. “Hmmph, they are as aligned as ever, I s'pose.”
Sean's initial response would have been, you're imagining things, but as he thought better of it he turned up his charm and with a slow smile added, "Yeah, I missed out." Whenever he tried to talk back to Funk his way it always led to some long condescending argument, but maybe if he played into Funk's game he would think twice about messing with him... He was messing with him right?
He gave a thoughtful look to Funk, but dismissed the idea of giving him a full chakra treatment. Funk was probably right, he was at peace enough. Then again his name was Funk, which could indicate he was in a funk a lot. He shrugged, "We'll start the coconut bath, it'll leave your fur silky smooth," He promised gesturing to the small tub he already had prepared, "You can step in, I'll be right back," He said as he darted over to the entrance before moving a large heavy crate to block it. "Lately, anytime I give someone a coconut bath Innocentia smells it and spends her entire day pressing her face against the window breathing at it. Just staring at the person inside, it drives away business every time," He complained as he walked back over to Funk. "This will take sometime, but hopefully the coconut milk isn't too cold, I can't make it any warmer though. What's your astrology by the way? I'm a Pisces, but I feel like I'm a Leo at heart so just pretend you didn't hear the Pisces thing."
Post by strawberrycupid on Aug 6, 2020 0:22:08 GMT -5
Was he joking? Was he completely serious? Was it just a pipedream after learning that Chimerastar pronounced his name "ch-im" and not "khime" like a normal cat and that tv show lied to him? Funk wasn't sure. Even if he toyed with the idea, it was too late now. They were far too different, two different worlds could only merge together so well. "T's a shame, that all. I 'preciate you doin' this either way."
Was he in a funk? Probably. He should have asked for the chakra treatment, whatever it involved. He kept using all the busywork of the wedding preparation to keep himself from thinking about it. But now, sitting here in the quiet made those worries worm back into his mind. The Nemesis gently lowered himself into the bath as Sean pushed the crate in front of the door. So that's why those cats complained about some white cat staring at them in the black market? He chuckled, resting his head on the tub's edge. "This is good. I'll let go of the Pisces thing long as you don't tell anyone I'm a Cancer." Funk purred, though the humor in his voice had dampened.
Sean walked back up to him, "Oh, a cancer! We're compatible friends then," He said with a nod. He dipped his paws into the coconut milk before before tentatively massaging it into Funk's face, "If I remember right cancer and leo are great at keeping secrets for one another and have a strong trust. Good at collaborating with one another." He noted.
But just like that he was quiet to, there wasn't much to say. He didn't know what Funk liked to engage in too much conversation. Usually all he wanted to do was bash on Glowstar, but obviously Funk didn't want that. Actually... "Have you heard about SunClan? About the whole Sun God being sliced open by Littlestar thing? It's pretty... Crazy," He said, this was putting it delicately at best. But he needed to test the waters, see if Funk was interested in gossip let alone the kind that revolved around SunClan. Plus some losers people felt bad trash talking others, something about it being bad to talk ill about others so maybe Funk was one of those people.

Funk wasn't sure if he should talk, and definitely knew he shouldn't pull Sean into this bath. But he was tempted. Even with his cheeks being smushed in this and that direction, he laughed a little at the horoscope. That was just another string, huh? "Heh heh. I can't be surprised by that anymore." Even the stars wouldn't let that friendship die. How humorous.
But if he was good at keeping secrets, maybe Funk should just talk about what was on his mind. Sean has had a couple mates, basically married to Shule even though he knew he wouldn't be invited to that wedding. He wasn't fully convinced, actually dealing with his emotions in a constructive way was not his go-to. So, he was almost relieved when Sean changed the subject. "Yep. Senescence and Lucistic were there, and Luc made it a whole show of telling me what happened. I would have given a life to see Littlestar fall from that tree myself." The Nemesis practically jumped into those waters, his tone cheerful despite the morbid words. It was no secret to most of Primal Instinct, that despite his soon to be wife leading it at one point, Funk held no love for Sunclan. They were never any fun to talk to, his snobby son was set to lead it one day, and he still hadn't forgotten about the incident with Innocentia. He'd have to do something about it. "Besides, it sounds like the Sun God deserved it. We're all bad here, but we at least don't do that. Whether you take my word for it or not is up to you." He was so relaxed he decided not to lean into that conversation again. "What about you? What do you think of it?"
Sean smirked, too gleeful at the opportunity to vent, "I would have done worse, if you ask me Littlestar was too easy on him. Renegade Regime was actually a really sexist place to she-cats so we take that kind of thing pretty seriously. I can tell you right now that if the Blind Protector was accused of doing even half of what was said we wouldn't have let it go on for another day. I mean moons? C'mon, what kind of leader doesn't take those accusations seriously? Like, I won't deny I was a sucky leader, but I bet you that you and I wouldn't have ever let that go on for as long as it did if it happened to our group," He scoffed.
"Let me test your fur," He said after relaxing a moment from his rant as he ran his paw down Funk E'tan's shoulder, "It's getting there. And I mean, you do seem to play with she-cats hearts," He said critically, "But I would never peg you so low as doing what the Sun God did. It's why I'm happy to prep you for your wedding, you're a gentlemen to Glowstar, which is what really counts. I hope you know you that you deserve her and if you argue with me on that I'll half drown you this time," Sean teased, his head perched over his arms that were resting over the tub.

Looks like that was the right response. Especially as Sean went off on his tangent. A bit they could agree on. Funk vaguely remembered Sean's leadership from when he... time traveled. But he only saw one evening, that mostly told him how paws off Sean was. But he didn't question it much, letting himself relax into the bath and massage. "Let's be honest here. He got away with it for so long because Autumn isn't one of Little's kits. As long as the Sun God stayed away from her family, I doubt she cared." Funk laughed lowly at that. But was he wrong? He'd seen nothing to prove himself wrong. The Nemesis could have guessed there had been enough hostility between them for Little to turn a blind eye. Not that he was really paying attention to things like the repercussions for the Era of Shadows. "Let's keep that bit between us though. Probably best not to stir the pot right before this wedding." Funk knew, but just saying it out loud solidified it. It was real, and was happening.
His gaze flicked upwards as Sean tested his fur, shrugging at the criticism. It was true, there was no way he could deny it. Hearts were a cruel thing to toy with, but also one of the most fun. But Funk kept that tidbit to himself. "I appreciate that, really." Not that Funk was very convinced it was true. I mean, it was Glowstar. Did anyone really deserve her? Was that just another slight at her and him from Sean? He wasn't sure. Chuckling at the tease, he found himself trying to stay close so Sean didn't stretch as much but also tempted to drift away just to see if he'd fall in. "Fine, I won't argue with you on it. But I can't deny my hesitation. This is the first time I've tried something like this."
"Really? Well I think if you're scared of falling in love in love it's probably the right call to get married. My first mate, I had no hesitation, no fear, I loved Kenya, she was the bengal girl. But when she became pregnant she wanted nothing to do with me and swore I would never see them. I wish I loved her more than I loved those kits, maybe then I would have left her alone..."
Sean stroked Funk's fur gently from one end to the other, his fur wasn't too long so there was no need to deeply condition it the way he normally would have to, "You have a better heart than me, you'll live happily with them, I can tell. I see the way you look at them and you just can't fake that loving gaze. Plus they'll be lucky to marry a hotty like you," he said, teasingly flicking the coconut milk at him before leaning back from the tub. He retreated back and placed a small cushion below the tub, "Okay, you can come out and lie down right over in that sun spot on the marble, it'll warm your fur faster and make it smoother. Also if you want I can put these smooth rose quartz over your eyes, they're cooling, can give you an even younger complexion. Plus they give you good drreams if you fall asleep."
How Sean knew everything worked was a bit questionable... Maybe he made it up along the way or maybe he tested it and came up with his own half baked conclusions, but one way or another had a whole process down.

It must have been in his nature to doubt. It just didn't make sense. Getting married as the solution to a fear of falling in love? Who said he was afraid? Was it him? It started to dawn on Funk how he may never understand Sean, the other's ways simply far too alien to him. Even with everything he said, the Nemesis had a hard time believing any of it. Blinking as a drop of coconut milk flew into his eye, Funk shook his head. Bubbles floated to the surface as he exhaled. "Flattery will only get you so far here. You realize all these fluffy fuzzy feelings are foreign to me, no? Call me getting cold feet or whatever, but I don't see how getting married will help that... hesitance." He wasn't gonna call it fear; not in front of Sean, not when he wasn't sure what fear felt like.
Despite the reluctance, he slowly stepped out of the pool. Shaking each paw to keep the floor from getting soaked, he didn't bother to question how Sean supposedly knew. Whatever opportunity he got to talk to his soon to be brother in law was worth it. That heart thing was entirely untrue. Funk laid down in the sun, not without flicking some of the leftover drops on Sean. "Besides, you're pretty hot too. And you can give me whatever you want."
strawberrycupid (I'm just pinging you in case the automatic system lost this since I haven't replied in so long)
He listened to the other tom, sometimes zoning out from the temptation to opt to mess with Funk, maybe get on his nerves a bit. Normally he'd feel half bad about being tempted like this, but he could catch Funk's stare, he knew he was thinking the same thing.
Sean let out an amused laughter like he pitied Funk E'tan, "Flattery gets you everywhere, how many she-cats do stupid toms let walk past them without complimenting them when they clearly look stunning? People are starved for the compliments they rightfully deserve, by the time I flatter someone they grasp onto it fast. I bet people compliment you a lot, but it gets pretty boring getting called pretty for the thousandth time. How many times has someone complimented those charming celadon eyes of yours, that sly smile, maybe the exotic look of your fur pattern? I like what you don't and it's that shimmery little scar of yours you try to hide. I like the way you try to hide it, like it's a dirty little secret, it shows a vulnerable side I don't see from you. It also marks the time I recognized you and I remember everything from that night." Sean was leaning in close now, "Close your eyes, please," He said placing the cold rose quartz stones over his eyes.
Post by strawberrycupid on Sept 3, 2020 18:30:04 GMT -5
Really, Sean didn't even need to bother getting on his nerves in some other way. Tripping him, scalding him, the likes that were so easy now would have been trivial compared to what he did. For the whole time he spoke, Funk forced himself to watch Sean, not take his eyes off. Search the other for any sort of smirk, a flash of amusement in his eyes, anything that said he was kidding. Cause that's what it had to be; a joke. But neither of them laughed. It was frustrating, his world darkened briefly.
And he was the first one to crack a smirk. "Spent a while thinking that one up, huh?" Nah, he wouldn't let himself believe a word of it. The stones were cool on his eyes, too much so as Funk stretched to keep them balanced. Thus showing off that scar more, that chink in the armor he despised. "But look where that's got you. You're here pampering me, the kind of cat you hate most." They were cut from the same cloth, but their patterns different. Lies got him here, and the supposed truth got Sean here. It wasn't like Funk needed to spell out the insecurities about Sean's sort of lifestyle. They both knew. "Besides, I can give that sort of flattery all I want, doesn't change the whole cold feet deal."
"Yeah I guess it is pretty humiliating pampering a low life like you," Sean said, but if Funk peaked outside of the rocks over his eyes he would be able to see Sean grinning. He just wanted to check to see if Funk actually cared what he thought about him or not. "If you're having cold paws then maybe it's just that you're afraid of what you'll lose instead of what you'll gain from marriage. How many friends have you talked to about this, what was their advice?"
Post by strawberrycupid on Sept 19, 2020 13:12:31 GMT -5
Funk couldn't, thankfully for Sean. Maybe he ended up giving Sean wanted, he couldn't have known either way. For now, he was satisfied with his defense, happy to push his own agenda on another's words. He couldn't help the bark of a laugh from leaving him at the question. "Please. You try and find someone who won't blab to Foxbane or Glowstar about those doubts then get back to me. Most will tell them just to try and cancel the wedding." Even Funk couldn't help noticing the slight mood shift once cats learned of the engagement. Especially from the kids.
"I'm sure Foxbane has no doubts, when she was imprisoned in the Regime she went insane, which like, was weird to me. Cause I was imprisoned there since I was born and I don't exactly remember having a mental breakdown, just saying. But anyways, I think she started having doubts, maybe some remorse about the people she really cared about, but the thought of feeling that way was so overpowering that she couldn't let herself touch it. So instead she drove herself insane trying to deflect it, that's my theory anyways. Glow's always doubtful though, she second guesses everything she does, but she never let's it consume her to where she can't make a choice. Maybe that's why she's so forgiving to people, every thinks she's so kind, but really she never had that much hope in humanity to begin with. So yeah, you might have cold paws, but at least you handle it in a healthy way," Sean remarked, before smoothly, with a touch of bashfulness adding, "If you want you can hangout with my friends. I guess. Like, if it would help, we can take you on a fun night out and all that to take the weight of the big day off of you a bit."

Funk listened, trying to hold still enough to pick at that one hair that was rubbing him the wrong way. He knew Sean was observant, had spent more time with them and all that. Con of being the youngest. But it felt strange to be getting told about your fiances from someone else. Funk should have known, and sure some pieces he had, but not the whole picture. And now it only felt like he had a few more, still quite a few holes in each puzzle. "Exactly. You grew up in it, you're accustomed to it. If your mind did break, it was broken when you were young, then warped to what the Regime wanted." He said with a half shrug, more matter of fact than teasing. "Not that we're much better." He added with a laugh.
The offer was tempting. Not like this was gonna be his last chance to hit the town, but it'd be different after the marriage. He'd always been free, able to follow his whims and fancies to their limits. Now he had a limit, the scariest part was that he was the one that put it there. "You are as generous as ever, Sentinel. Not that I think it will help much." Funk would hate to admit that just talking about it helped more. He knew what kind of cat he was, knew that he was the crocodile that would jump on the gazelle cause he was close to the bank.
"Well, Kutsu and Deal and I like to hangout in the Regime, maybe I can get some of my friends to hangout in the city this weekend and you can show us around wherever you'd like," He said as he took off the rose quartz's from Funk's eyes, "You can roll over now so it warms the other side of you."
"I always thought of you as destructive and detached. I wasn't happy about you marrying into the family. But I haven't been the kindest person to you either or have given you a chance. So I'm happy to get to know you more and I'd like to be able to happily say you're my brother in law. And if I feel happy and excited for you to be a part of the family then I know Glowstar feels that one hundred times more," He promised.
Post by strawberrycupid on Sept 29, 2020 18:14:46 GMT -5
Well, Funk knew of at least one of those cats. It was hard to even approach Dayclan without having heard of Deal. Kutsu was a complete stranger, but he guessed if these cats could stand to hang out with Sean, he would be nothing. "What sort of things are you even able to do at the Regime anyway? I figure you guys just work all the time. And when you're not working, you're sleeping." Funk asked as he rolled over to his other side, a genuine curiosity in his tone. Did he care completely? No. But with the way things were going, it was gonna be in his best interest to befriend the regime. Maybe finally establish that trade route he had been thinking about and not just stealing their scraps.
"That's a good assessment on your part. If I were you, I wouldn't give me a chance." He never gave anyone a chance. This was the biggest gamble of his life, and the needle was still between the jackpot and bankrupt. Funk still couldn't tell if it was a good idea. But... some part of him, very much buried under a lot of spite, appreciated the chance. "Fine, I'll say it once. Thanks for listening. So how much gore can you and your buddies take? We can find something less... violent, though it may take a bit of walking."
"Deal's an introvert so probably not much, I've actually never experienced too much gore in my life so I don't actually know," Sean said thoughtfully, "In the Regime mercenaries and sentinels like me just train relentlessly and practice, but we hardly ever get any action."
He walked away retrieving a few bowls to set down next to them. He stroked Funk E'tan's fur a few times before deciding that the nemesis was finished, "You can roll back over onto your stomach if you want or you can stay in place, I'm going to do a paw cleanse next." He seemed more in thought than he usually was before adding, "So do you like gore and violence or are you just surrounded by it? I always figured every Primal Instinct cat liked it and couldn't live without it. That's how Glowstar acted anyways."
Post by strawberrycupid on Oct 10, 2020 13:58:17 GMT -5
Well, he'd have to find something a bit more... tame. Funk could always build them up to the harsher life in the League. "It's the opposite here. Not a lot of structure, but a lot of practice. So most cats end up making their own moves. Course, that means we're not really used to working together. But eh, doesn't bother me too much." He was too much of a paws off nemesis. Long as everyone had a vague loyalty to him and listened, he could just point the finger at the clan to attack next and let them do the rest of the work. It was a nice partnership.
Funk rolled onto his stomach a little too quickly when given the option. Forcing his fur to stay in place when touched. He just lifted his paw when prompted. It made him realize how calloused they were. All the walking he did, especially now that they were back in the city, had destroyed them. He pondered the question for a moment, flexing his claws just a little bit.
"Not particularly. When I was younger, I liked it more. But, to me, it was never really about gore and violence. It was about the emotions that everyone felt. The shock of the audience, fear of the slayee and the thrill of the slayer. That kind of despair... sends shivers down my spine." There was really nothing better than watching the misery of others. But he kept that part out. "Some do like it, some don't. I think the ones that do tend to, stand out more." Funk paused for a moment before adding, "So, do you like rules or is the Regime filled with more rebels than I think?"
