Deerpelt waited at the entrance to the camp for Honeycrisp who would accompany him on a quick SpringClan border check. He didn't expect tonight to be any different from any other patrol. The air was warm now at sundown and he was grateful for Newleaf. It made his new clan's territory look so beautiful.

love it c: he can insist on coming too so they see each other sooner - Honeycrisp bounded over to Deerpelt with a polite nod and led the way from camp, setting a brisk pace. She was tired and was looking forward to spending time in camp with the other cats, enjoying the nice weather and ample amount of prey.
Marbleknight wasn't going to let this happen to them, he'd decided it long ago. Tonight he practically raced to the border, paws pounding into the earth rhythmically as he ran. He knew when the patrol would pass and very much intended to be at the border to meet them.
Deerpelt followed Honeycrisp through the territory, appreciating her eagerness. It seemed like she was just as ready to head back to camp as he was. As they reached the SpringClan border, the warrior paused and scented the air. The last time he'd gone out with only one cat, he'd been trapped in a cave after a fox chase. Deerpelt was a bit on edge now as he smelled for anything wrong at the border. Nothing strange, that was good. He kept going, surprised when the scent was incredibly strong. Could there be a patrol in the area? "Honeycrisp," he called lowly, waiting on the she-cat to near him and catch what he was smelling. neverstarstar

Honeycrisp pricked her ears and turned around, padding back to her companion curiously. She'd just caught onto the strong scent when a cat slid from the undergrowth and approached them.
"Deerpelt," Marbleknight meowed, "Honeycrisp. It's nice to see you both again." Not they'd ever been friends. He knew of them from gatherings, but never spoken to either cat. "I'm here for an escort."
"Marbleknight," Honeycrisp returned, voice cool, "an escort?" She looked at Deerpelt, thinking perhaps he knew something about this.
Deerpelt glanced from the tom - Marbleknight, his clanmate had said - to Honeycrisp in confusion. This was not at all how he'd expected the short patrol to go. "What do you need an escort for?" the warrior asked, head cocked to the side. Honeycrisp didn't seem to understand either.

"I need to be taken to your camp," Marbleknight explained, voice a tinge impatient now, "and I obviously can't go waltzing in without an escort, so do you mind?"
Honeycrisp lashed her tail, "we very much mind. We can't take you to our camp! Not without a very good reason."
Marbleknight marched forward, until he was nose to nose with Honeycrisp, "my mate is there!"
Deerpelt didn't like this stranger trying to intimidate his clanmate so he growled lowly, coming closer. "Oh really? And who would that be." His voice didn't hold a question but a challenge. Deerpelt remembered his own mate who he had left behind when he joined Fallclan and he was suddenly sad. If Marbleknight wanted to see his, who was Deerpelt to stop true love? But this could be a ploy, too.

Marbleknight turned his gaze to Deerpelt, looking suddenly nervous, "if I tell you, you must swear to bring me to her. I can't give her away without knowing I'll get to speak to her."
Honeycrisp had started growling when the tom got close, but now she'd fallen silent, deferring to Deerpelt in this situation. She stayed quiet, looking at her clanmate out of the corner of her eye.
Deerpelt looked to Honeycrisp. She wasn't saying anything. What if he made the wrong choice? The warrior held up his tail for a second to motion for Marbleknight to stay put and said to Honeycrisp, "Can we talk over there for a second?" He wanted her opinion but really didn't want the other cat to hear them.

"Can you hurry though?" Marbleknight meowed, anxiety in his voice. "I just really need to see her."
Honeycrisp padded away from the tom, adding over her shoulder, "you can wait a few minutes more. Stay put." When they were far enough away she turned and faced Deerpelt, "so what do we do?"
The warrior had no idea, and he said as much to his clanmate. "I'm not sure. If this is some way to infiltrate Fallclan, we'll be in a lot of trouble. And wouldn't his mate have known to meet with him instead of expecting him to be taken to the camp? It seems wrong." Deerpelt thought for a second longer and before Honeycrisp responded, he changed his thought process. "Though I am interested that he can give us a name as long as he swear to take him to camp. And this is only one cat. I would prefer we bring his mate to him instead but I know he won't tell us who. I don't see a choice." Deerpelt didn't want to make this decision on his own or say something that would get him into trouble, but he hoped his clanmate had a heart and saw the situation a similar way.

Honeycrisp looked just as torn but added thoughtfully, "perhaps they've had a fight? Or maybe... maybe she is afraid to meet him out here?" Looking at the tom with distrust she finally meowed, "let's taken him close to the entrance, then ask if she wants to see him. If she says no, we escort him back and chase him off if needed."
She was speaking loudly, plainly wanting Marbleknight to hear her, and the tom nodded his grim agreement, "fine, if she doesn't want to see me I'll leave quietly, deal?"
Deerpelt gave Honeycrisp one last thoughtful look before nodding at Marbleknight. "Deal. Follow us then." And with that, he turned to lead the SpringClanner back to their camp.

Hollypool was sniffing around the fresh-kill pile when the scent of SpringClan reached her nose. In surprise, her head shot up. The first thing the scent reminded her of was Marbleknight, but she pushed his name out of her mind quickly. No sense digging up old memories. But perhaps she should alert a warrior that something was going on.

The walk to camp was completely silent, Marbleknight was too anxious about the meeting with Hollypool to try and make polite conversation. He and Hollypool were mates, but they hadn't truly let their relationship grow. He liked her, her name sent his heart aflutter, but was there more than that? He didn't know. But he most certainly intended to find out.
Once a few paces from camp Honeycrisp paused and looked at Deerpelt, "I'm going to get her, make sure he doesn't try and follow." With that she padded into camp and sought out Hollypool. It occurred to her for a moment that this she-cat in front of her had taken a mate from another clan, and Honeycrisp should deeply disapprove. Instead she only felt concern for her. "Hey, Hollypool. There is a cat here to see you, he claims to be your mate. Do you wanna see him?" No use dancing around the subject.
When Honeycrisp approached her and smacked her right in the face with that piece of information, her heart stopped and her ears went back. No no no, what was Marbleknight doing here? He would ruin everything. She was known for being so loyal to FallClan, and this was going to change it.
But then the other part of her didn't even care. She hadn't seen him in moons. Their kits had just been promoted to apprentices! And she was dying to tell him all about them. So with her head held high and no hint of shame or guilt in her voice, she made her decision.

Honeycrisp nodded, shifting a bit in discomfort before adding, "if anyone else finds out... well, your loyalty would certainly be in question. Are you prepared for that?" It wasn't from a place of judgement, more one of deep concern for a clanmate who was viewed as such a loyal warrior.
She visibly winced. "It is what it is. I can't hide the father of my kits any longer. It's unfair and it's wrong."
Hollypool gave a grateful head rub against Honeycrisp, both for the fact that she was giving her a final out and because she had brought Marbleknight to the camp regardless. And with that, holding her breath, the queen exited the camp.

Honeycrisp followed and quickly took the lead, weaving through the territory in a purposefully confusing pattern. If anyone were to come across their scent it would be hard to follow. She could at least give Hollypool some uninterrupted time with Marbleknight.
Marbleknight paced back and forth, tail slashing through the air, as his ears strained to pick up the sound of their approach. If Honeycrisp didn't have his mate with her, well he was prepared to fight his way to her.
