Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Jokerclaw was out hunting near the border of the territory when he heard scrabbling and upon following the odd noise, slight wheezing breaths. Upon further inspection he found the tortoiseshell she-cat hiding under a bush, pawing at her neck clearly in distress. "Are you okay?" he asked, unsure of what was wrong.
The scent that wafted from the strange cat clearly wasn't that of a Clan and was tinged with the salty odor of blood. "Is... Is there a cat out there?" she rasped. "Please, don't hurt me... I can't breathe."
He caught the scent of the blood and hastened his pace forward, stopping in front of where the cat was hiding. "I won't hurt you I promise." he assured the stranger. "Why can't you breathe?" he asked.
A pair of royal blue eyes peered out at him, wide with fear and pain. From the shape and size, the cat couldn't be more than six or seven moons old. After a couple seconds of surveying the situation, the cat slowly slipped out of her hiding place. "My collar..." she mewed. Once the sunlight touched her, the kittypet collar could be seen. It was tight about her neck, and on one side, was even digging into the flesh. Blood seeped out and it smelled of infection. "I can't get it off..."
Jokerclaw froze for a moment when he saw the collar but moved forward. "What's a kittypet doing all the way out here? There's no two-leg place anywhere near here without several days of walking." he asked, though he was speaking more to himself. "Hold still." he said, sniffing at young cat's neck and trying to figure out how to get the thing off.
"I haven't lived with twolegs for a bit over a moon. I just never was able to get this thing off. Then I had a growth spurt." she growled. Upon closer inspection, nicks could be seen all along the collar. It was obvious she'd been struggling with it for some time. One nick seemed deep enough that a good bit of pressure might break it, but was very near to where the collar cut into the flesh.
He found the deep nick in the collar and noticed how close it was to the wound in her neck. "I think I can get this off but it would hurt." he warned her.
She nodded to him. "I've dealt with this for long enough. Go ahead." she mewed as she let her eyes lose focus and her breathing slowed. Her entire body relaxed a bit. The effect was almost eerie.
"I'll apologize ahead of time for this." Jokerclaw said. He took a hold of the collar with his teeth right next to where it was cut and set his claws into the ground and heaved backwards away from the she-cat with all his might, hoping that it would make it snap quickly to avoid causing the youngster more pain than she'd already dealt with.
A faint growl bubbled in her throat and her claws gripped the ground. With a loud snap, the collar came loose. For a moment, the cat trembled, but she took a couple deep breaths and relaxed. "Thank you." she managed, sitting up slowly. "It would have been awfully silly to be killed by twolegs so long after I'd fled them."
She raised her gaze to meet his. "My name is Sunny. I came here looking for the Clans that are supposed to live here. Brick told me they sometimes took in wanderers." she mewed earnestly.
"Well you're in SummerClan and we're one of the most accepting clans out there so it's probably a good thing that you stumbled across us instead of WinterClan who are known for taking outsiders as prisoners." Jokerclaw said. "Anyway I can bring you back to camp to meet our leader Frostcloud, if you want to join."
"She's young for a leader but she was deputy for a long time so she's got a lot of experience." Jokerclaw said. "She cares about her clan and watches out for everybody and is always willing to accept newcomers. You'll definitely be readily accepted."
"How old are you anyway? You look young and inexperienced enough that you'll probably be made an apprentice."
"That's why we have an apprentice system. You'll be paired up with an experienced warrior who will teach you how to hunt and defend yourself. Also since you're a former kittypet you'll be taught the ways of the clan." he said.
They arrived at a wall of intertwined brambles with only a small hole to enter. "Well here we are."
