Pantherpaw's ears pricked when she heard the word 'foxes'. She and Sootpaw had fought with a fox in the rabbit meadow but she didn't talk about it with anyone. The whole ordeal was frightening but at the same time exhilarating. Not many cats knew about this so she'd like to keep it that way. The wounds she'd received from the fight she explained away as battle training that got a bit rough. She smiled inwardly at Lupinepaw's announcement because she figured she had had more battle experience than most apprentices her age. "Yes, tell us about your battles," she added to Sunpaw's question.

"Well..." He didn't have much battle experience other than chasing off a small kittypet lingering around the border a single time and hissing at some patrols who got too close. "This one time, Spellpaw and I came upon a big mean rogue on the edge of the territory and chased him off like it was nothing." Naturally, he had to make something up to save space although Spellpaw would know the truth, no such thing had ever happened.
"A kittypet isn't going to put up a fight against clan cats." Reedleaf said with a laugh, listening to the apprentices swap stories. They had finally reached the left edge of the lake and were about to hit the border SummerClan shared with SpringClan.
"Alright we're about to pass into SpringClan. Even if there are no SpringClan cats around there may be SunClan or wild animals that would normally avoid clan lands so keep your wits about you and keep quiet." Frostcloud instructed the group.

Graythorn stepped across the border without much hesitation. He had been this way before and being a medicine cat he had the privilege of crossing boundaries without being questioned too much.
Pantherpaw carefully gazed both ways along the border before crossing. The admonition about wild animals still rang in her ears. What if there's foxes lurking about now that SpringClan is gone? A prickly sensation ran down her spine to the tip of her tail as her paws stepped across the border. She was the picture of alertness.

Lupinepaw felt his ears warm at Reedleaf's comment but he did not respond and heeded Frostcloud's words, falling silent for their trek into Springclan territory. He was glad Sunclan had left Summerclan alone because he had no real desire to fight the cats.

Pantherpaw walked beside Sunpaw and Lupinepaw. "Not counting the gathering, this is the first time I've ever set paw outside our territory. To be honest it makes me feel kinda ... well... unsure of myself." Her eyes darted back and forth from bush to bush. "I know our territory but this land is strange and smells strange too." She glanced at Sunpaw. "Do you feel the same as I do now that you've been in SummerClan for awhile?"
Sunpaw's ears twitched thoughtfully. "Traveling in general doesn't really bother me." She mewed quietly. "But passing through territory where we know hostile cats may dwell makes me a bit nervous." The admission is accompanied by an embarrassed flick of the tail and a self conscious glance in Lupinepaw's direction.

"I agree," Pantherpaw replied as she continued to cast glances back and forth looking for real and imagined enemies who may be lurking along their path. "It's a bit unnerving to be walking through here."

"It feels... quiet." The back apprentice muttered, scenting the area a bit. Most of these smells were stale and somethig about that he found to be the most unnerving of all. "If we find Sunclan cats do you think they will let us pass? They don't follow Starclan, after all. I doubt safe passage to the mooncreek means much to them." They'd probably be more offended that Summerclan wanted to speak with their ancestors instead of some God that they probably made up on a rainy day when they were feeling blue.
"If we move quietly and quickly we should not have to worry about Sunclan," Ravenstone said pointedly to the apprentices. She couldn't blame them, they were headed to the Mooncreek for the first time and she could not stay quiet herself when she was their age.

"Right, less talk and more walk," grumbled Graythorn as he agreed with Ravenstone.
Pantherpaw rolled her eyes at her brother's comment. She was tired of Graythorn's grumpiness. Lowering her voice, she meowed, "Just because he has his name already and a position in the clan, he thinks he can lord it over us." Then she added, "Humph! I'm even older than he is!" That fact was true even if it was only by a couple of minutes.
Sunpaw glanced at Pantherpaw critically. "Would you really want to trade places with him though?" Her eyes softened. "With all the pain he must witness in the course of his duties..."

It really hadn't occurred to her what her brother might be facing on a daily basis, and at such a young age too. Pantherpaw's tail drooped at the weight of Sunpaw's statement settled in. "I never really gave it a whole lot of thought before," she admitted. "I wouldn't want to be in his position."

Lupinepaw watched the interaction between the two she apprentices and decided not to say anything, giving them their moment and moved on in silence. He noticed how thoughtful and compassionate Sunpaw was towards her friend and a spark of respect shimmered in his brown eyes for a moment before he looked up at his mother, "How long until we reach the Mooncreek?"
"We still have a ways, be patient." She told him sternly but with understanding. She held back from admonishing Pantherpaw for the way she spoke of the medicine cat. Her realization of her brother's potential struggles was enough for now and Graythorn had not commented either.
Feeling her point had been made, Sunpaw gave Pantherpaw a playful shove with her shoulder. "Come on. Let's keep up. Maybe tomorrow we can go find him some herbs."

Herb gathering was never on her top ten list of things Pantherpaw enjoyed doing but maybe now she would do it with less grumbling. "Alright," she agreed, enjoying Sunpaw's friendship. Maybe herb detail wouldn't be so boring if a friend was there to help. Quickening her pace, she said, "I can't wait to see the Moon Creek."
