Crownglass sat in Harvest Hall looking about quietly at the splendid open area. He was still new to the territory, and it was one of the few locations he knew well. He should know more, he'd been here almost half a moon, but he was so preoccupied with his sickness and his mate and the kits he didn't know existed... it was a lot to take in, but he was determined to start helping his clan now. The ebony tom rose to his paws and shook out his fur.
"Let's do thins," he mumbled to himself, trying to work up some confidence.

The tortishell she cat came padding in trying to determine what was the best thing she could do to help with her clan for today. What Lightember didn't expect was to find a rather concerned looking tom cat seemingly talking to himelf, but what he was doing or saying was something she did not know. However it seemed to her that he had something on his mind and so walked right over.
"Do you need help with something?" asked the she cat asked, her yellow eyes peircing but somewhat curious. Lightember wasn't sure what the tom's name was but she had seen him around camp before, plus she also knew he was in the same clan as her by the scent he carried on him.
Crownglass looked up, startled to have some company, and offered her a quick smile. It didn't quite reach his golden eyes: they mirrored his feelings like glass, and they showed just how nervous he was. "Oh! Not really," he reassured her hastily, curling his dark plumy tail around himself. He was too embarrassed to admit he wasn't sure where to start hunting, or which areas had the best prey. This was different from the home he was used to and he was tired just thinking of everything he didn't know but needed to.
Then he sighed a little, regretting brushing her off so quickly. "Uh, wait," he mewed, glancing up at her guiltily, "I could use a little help finding someplace to hunt. I'm.... new."

"Hmmm I can show you a few spots that are useful. I'll teach you a few useful things that'll help you out but mind you I don't pretend to be an expert on things." Lightember paused before adding, "Come follow me this way." She flicked her tail in the direction she was going and continued on. The she cat would definitely help him out on more than just hunting...if he is new he can't be shy or nervous to ask things...it could cause him more harm than good.
Crownglass smiled a little, relieved she hadn't questioned him but just accepted he needed help. Last time he reached out to a FallClan cat for help it had been one of their aurulents, and the tom had yelled at him a long time for it. He climbed to his paws and hurried after Lightember. "Thank you. I'm a quick learner," he promised her, "and I'm not completely useless, I just... like I said, I'm new. I just don't know where to look."

The she cat blinked before looking at the tom as they walked,"I don't recall ever saying you were useless, and having the mindset will only hurt yourself than help. Being new at things isn't bad either. After all we all start somewhere, as long as you are trying to improve in yourself that is all that matters."
They walked for sometime in silence before Lightember spoke again to Crownglass. "If you don't mind me asking is there a particular reason as to why you were so afraid to ask for help initially? Do you feel that you are burdening a cat when you do?" Not many felines liked her directness to things but it was all meant in good intentions.
Crownglass nodded quietly, absorbing her words. He knew she was right, and he told himself that often, but it was still difficult. It shouldn't be hard to remind himself he could be strong - he had made a long journey to this clan to be with his mate and it hadn't been easy - but sometimes he felt so inadequate.
He sighed. "I suppose that might be it," he admitted. "This is the third clan I've lived it. I had never had an easy time fitting in, not even in my home clan, and it's hard to be starting over every time I come somewhere new." Crownglass paused and licked his chest self-consciously. "I don't regret leaving, though. I'm glad I came here. But I don't feel like a good warrior when I have to start over so often, and it does feel like I'm troubling everyone else to ask for help all the time. I know it bothers them. I got yelled at just the other day for being too needy."

The she cat paused in her walked and suddenly sat down. Lightember 's eyes glowed as she spoke to Crownglass,"We all have our struggles and our own stories. Perhaps its because I came to the clan as an outsider but from how I see things you do what you must to survive. You haven't hurt anyone within the clan and you contribute to the clan itself. I don't see you being lazy or sitting on your butt complaining. I see a cat trying his best for himself and his family...after aren't we all trying our best out here? Trying to find our place in this world? I don't think anyone should have yelled at you, and trust me if I see them I'll have a few choice words for them." Tail lashing side to side the tortishell calico took a deep breath before going on. "You will definitely doubt yourself but think of what you have accomplished: you and your mate are alive, healthy, and safe. You have a mate and I can garuntee you probably have friends within this clan you may not realize yet...when you doubt yourself or start to second guess remember that you are here and you have survived thus long. Thats an accomplishment living out here in the wilds."
Crownglass smiled; he couldn't help feeling warmed by her words. He didn't know Lightember at all and yet here she was, being so kind and honest with him. "Thank you," he purred, dipping his head. "it means a lot that you think that. I am trying my best and I really have come a long way."
He studied her through curious golden eyes and reached out to put one paw on hers. "I didn't know you weren't born here. I don't mean to be too forward," he hesitated, "but you've already been very kind to me. If you ever need anything, some support or just someone to eat with, come find me, okay? My family is always happy to have others around." He smiled softly. He loved his family a great deal, especially because they had taken him in despite being an outsider. They all had their struggles but they were there to make it through them together, and he knew none of them would mind helping her out either if she was lonely in this clan.

"You're fine, you weren't rude or anything in the slightest so don't be concerned about it," she said with the wave of her tail dismissively. "I also appreciate the kind gesture and thank you for that. I'll make sure to remember that if I ever need help. However I do believe that others should show some decent respect for one another at the very least, and it's sad to hear you weren't given that." How could anyone be that way? To make a feline in help feel like a hindrance rather than a comrade or even clan mate.
Lightember stood up and spoke again, this time a tad bit stern. "This is a good place to start hunting. A few cats prefer this area in particular because of how its centered. There is a nice clearing in front of us that is particularly great for catching birds and mice, sometimes voles as well. Surrounding that and all around us is the small forest that gives us squirrels and chipmunks to prey on. I haven't seen rabbits in these areas but that does not mean they can't be found or not exist in this particular territory. With that in mind what is it you wish to try to hunt today?"
Crownglass nodded gratefully. He took a deep breath and refocused on what she was saying about hunting. She was right: he could smell the prey immediately when he took in a breath, and even the stale scents seemed relatively recent. It was a good spot to hunt, and he was already looking forward to testing out his skills again. "Let's go for a vole or a mouse," he decided, raising his chin as he gained a little more confidence. "We had a lot of ground prey back home, I think I'll be better off starting with those."

"Sounds good to me, I'll follow you a little ways but keep my distance so I won't startle your prey. If you havd questions all you have to do is act." The tortishell calico got up and kept a close eye on Crownglass and was curious to see what would happen next.
Crownglass nodded slowly. He could do this. He proceeded forward a few steps and lifted his muzzle to taste the air, letting it fill his tongue. Lightsoul said there were squirrels and chipmunks in this area, so he focused on those scents, and sure enough, he detected a chipmunk had passed by recently.
"This way," he murmured, creeping after the scent trail.

Lightember watched thoughtfully and carefully as the tom went about his hunt. So far he was doing everything right from scenting the air to walking on quick and silent paws. The one thing the she cat saw he struggled with was confidence in himself, which in time with help he could over come. The she cat continued to watch and follow from a great length behind, making mental notes on anything she may need to tell the tom later.
The ebony tomcat led her down the trail of the prey until they were close enough to hear it chittering softly. He paused, ears pricked. The chipmunk must have detected them nearby, or some other prey, and was defending its little slice of territory. Crownglass glanced about until he spotted it perched on a tree a few tail-lengths from him.
"There," he breathed to Lightsoul. But it was facing them. How could they catch the chipmunk if it was watching?

Quietly the she cat slinked slowly behind the prey that watched Crownglass intently. Lightember allowed her calico fur to blend in with the dirt and leaves, and gave a small chirrup. Not enough to scare away the prey but hopefully enough to get it to look in her direction. She allowed her eyes to close to almost slights to keep them from shinning within the darkness (or well as best as a cat could.) Hopefully that would be enough to help out the tom, thought Lightember to herself.
His head tilted as she left his side. Did she have a plan? Crownglass remained still but watched her progress as best as he could, and when he heard the faint cry, he finally understood what she was doing. The chipmunk was properly distracted by her, so the ebony tom fell into a crouch and moved in on it stealthy. When he was at the base of the fallen tree's trunk, he gathered his strength. One, two big leaps, and he slammed the chipmunk lifeless to the ground.

Lightember rose back up and padded over to the tom and gave him a look of approval with a warm smile. "That was excellent Crownglass. Especially how you realized what I was doing without vocal communication to one another. Your quick to pick things up, which is something some cats aren't capable of doing. Keep up the good work, but remember there is always room for improvement. That you also have some skill others don't."
"Thanks." Crownglass glowed like a new apprentice at the praise. "I haven't hunted with other cats like that before, we used to use tail signals and then just rush the prey, but this worked really well too." Sometimes it was hard to see other cats and that made it hard to coordinate their attacks, but he didn't need to see her to hear her yell at the prey.

"I'm glad to have assisted you in this hunt...and I do believe your better at this than you believe. I'd be more than happy to do this again with you. You know I've heard of tail signals when hunting but I haven't done that alot myself. When I was taught to hunt I was taught to follow the shadows...be as stealthy as the environment around me would allow me to be. If you ever want more tips or to hunt again like this please feel free to ask me." Lightember gave a small smile with the tip of her tail slightly twitching with amusement.
