Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Chimerastar rarely paid attention to the new arrivals in the clan; cats joined them frequently and most of them left before the end of the week, deciding the clan wasn't suited to their style. Chim was fine with that, but it came to his attention that one of their newest warriors, Intrepidsoul, was a former traveler. Chim had settled his clan outside SpringClan for the time being, but he was enjoying the traveling life, and he wanted to continue it. If Intrepidsoul had lived that life before... maybe he'd have some advice.
The orange tom rested in the mouth of his den that morning, looking over the camp as they assembled for patrols. He waited until most of the warriors were out of their dens, then cleared his throat. "Intrepidsoul," he called gruffly, scanning to see which of them he was speaking to, "come and sit with me."

The grey and silver tabby walked out into the open morning air, stretching as thw sun washed over him. His grey eyes shone with not a hint of sleepiness to them, rather alert and ready for action. Intrepidsoul had been in the clan long enough to know some cats by their names and even finally befriended a handful of them. That's why it was to his suprise he was called upon by the great leader Chimerastar. Hearing his own name the tom walked over to Chim and meowed a greeting. "Good morning Chimerastar, enjoying the day so far?" His tone was mellow and relaxed as always.
"Well enough," he responded with a twitch of his ear. "How are you settling into the clan?" Despite having welcomed many cats into his clan already, Chim still sounded awkward. He had never been a cat for small talk and while he learning it was sometimes necessary, he wasn't very comfortable wasting time on simple niceties.

"Pretty well actually, a lot more adjusted than I thought I would have been. It's actually nice being in a place like this...where cats rely on one another and there is true friendships and families. It's always rough living out here in the wilds but if you have others you trust and rely on...definitely makes a difference. " The tom paused for a moment before quickly adding," Ahh sorry for the rambling. Truly I think this is an amazing clan."
"No," he interrupted quickly, "please do go on." Chim paused, not wanting to sound too pushy. "I'm glad you're fitting into the clan, Intrepidsoul. It may be difficult to work with other cats at first, but I trust it will become easier with time." He curled his tail around his paws. "But you mentioned living out in the wild. Were you alone back then? You didn't share a den with anyone?"

The tom was considerate for the moment before he spoke,"Well I had parents like any cat but they believed when you got to a certain age it was best to go on your own and live your own life. I had very few siblings but they all departed on their own...well save for the twins but then again I never thought they would ever separate from one another those tricksters. Anyway I always continued forward and saw many ways of life...both good and bad. Farmlands, cities, small towns, some marshlands, the beach once, and of course the forests. There were cats I befriended but none peaked my interest in sharing a cave and even my most adventurous friends came to a point where they wished to stop their travels and stay somewhere permanent. I however was a restless soul and continued on to see everything I could. On the flip side I met very cruel and rather evil felines...I would try to avoid fights if I could and ended up being creative in ways to ditch or trap them (not in a way that would cost a life of course) but once or twice I would have to fight. It's not easy living in the wilds but it was refreshing and overall the memories were worth it. As you can imagine however I DID start to become lonely and I would think back to my family. I often wonder where they are all at and whom is still alive, but it was this that made me realize I would like to settle down and be surrounded by friends. Perhaps even share a cave with someone and have kits. It whatever destiny allows it to be, what is meant to be will happen and rushing won't make things come faster."
Well...that was a lot to say but I mean it was the truth. Many cats didn't believe everything he saw but then again he wasn't a young feline himself.
Chimerastar hung onto every word with an intense focus that was rare for him. The reserved tomcat rarely showed a strong interest in anything, but this was important to him. Chim spent his entire life in his clan. When he was young he strayed from his borders and he paid for it dearly: he lost his eye, and with it went the next few dozen moons of his life. He had stayed inside of his clan until he was forced out of it by the flooding that destroyed his clan, and then he was chased from clan to clan until he made his own. Traveling from his old territory to this spot outside the Mountain Clans was one of the longest journies of his life... and he had loved every moment of it. Despite the hunger, despite the suffering. His clan already knew, vaguely, that they weren't going to live here forever, that they were going to move on again. But he needed to know for certain this life was viable before he told his clan they would never find a permanent home.
"What if you traveled with other cats?" he asked quietly. "With your family? You were lonely and unsafe, but what if you had a whole clan with you?"

"Hmmm, its hard to say but if I had others to live with I feel we would have continued to travel until we perhaps found a spot worth to stay in. My family was always going where the wind took us, and its great because its landed me here but you want to ask yourself this: would you always want to travel or find a territory to call your own? I've met cats of both cases and there isn't a real answer to this question as it all depends on the cat. Myself? I'd be fine staying in this clan myself and travel within it as long as I can call this place my own. As being a leader...I'd stick to what your gut tells you. That's whats always made my decisions and I mean it led me here." Intrepidsoul gave a small wink, having a small idea of what Chimerastar was trying to ask.
Chim absorbed it with a nod. This wasn't the first time he'd heard tales of other wanderers, but he had to be sure. Now he had an answer. "Thank you. Unless there's anything else you need from me, that will be all. You can go rejoin the patrols---"
Chim trailed off as he realized the patrols were already assigned and sent off. He had taken up too much of Intrepidsoul's time and now he wasn't going to be part of anything for the day. It had been a mistake to talk to him so early; now the new joiner would be left alone all day.

The leader paused in his remarks, and Intrepidsoul was curious as to what to do. "Um if there is anything you'd like me to do I can do so...or uh help in anyway I can." The leader of the clan was very polite at least as to what the tom thought. However he was fully aware of what Chim had realized...about the same time as he had. Well until Chimerastar thought of something Intrepidsoul was glad to learn and get to know the leader more.
Chim mulled over the problem in silence. He didn't want to leave someone new to the clan alone for too long - not because he mistrusted Intrepidsoul, but because he knew how lonely it could be. "You can help with some of my duties for the day and join the next wave of hunters as they leave," he concluded at last. "I will try not to make the day too mind-numbing for you, but I will offer a warning. Being leader isn't as glamorous as it might seem."

Intrepidsoul blinked, he would be helping the leader with his duties? This was a very unusual but rather interesting thing to do and for for that reason Intrepidsoul soul was slightly excited "I'd be more than happy to help you, and honestly I can't imagine being a leader would ever be easy. Are there a lot of duties you do as leader? I only know perhaps a small portion of them."
"There are," he allowed, "and each duty is more tedious than the last." He rose to his paws and stretched his spine. "We can start with something easy - making sure the apprentices are all off to training. I never thought managing the young cats would be a leader's job, but last time I didn't check in with them, my daughter nearly clawed my ears off." Chim rolled his eyes.

"Oh I bet they are a pawfull, and this coming from my own account of being that way their age when my parents tried to teach me anything." He did not envy Chim in this job, but at the same time it must be pretty cool for the young apprentices to see and perhaps talk to the leader...that is if they weren't causing any trouble at the time.
"If you ask my sister, I was the same way. I threw a fit when she was first assigned as my mentor. I thought my mother was trying to punish me," Chim told him, a bit of humor in his voice. None of his siblings had a family member for a mentor, so he thought Phoenixstar was angry with him, but over time he had grown incredibly close with Swangrace. He missed her with all his heart.
He led the way toward the small bushes and barrier that made up the apprentice's den and peered inside, looking for apprentices.

The humor was in the leader's voice the Intrepidsoul saw a flash of sadness shine in the leaders eyes before disappearing quickly. So fast it made Intrepidsoul wonder if he hadn't just imagined what he saw... Following Chim the tom came to a halt behind the cat and looked around, wondering where the apprentices were. Although he didn't hear them Intrepidsoul figured they were around their den somewhere.
It looked like most of the apprentices were out of the den already, probably with their mentors or on patrol. That was good, it made their job much easier until Chim noticed one apprentice left in the den: Luckypaw.
"Luckypaw? You should be in SummerClan," he said with a shake of his head. The apprentice should have been on exchange still.
"I know," the cream-colored tom cried, his ears pinning back, "but I don't like it there. I don't know anyone! Don't make me go back." Luckypaw turned his pleading gaze on Intrepidsoul.

Summerclan cat? "If you don't mind me asking..why did you leave Summerclan? And why do you wish to stay in Swiftclan." Intrepidsoul didn't know Luckypaw but it seemed the leader did. The tom was an apprentice and didn't seem like a threat so the warrior would be kind to him, although slightly on guard. Who was this feline?
"I didn't want to stay there anymore, it was lonely without my family," Luckypaw mumbled. "Ratstar is nice, but it's not the same. I want to come home." His time in the apprentice exchange wasn't over yet, so he should still be with the other clan, but he wanted to come home to SwiftClan already. He was done living somewhere else.

Sympathy washed over the warrior as he could understand the apprentice's feeling of being home sick. "I can imagine missing your family and wanting to be home. I have to ask though, how long is the apprentice exchange for? Would your family be okay with you leaving so soon?"
