Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Giantpaw walked by the fresh-kill pile, debating on grabbing a piece of prey. He wasn't particularly hungry and he knew he should leave the food for a cat who was, but he was so bored. The large tom flicked his tail in annoyance and turned his back on the food, deciding against it for now. It was late in the evening, so the clan was moving around as things began to pick up for the night.
The apprentice watched cats walk to and fro, but honestly he was so much better than so many of these cats that he didn't feel the need to communicate with any of them. He wondered briefly what his mentor was up to and whether he should go try to find him and join in on a patrol or something, but he changed his mind when his stomach began to growl. So maybe he was hungry after all.
Giantpaw turned back to the pile of prey and hunted through it for something small, still unsure whether his stomach was actually hungry or just moaning in sympathy. He had settled on the perfect piece when he heard something. His brown eyes lifted and fell on one of his siblings.
Shadowedpaw yawned as he awoke from his nest in the apprentice's den. Again. Yet another day he had to endure being an apprentice. How much longer do I have to wait for my promotion to become a warrior. He had already met the moon requirement for it, but he wasn't sure what the wait was for. Was it because he was chosen as one of the Loyal Guard and he had already proven himself and receiving his warrior name was just a formality? Who knows? Shrugging it off, he rose from his nest and stretched, letting out another yawn. His stomach suddenly grumbled. "Guess its time to eat, huh?" As he exited the Apprentice's den, he looked in the direction of the fresh-kill pile only to lock eyes with his younger sibling. He offered the tom a friendly smile. "Well hello there, Giantpaw."

Graypaw who had been exercising his legs outside the camp by doing a run, came back hungry. Since he hadn't a mentor yet, he thought he's keep fit for training when the time came. He didn't want to fall too far behind the other apprentices his own age, especially his own brother. He spotted his brothers at the fresh kill pile and made his way over to them. "Hello," he meowed to both at the same time. "Anything look good? I'm starved."
"Hey, Graypway," the tom greeted as he looked over the pile for a decently sized bite to eat but didn't see anything worth it. "Nope, nothing good here but then again that depends on what you consider 'good'." Shadowedpaw joked with a smile. "Oh, That reminds me! I know you've been training in your free time since, you know, you don't have a mentor yet. I have a proposal for you, dear brother, how would you like it if I taught you everything I know?"

Greypaw didn't know for sure how to take his brother's offer. Was he being kind, genuinely offering his help? Or was he teasing him in a condescending way? "Eaglepaw has showed me some things," he replied not actually responding either way to the offer. "I know how to crouch while hunting and how to stalk a mouse." He hadn't actually caught one yet but he wasn't going to reveal that fact unless asked.
"Oh...,"Shadowedpaw frowned, disappointed that he wouldn't be able to share Waspcrush's teachings. "That was nice of Eaglepaw to do." There was nothing he could do about that. At least then, he wouldn't be left behind. He offered him a small smile. "Well if you ever want to learn more stuff, just let me know.

Sensing that Shadedpaw was really trying to be helpful, Greypaw replied, "Actually, I'd like to learn all I can before I get a mentor. Whenever you have time, I'd be happy to learn whatever you want to teach me."
The tom's eyes lit up instantly and he bounced with happiness, feeling that he could redeem himself. "That's great!" he exclaimed loudly. But with the sudden realization of how loud he was, his ears flattened as he glanced around to make sure no one would show up to scold him. Seeing he was clear, he cleared his throat and composed himself. "I mean, I have free later if you don't have anything going on then," he offered.

Greypaw smiled at his brother's exuberance. "That'll be great! I'll look forward to it." He then turned his attention back to the fresh kill pile and pawed through it. He pushed aside two mice, one shrew, and a mole before discovering a plump wood pigeon. "Now this looks good," he mewed as he pulled it from the pile. It was too big for him to eat alone however. "Who'd like to share this?"
Giantpaw watched as his brothers interacted, distracted from his breakfast. Greypaw chose the same piece of prey that he had been originally eyeing, and the apprentice lashed his tail in annoyance before he heard his brother offer to share it. "I'd like to," he said, coming up beside Greypaw. The giant tom's mouth was watering and he decided he was more hungry than bored now. Before he took a bite, he looked over to Shadedpaw. "I still need to learn more about hunting. I'd like for you to teach me, too. I want to be better than all of those mixed blooded cats in our clan."
"Yes! The more the merrier," he said with a wide smile, but something did bother him. Mixed blooded cats. It wasn't until recently found out that he wasn't born to Mosaicdawn and Bloodtusk, but rather adopted at a young age. Growing up believing that NightClan was meant to be of pure-blooded cats, it was a shock to find out they weren't his biological parents. He was grateful for what they did but it made him question why, especially since he wasn't part of their bloodline. He wasn't sure if his siblings didn't know this or they just didn't care since they practically grew up together, but he wasn't complaining. But it was all conflicting to Shadowedpaw and it made his head hurt just thinking about it. Shaking the thought from his head, he awkwardly agreed with Giantpaw.

Greypaw nearly choked on his food as he was swallowing when Giantpaw said what he did about 'pure-bloods'. He recovered quickly however and continued to eat. I just don't see why they've bought into all that stuff we've been told for so long. Why can't they understand it's not about 'blood' but it's about loyalty? Not wanting to cause an argument, he decided to remain silent on that matter, at least for now. "So what are you going to teach us to hunt?" he asked Shadowedpaw. "Birds maybe?"
Shadowedpaw shrugged. "Anything you want to learn I can probably teach you at this point. Anytime now, I'll be promoted warrior," he said proudly with a beaming smile. All he had to was wait to get Waspcrush's blessing it will be done...eventually. "Anyway, yeah, I could teach you the perfect way to hunt birds, if you want. I have a perfect, well almost perfect, catch rate with them."

"Really?" Greypaw asked eagerly. "You never missed any? I heard they're harder to catch because they can fly away." Sometimes he envied the birds because they could fly. It would have been so cool if cats had that ability too. No more worries of falling out of trees or off of cliffs. "If you miss a mouse or a shrew you have a second chance by chasing them." Although he had been told by Eaglepaw that the chances are less if you miss the first time. You have to get them before they dive down their holes.
"I've caught every one I've went after and," the tom winked playfully, "I'm sure you can do it too if you follow my teachings! But yeah, it's all about timing - knowing when to move in closer and when to pounce. Too early or too late, you'll miss them. Unlike, with ground prey, you'll rarely get a second chance since it can fly to a higher place or fly away altogether," he added.

"Every one? Wow!" Greypaw meowed, impressed with his older brother's prowess. "I can't wait to learn. I want to amaze my new mentor when I get one with what I already know."
He finished eating what he wanted of the wood pigeon and pushed the rest of it closer to Giantpaw. "I'm done. You can finish it if you want."
Giantpaw rubbed his muzzle proudly against Shadowedpaw. "Of course you'll be promoted soon," he purred. "Look at you! You come from the best family." Then he listened to them discuss prey for a moment, sitting back and enjoying the easy flow of conversation between his brothers. He was really such a lucky tom. As Greypaw pushed his pigeon toward him, Giantpaw purred and finished it off, settling that grumble that had been in his stomach. "Thanks," he said, mouth full of bird. It didn't take long, and he tacked on, "Let's get started then! I'm ready to learn, Shadowedpaw."
"You should probably let that digest there, Giantpaw" he said with a chuckle. "I don't want you moving all sluggish on me when we go catch some birds." He turned his gaze onto Greypaw. "We'll be leaving in few minutes if there was something you needed to do before that."

Greypaw was too excited to want to do anything else. "I'm ready whenever you are," he replied. "It's really great you're going to be promoted soon. I wonder what name Flamingstar will give you. I bet it'll be something cool like Shadowedclaw or maybe Shadowedstrike." Even with the tensions he felt within their own family over the importance of 'blood', he was happy they all were brothers.
