Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Snow was falling in thick heavy chunks from the light grey painted skies. The wind was still making the cold more with standable. On two opposing sides of the field were large mounds of snow stationed as snow forts and a pile of six sloppily premade snowballs for the two to battle.
Sootpaw was in a crabby mood. She felt like this blind date was a waste of time, but she was older and her cooperation had been encouraged. The she-cat knew herself well enough to realize that this couldn't possibly go well. Her moodiness and tendency to lash out had kept other cats in her own clan away from her. What were the odds a cat from a different clan - one whose territory she was on, at that - would feel any different?
She had just decided to be herself and to be honest. There would be no pretense that she was here to just give her heart away to a stranger. Sootpaw would show this other cat her true colors straight away and they would both part, going their separate ways.
Upon reaching the field, Sootpaw was amazed to see...mounds of snow. What in the name of Starclan were these for? The pitch-black apprentice crept forward, sniffing at the one closest to her hesitantly. Winterclan cats sure were into some weird rituals.
Frigidpaw is bipolar, and because of that, he doesn't have many friends. It a moment of manic, he'd signed up for the blind date with DayClan. Even now he wants to make friends, and part of him thinks that a cat from a different clan, though it's discouraged, could become one of his first true friends. The tom's siblings like him, he thinks, but still who wants to just be friends with their siblings?
So here he was, at the meeting spot in his own clan's territory, waiting patiently for this other cat to show up. He'd gotten here early in a bout of manic energy and created two forts and some snowballs to play his favorite game. The first game he learned with his siblings to play and has loved ever since. Spotting a new cat approaching, he jumped to his paws and called out, "Hello!"
Sootpaw yanked her nose away from the pile of snow when she heard a voice call out. Heart thumping from surprise, she sat down and licked at the fur on her chest, trying to show that she hadn't been spooked. After a few seconds to calm down, the she-cat stood up again and carefully made her way over to the cat who had spoken.
"Hi," she meowed, eyeing the other cat up and down. He looked nothing like her, and the thought made her relax. She was usually harsher to cats with darker pelts. Although she knew it was a shameful behavior, she found it difficult to control. The feelings of betrayal were deep rooted in her.
Sootpaw was aware that she should ask the tom's name, but she couldn't help being rude. There was no point in trying to make a friend when she knew she would just run him off on accident anyway.
She wanted to immediately tell him to go home, or that she was going, but honestly the scene around her was sparking her curiosity. It got the better of her and instead she asked, "What are all these snow piles for?"
"A snowball fight. It's my favorite game so I figured we could play it! What do you say?" Frigidpaw grinned, hope in his eyes as he motioned towards the too piles behind him. The tom didn't care that she hadn't asked his name, didn't even think about the fact that she hadn't. Besides he hadn't offered his name either, but he didn't think about it though as he was use to everyone knowing each others name like they did in the clan.
A snowball fight? Sootpaw was baffled. This tom expected her to fight with balls of snow like she was some type of WinterClan crazy? Still, something in his eyes intrigued her and she surprised herself yet again by nodding in assent.
"Okay, I guess." The apprentice's grin was contagious, and she felt her own mouth lift up in a smirk. "So, how's it work?"
The black she-cat turned away for a moment, examining the snow beside her. Curiously she batted one of the balls and watched it roll a very short distance away. It appeared that she needed to bat it harder. This time, she raised her head and looked over at the WinterClan apprentice and twitched her tail playfully. "Sort of like this?"
Then she used all her might to bop the ball of snow, sending it sailing in the tom's direction. If there was an easier way to do it, she sure didn't know about it. But she sort of thought it would be funny to watch another cat get pelted with snow. Maybe there was a point to this strange game after all!
Before checking to see if the snow had landed on its target, Sootpaw dove behind the mound of snow that was nearby, feeling herself laugh at the exhilaration of possible retaliation from the other cat. She found herself hoping that he would send another ball of snow back. Was it really this easy to have fun?
(cookie Sorry . I really don't know how to role-play him yet, haven't fleshed him out much yet to know what he's like in an actually role play as this is the second one he's been in. So sorry for my short reply )
Now covered in snow from the she-cat's attack, Frigidpaw grinned like no other. "Yea! Just like that." Taking cover, the orange and white tom began returning fire against his date. The cover he'd created wasn't very big, but they'd off cover if you ducked behind them. Not paying attention, he left half his body hanging out after taking cover following his attack.
Sootpaw felt wired which translated to, somehow, more alive. The apprentice was taken by surprise by the first snowball the other cat shot at her and felt the cold snow bop her right on the nose. She yanked her head back behind the snow mound, trying to fit her body behind it as best she could. Snow attacks went all around her, sometimes landing, sometimes not. She peeked over to try to aim her next snowball at the tom and noticed his half his orange and white body outside the safety of his snow pile. The black cat wondered briefly about trying a different method of attack. She tried to avoid his gaze and take advantage of the times he wasn't looking her way to creep around behind his snow mound. Coming up behind him, she meowed loudly, "Gotcha!" and pounced at him, trying to just grab at his tail so as not to seem like she was really attacking. Unused to the snow, Sootpaw ended up mouth-first and ate dirt - or, well, snow. It went up her nose and into her mouth, and the she-cat sat up, sputtering and coughing. Her attack had failed, and she stopped feeling the fun of the situation, now sort of humiliated.
_ ooc; hey, np take your time figuring it out, this thread is just for fun anyway. no stress from me ^^
Frigidpaw having been spooked by his attacker, raced away as though a fox was on his tail! How had she done that? If he hadn't learned to be fast to escape other situations like his from his siblings then she'd have surely caught him. Turning around and pulling his front body down into a crouch, the tom turned his wicked grin on her. "How'd you do that? It was fantastic!" Gazing upon her, he noted the snow in her pelt and the mixing of her black fur with the white and laughed. "You look like Pineflurry!" cookie
Sootpaw had been braced for a humiliating comment, but she felt herself relax as the tom didn't say anything negative about the flop. She cocked her head to the side and inquired, "Who is Pineflurry?" The other cat was intrigued by the apprentice's relaxed attitude at everything, and she felt unusually calm in response. She was proud of herself for not snapping at him, and suddenly she was also curious as to what his name even was. "And wait, what is your name?"
"Oh, Pineflurry is this tom in WinterClan that loves to sit out in the blizzards and storms that roll through the land. Some call him crazy, but I guess he's kind of cool. Plus he's this black and white mixed cat, kind of how you look right now!" The tom grinned at the thought, maybe she could meet the tom. He'd only had good experiences the few times he'd gone hunting with the warrior. "I'm Frigidpaw." He curled up in the snow to watch her with his head tipped sideways in wonder. It amazed him that she'd just now asked. "What's yours?" cookie
Sootpaw felt a laugh bubble out of her before she could contain it. "What a mouse-brain! I can't believe he'd just stand out in the snow!" She watched the tom curl up in the snow and leaned a bit, realizing she was sitting quite stiffly. "I'm Sootpaw. Sorry, I didn't even think to introduce myself."
The she-cat looked around at the snow everywhere and gestured at where Frigidpaw was lying in the snow. "How are you able to just lay in all that? My paws are numb!"
"Really? I think it feels nice, but maybe I'm just used to it. Wait! Maybe I'm as crazy as Pineflurry." At that thought, Frigidpaw jumped up and looked down at the space he'd just been laying in, his eyes were wide as he thought about being crazy like Pineflurry. He already had that issue, the one the Witch said he had a few days ago....that he couldn't remember the name of at the moment. Looking towards the pretty she-cat across from him, he worried that she wouldn't want to hang out with him anymore now that he's "crazy."
The apprentice eyed Frigidpaw at his quick movement from where he had been laying in the snow. "Why're your eyes so big?" she asked, one eyebrow raised. Whoever this Pineflurry was, Sootpaw decided not to mention him again. He got the tom all worked up. "Anyway, do you want to keep playing the game? I think we're out of snowballs." pao
Frigidpaw looked around him, yeah they were out of the ones he'd made up but they could always make more. But maybe they should do something else? "We could go find something else to do? Wintrystar just said I couldn't bring you to camp. That was her one rule for this thing." He thought about it and tried to think of something she'd like. A tour? No, she'd get bored of that quick. Maybe he could show her the steaming lake? It was basically a hot spring and all of the cats of WinterClan loved laying near the heat.
Sootpaw nodded. That made sense. "Sure, we could go somewhere else." The she-cat shuddered involuntarily. All this snow was making her paws numb and she began hopping on them, trying to keep them equally off of the cold ground. "Is there anywhere that's uh .. less snowy?"
Less snowy? Um..did WinterClan have any areas that were...less snowy? "There's um..there's the border?" Did she want to walk all the way to the border with SpringClan or FallClan. Frigidpaw looked around them, trying to think of a different area that had less snow. "There's the hot springs, but...but were not allowed to get in it unless there's a warrior around. Just in case."
Sootpaw nodded, still dancing on her paws. "Okay, if you don't want to get into trouble, I understand." The DayClan apprentice thought a moment about where else they could go. There was no way she was going to be escaping the cold if the only non-snowy place was the border. "Why don't you show me to your favorite place that we're allowed to visit then?"
"Oh! That'd be camp...but we're not allowed to bring strangers. So...maybe the Peak?" It was a dangerous climb and he'd only recently found the path to it, but it was a pretty view. Frigidpaw crouched down, excited about showing her one of the highest views in the territory. It was cold up there, so hopefully, she didn't mind that. "Or..we could go to DayClan if you're cold?"
