Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Cadet Zion dipped his head to Commander Shule, her words warming his heart, but for now remained in place. Xuxa would still be at home and he couldn't ignore the tight ties he had made in WinterClan. He didn't want to leave these cats behind.
"We all came in together so my reason is the same as every other cadet though?" Cadet Zion said in confusion hoping he didn't come off too disrespectful, but was always a bit confused on why WinterClan demanded to know how they got into Renegade Regime. It seemed perfectly reasonable that they walked into the snowy land, certainly other MountainClans had too so why were they being questioned so much? The whole thing felt odd to him. His lighting green gaze caught Cadet Louella's as he looked the other way before forgetting that she couldn't make eye contact with him with his shaggy bangs.
Wintrystar growled, "yes, and why would you use such weak cats to learn secrets? They'd be the least suspected by anotehr clan and the first to be released. No, I want to know how you got so deep into our territory without ever passing the border. My warriors searched the borders where you should have crossed and found no scents. Now, how did you get into our territory!" She was furious that cats managed to get into their lands, undetected and without crossing the borders. There must be another way, but how?
Snakefang sat idle for too long and spoke up, padded up to Wintrystar's side. "Could it be possible that there are tunnels that run under our lands that we aren't aware of? That could explain how they could have gone undetected," he suggested to his leader. The time he spent with Zion tipped him off. The way he talked about certain things didn't add up to him so that led him to the idea that there was an underground system that cats used to get from one location to another.
"Are there?" Her attention turned on the Commander, curious about if what Snakefang said was true. How she wished it wasn't, but it made sense if it was. But, how far did these tunnels go? All the way into their camp? Where they'd caught these cadets hadn't been far from the camp, so what other ones were out there and were they closer or even in the camp?
"Its true" Frostcloud stepped forward, calmly. "I dont know if the tunnels run all the way to the Renegade territory but Lionwhisper fell through one when we found the cadets on our territory. At first, we thought nothing of it. We assumed it was just an old tunnel system but now that the pieces are coming together, it seems like the tunnels connect our territories. Perhaps that is how the cadets passed the borders as well."

Shule remained silent as cats started to speak up, her ear merely twitching at Wintrystar's hostility, ever the calm, stoic leader. "I understand your anger, Wintrystar. Your clanmates are almost certainly correct that there must be at least one tunnel leading to your land, and it's likely there's more. The Regime tunnels system is extensive, and even we do not know it's full reach beyond the borders we claim. I couldn't tell you where this tunnel was that they used. Even in the best of circumstances, abandoned tunnels collapse, and new ones are made by animals." It wasn't a lie. She knew the tunnels exceptionally well, and it only made sense that they connected. After all, the Regime and FallClan had their own history with each other and the tunnels. WinterClan wasn't so far off. Even so, it wasn't like the Regime kept a catalogue of the furthest reaches. They knew a lot, sure, but she was right in that she couldn't say where they'd come from. "However, if the Cadets have any clue where the tunnel is, I would be happy to help you bury it should you want or need the help. They should never have been this far out to begin with, and will be dealt with accordingly."
It was here that Shule's voice cooled a fraction. Nowhere close to hostility, of course, she wasn't trying to start a war. But she wasn't going to stand here and tolerate Wintrystar's outlandish claims. "But, as much as I understand your anger, I do not appreciate the implication that they have been sent here to spy. If you truly thought that, then Zion should never have been offered a place among your ranks in the first place. I will admit the fault of the situation falls to myself as the Regime Commander that they were here at all. Even so, I will not let you simply throw unfounded accusations our way, when I am doing my best to find solutions and make up for the trouble that has been caused." She wanted to make a name for herself as an honest leader, but not a weak one. The white pawed Commander would stand up when she was wrongfully accused, and even in the heart of WinterClan's camp, she would not let their leader walk over her. As such, her head was held just as high as before. If Wintrystar could prove that she or Gossamer intended on sending them to infiltrate the clan, that was one thing. If not, then it was just trying to stir up trouble over a simple matter of getting lost or Cadets who thought they could get away with it. Besides, they had spies for a reason. She wouldn't send Cadets when she had cats she could guarantee would be able to keep themselves from being noticed, let alone caught, on WinterClan territory.
"I'm sorry, hold on, you locked us away for moons and that's what you wanted to know? I thought you were just punishing us for invading and wanted us to confess to some non existent plan to attack WinterClan, not how we got here. No one ever asked me that, that should have been like question number one and I didn't mention it freely cause I just thought everyone knew. Like FallClan definitely knew, they had a rank called cave guards trying to keep us out. And then with NovaClan, every clan was concerned about us cause we live underground," Cadet Zion tried to explain, but couldn't help the amazement in his tone. Sheesh, he talked to more WinterClan warriors than anyone and not a single one of them ever asked him how he got that deep into the territory. Not like it was any living Regime members fault they had tunnels underneath all territories. It was their early ancestors who had made them all, not even he knew that the specific tunnel led into WinterClan, it was old and frosty with ice. "Honestly, I don't know where it's at anymore, if someone asked me from the beginning then yeah, I'd happily show them. But now the winds shifted the snow and I still don't know this territory at all to be able to retrace back where we even were let alone where it was located."
Cadet Zion looked back at the knights, "How did none of you ask us that?"
I honestly dont know why he would have been admitted into WinterClan anyway being an outsider. Snakefang looked between the two of them, confusion evident on his face. It wasnt his place to question either one of them but nothing made sense to him. "Something doesnt add up. How do you lose track of a young cat like that for such a long period of time?" Its almost like there is a lack of accountability. If the Regime was as small as Zion said it was, they should be able to know who is and who's not there.
"We assumed you simply managed to cross the border without being spotted. None of us thought to check to see how you got in. We were too busy dodging your snow balls, young Zion." Frostcloud answered, an edge in her tone. In reality, she was quite embarrassed that such a skilled soldier such as herself could have missed such vital information.
“Just how many tunnels are there? How many come into WinterClan’s territory?” Would she need to station a warrior at each tunnel entrance to keep them out? Just how would they manage this? Wintrystar pauses for a moment, observing the regime cats that came with their commander. They didn’t look well, weak with hungry maybe? Or could they be sickly? It was hard to tell just looking but it was obvious that there was something wrong with the regime cats. Something that was taking their attention away from a bunch of missing cats.
“Commander, is theres reason your cats appear...hungry? Could that be why you over looked a bunch of your cadets missing?” Maybe they could come to an agreement I’ve these tunnels. Resources for I formation. Clearly, WinterClan was out of it’s depth being so secluded in the mountains.
"Commander Shule was not the commander anywhere near the time I was captured, that was Commander Gossamer who was in charge. Commander Shule is my great aunt and if she was in charge during that time I'm sure she would have responded faster," Cadet Zion reassured, after all most of the Regime were close family members. He was attacked by the spy Xuxa, but seeing that Commander Shule was now in charge made him feel better about Cadet Louella leaving, he trusted her. But Wintrystar was being unfair blaming Commander Shule for tunnels their ancestors built decades before any of them were born and blaming her for not acting when she wasn't commander. These were impossible things and while he knew Commander Shule could handle it herself it felt wrong to let Wintrystar make these accusations without him making her aware of the full situation so she could make her own logical assessment. For all they knew Commander Shule was just made commander yesterday and acted as fast as she could.
Being a listener more than a speaker, it was not odd for the abnormally large ginger tom to be quiet amoungst conversations. The Knight's bright amber eyes watched as each cat spoke, his mind taking in the information from each of the parties, mentally assessing the various of perspective that were thrown around.
"If I may," Lionwhisper spoke up, his deep voice rich and calm, despite the growing tensions amoungst the cats. "Winterclan takes the matter of trespassers to the utmost importance, especially ones so close to camp." He stated, the words purposeful and intense "To even venture deep into Winterclan territory is a feat. Many cats wouldn't attempt it for the same reason, so it speaks volumes when we find a cat, let alone a group of cats venturing so close to our camp..." He let the words sink for a moment before continuing "Winterclan has traditionally held prisoners for the sake of protecting the location of our camp and clan information, so the practice of keeping prisoners for moons is not uncommon. It also provides the appropriate vetting time for the God and Goddess to determine if a prisoner is worthy of receiving an offer to join our ranks or not."
Lionwhisper turned back to Wintrystar, his brows furrowed deeply as he thought further on before turning back to the Commander "The Cadets you see before you have grown in nutrition thanks to the rations they received as prisoners, but that says wonders. Prisoners are limited in their rations, much more than our clanmates yet these young cats have managed to thrive health wise in the time with us, as if to say the conditions as a prisoner were higher than those in your group." The words could have been taken as a personal attack if the Knight had not spoken them carefully and with a tone of curiosity.
Cadet Louella's tail lashed from side to side as she listened to the adults go back and forth. Why did it have to be so complicated? Literally no one died. She and the rest of the cadets really had taken a wrong turn in their search for food. Sure, it was in the tunnels, and yeah, it deposited them deep into WinterClan's territory, but she diverted to her first statement: Why in the world would a cat willingly live in a place as cold and unforgiving as this mountain range? There was a severe lack of color and fashion, it brought her mood down, made her gloomy. Perhaps that was why these cats were so hung up on the details.
"Old folks with nothing better to do tend to make up problems to fill the time." Cadet Louella said loudly to no cat in particular, "I appreciate the meals but I'm ready to go home, I would say thanks for the hospitality but it's been a little, for lack of a better term, cold."

Shule glanced at Zion. "I would have been here sooner, if I could. Once I became Commander, I made it my mission to get here as soon as possible." She stated simply, her tail twitching as the cats noticed their, ah, unfortunate state. The Commander herself, though she had presence, on second glance, didn't look quite as intimidating as one might think. Even for the end of leafbare, the Regime cats were thin, far thinner than they ought to be. She'd had some measure of hope they wouldn't notice, and soon, they'd have the prey they needed anyhow. That's why she'd ordered every capable cadet aged cat or older in the group to learn hunting or hunt an hour a day.
"As I said, the Regime doesn't necessarily know each and every tunnel that exists, just like you don't know the details of every other clans' territories, and the rogue lands in between." The Commander continued, turning back to Wintrystar and Lionwhisper, though she took a moment to fix a look on Louella that 'suggested' she quiet down. She didn't need a Cadet to try and start fights. She also didn't like these cats prying into the affairs of her group, even if she understood their curiosity.
"Our situation is improving, I have already seen to that." Shule kept her words relatively vague on the mention of the Regime's state. She didn't want them thinking that just because they didn't look in perfect health right now, that they could take advantage of the group.
Wintrystar wasn't sure she believed the commander, but she had an idea based on the Regime cat's appearances and the commander's defense. "I'll make you an offer, Commander Shule. WinterClan doesn't understand much outside of our borders as we've lived our whole lives in the mountains and are happy to do so. But the Regime has traveled far and wide. I do not know what your lands are like, but it is clear your group is suffering from a lack of food. You understand the tunnels, better than we do, and we have prey a plenty. I offer you an alliance between our two clans. Your cadets may return to you with prey to help your clan, and in return, you shall teach us about the outside world. We may use the tunnels for a means of communication and exchange between our two groups. I believe this arrangement will help each group and that we will all benefit from an alliance between us."
Her head was high as she spoke these words. Confident that the Commander would take her offer. WinterClan was sorely lacking in knowledge, especially if all other clans knew of these tunnels and they didn't. But maybe by working together, they could help each other. WinterClan wouldn't be so outcasted and hurting, and the Regime would be health and feed.
Shule watched Wintrystar closely as she spoke and made the offer. It was a relatively simple trade, and certainly, extra prey would be appreciated to more quickly bring the Regime back up to good health. However, she didn't necessarily trust the WinterClan leader, and certainly didn't want to look desperate. She considered it silently, before seeming to nod shortly to herself, decision made. At current, it would be riskier to refuse, and this would give her the much needed time and ability to raise the group up should the need ever arise one day to break away this alliance. "You seek an alliance, and if we bring you knowledge, you will share prey." She mused, reiterating the offer. "I agree."
The Commander raised a paw, palm half tilted up, not unlike a twoleg would hold their hand for a handshake, and looked at the leader with an expectant expression, meaning for the other she-cat to come and rest her pad against it. It would force Wintrystar to trust that Shule was not deceiving her as a means to attack, and be a show of good faith. "Should you need the Regime, we will be there to aid you, and should we need it, we expect the same."
"You have got to be kidding me..." Cadet Loulla said quietly, her eyes narrowing on the two leaders. Did Commander Shule seriously just offer an alliance with the Clan that had unfairly kidnapped a few of her cadets for the past moon? Cadet Louella's expression was calm, but her tail was still lashing with enough force to form a small flurry. Gossamer Alessandra would have never pulled something like this. At least, she hoped her adoptive mother wasn't so stupid as to roll over for this stupid mountain Clan and play friends. Cadet Zion had literally just done the same, though, so maybe it wasn't so much a Shule problem as it was a Regime problem.
