Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Bright, warm sunlight filtered down to the forest floor through the branches of the towering trees above, their branches no longer barren, but covered in tiny buds soon to blossom into colorful leaves and flowers. Down below on such a welcoming afternoon, a somewhat plump she-cat padded through the undergrowth, coming out the other side to enter the large clearing that made up Summerclan's camp. It had only been two short weeks since the former kittypet had begged to join Summerclan, and changing from bored little Missy to Largelight, a proud clan warrior. Well, she'd be prouder if she could figure out where she was going half of the time. After getting stranded at the far border a few days earlier, she was hesitant to stray far from the Deep Lands at all. Nevertheless, she tried her best and took her new duties in stride.
Living in a clan was in ways both similar to, and different than what he had imagined. It was nice that all cats, young and old, were able to help the clan in some way. Making the clan thrive was a group effort, and no cat seemed to feel useless or was left without something to do. But on the other paw...Largelight's pace slowed as he set down his catch, a small robin, down on the fresh-kill pile.
Her soft gaze swept over the various clanmates around him, and noticing how most of them were already gather in groups of their own; families or friends, who have known each other for seasons, sharing time together. Shuffling her paws awkwardly, she grabbed a small mouse for lunch and sat down to eat. Being such a close community here, she hadn't really gotten to know any other Summerclan warriors yet. She had lived alone for so long...she had no idea how to approach other cats, no matter how desperately she wanted a friend.

Pantherclaw was in good spirits mainly because of the warmer weather. Was Leafbare going to end soon? She sure hoped so. This had been a long hard winter and the big flood didn't help things either. At least all that was behind them now. She had been on the morning hunting patrol and brought in a fine catch, a robin, a squirrel, and a mouse. Now after having rested she was hungry. So choosing a small vole from the pile, she looked around for someone to eat it with. She was going to join her uncle, Dustfeather, until she spotted the new cat, what was her name... Largelight? She sitting all by herself. And being the friendly cat she was, Pantherclaw changed her direction and headed over to get acquainted with her. "Hi!" she meowed. "Mind if I eat my vole with you?"
"Huh?!" Largelight hadn't noticed the other she-cat approach at all, nearly jumping out of her fur at the unexpected voice. But she forced herself to relax when she noticed the friendly, albeit somewhat-worried looking she-cat staring down at her. There was a moment of somewhat awkward silence as she blinked, not having completely caught what...Panther...it was definitely Panthersomething...had said to her. Then she finally spotted the vole hanging from her clanmate's jaws, and it all clicked. "Oh! Of course you can sit with me!" Largelight chirped, still sounding a bit nervous as she scooted over to make room.

Pantherclaw looked relieved as she sat down near Largelight. She had sensed the awkwardness that appeared right after she had spoken but now it seemed to be dissipating even if just a little. Dropping her vole on the ground, she meowed, "By the way, I'm Pantherclaw. We've never really met other than just passing by each other in the camp. So how do you like it here?" There was a hopeful look in her eyes that the new cat would respond in the affirmative.
Pantherclaw. The she-cat let out a breath she didn't even realize she had been holding, feeling a slight bit of pride at managing to at least remember half of her clanmate's name. Warrior names were so unusual to her; it had taken nearly a week after Ratstar had picked her own name to train herself to react to being called Largelight and not Missy. "I'm Largelight," she introduced in a soft voice, still somewhat unsure, but feeling much more at ease beside the other she-cat. However, at Pantherclaw's question her green eyes lit up passionately. "I love it here, it's so different than living with my old twolegs. Every single day there's something new to see and do. And the territory's so pretty with all the blooming flowers..."

"It's the best territory in all the clans," Pantherclaw said proudly. "We've got everything, mountains and fields and streams and a lake and even just recently we discovered the ocean is very close." She took a bite of her vole and swallowed it. "I'm glad you like it here." She had wondered how a former kittypet would like it without her twolegs to feed and shelter her. The thought of being so close to twolegs gave the black cat a shiver. She was about to ask Largelight how she could even stand it but decided to rephrase her question. "Can I ask why you left? Most kittypets I've heard of wouldn't even think of leaving their soft lives."
Largelight giggled softly at the thought. "Oh, a lot of them wouldn't last a day out here," she admitted, smiling at the nostalgia. "It's a comfortable life, to be honest. Twolegs really aren't all that bad, you know. My owners took good care of me. They were very kind, and I was never cold, hungry, or in want of anything. But..." The she-cat's smile faded slightly. "That was just it. Every single day it was the same thing; wake up, eat, wander around, nap. Day after day, it was always the same routine. It drove me crazy, that was never anything new to experience. It made me wonder if this 'soft life' of mine was all I was good for, and if I would die one day with absolutely nothing to show for it. As much as I loved my home and my twolegs, I couldn't stay."

Largelight's answer wasn't what Pantherclaw had expected. She thought her twolegs might have been mean to her and she ran away. The notion that twolegs who were kind was foreign to her thinking. She figured they were all strange, not necessarily outright mean, and that for some reason unknown to her they liked to have cats around. "I didn't know that any twolegs were kind," she meowed. "I thought they all were just weird. I'm glad they weren't mean to you." The fact she left because she wanted more to life impressed Pantherclaw. "I'm glad you came here and I hope you find a more fulfilling life with us than with any twolegs."
"Oh they're definitely weird, Largelight conceded with a burst of laughter. "But there are very few mean or malicious twolegs, in my opinion. You probably only ever hear about mean ones here in Summerclan because that's one of the only reasons many kittypets would choose to leave. All of the ones I've ever met were kind and friendly. Actually, if I'm being honest..." she leaned in close to Pantherclaw's ear, as if whispering a secret. "I think the reason twolegs like us cats so much it because of our fur." Giggling, she pulled back again with a more genuine smile; her initial nervousness around the other she-cat completely gone, with her full cheerful and bubbly personality on display. "I'm really happy to be a member of Summerclan. I'm going to work hard and become a real, brave warrior!"

Pantherclaw was very pleased to see Largelight warm up to her and it made her feel pretty good. "I'm sure you'll become just that especially with your positive attitude." Then deciding to steer the conversation in that direction she asked, "So how's your training going for you? I often wondered what it would be like to learn apprentice type stuff after you're older." She wasn't even sure how it was done. Were warriors assigned to new members to train them like mentors did for apprentices? She knew younger cats when they were taken into the clan were giving mentors but what about adult cats?
"Well, I think I've finally got the territory and navigating down," Largelight admitted, looking down at her paws almost sheepishly. She didn't feel like mentioning how often she had gotten lost and needed someone to help her during her first moon in Summerclan. Though once she memorized different landmarks, like the types of flowers that grew in different sections of the wildflower field, it became far easier. "Hunting has come hard to me though, but I've caught a couple of birds lately. Oh, and don't get me started on fighting!"

The black she cat's ears twitched back and forth. "Sounds like there might be a good story coming," she meowed hopefully. "That is if you want to talk about it." Pantherclaw hadn't heard too much interesting lately, not since a moon ago when her brother told her about his misadventure in gathering herbs.
"I was unfortunate enough to be on one of the border patrols when Fallclan tried to take the tree-line," Largelight began, wrapping her tail around herself self-consciously. "I'm not good with confrontation. I don't like it when cats argue or fight; I'm a bit of a coward. Back with my twolegs, even the nesting birds would push me around. In any case, I didn't really want to approach the Fallclan patrol, and this tom Dustfeather got snappy with me about it." She pouted a bit, rolling her eyes at the memory. "But then immediately after that, he tells me that he'd help me out if a brawl broke out! Seriously, what's with that guy?"

Pantherclaw nodded. "That sounds just like my uncle Dustfeather," she meowed. "He thinks he's the toughest cat that ever lived in SummerClan and he desires that everyone else live up to his expectations. But if he's anything, he's loyal. He may criticize you for being weak but StarClan help the one who might attack you. He would be there right by your side defending you." She had never really analyzed her uncle before. She had just taken him as he was. A smile lit her face as she realized she had finally put to words what she had inherently known. Despite his fierce nature, she really loved him.
Largelight slowly blinked as her mind finally caught up with what Pantherclaw was saying, and her jaw dropped in surprise. "Wait...that stick in the mud is your uncle?!" She squeaked, unable to fathom how this kind and welcoming she-cat in front of her could be related to the grumpy grouch she had dealt with earlier. "Geez, didn't see that coming...but I guess you have a point." Her eyes glanced thoughtfully over towards the warriors' den, where she had spotted Dustfeather last. "He's very prideful, but seems incredibly dedicated too. I just wish he'd be a bit more tactful with his constructive criticism."

Pantherclaw's eyes lit with amusement. "He's my mother's brother. See that gray tabby over there? That's her, Gentlebreeze. And the elder sitting outside the den is their father, Bonefang, my grandfather." Gentlebreeze was grooming herself with some other cats across the camp while Bonefang was taking a nap in the sunshine. "But you're right, Dustfeather could be a little kinder when he speaks. You know what I think?" The black she cat looked around to make sure no one was listening to their conversation. "He never had a mate. I think that if he had she would have helped to soften him up, you know, take off his sharp edges."
"Wow, you have a lot of family here!" Largelight's gaze flickered between each cat that Pantherclaw pointed out in camp. She only sort-of recognized Gentlebreeze as one of the older warriors who stayed around camp a lot. She smiled a bit upon seeing Bonefang; he was a nice old tom, she always saw him happily entertaining the kits and younger apprentices. Though she couldn't say that she had interacted with either of them much. Lost in her own thoughts, her ear twitched in surprise at Pantherclaw's cheeky assessment of her uncle, and the former kittypet let out a snort of laughter. "Geez, Pantherclaw! He'd rake your ears if he ever heard you say that!"

"You're right about that," the black she cat laughed. "So let's not let him know about it." She cast a glance around to make sure her uncle wasn't anywhere close just in case.
Just then Graythorn emerged from his den carrying herbs in his mouth. Apparently he was on his way to the elders den. "Oh yeah," Pantherclaw meowed upon seeing him. "He's my littermate, not that you can tell in both looks and personality." She paused then added, "You are right. I do have a lot of family here. I never really thought about it before. Ashensnow is a distant cousin and her son is Ravenmask making him a cousin as well." She looked about the camp. "That's it I think. Oh wait! I have family in other clans too! I had a great uncle, Bonefang's brother Swiftlightning, who left SummerClan to live in WaterClan. Now WaterClan is no more and its members scattered and went to other clans to live. Swiftlightning had lots of kits and grandkits. I actually have more relatives living outside SummerClan than within."
Largelight watched Graythorn pass by, staring after him for a moment before looking back to Pantherclaw. "You're right, I totally wouldn't have guessed," she admitted, listening attentively as the other she-cat described her family. "It must be nice," she finally remarked, her voice soft with awe. "To have so much family here. I don't even remember my parents at all. Usually twolegs take a kit from their mother as soon as they're weaned, and give them to a new twoleg family to raise as their own. Sometimes there will be cats already living in the twoleg den, and I guess they treat each other as siblings of a sort, but I don't know if it's really the same." She trailed off, a flash of muted sadness crossing her face for a brief moment. But she quickly shook it away as a new question came to mind. "Lightningswift? Did he have anything to do with Swiftclan? Maybe I'm just being silly, but I haven't heard many warrior names with 'swift' in them."

(Oops! Sorry. I guess I'll blame it on a senior moment >.<)
Pantherclaw was aghast when Largelight told her about the way twolegs were with kits and their mothers. "No, I don't think Lightingswift had anything to do with SwiftClan. I think he was in StarClan long before that clan was formed. But back to what you just told me," she continued. "I never knew any creature could be that heartless!" Her eyes were wide as she spoke. "To think that twolegs routinely separate queens from their kits is just plain awful! It's a wonder that cats could ever tolerate them at all!" She glanced over at her own mother and thanked StarClan she wasn't born a kittypet. Suddenly she felt sorry for all the kittypets who had suffered through such a loss. "It must have been a terrible time for you. I'm so sorry."
