Another day, another hunt. At this point, Shule was surprised Gossamer had even kept the ranks. Of course, the Superior would most definitely not be the one to suggest getting rid of them and would protest that idea quite heavily.
She stepped out into the snowy landscape, choosing to take her chances above ground today. If there were things she appreciated about Foxbane capturing her to get at her kits, it was the little things she understood now that she hadn't before. Hunting, basic treatment of injury, building rapport with outsiders, even the outside world as a whole. The dark furred feline never thought she'd like sunlight, but strangely, she enjoyed the weak warmth that cut through the frigid air as her eyes got used to it all.
There were some traps she'd set the night before. She wasn't sure if they'd even work, but best to start there, right?
Standing only a short distance from the border was a dazzling diamond white bengal she-cat. She looked like a white tigress, rare and dangerous with smoky silhouette stripes gliding across her fur like streaks of stormy clouds. She had a French accent, but it wasn't her voice that stood out, but her crystalline angelic blue eyes. They matched Shule's, but with a softer sky blue shade. She was the second, lesser known litter of Kotori's. She was raised by Cyra for a time before being passed onto Fuzzyheart and Peachblush with the rest of her litter. Even they for sometime hadn't let Kotori know of her existence. In that sense, it made her purer, or should have, after all Emiko shouldn't have been as influenced by Kotori as she had, yet she was. But here she resembled Cyra more, sleek, held herself with a lady like appeal, with a sort of indescribable richness to her aura.
"My name is Lelia, I heard you're the stable one of the family and thought before I get too old I should take some pointers from you. I'm Kotori and Cyra's daughter."

Shule really hadn't met most of Kotori's kits. She knew they existed, and, of course, she'd raised Emiko. She didn't know if her son had had any more kits, really. Her head swung around at the voice, gaze locking on the bengal who had her eyes, though the color was a darker than her own. In a lot of ways, and especially since Emiko had betrayed the Regime, she sort of wished they didn't exist. She didn't talk about them anymore. If they were brought up, it wasn't of her own accord, the majority of the time, and she said little more than necessary.
At the end of they day, she still loved the both of them, Kotori and Zakiyyah. But she couldn't justify treating them like family, really. It hurt her heart to admit, yet, she had no idea what she was 'supposed' to do. Some suggested she should be out hunting her son. Others, mainly those within the Eerie family, seemed more inclined to think that they were still her family, and that took precedence over everything else.
She wasn't surprised by Lelia's confession, but the Superior also didn't run to give the she-cat a hug, or even a smile. Rather, she looked more tired, though maybe that could be attributed to being overworked and underfed. "That's not something you are wise to be admitting to. My son, and your sister Emiko, have caused a lot of suffering and death here." The feline sighed softly, unable to help herself as she scrutinized the she-cat. After all, even if she was uncertain how to feel, this was still her grandchild, and she couldn't keep herself from being curious.
"On the contrary the Regime is in poor health, if there is anytime to admit truths without consequence it is when the government is too weak to enforce action. I don't mean to pry, I just happen to notice that there is suitable amount of prey and a loss in ground beetles, they like to roam around pine trees such as the ones you have. If they're getting picked off that much it means the prey must be a bit more bold at hunting, maybe because they're not being hunted? Being that it is winter I would guess sickness, but I would be wrong. Any who, I have reason to believe that this is the prime time to be meeting with you and possibly the last chance I'll have. As to the concern of Kotori and Emiko, in the nicest courtesy I can possibly give you I will say I have the charisma of my mother, but the weak backbone of my father. I am not dangerous in the way that they are."
Her voice was slow, it took its time to radiantly capture every sound. It was like a low seductive growl, it wasn't smooth, but the sharp edges of her tone could catch onto a cats emotions freeing more than what someone wanted to show. it was almost familiar to Vera's.
Was it really that obvious? Well, probably. Shule had been taking the least prey she could, so she was visibly thinner than was even normal for leafbare. First they leave their home for a week from the flood, then they don't have the cats to properly hunt. At least she assumed sickness over hunger, not that the wrong guess meant much. It did concern her that anyone would have paid such close attention that they'd notice beetles and realize something was wrong simply from that, but she'd heard of stranger things, so even if she was skeptical, she didn't suppose she could argue. Her expression remained guarded, and she narrowed her eyes ever so slightly at her insistence of being weak.
"Considering that neither Kotori nor Emiko appeared the types to be capable of what they were, I hope you'll excuse me for not putting any stock in that claim." She answered, unable to hide the note of bitterness in her tone. Even if one was a grandchild, she'd raised two serial killers, technically, and she had made the exact same mistake twice. She wouldn't be so naive as to make it a third time. "Why did you come to see me? I highly doubt this would be your last chance, unless there's any particular reason you know of I should be fearing for my life, considering you look healthy enough?"
"Oh no, nothing of the sort, I have joined NightClan by my fathers demand and Flamingstar prefers to have me in her sights. That and my father informed her of my disloyal habits so if she notices me gone she'll inform him and I don't know what he'll do."
For what felt like the longest time this conversation had lasted only now did she appear to struggle to talk, like she couldn't ask what she needed to, "I came here for girl advice," She said before furrowing her brows knowing that wasn't true, "Or more accurately I'm seeking some motherly advice," She seemed a bit more defensive now that she admitted it, feeling Shule would judge her immediately for asking, but she didn't have much of a choice. It wasn't like she could ask her mom, "I wasn't really raised to have a good moral palette or whatever. But it doesn't mean I have to fall into this downward spiral that my fathers putting me in by having me assist the ex Shadow Era leader. I get that you struck out a few times, but I came to you because you tried to raise my dad and my sister. No one has ever tried to push me to be a better person. I'm looking for advice, like, am I a bad person for assisting Flamingstar and if I don't listen to my dad does that make me a bad daughter?"

Okay. Full stop. "Kotori is threatening you?" Shule instantly turned into 'mother' mode at that, all pretense of distance gone. No, she didn't trust this she-cat one bit. She also didn't think Lelia was lying. And that meant she was going to have words with her son. He could play the 'I'm a League cat you can't boss me around anymore' angle all he wanted, but there was no way he was getting out of that lecture. "No, you're not a bad daughter for not doing something just because Kotori told you to. I'll be having a.. talk, with your father over this, and rest assured, no matter what you choose, he won't be laying a paw on you, I guarantee it. I can't say whether it's wrong or not to be assisting Flamingstar, but it certainly doesn't make you a bad cat, especially if you're being pushed into it. I wouldn't recommend getting caught up with the NightClan leader, though. There is no good that can come of it, and lots of pain that will happen, regardless of the moralities."
"I agree, but at the same time if I left NightClan I would just go back to the cottage and be alone again, at least I'm actually wanted unlike in DayClan. Plus Flamingstar hates DayClan just like I do so at least we have that much in common. Even if we're both competing for dads attention," Lelia marveled, "I guess I just came to vent and you're busy. Could I maybe come back and see you at a better time?" She could see Shule's discomfort.
(So I talked to Spot. And I'm thinking we fas forward time a little where Lelia/ Tigerlily comes back another night and this time Kotori, Flamingstar, and Creampuff have followed her to see if she really is betraying them and then come out to confront her. They only see she's talking to an RR cat, but only when they approach they realize it's Shule. If you're interested you can just reply with Shule waiting around and I'll have Lelia approach)

"A relationship built on common hatred and competition often isn't the best or most stable relationship, Lelia." Shule warned. "If you want to go, then sure. Just let me know when you want to meet again." She didn't really want to break it off, now that she was concerned for the feline, but she wasn't going to push it either.
Some time later.
Shule had organized to meet near the border, as close as their borders could get to the Forest Clans, which didn't really mean much, to be honest. But it was late, all the same, more like the schedule Lelia would understand, living in NightClan. They'd agreed to meet here, and she should be arriving soon. She'd, naturally, mentioned it to Sean, including her own skepticism, telling him where she'd be, but telling him not to worry about coming to check on her unless she was gone past dawn.
Lelia walked into view, just as striking as ever, "Should I stay at the border?" Lelia asked standing firmly in place in front of Renegade's border, but politely waiting for an invitation before considering stepping onto their lands again. The first time she had invaded purely to find Shule because she didn't think she would be able to find her in any other way.
In the background she was being followed, but given Kotori's background in spying he knew the appropriate distance to keep himself from being caught. That and Flamingstar and Creampuff were with him and they didn't exactly have fur types that could blend in well at night. At least all he had to do was stay small and duck down the left half of his face. He narrowed his eyes trying to make other the figure in the distance, they probably had dark fur, but at night, screw it, the person could have brown fur for all he knew. One thing was for sure, Lelia definitely did leave NightClan to talk to someone, but he didn't want to leave before knowing what it was that she was talking about. He could wait for Lelia to finish up talking, but if he did she could just lie to his face. He wanted to catch her in a lie and to do that he needed to know the truth.
"We need to somehow get closer to hear without being seen, any ideas?" He asked, looking at the two she-cats. Creampuff put on her thinking face which meant she had no idea so that was great.
The Nightclan leader followed Creampuff and Kotori to the spot where Tigerlilly was to meet with another cat. After reaching their position, Flamingstar crouched, watching Tigerlilly approach the border to the renegade regime. Her ear twitched when Creampuff spoke up. "We could roll in mud" Flamingstar suggested in a hushed voice. The mud would help hide their bright fur and mask their scent.
"May as well join me on this side of it." Shule offered, her tail twitching the invitation to sit by her without much hesitation. She expected, if necessary, she could fight Lelia, though she doubted that would be needed. Indeed, it was hard to make her out in the night, even with the snow reflecting back some light in the darkness. Her fur was ebony dark, with four pure white paws lost to the snow itself. Other than the general outline of her shape, to anyone that wasn't Lelia, she likely appeared more a shadow than an actual feline.
Lelia padded over and joined Shule's side, "How have you been?" She asked politely, deciding not to dive right into her troubles, but rather concern herself with formalities first. Anything else felt improper to say.
Kotori stared at the dirt in disgust, "Ye-"
He was about to disagree when Creampuff let out a hush squeal and tackled Kotori with her into the mud. His entire face crumpled as he kept from yelping or snapping or MURDERING Creampuff for tackling him into the mud. He stood up disgusted and dragged his paws down across his eyes, but was careful to avoid his face. After all it was probably for the best that the white half of his face remained covered. With his tail he signaled for the two cats to follow him as he crept up closer to Shule and Lelia. He made sure to stay down wind from the hill, but close enough to listen when the wind carried their voices. Unfortunately that still made it hard to detect with certainty who Lelia was talking to. In his mind he raced through what he would do if she betrayed him. If it were any of his other kits things would be different, but Lelia was constantly a liar, but this time she promised to him she wouldn't, she had already endless betrayed him this would have to be the last straw if she tried something again. Maybe making her a kittypet for a year would teach her. Or making her do trainee chores around the league. Something to cut down on her ego at least.

"Good enough, considering." Shule answered, offering a slight shrug of her shoulders. She was thinner than she ought to be, given the lack of Scouts, but otherwise fine. Life was chaos, as always. But she had her mate, she had Kaisra and Dusky, and the cute kits her daughter was raising. Among other things, of course. "What about you? You're okay?" Though she hardly knew her granddaughter, and couldn't claim to fully trust the feline, her gaze still roamed over Lelia's fur with a flicker of concern, as though she expected to see gashes and bruises. And if she did, well, it was sort of well known how Shule reacted to her relatives being hurt in any way, shape, or form, if Funk E'tan and Foxbane were anything to go by, at least.
Lelia let out a gentle sigh, that sounded cold and light like wind brushing through snow, but offered an uncertain shy smile, "Yeah. I actually really like Flamingstar and-" Her claw curled around her own fur before releasing it, "I hadn't expected to. It was nice," She blushed, but continued, "Nothing is really the matter, I just don't like how controlling my dad can be. He always thinks I'm more like mom, that I'm not capable and need to be controlled. I didn't get to choose if I want to be Flamingstar's servant he just already knew I would be one, but then maybe he does know best because I do like it in NightClan."
Even in the pale moonlight she looked beautiful, Goddess like. Like she should be confident and in tune with who she was, but walking next to Shule in this moment she looked helpless and vulnerable in all the ways Kotori saw her and made her. This was why Lelia came, when she saw Shule she saw all the things she wanted to be. Strong, swift in judgment, and most of all the confidence to not care what anyone else thought.
Kotori listened the best he could, but seemed pleased with himself upon hearing that she enjoyed being with Flamingstar. However the truth settled inside of him that she could be lying. Lelia was good at lying because she believed the part, she looked deep within herself and in that moment believed everything she said until that moment was over. It was why no one could detect her deceit, she had no tell unless she was correctly called out. The rest was hard to hear, but he could make out the part of him not believing in her and it was true, he didn't.

"I often wonder if Kotori feel that way because he doesn't believe in himself." Shule commented briefly, "He always did seem to want to compare himself to Zakiyyah, and no matter how much I knew what he was capable of, he never seemed to think it was enough. Anyway, I guess that's enough reminiscing. Just because Kotori happened to push you into something you ended up enjoying, for however long that feeling lasts, doesn't make it right of him to do. There are times when you should give your kits a push, but threatening them to get them to serve someone isn't it. At some point, your kits have to grow up, and you have to let them carve out their own path, for better or worse. He should be giving you that chance, not forcing you to follow the path of his choosing." Her voice was clear and concise, but gentle in a caring way that was reserved for those she was closest to. "I'm glad you're enjoying NightClan though, no matter the reasoning of why you're there. If you ever choose to leave, I'm sure we could think about finding you a place here, in the Regime."
She nodded along, she had a genuinely pretty smile, it was the modest kind that was kept polite and fitted in a small shy shape along each corner of her lip. Most Eerie's had a wild happy smile, one that was genuine and would come out easily, but hers felt more reserved and used to communicate socially rather than to actually feel. "I've never known that about my dad and aunt Zakiyyah, they always seemed to get along so well," Lelia said, filing it away in her memory to add to the rest of her ammo of knowledge. Speaking with Shule felt rewarding, like she was talking to an idolized celebrity and in that sense she was. Her dad spoke highly of grand Shule, but very rarely of her. The care Shule put into each word was thought out and precise, there was a certainty in everything she said and when she spoke she could feel it as though her opinion suddenly birthed into fact. There was an authority and confidence to her that Lelia craved to be around.
"If you ever choose to leave, I'm sure we could think about finding you a place here, in the Regime."
The moment shattered, "I shouldn't," Lelia said quickly as the wind around them raised as though her mood were a tangible thing, but like her composure the wind relaxed once more, "I am not vicious the way my family is, but I am dangerous in my own way. I enjoy you grand Shule, but I was warned to never meet with you or-"
Kotori's ears pricked up at the mention of Shule, his heart darkening rather than burning like he could feel the life being sucked out of him at her very name. He couldn't remember when he started moving, but when he did it was like the winds were roaring with him until he pounced the last step to the top of the hill. The clear white half of his face shined bright even in the pitch black darkness of the night, "Lelia," Her named harsh and cold off of his tongue as he slowly walked towards them or more specifically his daughter, "I told you to never come here, go back to the league." He didn't miss a beat, he didn't want to deal with her in NightClan even if it was closer because however he needed to deal with her could only be done in Primal Instinct.

"How dare you, Kotori." Shule's voice dropped into a tone that she had never, never once used towards her son. It was real, actual anger, and it was much, much colder than the most frigid nights he could even imagine. In an instant, she was standing directly in front of Lelia, staring down the League tom without an ounce of hesitation. It was almost like they were strangers, from the look she gave him, and it held there, for an impossibly long moment before something in her crystalline gaze cracked, and the anger fell away with a deep, intentional breath. The rage flaked away and once again, it was like they were parent and child, her expression bearing deep disappointment in such a way as one could only express to their kits. "Sit down. No one is going anywhere, and you know better than to interrupt a conversation."
It wasn't a request. And Shule wasn't simply about to let him walk off. She had questions, and she would get her answers.
The green color in his eyes melted to copper red, his own paw slamming down onto the earth in front of Shule with such force it left his arm trembling, "Don't YOU dare," His voice seemed to echo across the silent night as his paw slid across the ground in a harsh line, "You think you can see the good in your families hearts, but you can't. You see love and confuse it for innocence, you trusted me and I killed my family. We trusted Emiko and she followed in my paw steps. Someday I always hoped you would look at Sean and see he's an angel from hell and when you came back home to your kits missing you saw him for what he always was, a coward, too afraid to be strong. It runs in our blood, not yours, but Lelia carries the same tainted heart and I know you'll look at her eyes and see yourself, but she's just as worse as the rest of us," His voice was fast, panic flaring in his eyes and the more the flame fanned the more his coppery gaze dissolved back down to green.
Lelia had at first started to obediently return to Kotori's side, but had stopped altogether when Shule had moved in front of her. Shame coated her eyes the more Kotori went on, tears shining easily in her eyes as she quickly brushed them away hating how easy it was to make her tear up, her dad wasn't wrong though. At least she didn't believe he was, from a young age he made sure to teach her that they were the darker side of the family with sinful explosive habits.

"And so what if she is, so what if you are?" Shule countered in an instant. The anger had left, but the force in her tone had remained in it's absence. She didn't miss the copper red of his eyes, but she didn't back down, and her gaze didn't betray the slightest hint of surprise or shock, though she knew she needed to tell Sean about this. The only cats she'd heard of with the same trait were Green's birth kits, those who were rumored to be demons or close enough to it. But this was the first time any of Sean's kits had displayed such a thing. That could be addressed later, though, far more of her was focused on answering Kotori. "My trust can be given, broken, and won again slowly with care, but my love is unconditional. I don't care what blood runs through your veins, or the veins of any of my children and grandchildren, whether they are mine by blood, or belong to Sean's line, or anyone else's for that matter. I will not cast out Lelia without first giving her the chance to know me, just because of something as simple as blood, I will not stop loving her, and you will not interfere in the relationships that any of your children may wish to have with me. They may be your kits, Kotori, but they are not yours to control, they are people, not pawns."
