Swallowbelly was notorious for chasing his namesake as far as he could. Many times now he's accidentally crossed the border, but managed to catch himself before he went too far. Even now he was following the swallows, uncaring of where it took him. His grassy eyes don't look away. His paws led him on. This tawny furred cat has run into many trees, bushes, and fallen into holes on his many runs chasing the swallows. Currently, he was crossing in SummerClan territory, unaware and uncaring as he followed with glee the bird he was named for.

Maizepaw was on her very own patrol thank you very much. Granted, it wasn't exactly with permission. But it counted, surely. The young cat padded happily through her territory, tail swishing with joy. Maizepaw was happy, well-adjusted, and loving her easy and simple life. So she most certainly was not looking for a mysterious tom to race past her in pursuit of a bird. Maizepaw paused for a moment, shocked, and then shook her head to clear it and gave chased. "Hello! Stop! You're chasing SummerClan prey!" The light faun she-cat bounded behind the other cat, trying to sound authoritative and older than she was.
Prey? This wasn't prey, this was his namesake. A bird he'd never hunt, just chase. Glancing ack at the cat who called out to him, he grinned. "It's just a chase! You're welcome to join!" Then he raced off, uncaring that he'd essentially been caught in his little game. Swallowbelly had been punished plenty of times for the same thing, he was sure that his dear leader would just shake his head again and send him on his way, tired of this same conversation time and again. Thinking about, he'd never had anyone join him in his chase. Just chased him, tackled him, and sent him home. Maybe it'd be fun if this cat joined in instead of the other option.

Maizepaw was shocked by the response, slowing down for a moment as his words sunk in. Who wanted to chase a bird with no intention of hunting it? He managed to get a bit ahead of her before she sped off again, paws thumping against the still frosty ground as she tried to catch back up. But as the seconds slipped by it became less about the chase of the intruder and more about the running. Maizepaw loved to run and play, she wasn't an elder yet after all. The intrusion of the strange cat was all but forgotten as she managed to catch up with him, bird still fluttering away ahead of them.
Swallowbelly grinned when he saw the she-cat catching up, then laughed when she did. "Joining in?' The bird swerved to the left, the movement caught in the corner of his eye. The tom did the same, nearly running headfirst through a brush of leaves on a young tree. Wind coursing through his fur, eyes locked on the bird above, and paws giving chase. He waited until she was close again before calling out, "it's a swallow! You can tell by its tail feathers."

Maizepaw didn't respond to the question, too busy watching the bird. She missed the bird as it swerved but met up with Swallowbelly on the other side of the tree, bird still a bit ahead of them. "Why not catch it?" She huffed, breathing hard as she pushed her endurance trying to keep up with the intruder and their not-prey. "Birds are for eating," she managed, as though reminding the tom of this fact.
"Do they have to be?" Swallowbelly eyed the girl beside him, curious why she chose to run with him instead of after him as so many others had before her. It was interesting, and gods did he love interesting. Swerving around another bush, and nearly tripping over his own paws, he continued his chase. "What's so fun about catching something that leads you to new places!"

"I mean," she argued, narrowly dodging a patch of brambles that promised to shred her, "it's leading you into enemy territory though." The small cat had to focus more on running now, her stamina was ebbing and she was pushing herself to keep up. How was this tom able to do this? He'd been running longer than she and showed no signs of stopping.
Swallowbelly grinned, "you're leading? My dear, the swallow is leading us. We're just following it. Blame it on the bird!" With that and a laugh to trail him, the tom shot off to catch up to the bird. Soon they'd lose it in the trees but he'd follow until then. Maybe..maybe the pretty she-cat would keep following too.
Then, they lost him. The bird was gone. Lost in the thorough of the trees and hidden from view. Panting, but grinning like an apprentice catching their first prey, Swallowbelly searched the trees above him for his namesake. "Dang, lost him again."

Maizepaw was ready to fall over, her sides heaved and her paws screamed from pebbles she'd ran over on the way. Honestly, the swallow disappearing had to be a blessing straight from StarClan. The she-cat slowed and then practically fell over, all decorum lost as she tried to calm her breathing. This tom could have attacked her and she wouldn't even have the breath to hiss at him. "You... do... this.... a lot?" She meowed between deep breaths.
"Every time I spot a swallow!" The tom spoke with pride as he eyed the exhausted she-cat before him. Man, this clan was out of shape. How did they get anything done if they were so out of shape? Not his problem, SpringClan was strong and that was all that mattered to him. Swallowbelly grinned as he settled down next to her, eyes observing the area around him in wonder. "So...where are we?" To be honest, he didn't even know what clan he was in.

Maizepaw looked at him like he was insane, "every time? Swallows are pretty common birds! You must run a lot." Her breathing was going back to normal and she no longer felt like death was imminent. "We're in SummerClan, towards the center of our territory actually," she responded nonchalantly, before realizing again that this cat wasn't allowed to be here. "And," she added, "you ought to be getting back home now."
"You gonna walk me out?" One eyebrow raised and a grin to go with, the tom questioning the apprentice. Swallowbelly let out a belly laugh, "we can walk this time. I won't run, not even if I spot another sparrow." His eyes traveled around the area, taking in SummerClan's landscape and beauty. "It's pretty warm here, definitely not as humid as SpringClan!"

"Ugh," Maizepaw groaned, flopping back over, "I'm not moving for awhile. Just don't go running off, okay? Not all SummerClan warriors are this easy going." She rolled and looked at the tom as he spoke, curious, "what's SpringClan like? Other than humid."
"Well...it's always spring?" Swallowbelly wasn't sure how to describe the clan that he called home. To him, it was home and just...was. Laying down beside her on his back, gazing up at the moving leaves in the trees above. "Well, it rains a lot. And there's a lot of flowers."

"Sounds beautiful," Maizepaw answered, rolling on her back just like him, their ears tips were touching now, "SummerClan is hot, and we don't really have flowers all the time. But it's very green here. And even leafbare isn't unbearable, like WinterClan's must be. I heard it's cold there even in greenleaf."
"Haven't run in there yet. Birds don't tend to like the cold I guess." With a shrug of his shoulders, he rolled towards the she-cat. Now facing her, Swallowbelly asked, "do you like it here?" It wasn't something he'd had the chance to ask any cat yet, mostly because they were more worried about running him out of their territory than to stop and talk. But he was curious.

"I don't hate it," she meowed, bluntly. "But am I in love with and in awe of SummerClan? No. I just always feel like there's something else out there, you know?" Maizepaw shrugged her own question off, "but I'll still always be loyal. I'm SummerClan through and through. I bet lots of apprentices feel restless sometimes. When I'm a warrior I'll be happy here."
