Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Heading back up the mountain aways, they found a small cave. It was short but wide and would be cozy for two to three cats. Pineflurry had used it many times before as it was a good spot to lay down and relax while watching the storm brew and rage outside. From here, even he could hear the howling of the winds, and the cave echoed the rains when they came. It was his little sanctuary away from home, a place where he could just relax and not be babied for he's lack of hearing. "This is it. Small, but it'll work."

Frostfire had followed dutifully, eyes almost constantly being cast up to gauge the severity of the storm. And it was definitely promising to be severe, he had a moment of worry for the any other cats trapped out here. The clan was trained to learn where to take shelter and how to stay safe, he only hoped everyone was mindful in this awful snow. The cave was indeed small but that meant they'd stay nice and warm. He shook snow from his fur before sliding in, trying not to track a bunch of flakes in with him. The wind died away in his ears and the almost eerie silence was slightly unnerving in itself.
(this is my second thread where a couple gets stuck in a small cave together, this is apparently a favorite trope of mine)
After shaking his own fur clean, Pineflurry padded into the cave. Shoved further back in the small cave, he'd stored moss and other bedding material that he'd left here over the moons. He'd restocked it after his last snowed-in night with Chestnutpaw. It'd helped to keep them warm and comfy through the night. Nothing to eat, but at least they'd be comfy. Pulling bedding forward for himself, Pineflurry started on making himself a bed near the entrance to the cave to watch the storm.

"You're going to be sleeping awfully close to the entrance," Frostfire noted, "you may end up freezing." He grabbed his own moss and began making his nest closer to the wall, the cold stone would hopefully trap their heat soon enough, even through his thick fur he was cold now. And the storm's wind howled through the air in a way that told him it might yet get even colder.
"So be it. It's worth it to be able to watch the storm brewing." Pineflurry looked back to where the tom was setting up his nest, and thought about moving his back as well to the space beside Frostfire. But his gaze was drawn back towards the storm that was picking up outside and the lovely patterns it was creating. He was torn between the warmth of the tom and the beauty of the storm outside.

Frostfire looked surprised, as though the thought of watching the storm had never occurred to him. For a few moments he did nothing and then, almost shyly, he stood and started to drag his newly made nest across the floor of the small cave. Once beside Pineflurry he circled the moss and settled down, his fur brushing Pineflurry's as he too looked out into the storm.
Pineflurry was a little surprised to feel the warmth of another cat beside him. He was sure that Frostfire would stay in the back of the cave where it was warm and dry. Here at the entrance, they'd get cold and some snow on them. But...the beauty of the storm drew him in each and every time and kept him coming back time and again. It was amazing watching the storm brew, destroy, and blow through. An element of the gods that shifted the snows and the trees, scared off the prey, and caused the cats to take shelter. It was a method of destruction..but also of beauty. How it came to be, the darkness of the sky and the light coloring of the snowflakes. The greens of the evergreen trees and the mountain going quiet as all life seeks shelter in warm dens.
A part of Pineflurry wondered if the tom would see the beauty too...or if he'd be like everyone else and miss it.

"Worth it," he whispered as the storm raged. It was a bad one, they were lucky Pineflurry knew of this cave, but it was also beautiful to watch. It was chilly, though not freezing thanks to the cat next to him, and snow blew on him a few times, but it was worth it to watch the way the white snow swirled in the dark of the falling night. Wind whipped snow into dancing pillars of powder and whistled hauntingly through the trees that surrounded them. It was eerie and gorgeous to watch.
Surprise drew his eyes away from the storm back to the tom. It was like he was finally seeing him for the first time. Connected by the storm raging outside, the snow dusting the land, and the warmth of another beside him. The warmth...it was filling him inside. It wasn't something he'd felt before, not this warmth from inside, this need to be closer to the tom beside him. No, he'd felt the warmth beside him before, from den mates in the past during the colder parts of winter. But this..this was a first. The warmth from inside was as wild as the storm outside their little cave. Could..no, there was no way this was what he thought it was.
Pineflurry's face was frozen in surprise and...longing as he continued to watch the tom beside him, who watched the one thing that had once given him this same warm feeling. It was long ago when he was an apprentice and had gotten lost while out with his mentor. Separated from the other cat, and had found this cave where he'd watched a storm rage before him. He'd fallen in love that day, and has since longed for the same feeling since and thus has watched every storm he could.

Frostfire was oblivious to the tom's inner-thoughts, even oblivious to the tom's look of surprise. He could feel the warmth of the other cat, and appreciated it, but he was also entranced by the snow and the sky, the dark and light mixing. It seemed to Frostfire to be a strange kind of magic. A beautiful spell for a cat who was used to the monotony of life in WinterClan. Stubby, ugly shrubs, ice and snow, cold and unfeeling landscapes. That was, to him, what WinterClan was. But this storm brought a great and terrible beauty to him that he'd been longing for.
