Pineflurry had gone out to hunt, alone. Not his best choice but one he'd made anyways, and many times before. This time, this time he wouldn't be as lucky as those other times. Partially deaf in both ears, he's never been allowed out by himself for fear of a hawk or bear or some other creature killing him. Though he doesn't follow that rule well and no one forces it on him, and thus he's left camp many times alone.
Snow a thick layer, blinding bright and cold to paw pads, Pinflurry steps across it with care. He's always been light-footed, and hunting in the crunchy snow only helps enforce that. Off in the distance, out of sight and coming up behind the tom, a large hawk flew overhead. And it'd just spotted its next target. Tuxedo fur stuck out against the white snow, making him and easily seen target. Pineflurry was unaware though, his full attention on the white rabbit before him. A few paces more and he'd have it, a few moments longer and he'd be bird chow.

Frostfire was a loyal soldier, perhaps not as dedicated at the infamous Stormsurge, but undoubtedly devoted to his clan. It's why he was out hunting after already spending the entire morning patrolling. He was a senior soldier now, tired much easier, and he felt his paws start dragging as he plodded through the snow. Frostfire looked up as thought praying to StarClan for strength, when he spotted the hawk. It was circling lower and lower, obviously intent on a target. Frostfire was fascinated by the hunting techniques of those magnificent birds and began trudging through the snow bank to catch sight of it's prey.
When he spotted the target his blood went cold even as fire flared in his muscles. Pineflurry. He knew the tom only through the daily going ons in camp. They weren't close, hadn't really spoken before, but Frostfire knew he was hard of hearing and it was obvious he'd failed to notice the hawk. Even as the creature dived. So Frostfire reacted on instinct, he let out a loud yowl and ran, snow sprayed him as he surged through it but he kept going, desperate to reach the other tom in time.
(neverstarstar Sorry it took me so long. I couldn't think of how to reply)
Hearing something, not sure what, the tuxedo tom looked around. His prey scurried off, causing him to let out a curse at his misfortune. Pineflurry tried to not let it get to him and to focus more on that strange noise he heard. Just what was it?
The blue eyed tom didn't get long to ponder the thought. Another body collided with his, pushing both of them rolling into the snow. Unknowing to Pineflurry, he'd just escaped being hawk food by mere moments. The hawk in question pondered coming back after them, unsure if it wanted to risk challenging two cats versus the original one.

(it's all good <3)
He collided with Pineflurry with a loud 'oof' sprawling in the snow moment before the hawk would have reached Pineflurry. Snow sprayed up, soaking into his pelt with the snow he'd collected in his mad dash to reach his clanmate. The large tom was cold and stiff, but positioned himself to shield Pineflurry as his eyes raked the sky for the hawk. It was circling above, as though considering them, and Frostfire felt his long fur fluff up as he tracked it's flight.
Pineflurry shook the snow from his eyes that fallen there when he'd hit the ground. Staring up at the tom hovering over him he started to call out in angry, "just wha-" Then he saw it. The hawk circling above them, watching for an opening. The tuxedo tom hunkered down, realiing he'd just barely missed being a meal to one hungry bird. A whisper, "thank you," spilled from his mouth as he watched the sky. The hawk in question circled a moment longer before giving a screech and hurrying off after a differnt meal. One that would hopefully be easier than this attempt had been.

The hawk screeched and flew off, Frostfire let out the breath he'd been holding and moved aside, allowing Pineflurry to sit up and looking down at him with an awkward swish of his tail, "you're welcome. I'm sorry about tackling you just now, I had to act quickly." The older tom shook his long fur out uselessly, it did nothing to warm him up or dry his skin off. Frostfire turned back to looked at Pineflurry while twitching his fur uncomfortably, "were you hunting? Could I join you?"
"It's no problem. I thank you for your efforts." Glancing at the tom, he noticed the covering fo snow over him. "And apologize for the snow." Pineflurry shook his whole body, trying to deattach the snow that tried clinging to his fur, making him fully white instead of his black and white tuxedo pattern. A little confused why the tom would want to join him, let along ask him to join him on his hunt, Pineflurry stared at Frostfire. "I suppose if you'd like to I wouldn't be opposed to it." It'd surely keep me safer, he thought, least another hawk or worse comes by and tries to take off with me. Not many cats wanted to hunt with Pineflurry, they saw it as a nuisance having to essentially babysit the partially deaf tom while he enjoyed his hunting.

"You didn't set the snow here," Frostfire reassured the tom with a good-natured chuckle. He shook his coat out again, hopping a bit on his paws to warm himself up. When Pineflurry told him he could tag along Frostfire seemed genuinely thrilled, tail waving. "I dislike hunting alone, I much prefer being in pairs." The senior warrior trusted Pineflurry of course, he was a warrior of WinterClan, but something nagged at Frostfire and made him want to remain close to the tom. The vision of the hawk diving for him was still fresh in his mind.
"Of course. I can see the appeal." Though not many like doing it with me, but whatever. Beggars can't be choosers. Pineflurry motioned to where his prey had run off too. "We might try elsewhere though, I'm sure we scared off all the prey in the area if the hawk didn't."

"Lead the way," the older tom meowed cheerfully, "a walk will help us warm back up anyway." There was a change of a blizzard later, the clouds promised it, but Frostfire knew they had time and felt relaxed as they headed off to find a new place to hunt.
Keeping pace, silent but alert, the tom lead them lower into the land. Slowly the snow gave away to the greenery that existed in the lower parts of WinterClan. Prey was always more abundant here, but more easily lost as it's cross over the borders quicker. Already he could hear birds chirping above them. Nearby, a bush rustled and a rabbit darted infront of them, to far away to give chase. Pineflurry thought back to the prey that'd nearly been the cause of his death. He'd gotten lucky today, and he had his knight to thank. Whether the other tom thought so or not.

Frostfire padded along, eyes swiveling up into the air periodically in a newly found paranoia. Never had he worried about the sky before, the tom was large and had sharp hearing. But Pineflurry hadn't heard the screech or the wings, the thought made Frostfire shudder. He was silently thankful that the rabbit was so far away, because he was completely absorbed in his own thoughts, "hey," he meowed suddenly, "I'm glad you're safe, Pineflurry."
The tom was just as startled out of his thoughts. Turning his wide eyes towards the other cat, he blushed a little. "Thank you. I'm really lucky you came across me when you did. Otherwise, I'd be bird food about now." It was an attempt at lightening the mood, or at least another way of him expressing his gratitude. Though, Pineflurry wasn't sure he'd ever be able to truly thank the cat. It was a life debt, one he wouldn't forget anytime soon. His partial deafness had never bothered him before, but it'd nearly cost him his life today.

Frostfire tried for a purr of amusement, but it fell a bit flat. "Yes, well, we can certainly celebrate the fact that you're safe." The large grey tom shook his fur in a bothersome way, thoughts away somewhere not quite in WinterClan. "Anyway, sorry for the outburst, I should try focusing more on hunting." And getting away from these thoughts. The what-ifs. The grief. All seemingly triggered by Pineflurry's close call.
(neverstarstar what would you like to do now? Hunt?)
Pineflurry eyed the tom as he moved to a different spot to hunt. Already he could acknowledge the other tom's features, kindness, and bravery just from today. But there was always the downfall that no one wanted to mess around with a partially deaf cat. Sighing, he made his way to his own spot to hunt in. He'd dismissed the other tom's shaking as being feed up with babysitting him, but was far from teh truth.

(hunt... and flirt c;)
Frostfire tried to focus on the task at hand but instead of focusing on the prey in the area, he found himself guarding Pineflurry. He tried to be casual about it, but it was obvious he was hovering. Fretting. The tom's tail twitched and any noise made his fur fluff up.
(I don't know how to respond to him. He's awkward at flirting!! neverstarstar)
Pineflurry kept looking over his shoulder at the other tom, who was staying far to close for hunting. Did...did he want something? No, he had to be worried still about another hawk. "We're too close to the forest for the hawks to come down here. They tend to like the higher, easier prey than what they can find down in this area, so we're fine here." Maybe that'd get the other tom to stop hovering.

(gotcha, one romantic situation coming up read: a freak snow storm)
Frostfire huffed, embarrassed at having been caught, "sorry, sorry. I'm just a little freaked out. With the hawk and the sky looks kinda foreboding and I just..." the other tom forced himself to back up, "I'm sorry Pineflurry, please don't feel as though I think you're incapable."
The sky did indeed look foreboding. As they walked it turned from overcast grey to a sickly yellow. It was late for snow but this was WinterClan, it wasn't unheard of. And these clouds certainly seemed to promise snow. They heaved overhead and Frostfire twitched his tail as he looked up, they looked like... well like a snow storm rolling in.
As soon as he had the thought the flakes began to fall, going from a soft flurry to insistent snow quickly. The onslaught was alarming and Frostfire looked at Pineflurry nervously.
Pineflurry choose to not answer at first, having heard that excuse many times before. It wasn't uncommon that his clanmates thought him incapable of watching his own back, even more so when they witness him being nearly carried off by a hawk. Maybe it'd have been better for the hawk to do just that. It'd save him from the current conversation.
The tom followed his companion's gaze when he stopped walking. The sky was releasing her usual rain of snow upon them. Oh, joy. It was lucky that Pineflurry new a nearby cave that they could take cover in. He'd used it many times for situations just like this, and for when he'd go out blizzard watching. Chestnutpaw had faced his stern wrath in one of those blizzards for being out in it. She was far more important than he was to the clan. While he was an important warrior, she was the next witch. "This way."
(Ok so he was definitely not written as self-sacrificing or depressing but I'm kind of liking him this way lol. And it'd make sense after having cats baby him for his deafness)

(yeah i like it. and i like that frostfire is going to get to learn to trust pineflurry's abilities)
Frostfire didn't like bad weather. Be it rain, snow, intense heat. The tom much preferred mild, perfect weather. As a senior warrior he was one of the oldest in the clan, almost ready for retirement truthfully, and he'd seen storms kill on many occasions. He could also see that they would not have the time to make it back to camp. It wasn't uncommon for warriors to be stranded in storms, but around here he didn't know where to shelter. Thankfully, Pineflurry took the lead and Frostfire only had to follow as the wind picked up dramatically.
