Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Glowstar sashayed through the tall grass, her pelt glided along the tall grass, the auburn edges of her fur fanning out like a pair of angel wings. She was like a walking wildfire, cinnamon auburn waves of fur seemed to flicker like a flame in the sunlight and her reddish bombshell shades shimmered like beach shores. One moment Glowstar, leader of DayClan and emerging deep into SunClan, Strikhedoniadalisay of SunClan, or as her SunClan name translated to, to hell with purity. But most called her Strik. While she was leader of DayClan she was at all times, in DayClan or not a member of SunClan having passed initiation. Because of this Littlestar and Bloodyrondo were her superiors, especially while in SunClan's company. Historically during Foxstar's rule DayClan was enslaved by SunClan for a period of time before entering more peaceful times. Now SunClan was allowed to roam their territory freely with the policy in place that they could not hunt on their lands. SunClan and DayClan were beyond close now despite the harsh times each of them had to endure before getting to such a point. Any cat could be reminded of the strain SunClan and DayClan had by the matching scars Foxbane and Glowstar had along their necks from killing one another at the same time.
Typically she brought prey, but this time given that she was caring for Renegade Regime in camp since they were recovering from a flood, she had come empty pawed into SunClan.
Bloodyrondo had been strolling near the DayClan border. He often found himself wandering on this side of the territory, a habit that had stuck with him since his apprentice days. It was probably because of White Tree: The DayClan landmark had always been impressive to him. Despite all of SunClan's rare herbs, they had nothing quite like it on their territory. It was also the site of his first border skirmish. Looking back, he was deeply embarrassed by his behavior, firstly because he had initiated a fight with a DayClan Warrior in times of peace, and also because it had been the more than capable Azura. What possessed him to make him think he stood a chance winning the battle was beyond him, he was lucky that she hadn't skinned him then and there. He chuckled at the thought.
Bloodyrondo decided he aught to hunt a little bit since he had come so far. When he tasted the air, though, he was alarmed to pick up the scent of an intruder. He went still and opened his mouth to get a better taste of the scent. Definitely DayClan. He relaxed a little. It reminded him of Azura, but he knew it was not her. The ginger tom padded forward to get a better read on it and felt his front paws slip over a rock that had been hidden in the grass. He twisted to try and stay on his feet but it was all for naught; he hit the ground, hard, somehow on his back. He opened his eyes and saw stars, then closed them and groaned. Ugh. A few moments later he opened them again to see an actual -star hovering above him. Glowstar. Wait, Glowstar?! He'd never spoken to her, but knew of her, who didn't?
"Uh.. Strik, pleasure to see you?" He said, although his statement sounded sort of like a question. He had his his head pretty hard and hadn't quite gathering all of his bearings.
Glowstar's paw gently touched the top of his forehead, concern reflected in her eyes before turning into awe. A gentle oh sound escaped past her lips, fascination captivating her expression. Her emerald eyes lit up like starlight when she smiled down at him, "Wow, you're Bloodyrondo, I've only seen you at gatherings, you're incredible you know that?" Her voice had always been distinct, it spoke to everyone, yet there was something about her, maybe the pitch, the tone, or the look in her eyes that made a silent promise to anyone she spoke to that there was no one in the world she would rather be with than the one before her. But up close in contact it was easier to catch the detailed rhythm of her voice. It was like a soft song ending in a whisper, personal and intimate.
She tilted her head back in pure excitement before containing her glee and looking at him once more, "I have heard impressive things from you and during that flood in NovaClan, very impressive display of strength, I'm jealous! I think it is absolutely wonderful to see you as priest promised in such a female dominant clan, the pleasures truly mine. I wanted to drop in today and help out where I could. Or perhaps we can lie down, that is a unique activity I don't see many SunClan cats do."
DayClan was very playful, lying around and even playing as a kit were very common things to do. While SunClan behaved more like warriors who deserved respect and actively maintained that image. However it wasn't usual for SunClan cats to become more laid back while on DayClan land. Still this difference between cultures led to SunClan cats judging DayClan and DayClan being DayClan and not caring about the judgment. It was truly why they maintained good relations, DayClan was a tolerant ally.
Bloodyrondo instinctively flinched away from Glowstar's touch, mostly because he didn't want her to mess up the red-orange sun he had so carefully drawn there. This tom wasn't always such an open book, but he was certainly easy to read this time: he was embarrassed. His embarrassment only grew as Glowstar went on to shower him with compliments. Was she being sarcastic? He could not tell, but she sure seemed genuine, and he agreed with what she had said.
"Thank you for your kind words." He replied solemnly, assuming his usual formal tone, but the look on his face was a little goofy since he did not really know how he should address Strik. Technically, he was her superior given her unique relationship with SunClan, but literally anywhere else she would of higher status, "I was not near as involved as you were, though; I only worked on the dam... anyways... what are you up to this evening?"
"I'm here to hunt for SunClan, share tongues, check up on Darkcomplex, Duskslayer, Foxbane, Littlestar, Spellmania, maybe make some new friends. I don't know, the nights young, I'll see where it takes me." She cocked her head, revealing the silvery edge of two long scars, one dark as the night and the other shimmery, almost golden like light were trying to escape from it, "Actually," She said in a sing song voice, her gaze focused on him and in that moment she looked more dangerous than the night, "I came across you, so maybe I should spend the rest of my time here getting to know you and you getting to know me, after all no ones been leader longer than me so I'm sure when you become priest I'll still be around so we may as well get acquainted. That and you are priest promised and technically on SunClan territory I'm the senator so I should get to know you more for that reason too." Her dangerous look was playful now and it was likely she could turn it off and on like a switch.
It was well known that she was once the reaper assassin, lethal proxy, and third in command of Primal Instinct before being banished for going rogue and becoming deputy of DayClan. She wasn't the typical pushover, past kittypet, daddy issue leader that many other DayClan leaders had been, but more like an angel of death who left hells abyss to guard the garden of eden that was DayClan. That and apparently worked part time in SunClan as a senate. She was less mortal, more reaper that could go off any minute. Despite keeping a good appearance in DayClan as the elegant, peaceful leader, ever so often in moments like these you could see through the splintered cracks, past the mask and see the reaper inside.
Oh, right. Double citizenship. Duskslayer had that with DayClan, as did all of Foxbane's most recent litter had with the League. Glowstar obviously had that as well. It was really frustrating to Bloodyrondo how something like this was even allowed. It seemed like a real hazard to him; it only took one disgruntled cat to lead a patrol straight into the heart of the other's camp. Getting to SunClan alone was a maze and he didn't think it was appropriate for the leader of a rival Clan to know her way through it. The Sun God seemed to be okay with it, going so far as to give Glowstar a SunClan name, but it didn't stop Bloodyrondo from thinking it was a very bad idea.
Glowstar's glamor was beginning to fade. Her scars were proof enough that he shouldn't trust her with his back; she and Foxbane had gone rounds at one point in time and, although they seemed to be on good terms now, Bloodyrondo was not so quick to forgive. He didn't like how she was acting either, asking to spend the evening with him, but he figured he'd bite. It was better him than any other, more easily-influenced cat falling under this witch's spell, "I'm pretty busy but can always use an extra set of paws. I was hoping to bring some prey back with me to camp." He tasted the air and picked up a few trails, all of them a little too old to be viable anymore, "Having a hard time finding anything, though."
“I can always catch some fish, it’s better than nothing,” Glowstar offered. Typically she wasn’t against offering for them to hunt on DayClan territory, but unfortunately it was leafbare, the only season she refused to make a habit out of sharing any prey. DayClan suffered leafbares worse than any clans because there was so much open land, there was no buffers for the wind. Some cats got trapped in a white out, stuck in swirling vortexes, but this leafbare had been the first one in her leadership that had been forgiving.
Bloodyrondo didn't care for fish. In fact, he wasn't sure if he'd ever even tried to catch on before. Probably not. He'd like to claim his lack of effort was because it just wasn't a main food source for SunClan, but the truth was that he did not want to mess up his body paint, didn't care for water. Regardless, it seemed like the most viable option that they had seeing as no prey above ground seemed to be present. Leaf-bare was hard for all Clans.
"Sure, there's a pond not too far from here," The Priest Promised reluctantly suggested, "Unless you have another place in mind? I'm sure you are familiar with the territory. To be honest, I don't fish very often, so..."
"I recall last leafbare that SunClan had an abundance of fish in the river, the only downside is that the waters are freezing this time of year so although there will be plenty of fish, we only have so much time to catch as many as we can," Strik explained and lifted up her paw, "Last leafbare was difficult, SunClan had captured DayClan so they were on SunClan territory, but Sun had to hunt for two clans and since DayClan cats weren't permitted to leave they couldn't contribute. I had to try fishing for both clans, but I ended up getting hypothermia from fishing in the water for so long. We can probably fish for fifteen minutes to twenty minutes."
Strik started walking towards the river, but appropriately let the priest promise lead the way.
( yeah I don't know SunClan territory very well because the page doesn't give me a lot xD thank goodness Racer is working on it )
Bloodyrondo didn't really know how to respond to her statement. She had said it so casually, just like how most cats would talk about yesterday's patrol or an argument they had with a significant other, it was honestly a little disorienting. He had been an apprentice when all that went down but he didn't have a very clear memory of it. It just left him with a dislike of DayClan cats, but, honestly, he probably would have gotten there on his own anyway. "It was a dark time for both of our Clans," Bloodyrondo said a little hesitantly. It was an empty statement, not really something to be argued, and he picked it that way on purpose, "Surely there must be a better way to fish than to fully enter the water?"
"Of course, but the twenty minute rule still applies, of course we can always test out if we get hypothermia. Our territory is warm because the Sun God has blessed these lands. Maybe my legs only froze because I worked against SunClan and the priestess at that time," Strik ventured before further speculating, "Actually this leafbare has been the nicest it's ever been so maybe we'll be just fine."
She took it as a good sign that SunClan and DayClan's leafbares were relatively warm. For years the Sun God wished for her and Foxstar to get along, it seemed now that she stepped down the relation between SunClan and DayClan had only gotten better. Truly there was no better alliance for SunClan as they were rude, judgmental, and openly mean to outsiders including DayClan who were only a touch up from other outsiders. But DayClan was passive and understanding enough to still support SunClan. In a toxic kind of a way they were truly meant for one another.
Strik stopped at the river and turned back to Bloodyrondo, "How experienced are you in fishing in SunClan?"
Direct. Perhaps that was the best way to describe Glowstar. She didn't shy away from any topic and spoke of imprisonment and hypothermia as casually as she did the weather. It was a little disorienting but Bloodyrondo was starting to begin to figure her out, not that he ever successfully would, but it was a start. He could see how a confidence like that could be attractive in a leader. It was important to stay level-headed even in the darkest of moments. Yet, she still seemed, well, off. Not quite all there. Bloodyrondo certainly didn't trust her and wouldn't, not until he figured out what made her tick.
He let her lead the way while he was in thought, not really paying attention to her position until she asked him about his fishing experience. He had a panicked look on his face for a split second, "I know the gist. It's not so hard," the ginger tom replied, padding up to the water so she couldn't get a good look at his face. He saw the occasional flash of silver but nothing close to the riverbank, "Although, judging by your stories, I imagine you are much more familiar than I am."
"I'm uncertain what your skill level is to judge that, but I was a member of WaterClan for moons and have since kept up with the practice," Glowstar said stepping into the water fully at the shallow end so that only her paws were wet. The fish moved around her out of fear, but her shadow stayed out of the water and she kept very still as slowly the new fish that began swimming downstream paid her no mind. She didn't move, allowing some fish to pass her. She wasn't even looking at her paws. she was looking at the deeper end, waiting calmly before reaching out and slamming a large fish to the bottom of the river. She reached her jaw down underwater biting into the fish and dragging it onto the shore, its body violently flailing. Her claws whipped at its throat until it began to slowly give up.
"I always like to catch the bigger fish, they're a bother because then fish don't come back as fast, but I think it's worth it given its size," Glowstar remarked, "I actually used to catch river snakes, they were everywhere in the league, but I've yet to ever see one in the Forest Clans."
"The league can keep their river snakes, we have enough of them on land as it is," Bloodyrondo replied in an attempt to keep up a conversation, "Aren't they poisonous?"
Alright, so Glowstar really knew what she was doing. Very few cats these days could say that the learned to fish in WaterClan, the Clan whose main staple diet, at least he assumed, was fish. He glared at Glowstar's catch as it taunted him and was determined to at the very least match it. He didn't want her thinking he had any flaws. Bloodyrondo glanced over at the rolling surface of that water and watched for the tell-tale flash of silver when the sun hit the scales just right. It was a little slow going as most fish were still wary of their area after the DayClan leader's catch. Perhaps if Bloodyrondo was thinking - or had any experience here - he would have known better to move a little bit up or down stream and start with a fresh new school.
Luckily for him, he did eventually see a fish, but it was smaller than Glowstar's, so he ignored it. It danced well within his reach for several minutes without any of his mates joining him, as if it was daring Bloodyrondo to do go for the inferior catch. The Priest Promised got angry at this affront and slammed his paw down on top of it with his intention to scare it away: It was clearly not a hunting strike. He sprayed both himself and Glowstar (ooc: assuming she is close to him) with icy wate and frightened away any other nearby fish all over again, "I think we should move to a different spot, there don't seem to be any more worth catching here," he said, catching on a little too late that his former strategy was doomed to fail from the start, "I usually don't have so much trouble with this."
Strikhedoniadalisay tipped her head in thought and then shook her head, "I don't believe I know of any poisonous snakes, just venomous. Could you imagine a poisonous snake though, that would suck! They would just rub up against you and you would be poisoned, I'd rather avoid the fangs than have to avoid the whole body."
Her attention turned to him as he stepped to the shoreline and watched him, her gaze skeptical as he ignored the smaller fish. She saw it coming before it happened as Bloodyrondo splashed the water, flecks of cold water splashed onto her as her pelt naturally spiked up at the sudden freezing temperatures landing on her pelt. "That's just because I scared them all away in this area. Hunting and fishing are two entirely different beasts. Fishing pays off because you can catch a lot of big meat, but it requires more patience. Basically you sit for a long time, it's the same amount of time as if you were stalking around for prey, but it makes you feel like you're doing less when you aren't."
She was beginning to see the issue in this, Bloodyrondo didn't have patience and fishing was all about it. Strikhedoniadalisay walked him down stream and stopped, "Yeah over here's all the fish that ran from me. Sorry I gave you a disadvantage before." She seemed a little more at ease around him, she wasn't trying to keep up her DayClan leader appearance and come off polite and perfect as she typically did around every other cat.
If Littlestar were the one correcting him on poisonous versus venomous, he probably would have asked her what the difference was. Since it was Strik, though, he just got angry that she knew something he didn't, and also that she was treating him like an apprentice. This entire experience was very reminiscent of his brief training with Honeysplash but somehow more dreadful... which was hard to believe, given that that tom had been such a bad mentor that Bloodypaw had gone off to find a new one on his own. Unfortunately, Azura had never taught him anything about hunting. It did make him feel a little better that she apologized for giving him a disadvantage, though.
"Please be quiet while I focus." Was all Bloodyrondo said in response to her lesson, which was objectively pretty rude, not that it would probably bother Strik either way. He approached the water's edge much more slowly than before and was careful to not cast his shadow over the water. There were a few fish here that fit the bill and at this point it was just a waiting game to get the timing just right. He tried to remember Glowstar's form and held his breath until he saw the opportunity to strike. He was very quick but not very refined, so the attack made a much larger splash than Strik's had; however, he managed to toss that prey into the air and onto the bank. It very nearly made it back into the water but he made it there before that happened, dragging it further away from shore before doing a killing blow in the same was Glowstar had.
For all of his impatience, he did learn fast. His fishing was sloppy but it got the same results. He was smirking a little bit now, proud of what he had done, and sat his fish next to Glowstar's. Hers was still slightly larger - and less torn up - but otherwise identical, "These two should feed a few cats, SunClan will be happy for the meal. And... thank you for helping, I guess."
Glowstar lied down, her front paws crossed as she leaned her chin against them watching Bloodyrondo. It took him a while and wasn't perfect, but she was proud of him, he did what he sought out to do. She rose to her paws as Bloodyrondo walked over with the fish, "Hey, great job out there, I didn't expect anything less," She complimented before looking taken aback by his comment and dipped her head to him, "Of course," She paused briefly for a moment seeing his hesitation to thank her. However the fondness in her voice and serene expression hadn't changed, "I feel the way you look at me and I think a part of it is that I walk between clans. I don't take my membership in two clans lightly, I work to serve both. If you need me for a patrol or need me to mentor, I will always comply and have before. I'm actually delighted to run into you because I wanted to talk about our future relation, as it is a bit odd since in DayClan I'm an authority figure and here I'm a member. If that subjects alright with you."
Bloodyrondo hadn't really seen this conversation change coming and did not welcome it. He had his conclusions about Glowstar already and did not care to know more about her unique situation as member of two Clans. It was a mistake from the very beginning. Yet... Bloodyrondo could not ignore that the Sun God let her pass initiation. He looked into her heart and saw something worthwhile. He very nearly did not let Nikkohydrangea, who was a much better example of a SunClan cat, pass. But he let her. Perhaps he should be easier on the DayClan leader, but it was hard. He just did not understand how she could play both sides. It just doesn't work. She was offering additional training and other services, and she seemed genuine, but it felt like a band-aid for stab wound. Not enough.
"You may proceed." He finally relented and laid down next to her. Bloodyrondo was far enough away they their pelts did not brush but close enough to see her whiskers twitch, "I do not understand how you can lead DayClan yet be a Senator in SunClan. There must be a conflict of interests. How do you manage that? When your Clan is hungry, you can come here to eat, but you can't take any prey back with you. If you need an herb you come come here to be healed but not your clanmates. The Sun God sees something if you that I do not and that's fine, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend that we are truly allies, Pride Alliance or not. At the end of the day that place you rest your head is your home."
Honestly, this was about as civil as Bloodyrondo got. His voice did not waver but it also did not raise. He was growing up, bit by bit, last moon perhaps he would have handled this conversation with a few extra hisses thrown in.
"Psh, that's not true, I was born in a prison and slept there like all the time and that place was definitely not my home. I also slept in WaterClan, also not my home. I also slept in SunClan's prison, not really my home either. WinterClan's prison too. I don't know maybe you just haven't been jailed enough? I think if you were imprisoned you would get that just because you sleep somewhere doesn't make it your home. Plus I slept in the league recently for like a whole moon, but lately I've been sleeping over in SunClan and going home in the dark mornings..." Glowstar said getting off in a tangent as usual. She shook her head, "Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that while I'm on SunClan you can order me around, gives me more of a challenge. I just didn't want you to ever feel annoyed with me and uncertain if you would get in trouble for punishing me or telling me what to do because you're welcome to while I'm on SunClan land. Also, to be clear, I never take prey from SunClan, I always provide, never consume. Only exception being if someone invites me to eat with them, otherwise it would be rude."
Glowstar sat up, "I don't know, any questions about that?"
"You are totally missing my point..." Bloodyrondo grumbled, getting very annoyed with Glowstar, but holding back as best he could. It seemed like he had taken what he was said literally but for whatever reason the Priest Promised felt like she was making fun of him, "It's about your choice of home, it's a figure of speech... but you know what? Forget it." He had not been laying down next to her for very long but was back on his feet. His ton wasn't all that fired up, he just sounded tired, "I don't need your permission to boss you around while you're in SunClan, but I do appreciate your subservience, I guess. No questions on my part. We should probably get these fish back to camp while they are still fresh, there's a lot of hungry queens this year that I'm sure would delight in the treat."
