Rabbitfolly awoke with the sun as usual, did his patrol as usual, hunted before feeding himself as usual. Basically, it was a day like any other. Except Rabbitfolly felt off, sad. The usually unwaveringly hearty and chipper tom felt subdued, upset. All day long his tail had been a little lower, eyes a little duller. Perhaps it was boredom? Or maybe loneliness?
The pang in his heart as he entered camp with a finch and a vole confirmed as much, he was lonely. Rabbitfolly wasn't old but he also wasn't fresh from the apprentice den. And, to top it off, he'd spent his entire youth erasing the clan's memory of his origins. He didn't want them to think of him as an orphan loner brought to them, he wanted to be one of them. One of the bloodlines WinterClan cherished. He had worked a lot to prove himself, to make them forget.
But now, at this moment in life, he was still alone. The thought left him with a sour taste in his mouth and he all but kicked away the breakfast of a shrew he'd found himself from the pile.
(I have a female in Winterclan that I would like to eventually get her to find a mate but shes rough around the edges and hard to get along with. She needs someone willing to work through to her soft core XD think Rabbitfolly will be up for the challenge?)

[[ yeah I think so, he's kinda full of himself but really it's because he needs attention and acceptance from everyone. I think he'd kinda want her to like him because she seemed not to at first, so maybe it could start a bit of arguing that turns into romance later?]]
(Okay! We can see how it goes! She has a soft side but no one can get passed her tough side to see it XD )
Frostcloud, one of Winterclan's knights, padded up to the prey pile and took in the pitiful pile. Food was always scarce this time of year and it seemed as if the hunting patrols were bringing back less and less. Frostcloud's blue ice cold gaze locked on Rabbitfolly and the small amount of prey he was bringing back. Just two pieces? That would barely feed a couple of warriors. How could it feed a queen with kits? They had to do better than that. The white warrior narrowed her eyes, "how was the hunting today?" There was an edge to her tone as if she was just about to lay into him for bringing back such a small amount of prey but was waiting for him to try to come up with an excuse that she knew she wouldn't believe.

Rabbitfolly hadn't even noticed Frostcloud, and even now seemed to either miss or ignore her tone of voice as he answered, "poor, everything has gone to ground in this cold. I did locate what I believe to be a squirrel nest, as soon as spring comes they'll be plenty of squirrel on the fresh-kill pile." The tom sounded annoyed as he talked, glancing at his meager catch from it's place on the pile with undisguised bitterness. "I'm worried we're going to see all of it disappear in these conditions." The tiny shrew he'd collected for himself still sat a couple pawlengths away but his appetite was well and truly gone, so he added it back to the pile.
The white warrior snorted. "We need to start looking harder" she mewed, sternly. "This isnt going to feed us. Im surprised you even came back with that measly catch."

Rabbitfolly shot her a look of half disbelief and half annoyance, "oh I would have just buried it and let it freeze solid but I figured 'huh, maybe I should do my part and feed even one cat'. But you know, perhaps that was foolish." Rabbitfolly felt agitated now and rolled his eyes, turning away from her and back towards the entrance to camp. He'd go out and hunt again.
Frostcloud lashed her tail, irritation rising inside but she decided to let it go. At least he was going back out to try again. "I'll come with you" she mewed, bluntly, padding passed him to take lead. "I suggest we try hunting somewhere else."

"That's not necessary," Rabbitfolly responded immediately, pausing. "I'm not an apprentice." What was with him today? Usually he was quiet agreeable and friendly. But Frostcloud had found in at a weird time, one where he wanted to be left alone to mope. He remembered, a second to late, that Frostcloud was a knight. She outranked him, meaning if she wanted to lead a patrol with him in it, he couldn't stop her. Which made him bitter all over again. He should be a knight too, not a lowly warrior.
"I never said you were an apprentice" she fired back. "But clearly, you need help hunting. Perhaps another lesson." She smirked, slipping out of the camp entrance. She scanned the territory, snow covering the ground. It was like a winter wonderland and was quite beautiful. Although Frostcloud was a knight, she loves hunting and was one of the best due to her snowy white fur. It made it much easier to camouflage while hunting. She waited for Rabbitfolly to catch up to her.

Rabbitfolly bit his tongue, tail lashing in frustration, and followed her out. His dark tabby fur was painfully ineffective in comparison to Frostcloud's white fur and he lashed his tail again. This she-cat was going to make him explode with rage today. And the rage was such an unfamiliar emotion to him that he had trouble focusing on anything else but his own personal feelings. He stayed behind the knight, not looking directly at her even as he caught up to her.
"I suggest we check by the Springclan border. Sometimes their prey will cross over the border." Frostcloud decided with a nod. "Let's go." Without giving Rabbitfolly a chance to answer, she took the lead to the Springclan border. She trudged through the snow, her paws going numb. She looked up at the sky with concern. A dark cloud was coming in on the horizon. Hopefully they dont get caught in a blizzard. Before they reached the Springclan border, Frostcloud halted. Her ears perked and her jaws parted to taste the air. Hare! She could see the hare digging in the snow for a morsel. She lifted her tail for Rabbitfolly to stop and keep quiet. The white knight crouched into the snow and beckoned for Rabbitfolly to join her. "Here's what we are going to do. You are going to swing around and frighten the hare toward me. It won't see me until the last second when I grab it." She explained the plan to her clan mate, her voice lowered.

Rabbitfolly forced himself to relax and followed obediently, trudging through the snow bitterly. The SpringClan border was a good idea and that annoyed him. And then she finds a hare! Did StarClan bless this she-cat? He stopped when motioned and crept up beside her, listening to her plan before nodding. "Alright Frostcloud." He slunk off, forcing himself to focus on the task at hand. Feelings aside, this was a hare for his clan and he could work with Frostcloud to get it. But as he crept along he felt his thought turning back towards how he felt this morning. Lonely, cheated. He grit his teeth at that and failed to notice the stick that he snapped. He cursed StarClan and ran at the hare, it took off towards Frostcloud and he hoped she was ready because it was running now.
Frostcloud wasn't prepared for the sudden chase but launched forward anyway. The hare tried to turn sharply when he noticed Frostcloud come at him but the Winterclan knight hooked a paw and managed to snag it in her claws. She leaped onto it and gave it a quick bite on the neck. Frostcloud stood, panting. That was way too close. Her cold gaze turned to Rabbitfolly. "What happened?" she asked sternly before continuing without giving him time to respond. "With Starclan's blessing, we were able to catch the prey this time but we might not be so fortunate with the next time. We have to stay focused. Especially with leaf-bare. We can't afford mistakes! I expect an apprentice to have made a mistake like that but I expect more from you." She pushed snow over her prey so they could collect it later.

Rabbitfolly stood rigid as Frostcloud spoke, anger boiling in his eyes. But when she was done and he opened his mouth to make a stinging retort or defend himself, no words came out. Because she was right. The large warrior stood silent a moment, staring at Frostcloud, before suddenly deflating. He sighed and looked down at the rabbit, "you're right. We are lucky to have caught it. And, Frostcloud I do assure you, I am aware of the precarious circumstances. I apologize for the blunder. My mind was most certainly not present. Inexcusable." Leafbare was scary for their clan, which was already prone to harsh weather, and every single bit of prey was needed to keep all the cats fed enough to continue.
Frostcloud perked her ears in surprise. She had expected some sort of back lash from her harsh words. She closed her eyes for just a moment to collect herself. "Leafbare has been hard on all of us." Her voice was softer and much unlike the Frostcloud many knew her as which was bitter and rough around the edges. "We just have to push our own thoughts and struggles aside for the sake of the clan." She rested her tail reassuringly on Rabbitfolly's shoulder briefly before withdrawing. "Let's continue to hunt. The more we stand around chatting, the more daylight we lose." She began to head toward the Springclan border, leaving her buried catch for them to collect later. She glanced up at the sky to see where the clouds were. They still had time but she worried about a blizzard. Worst case, if they didn't make it back to camp soon enough, they would have to bunker down until it passed.

The kindness shown from Frostcloud did something to thaw him and when she suggested they keep hunting his heart felt as light as it usually did, the loneliness and sadness evaporated for the moment and he padded along beside Frostcloud confidently, "there may be some squirrels around, the slightly warmed weather the past few days may have coaxed them out." Rabbitfolly followed her glance up to the sky and flicked his tail, privately wandering if they should head back. There three days of comfortable weather had eased, giving them back harsh temperatures and changes for blizzard.
"Its possible" Frostcloud agreed with a nod. "We should keep an eye out while we head for the border." The white knight treaded through the snow, gracefully, her bright blue eyes scanning for any signs of prey.

Rabbitfolly followed along until a finch caught his attention from it's place under a bush off to their left. He paused, tapping Frostcloud's back with a paw and angling his ears towards the bird to alert her.
Frostcloud halted and crouched, giving Rabbitfolly a nod, indicating that this catch was all his. She watched him closely, hoping that their short pep talk had boosted his confidence enough to catch this easy prey on his own.
