"That sounds like my brother," Pantherclaw meowed as she finished up grooming Poppypaw. "He does tend to come across as being mean but he really isn't. He wouldn't make a good medicine cat if he was. He really cares for all of cats in SummerClan." She remembered how hard he worked during the mind illness many had suffered. He was a mere shadow of himself by the time it was over. It took him several weeks to recover from that ordeal.
She stood back and stretched. "I'm going to see if any fish came back. I'd really like it if we could take back three with us. Why don't you look over there for any water voles who might be out searching for food." She pointed with her tail to a place on the bank that was set back a bit from the water. It was a common place to find the elusive creatures. Then in one smooth bound, she leaped onto the fallen tree and started looking for another fish.

Poppypaw flicked her ears back as Pantherclaw bounded away toward the lake. She sure had a lot of energy and a positive attitude, Poppypaw was even beginning to feel a little bad for complaining so much around her. She turned her bondi blue eyes back to the two fish they had caught and licked her lips, but decided it best to abstain and stay in Pantherclaw's good graces. She padded toward the part of the bank the older she-cat had indicated and dropped into a crouch, opening her mouth to taste the air for scents of prey. A cold breeze blew in off the lake, freezing the tips of her whiskers: she could not help but sneeze. When she sneezed, she saw a water vole pop its head up, startled, and she lunged at it before she had a second to think of a plan. The vole nearly made it to the borrow when the apprentice put her full force on its back, snapping it in one clean stroke, "Wow, I've never caught one of these before!"

"Your first, huh? Not bad, in fact you did really well," Pantherclaw meowed through the tail of another bluegill. It still had water dripping from it. She dropped it beside the other two fish and then lined it up with the first fish she caught so their tails were overlapping. "There," she mewed proudly. "We now have a nice catch to bring into the camp. I'll carry these two while you can take the vole and the bluegill you caught." She knew several cats really liked the taste of vole and wondered if there'll be a tussle over who gets to eat it.
"This is a really good catch, we don't normally get so lucky in leaf-bare," Poppypaw mewed, picking up the water vole by its stubby tail. She then tried to pick up the bluegill, also by its tail, but kept dropping one we she tried to pick up the other. This continued for a few minutes until she somehow managed to get both in her mouth at the same time. She tried to speak again but it came out as a jumbled mess, but the words "good" and "hunter" were said, hard to say if she was talking about herself or Pantherclaw, though.
She bounded a few tail-lengths ahead and looked back to Pantherclaw, making sure she was following.

The black she cat picked up her two fish by their tails and followed behind Poppypaw. She waved her tail to her when she saw her look back. She felt very good about the catch they were bringing in. Often times during Leafbare a full hunting patrol didn't have this much success. In her mind she rehearsed the scene of the two of them bring the prey into the camp and the adulation that would be heaped upon them. This catch could feed seven or eight cats, even more if some of it would be sent to the nursery. Pantherclaw never outgrew the desire to be praised by her clanmates. As they passed a familiar landmark, she knew the were near the camp and her excitement grew even more.
Poppypaw pranced into SummerClan making a real show of her catch and sat them both down in the fresh-kill pile. The pile itself was quite measly but not entirely empty. She put her off-white paw down on the bluegill and looked back to watch Pantherclaw deposit her own portion of the catch. The apprentice licked her lips and said, "Pantherclaw, would you like to share this first with me? It's smaller than your two but will be plenty for two cats."

"Thank you, I'd be pleased to join you," Pantherclaw replied. She was very hungry for fish after carrying her two all the way back to the camp. "You did well by showing your patience to eat after we hunted for the clan."
"Very nice catch you two," Gentlebreeze meowed as she padded up to them. "I was out hunting earlier today but only found a scrawny mouse for my efforts."
"Gentlebreeze, you should join us!" Poppypaw purred, rubbing her head affectionately against the she-cat in greeting. Her fur was still a little wet and the older she-cat would be able to tell, "I did such a good job, didn't I? Pantherclaw was a great help too, of course, she's so quick!"

"That's because she takes after me," Gentlebreeze meowed in a rare show of humor. She smiled at her daughter who in turn smiled back at her. "You both did very well today," the older cat added.
"Yes, mother, do join us," Pantherclaw repeated Poppypaw's offer. "There's plenty of fish here."
"I think I will," the gray tabby she cat replied. She settled down next to Poppypaw and took a small bite. "Um.... this is delicious. Thank you for sharing."
Poppypaw started right in on her meal and was already a couple of bites in by the time Gentlebreeze had taken just one. She had always been a good eater, even during her kithood, much to the dismay of her clanmates. It was un uncharacteristic for her to offer to share a fish with Pantherclaw when she very much intended to finish this one off all on her own, "There's nothing like a fresh-caught fish! Especially during leaf-bare." At least her statement was true, the taste was more refreshing this time of year, free of twoleg pollutants that were much more common during the warmer months.

"I think you're right," Gentlebreeze agreed. "Maybe there's something about the cold weather that brings out their flavor." She took another small bite from the fish and sat back to chew it. The gray tabby was always mindful of others especially when eating and never wanted to take more than her share, most times she took less.
Pantherclaw sat back, finished with her meal. "Fresh anything tastes better Leafbare or Greenleaf," she replied. She never relished eating something that had sat in the fresh kill pile for long but she would only eat it just to keep her belly satisfied. More often than not there was fresh prey on the pile during the warmer moons than in the cold season.
"Oh don't be such a worrywart, Pantherclaw! Leaf-bare isn't half as bad as all you older cats say it is. I haven't seen snow as high as the trees and the lake definitely isn't frozen solid. I'm starting to think that you all decided to play a prank on me when you said leaf-bare was rough!" Poppypaw was giggling a little bit while she spoke, but she was serious with her accusations. The truth was that it had been a mild winter; given her age, she wouldn't have known worse.
Poppypaw picked up her fish's carcass by itself tail and stretched to her paws, "Well, I'm going to go bury this, then probably take a nap."
( I feel like this one is ready to wrap up ~ it was fun! Your roleplays seemed most realistic to Warriors, sometimes I am suspicious that you are an Erin.... )

(You're right, this is finished. You made this a fun thread. And thank you for the compliment! I try to remain true to the books in my roleplays but I'm not an Erin however, although I wish I was! )
