The gray and black tom still was on his guard and shifted nervously from one paw to another. He wasn't too sure of Link just yet. If he was truly alone and wasn't a forward scout for a group of rogues, that would make him less a threat. He wanted to believe Asher and decided to give him the benefit of the doubt - for now. "We treat all clanmates well," Ravenmask meowed evenly, giving the impression that if you're not a clanmate you're not treated well. "As for the Red Guard," he continued figuring this information wouldn't hurt if he told it. In fact it may help SummerClan to look stronger actually. "We're an elite force of warriors often charged with dangerous tasks that others are too afraid to do. We excel in battle skills and protect the clan at all costs."
Link's eyes flashed again. "Well I hope you do treat your cats well," he said with a toothy grin. "That's one less thing to worry about, eh? Anyways, an elite force of warriors you say? How "elite" could you possibly be? You dont look strong" His grin turned into a wicked smile. Sensing Link was up to something, Asher nudged him. "Quit it. I don't need you starting trouble. If anything happened I would have no choice but to take you down." Sighing, the tom relaxed and replaced the smile with a smug smirk. "Of course, of course." Sitting down, he licked his paw. "So, what does it take to join SummerClan? Do you have to pledge some sort of allegiance or something?"

Ravenmask's tail fur was all fluffed out in anticipation of an attack from Link. He had been in a crouch until he saw things were deescalating. Rising he moved closer to Asher. He didn't like this Link one bit. He was too sneaky, too smug. And if he ever wanted to see why he was a Red Guard member, he'd be more than happy to show him. "You have to ask our leader if you want to join. And if the answer is yes, you'll have to go through a probationary period to prove your loyalty to our clan." He looked over at Asher. "He made it." He really hoped this cat didn't want to join and was only asking out of curiosity. But if Link did, they'd have to haul him off to the camp so he could speak to the leader.
"Nahhh, that's okay," he meowed, amused at the tom's reaction. "That sort of lifestyle isn't exactly for me. Maybe some other time. Anyway, I just wanted to check up on this guy from time to time. I guess I apologize for causing issues, if Asher says so," he said grudgingly.

"Very well," Ravenmask said, relieved Link didn't want to join SummerClan after all. "We'll show you to the border. But be advised, it may not go as well for you if you try this again. Asher may not be the one who finds you. You might stumble upon a border patrol instead." For Asher's sake, he hoped Link wouldn't try coming across again. He noticed the friendship the two cats have and didn't want any hardship to come upon Asher because of Link.
Link snorted. "A few extra cats are not a problem," he responded with a smirk. "But sure. There's no problem if we meet at the border though, right. I wouldn't want you to get too upset," sarcasm oozed from his words. Asher bumped Link again and scowled at him before looking over to Ravenmask. "That is a valid question. As long as he doesn't pass the border, we can still talk to one another from time to time?"

The dark gray fur rose on the back of Ravenmask's neck when Link spoke. He was trying to be civil with this annoying tom and all he wanted it seemed was a fight. He'd give him one if that's what he wanted! He took one step forward and then stopped when Asher spoke. "It's up to you but I'd advise you not to do it often or let anyone know you're doing it. It won't look too good to others if you're known to be consorting with rogues."
"But I'm sure they'll understand that he won't do anything rash so it shouldn't be too much of an issue." Asher said quietly to himself before speaking up. "Do you think if I talked to the leader, they would give me a pass to meet him from time to time to minimize any issues that may come from it? he asked. In the background, Link looked at his surroundings a bit and yawned. Turning toward the border, he called out over his shoulder, "Ahhh don't worry about it. I'll see ya when I see ya." before heading into the brush.

"That'll be up to our leader," Ravenmask replied. "I'm just giving you a heads up about what others might think." His eyes followed Link as he left the territory. "Want to go back to camp or maybe do a little fishing? We have to cross the stream above the falls anyway to get back." He knew that every little bit of hunting helped especially during this time of year.

Asher looked back toward the brush where Link left and frowned. Turning back to Ravenmask, he said, "I suppose we could do that. I'm sure everyone at camp would appreciate the extra food. Where shall we go?" For some reason, something bothered him but he couldn't place what it was.

"I just said we have to cross the stream above the falls," Ravenmask meowed, eyeing Asher curiously. "We'll fish there. Is there something bothering you?" He looked back to the place where Link had been last seen and everything seemed to be in order.
He sighed sadly and shook his. "No, it's nothing really. Let's head out," he responded. "I am curious about something though, what do you think of Link. Judging by your responses and manner, you must not have liked him much. Am I correct?" he questioned.

"Actually you're right," Ravenmask replied. "But I don't know him that well. My first impression of Link is he's cocky and arrogant, and wants to do things his way. Not that being independent is wrong, which it's not, but a good clan cat wants to put his clan before his own interests. Apprentices are taught that right away by having to hunt first for the clan before they can eat. Cats who are most vulnerable are cared for first - kits, elders, and queens." He stopped walking and looked at Asher. "I'm sorry. Forgive me. I'm sure you already know that." Having just recently joined, Asher would have been told that.

He paused for a bit, thinking of how to respond to Ravenmask's words. "Its fine. He's not always like that, you know," he finally responded. "Despite the rough exterior, he isn't a bad cat." But of course, first impressions are everythin Memories of his past flooded his mind and he shook his head to be rid of them. "He-he's just had it rough. And because of that he's the way he is now." His face softened a bit. "Honestly though Ravenmask, he really isn't bad." he reaffirmed.

"Alright then," the black and gray tom meowed. "Can you tell me more about him? What made him that way? And do you think he wants to join our clan or was he just being curious?" He did want to know because what if Link really did want to join? Could he fit in with clan life? And more importantly would he be a loyal member?
"Well...," he started to say, thinking back. "He never really like to talk about it much, but I do know that he was abandoned by his two legs, some time before me, at least. It's a funny story actually how we met," he said with a small chuckle. "But, to answer your question about whether or not he wanted to join SummerClan, I dont know. He's talked about it before but he didnt seem too fond of the idea."

Ravenmask visibly relaxed. He was glad to hear Link wasn't too keen on becoming a clan cat. "That's too bad that happened to him," he meowed sincerely. "Every clan cat knows twolegs can never be trusted. We hear stories from cats like yourself or loners we've met about how badly they were treated by them." He truly felt sorry for any cat who was caught up in the clutches of these evil creatures. "Can I ask if they were mean to you too?"
He shook his head quickly. "Oh no not at all. They were actually really good to me. Well up until...." he motioned to himself using a paw. "I started to change." He sighed and looked down. "I guess they didnt want a defective cat so they dumped me. I me-I mean I dont blame them for what they did...I wouldn't want me eit-" his voice trailed off as he got choked up, the memories of being with the twolegs came back to him. "Excuse me," he said as he tried to regain his composure.

"Defective?" Ravenmask asked. "I don't see anything wrong with you at all. You look fine to me." He stepped closer to Asher. Without realizing it, getting to know this tom made his earlier suspicions concerning him fade. "You shouldn't think that about yourself. Who knows what goes on in twolegs' heads? They're unpredictable and do weird things like keep vicious dogs for pets and ride around in monsters. That just goes to show you why cats should never trust them. It's a good thing you got away from them when you did. Who knows what they might have done to you when you got older?"
He shrugged slightly. "Yeah, I suppose you're right about that," he replied. "Yeah, it was probably for the best I got out of there when I did." Looking to where they were going. "Sorry about that...again," shaking his head quickly. "Anyway, how close are we from where we're going?"
