Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. The smiled faded slight from the leader, his orbs taking in the she-cat at her request. As she spun, he couldn't help but truly take in the she-cat. Having grown up around Springclan, he knew of his clan mates, but he often preoccupied himself in his own training or work to really truly notice anyone. Dovewish was always around and he saw much of her throughout camp, but it was in this moment that he realized he never truly took a good look at her. Her normally gray coat was now thick with a veil of white, though her true color still stuck out in places such as her legs and underbelly. She was light and slim and her expressions pleasant. Her blue eyes watched the leader in playful expectancy and he couldn't help but allow his gaze to linger longer.
"It looks good on you." He finally pushed out, his pelt growing hot as he realized he had been staring for too long in silence. He cleared his throat, looking away immediately with a new wave of embarrassment. "If we stay out here any longer, the others might not recognize us when we come back and mistake us for rouge intruders." He spoke slightly flustered by the overwhelming embarrassment that burned throughout his body.
She felt warm under her fur when he told her that white looked good on her. Her heart quickened its pace and she couldn't help but feel lighter than air. She looked at him and took in his features. She hadn't noticed how his eyes sparkled before. The way his muscles rippled under his glossy beige pelt and how trimmed he was but most importantly, she noticed how charming he was and how sensitive. She realized the stern mask he wears was simply just a mask. He was kind and cared about Springclan. It melted her heart. However, she couldn't let herself fall. After what happened between her parents, she didn't want to have to go through what they did. She believed love didn't exist. It was only a chemical reaction to help with repopulating. It never lasted and she must not fall victim to it.
She chuckled, pushing back her unwanted thoughts, "your probably right. Want to race?" She pawed at the ground and got down, ready to spring forward.
At the sound of the challenge, Thistlestar's ears perked up, his expression turning serious as he took in the she-cat. Instead of Dovewish, he saw a ginger she-cat, her eyes bright as she awaited eagerly for his response to her challenge. Thistlestar stared on in complete shock, his heart racing as the ginger she-cat offer a all too familiar smug smirk that only made his heart pound harder. The leader blinked a couple times, turning away a quick moment and back only to find Dovewish again, her blue eyes equally bright with excitement. The flash of the unexpected memory had taken Thistlestar by surprised, he couldn't find the words for a few moments. He regained his composure rather quickly though, immediately falling into a sprint position, flashing the she-cat a rather cool side smirk "When you are ready." He meowed, his ear falling flat in anticipation. His muscles clenched and unclenched in preparation.
"Ready....set.....go!" She launched forward, stretching her legs out in long strides. She raced through the forest, kicking up the thin sheet of snow that was beginning to form as the snow fell. She could feel her muscles and lungs burning as she ran, her breath coming out in clouds from her muzzle. Over the whistling of the wind in her ears, she could just make out the thundering paw steps of Thistlestar close by.
Thistlestar smiled widely as he watched the she-cat launch forward, holding back for a slight moment before breaking into a sprint himself. Thistlestar was light on his paws, his muscles humming with glee as he broke through the forest, keeping close to the she-cat's haunches. Thin poofs of powdery snow clouded the tom's vision, but did not slow him down in the slightest. Thistlestar focused intently on his breathing which was heavy yet calculated as he paced himself purposely, falling just behind the she-cat. He knew he had more in him to launch himself ahead of the she-cat, but he waited for the right time...
The camp entrance was soon in sight but Dovewish was getting winded. She had used much of her energy to start off the race and didn't save any. Her lungs and muscles burned as she pushed to finish. As much as she was hoping to win, she couldn't help how much fun she was having. She looked over her shoulder at Thistlestar and couldn't help but laugh. She wasn't laughing at him, she was just having fun. However, the laughing slowed her down a little bit. The camp was getting closer and closer, perhaps she would win this.
A wave of burning heat pulsed through the leader's muscles as he pressed on, his breathing progressively growing heavier and heavier as he kept pace with the grey she-cat. She was fast, he had to give that to her, but her movements changed ever so slightly, revealing the struggle the she-cat was beginning to take on. Thistlestar pulsed forward just as the she-cat turned back, a happy laugh that the leader returned with a smile. As the two neared closer to the camp, Thistlestar pressed on, gaining track ahead of the warrior. Everything looked as if the leader was going to win. Despite the growing strain in the leader, he knew he had enough energy to bound ahead easily, but instead he slowed ever so slightly, falling back to the she-cat's side as the two finally made it passed the camp entrance.
Dovewish slowed to a stop, panting in an attempt to catch her breath, her flanks heaving. "It...was a..tie" she mewed between breaths, her voice full of laughter. "But I still think you took it easy on me" she purred, her blue eyes sparkling and a beautiful smile spread flawlessly across her face.
Thistlestar came to a rather graceful stop, his chest heaving heavily as he body fought to regain control of breathing after the spirited race it had undergone. "We will have to have a... rematch soon." He panted, his quiet words coming out more as breathes than a voice. Her smile was infectious, causing the leader to offer his own smile "I would never." He lied casually, a wide grin giving away the flasehood of his statement. He couldn't help but chuckle as he glanced around the quiet camp.
"We can settle a rematch in the morning." He whispered, bowing his head deeply. "Thank you for joining me on a night walk." He spoke, sincerity dripping from each other "I enjoyed and appreciated your company."
She purred and nodded in agreement to a rematch. Then, she dipped her head in return, a grin on her face. "It was my pleasure. Thank you for joining me as well. This was fun! I enjoyed and appreciated your company, too. We should do it more often." She blinked warmly at him before taking the lead into camp. The sun would be up soon. She needed to get rest. She headed toward the warrior's den, her bones feeling weary and cold. She curled up into her nest. Although it was cold since she hadnt been inside it for some time but the rest of the den was heated by the many bodies snoring away in their sleep.
Dovewish was almost afraid to fall asleep. What if the nightmares returned? But soon, as the warmth embraced her, she drifted off into a deep sleep. She had a dream that was mostly pleasant. More so than her usual dreams. She was running through the forest but instead of it snowing, the sun was out and it was warm. Everything was in bloom and lush and green. The forest alive with birdsong. It was just then that Thistlemask showed up in her dream. He was almost glowing and his eyes were warm. Something inide her belly fluttered as if she had a million butterflies in the pit of her stomach. She had sworn to herself that she would never fall in love. Life was too full of loss and here she was, falling head over tail for him. They both slowed to a stop and her turned to look at her. She felt her heart skip a beat. He leaned in to touch his nose to hers and she recoiled before he could. He looked at her confused and then faded. She looked around for him frantically, hoping to catch one last glimpse of him but there was no sign of him anywhere. Sinking into sadness, she began to walk with her head lowered until the ground gave out beneath her and she fell into darkness.
Dovewish jerked awake in her nest, her heart racing and beads of sweat dampened her fur. Dawn light filtered into the den. She took a breath of relief, realizing it was only a dream. However, despite the falling and Thistlesfar fading, she couldnt help a small smile spreading on her face. The way he looked at her in her dream. She shook the thought away. Theres no way he would fall for someone like her. Besides, he was only her friend. She didnt want a mate. Not ever. At least it wasnt as scary as her usual dreams. She crawled out of her nest and out into the camp. The camp was blanketed in a small dusting of snow. The forest glistened and sparkled. It was beautiful. As she stepped out of the den, the cold air suddenly hit her and she shivered. She let out a large yawn. A night out like that left her exhausted. Hopefully this doesnt become a regular thing. The fresh-kill pile was low and her stomach growled. She had better go out and hunt. That should help get her mind off the handsome tom.
Thistlestar watched on silently, watching the pretty grey she-cat make her way deeper into Springclan camp. The smile couldn't be wiped from the leader's face as he finally stepped forward towards the leaders den, only after he watched the she-cat enter the warriors den. It wasn't until he entered his lonely den was he reminded of the reason he left that night in the first place. The feeling of peace and content in his chest began to disinflate as his mind wandered back to the image of a ginger she-cat. A soft sigh escaped Thistlestar as he settled in his cold moss bed, resting his head on his paws, his eyes clouded as he thought of yet another night of no signs from her. The memory of Dovewish snuck in shortly after and the tom couldn't help but perk up. The raw image of the she-cat sitting peacefully at the foot of the creek, her pelt glowing under the bright light of the moon. He couldn't help but chuckle under his breath, his smiling slowly returning as his eyes began close, allowing the leader to begin his drift into deep sleep. For once, the haunting image of a ginger she-cat was not the last thought on his mind. It was in this moment the young leader knew, it was time to begin the process of moving on...
