Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
She nodded and settled herself back in the spot where she had been resting. It was still slightly warm from her body heat but it was still uncomfortable. Dovewish tried to rest but she couldnt. She was wide awake and anxious to get back home.
Dovewish and Viperstream had been bunkered down in a cave all day and all night. Viperstream had suggested that they wait for things to clear up before they make the attempt home. As Dovewish lay restlessly on the stone floor, the sun rose in the sky, painting the lingering clouds a watery pink. Bird song filled the air and woke Dovewish from her fitful sleeping. She blinked open her blue eyes and her jaws parted in a large yawn. She felt like she hadn't slept in days. The gray she-cat rose to her paws and stretched, feeling her stiff muscles loosening. After stretching out her aching muscles, she began to wash herself, grooming down the pieces of fur that stuck up from her tossing and turning. She couldnt wait to get back to camp and collapse in her nest. However, she knew that wouldnt happen. She probably would need to join a patrol. Hopefully, a search party hadn't gone out to look for them, yet.
After her washing, she turned her head toward her resting clanmate. "Viperstream. Are you ready to head home?"
"Hmm?" he said groggily before yawning and stretching. The cave was alot brighter now as his eyes readjusted to it. Rising to his paws, he felt the stiffness from laying in one spot for an extended period of time. Taking a few steps, he stretched out his hind legs before responding to Dovewish. "I suppose now would be a good time."
Excitement fizzed through her. Finally, they were heading home. "Great! Let's go!" Dovewish bounded out of the cave and down the slope. The forest was still littered with debris but morning sun gave the forest a milky golden glow. She breathed in, the air still smelling of rain and wet plants. She stood at the bottom of the slope, taking in the fresh air and waiting for Viperstream to follow.
Viperstream trotted after her, the ground soft and mushy from rain saturation. The air did smell nice to him, the aroma of water and grass filled his nose. It was almost a reward to him that something so violent would leave that behind. Catching up to her, he said, "Alright, we're all set."
Dovewish nodded and began to head toward the camp, the ground squishing as she walked. "I'm sorry you had to be stuck in that storm with me" she chuckled.
"Well I would love to lay down in my nice dry and warm nest!" She purred, giving a little bounce. Then, she heard a rumbling and perked her ears. "Did you hear that?" Then it happened again, this time she felt it. "Oh, wait. That was my stomach" she laughed, feeling the hollowness in her belly. "I forgot how hungry I was!"
He gave her a slight shrug. "I dont know but I dont see why not. When we get there, they may very well be crowfood, but we can check and see." His stomach growled and his mouth began to water at the idea of eating finally eating something. "Shall we?"
"Sure" she agreed, a little disappointed that they weren't going straight home. It wasn't long before Dovewish and Viperstream came across the rabbit that Dovewish buried the day before. It was a bit soggy but there was still some salvageable meat left on it. "Well, would you look at that! It survived!"
He let out a sigh of relief. "Wait here, let me go check mine." Scampering over to his burial site, he dug up his prey. "Curses," he said under his breath. What was revealed wasnt anything more than a soggy pile of feathers. When he went to pick it up, the skin slid around and dirty water filled his mouth. He spat it out with disgust and covered it up again. Hopefully what was left could nourish the earth. "Well, that's a no go for me," he said with disappointment as he made his way back to Dovewish.
"That's okay. This still has a little meat on it. And we can catch something really quick before heading home, if you want" she suggested with a sympathetic smile.
He was a bit too tired to go out and catch something for himself but at the same time, he knew she was hungry herself. "Thank you, but that's okay," he said, "I think I'll be able to manage until we reach camp I'm sure there will be something on the fresh kill pile."
