As the sun sank down in the horizon, the sounds of cats stirring from their nests filled the quiet camp. The hoots of an owl filled the air and Crookedspiral pricked her ears. That wasn't a good sign. Being a clan of night, owls were a common occurrence but this one was close to camp. She rose from her nest and padded outside of the den, the moon washing her fur with pale yellow light as she emerged. Her eyes flicked around the camp for a moment and she frowned as no one else seemed to notice. Usually you would take on an owl with another cat, but she figured it wasn't a big deal to these lazy bums. Letting out a contemptuous snort, she headed out of the camp by herself. Her heart thumped in her chest as she slunk closer to the sound and her eyes narrowed as they landed on the large bird. She launched herself up the tree and swung a paw with claws extended out to smack the owl. However, she lost her balance and came tumbling down the tree, the sounds of twigs snapping filling the air as she fell. Right before she could land awkwardly to the ground, she grabbed on to the closest branch and held on, hissing as she felt a claw rip. "Fox-dung!" She growled furiously as the owl flapped away.
"That was very smooth of you, Crookedspiral" a voice said sarcastically from the tree line. Silverstar padded forward into the moonlight that managed to break through the leaves. He watched as the owl, startled, took to the air and flew away, the sound of its massive wings beating the air into submission around it. His gaze fell upon the she-cat as a slight smile spread across his face. "Are you okay," he asked.

"What does it look like?!" She hissed furiously without thinking about who she was talking to. Crookedspiral had the tendency to do that sort of thing. Her ears flew back against her head in embarrassment, but she couldn't bring herself to apologize. As she slithered down the tree trunk, a throbbing pain shot through her torn claw and she could feel the ache of a few pulled muscles. There was no way she was going to let Silverstar see her pain, though. "I'm fine." She huffed and flicked her tail irritably.
He shook his head. "Are you sure about that?" he continued on as he got closer to her. "Do need to go see the medicine cat at all?" Silverstar, ever since the Moon God chose him as leader, has become more sympathetic and kinder to those around him than he already was. "Let me see your paw."

The fact he could see right through her poor facade made her more irritated and the blush rose further up. "I said I'm fine!" She snapped, turning her head away so he couldn't see the lie in her eyes, or the growing guilt. She knew lashing out at the leader was a poor choice for a warrior. Shoving down her pride with as much strength as she could muster, she glanced over at him. "Sorry." She mumbled, clearly not meaning it but feeling obligated to say it.
He gave her an amused, but soft smile, before turning back toward camp. "If you're as fine as you say you are, come, have a walk with me. I could use the company," he said over his shoulder. Nights like this were perfect. The moon was high and the air was cool. It's been a little hectic lately and he could use the break.

He irritated her. How could he be so soft and gentle after she just bit his head off basically? Crookedspiral glanced down at her bloody claw and sighed. She wasn't sure how she would get through this walk either way. Between his friendliness and her snagged claw, it was going to be a task. Looking back up at him, there was no way she could refuse, and that just irritated her more. "Okay fine, if you're sure you want a cat like me as company." She huffed and rose to follow him, wincing as pain shot through her foot.
Silverstar quickly slid beside her to help support her weight. "Are you sure you dont wanto to go back and get that paw looked at?" he asked again in more of an insisting tone. "Sure would be a shame if one of our best warriors were out of commission for a while, dont you think?"

If she had been a kettle then the steam would have came right out of her ears from the sudden blush. Best warriors, puh. He's lying! Crookedspiral turned her face away to hide the sudden embarrassment. "It's really okay. I'll just put some cobwebs on it and go to the medicine cat later." She mumbled, glancing around for nearby webs. "And I'm not that good of a warriors, so don't feel like you have to lie to make me feel better."
He shook his head and smiled. "Do you really think I would lie to you, Crookedspiral. I mean really?" At the mention of cobwebs, he looked around him. Not too far off behind him, he spotted some. "Ah, here we are." he said as he guided the she-cat toward them. "As soon as we're back at camp, I really want you to go see the MC."

Crookedspiral shot him a doubtful glance before shrugging. "Cats have been lying to me since I could remember, so there is no telling. Also, I guess if you say so, but I still say it'll be fine." She was starting to lose some of that irritated edge in her voice, but it was never gone completely. She grabbed a few of the cobwebs with her teeth and began working them around her paw. It was a clumsy heap of web, but it would do. "Good thing I'm not the medicine cat." She grunted.
Silverstar shook his head with a slight smile. "Why do you still think I would lie to you," he asked as he watched her wrap her wounds in cobweb. It was a bit worrying, though, that his words were unbelievable. But on the other paw, he knew that Crookedspiral was a...stubborn she-cat. He reluctantly shrugged. "No need for you to be a medicine cat, if you're already good at something else," he reaffirmed

Crookedspiral rolled her eyes. She did not understand him one bit. "You don't have to say that kind of stuff just to make me feel better, you know." She meowed bluntly, and a little crossly. The grey and white warrior had learned long ago not to believe a single thing anyone told her and to not accept compliments from anyone. "You're one of those types, aren't you?" The friendly, peaceful, naive types. Ah, how they annoyed her. How could they not see reality and all of it's ugliness?
"One of those types? Whatever do you mean by that?" he asked with a sarcastic smile He knew what she meant but it was amusing to see her frustration with his demeanor. "I'm a little hurt by those words," he mowed as he raised a paw to his heart in feigned pain. "But no, I'm not one of those types"

Crookedspiral let out an annoyed growl and shook her head. "Are you sure?" She questioned doubtfully. "Then prove it. Say one thing mean to me and I might believe you." The yellow-eyed feline had no faith that he could hurt a fly. Silverstar was an enigma. She hadn't known too many kind and gentle Moonclan cats. What a strange cat.
He opened his mouth to say something, but closed it. It went against everything he believed in. It wasn't something he could call upon on demand. He shook his head. "I can't do that, Crookedspiral," he said plainly. "That's not who I am. You should know that." He briefly glanced back toward camp. "Are you ready to head back?"

Her whiskers twitched in some sort of irritated amusement. Of course he couldn't do it. That's not who I am. Wouldn't it be nice if every cat had that same thought? Nah, it would probably be weird. "I guess, nice boy." She responded and flicked her tail over his nose. Crookedspiral knew she should be more like those other cats in front of a leader, all respectful and such, but that just wasn't who she was.
His nose twitched at the touch. "Stop that," he said quickly before turning toward camp. He should have known from his run-ins with her before that she was something of a deviant, but he ignored it. "I am curious though...why are you like this," he questioned. "You're nothing like the others, so what makes you different?"

"Easy." She huffed in response, almost daring herself to flick his nose again out of pure pleasure, but deciding against it. "I don't care what anyone really thinks of me. I'm not here to paw-lick my way through life." It was such an easy answer, but it was definitely a lie. Only she had to know that, though. Fake confidence is still some sort of confidence, right?
"Hmm...well I suppose so," he said quietly, frowning. Still, something seemed off about her but he couldnt quite place it. Looking down the path they were taking, the scent of his clanmates got stronger. Shaking the thoughts from his head, he said, "We're almost back home."
