Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Murderers. Monsters. Just a few quaint names to describe the residences of his new humble abode; perhaps a nomad should've been more wary about setting roots in a place like this, but strangely enough no such thoughts plagued his mind, though far from your average resident. His mannerism wasn't exactly one that struck fear, but perhaps that's why his greeting into the league had been so amusingly predictable... They saw him weak. Something that didn't belong. While it was entertaining to allow them to harass him for now, in due time they'd understand why he wasn't as different as they all believed him to be...
Relishing in the coolness of the evergreen forest—early morning dew covered the thick greenery while patches of light found their way down to the ground past the tree tops. It was a pleasant morning, peaceful and serene compared to what waited inside the estate. Looking for a change of pace, Thanatos crept deeper into the greenery where he eventually disappeared.
Deeper and deeper it wasn't long until he noticed he wasn't alone...another monster to scare him perhaps? Whiskers twitching, a smile eventually curved the edges of his mouth into an inward smile. Hunt or be hunted... If they wanted to play so badly then so be it. He'd at least give them a hunt to remember...
“Already brave enough to venture into the deep, dark woods?” Eshek’s voice was dry and disinterested, all imperious condescension and frost. She had draped herself over the branch of a tree, three of her legs dangling in thin air and the other pinned under her chin. Eyes half-lidded, she raised her heard to tug at a loose claw coating with her teeth. “My, aren’t we bold.”
She peeled off a scrap of bark with her claws and flicked it down to land on the tom below. “Whoops,” she drawled, and laid her chin back on her outstretched paw, tail-tip flicking idly as her gaze drifted from the other cat to the blur of pine needles and weak sunlight in the distance. He'd only been here a day and already she was bored of him. Truly, her dislike of toms could not be overstated; with the exception of perhaps Lucistic, who had earned her affection through ghastly means best left unspoken in polite society, she thought them all to be fragile, emotional, and hardly worth her time. This one was no different.
After quickly figuring out it wasn't ground movement he had sensed but the presence of Eshek up above, head slightly tilted his eyes roamed up to meet the voice had spoken to him. "Bold, hm? I don't quite know about that...it was suggested I go explore by an acquaintance; so here I am." Taking no mind to her comment, it's what he'd been expecting anyway.
Judging from her lukewarm response this she-cat didn't have much expectation of him, but if they we're both being honest the feeling was perfectly mutual.
After being flicked with the scrap of bark she had intentionally tossed at him, he smiled. "Oh, don't worry I understand that it must be hard to see being all the way up there, not all cats can be gifted with such keen eyesight." It was an obvious provocation; his attempt at playing with fire. It was the untasteful side of him that found it entertaining to tease his new group mates. The majority usually responded, and well...it was certainly fun on his side.
"An acquaintance?" Eshek echoed, voice shrill and strangled by unkind mirth. She scrabbled to her paws, claws digging into the bark, and let out a shriek of laughter as she picked her way along the branch over the stranger's head. "Been here a day and you've already got yourself a wittle acquaintance, do you? Well, aren't you just a marvel of social in-ter-act-ionnn." She spoke the last bit in a deep, mocking coo, crouching down to half-hang over the branch and fix him with a cruel grin.
Not all cats can be gifted with such keen eyesight. "Ooh, little kitty is tryna be a big, nasty baddie and insult me, is he?" She tittered to herself, flashing rows of sharp teeth, and leaped down to land on the spongey pine needles beside him; it wasn't elegant, and it certainly wasn't graceful, but neither was she. She stumbled and caught herself with a hissing laugh, tail swishing through the air and one paw held in the air, claws sheathing and unsheathing to no particular rhythm. "Does little kitty have a name? Little villainous name?" She drew closer and tilted her head to the side, lips drawn back in a dangerously playful grin. "C'mon."
Been here a day and you've already got yourself a wittle acquaintance, do you? So she was that type...Big and bold despite her size, and crude apparently. Just as obvious as he'd been provoking her, it seemed she had the same idea; unfortunately for her neither fear or any rise would come from him. A solid tom both in mind and foundation—her words were easy to push into the back of his mind and simply fade in with the rest of the other taunts he'd heard countless a times.
"Well if you add meeting you here then you can certainly say I'm on quite the roll." He mused in response to her words, eyes keeping a lazy watch on her. When he noted her by his side, he seemed to be ignoring her little show for now. "Oh, did that sound like an insult? My apologies, I was simply making an observation out loud." He again smiled perfectly. "While I may be social, I'm afraid my manners are rather shot from living as a nomad..."
"Though one little thing I do remember is I believe it's common courtesy to introduce yourself first if you'd like to know another's name." His voice melted into a smooth croon, defiantly opposing her attempt to intimidate him into submission.
Eshek smiled tightly and let out a low, unsatisfied hum; this interaction was already proving unpleasant and they were only a few words in. “Lived as a nomad, did you?” she asked, voice stiff and far deeper than her usual register. “Why’d you have to come here, then, and ruin it for the rest of us?” As he continued, she rolled her eyes and sneered, "ugh, please, if your bad guy act doesn't kill me first, it's gonna be the formality. Common courtesy - I'm gonna die, this is amazing."
With that, she swept into a low bow, forced a rough purr, and replied, “But where are my manners? Eshek, sir.” Her head snapped up and she added, with a faint growl and a sharp, sticky grin, “torturer. Your turn.”
Tail flicking just at the tip, Thanatos offered a ghost of a smile. "Call it spontaneity or whim it's just how things turned out." He chuckled before his tone switched to light and teasing. "Oh? And here I thought I was doing a pretty good job, suppose that means I should be taking pointers from you then.." His eyes traced over her in a quick once over. "But we can't have you dying yet, I'm sure Mother E'tani would be quite cross with me if I bored one of her fine hunters to death."
Upon hearing her name; the tom could only agree that it suited her. "Eshek.." He let her name roll off his tongue. "Already a much better name than mine." The tom mused, "I've long since given up my name but those on my travels referred to me as Thanatos, just a humble observer."
Though he said observer, there were times in his life when he'd done much more than just observe. Back in his land a "Thanatos" was a cat to be feared, a cat with no connections except to themselves. It's what made them the most dangerous cats to face, because they didn't need anybody.
Mother E'tani. Even if she felt little true affection for her home, it still felt strange to think of anyone by Marchosais as the Nemesis. Certainly, there had been others in her time - Solaris, Vera - but the rapidity of succession had started to make her anxious and there was something about Mother's accession to the throne being so unearned that grated at her. But she would pledge her fealty and grovel at her paws, always good for a wide grin and a pretty word of devotion. Same as ever, over and over, till the League spun itself out and they all sunk into their graves.
"Oh, you really are charming, aren't you?" Eshek purred, like this other cat was just a little mouse and she so loved playing with him. She smiled crookedly as she studied him, like there was something about him she didn't quite believe, and let out a soft huff of a laugh, not deigning to respond to his vague compliment. There was something off about him, something she couldn't quite place but certainly didn't trust - but there wasn't a single cat in the League she did trust and, either way, who was she to play her hand too early and spoil all this back-and-forth, side-to-side fun of theirs? "A humble observer, were you? Well! You'll be a rare breed indeed in the League. Ha! Listen to that - I'm a poet." Flicking her tail dismissively, she turned and leaped back up the tree trunk, scrabbling her way up to balance on the branch above his head once more. She loped along it with long, heavy steps, shoulders rolling jerkily as she watched Thanatos with a deep purr rumbling in her throat and her tail swishing slowly through the air. "Well? Are you going to tell me about your glorious travels or am I going to have to find someone else to bore me with their self-aggrandising tales of daring exploits and winning charm?"
