Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Here I am!" He responded with a squeal of delight, reaching his small paws over the top of the deputy's head to bat at his whiskers, before losing his grip and sliding down Doefreckle's back to the ground. Unfazed, he lept to his feet, wiggling as he watched the older tom. "You sure are nice, mister Doefreckle. I wish you had been my dad." He felt a little bad for criticizing his own father, though he had seen him all of two times in the three and a half months he'd lived in the League. But Doefreckle was just so fun.
[ genuinely doe is going to adopt quill and that is just the tea, and then when quill grows up he'll be this big fluffy lad and little doe will still be like "look at my tiny sweet son everyone look at my small baby i love my child whom i raised" ]
Doefreckle's playful gasp faltered at the kit's innocent confession, his wide grin softening into a thin smile that he hoped didn't look as sorrowful as he felt. He didn't really want to think about what a Primal Instinct father might have been like. No kit, he thought, should ever feel unloved, or unwanted, or unnecessary. Truth be told, his only... not regret, per say, but sadness about his lack of interest in she-cats was the certainty that he would never have kits of his own. He'd always preferred their company, so pure and honest, to the company of cats his own age. It also didn't help that he'd always acted far more like a kit than he'd ever acted like a warrior.
"Well," he replied after a moment, forcing a beaming grin; he snatched Quillkit closer with one forepaw and drew him into a hug, ruffling the fluffy fur on top of his head with his injured paw. "You're stuck with me now, lil' bun, dad or not."
Quillkit let out a happy brrap, pressing his small face into the warm fur of Doefreckle's chest. "You can be my Summerclan dad. No one else is as cool as you, so I'll have the coolest Summerclan in the whole wide world," he rambled brightly, letting his feet do another pitter-patter of energy on the hard dust earth. "And then I'll be cool because you'll teach me how to be cool."
Doefreckle purred happily, his heart feeling like it was filled with sunshine. "I think you're plenty cool on your own," he replied softly, "and— look!" A butterfly flitted above their heads, bright yellow and soft as air. "Get it!" He let go of Quillkit and reared up onto his hindlegs, swiping at the butterfly with his sheathed paws. "Quick, Quillkit - whoo, that's hard to say - quick, it's getting away!" He batted at the kit's shoulder gently with one paw before spinning in a quick little circle and chasing after the butterfly, springing into the air with every few steps.
"BUG!" Quillkit nearly screeched with excitement, a shiver of energy racking his body. Beetles, and now butterflies. How much better could this day get? He followed Doefreckle, his newly anointed- at least in Quillkit's mind- Summerclan dad, sprinting back and forth around the deputy. He tried jumping, but couldn't close the gap between his small paws and the honey-colored winged creature, so he simply followed Doefreckle's pursuit. "Don't hurt it! You gotta be careful with it when you get it."
Doefreckle burst into laughter at Quillkit's reaction, glancing over his shoulder to watch the kit leap into the air after the butterfly. "You're the bug expert!" he replied, doubling back to scoop Quillkit back onto his head between his ears. He went cross-eyed for a moment as he grinned up at him. "You get it! And hang on tight, I don't want another squished kit - it'd be the third one this week."
He looked around for a moment before spotting the butterfly fluttering about near the apprentice's den and chasing after it. "Hang on!" he chirped again, and reared up onto his back legs, staggering back and forth as he tried to both keep his balance and get Quillkit as close as he could to the butterfly. "Which way'd she go, cap'n?"
"Left! Left!" Quillkit shifted on Doefreckle's head, his small paw squishing down over one of the deputy's eye. In his excitement, the brown tabby tom didn't notice. "GO LEFT!" His intense desire to (gently) pin the butterfly by the wing and examine it was overwhelming, and he was staring at the bug without blinking.
