Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The feline had never been to DayClan territory just to be there. The only time that the two really spent much time together was when Glowstar came waltzing into her territory. Because of that, this seemed rather odd. She felt hints of anxiety with each footstep she took deeper into the clan. However, this was not because she feared DayClan. It was because she was weary. She had been in this side of the forest for a reason. Of course, the leader hadn't wandered all the way this way for a girl chat with her best friend. She would leave cross-territory travels to Glowstar. Rather, she was stopping on her way back from NightClan. She wasn't disappointed at all that she would have the convinence of stopping at her friend's domain, though. She was tired after a long day of wheeling and dealing, or really, a long day of debating slitting Burningstar's throat. However, in the end, the situation ended well. It had been decided that her brother would marry the leader of NightClan as a form of recompense, a spy among NightClan ranks. Still, the 'negotiating', if you could call it that, after a day's travel to the territory in the first place, left her tired. Stopping for a chat would, if nothing else, mean she could sit down for a while. Plus, the two had some catching up to do.
As she neared the DayClan camp, the crowned leader sighed. This would be the second camp she had barged into that day. So much for respecting borders.
As usual most DayClan cats just watched the complete stranger roam onto their territory. Ever so often there would be a DayClan warrior to actually demand to know what the cat was doing there, but not this time. DayClan wasn't just accustomed to strangers, they didn't fear them. They had the farmlands to hunt plenty of mice, occasionally being rewarded by the two-leg who lived there. Because DayClan allowed outsiders they had a few cats that knew how to fish and others who knew how to scavenge in city streets. They might not have everyone's favorite prey, but they almost always had something on the freshkill pile. There was simply no need to fear that someone would steal all their prey or the feeling they were unsafe.
"Kerrigan, the flower crown queen of BrookClan. I'm trembling in delight."
In the thick grounds of Speckled Fields Glowstar could not be seen, but soon she waved a paw, showing a trembling sensation, "See?"
Glowstar was lying on her back, staring up at the clouds without a care in the world. Leader of a clan with no lives in a barren field that could call victim to a hawk or an invader, yet she didn't seem concerned. Perhaps because Foxstar wasn't likely to barge in, Burningstar and her were friends and Wastedstar and her respected one another. There really wasn't much to naturally fear and even if there was, it wasn't likely to impact someone as chaotic as herself.
She found this an odd quality of DayClan. Even though BrookClan was often perfectly fine in terms of resources, the idea of her warriors being perfectly fine with cats just wandering in as they pleased. Even when it was just Glowstar, a feline that BrookClan cats were under direct orders not to attack, it seemed that most of them got a little unnerved when even she showed up. Kerrigan could barely fathom how many bodies wuld end up littering the territory if her own group had an open doors policy.
She jumped slightly at the voice of her friend, before sighing. Why didn't it surprise her that Glowstar was sitting pretty much directly under paw, out in the open? Glowstar had no concept of self-preservation, Kerrigan was slowly realizing, but she supposed that this was probably the best time for her to be this way. The forest was sort of calm, at least calmer than it had been. Of course, that would probably no longer be the case soon. Kerrigan could also taste the tension that pulsed through the clans.
"Maybe you should see a doctor about that. I promise you, I'm not that excited." She offered a half-smile, before shifting her weight. "May I sit?"
"Oh, no I just taught myself how to tremble on command," Glowstar shifted over for Kerrigan as if there wasn't enough room in this meadow for Kerrigan to sit down. Glowstar however remained lying down, but rolled over on her side to look at her friend "I thought it would be funny when Foxstar started yelling at me if I started trembling. I wonder if she'd believe it and let it feed her ego or tell me to knock it off," Glowstar said thoughtfully, a claw hanging off the corner of her lip curled into a deadly little smile.
She settled next to her friend, and for the briefest of moments, relief was the only thing that entered her gaze. It felt nice to take her weight off of her paws, if only for a few moments. It had been a long day, and if wild cats knew what baths were, it would have been the kind of day that would encourage Kerrigan to take a long, hot bubble bath. But, she was a cat, so she settled with just sitting down.
"I'm decently sure she is too smart to let it feed her ego," Kerrigan then meowed, her tone slightly bemused. "Although, it's an interesting thought experiment. You should try it out one of these days." It was then that Kerrigan noticed what was hanging out of her mouth, and the Tsar raised a brow. "Dare I ask?"
"I'm a Primal Instincts girl at heart," The claw moved to the motion of her jaw as her own claw dug the claw out from her mouth, "I love DayClan and their values are cute and endearing, but sometimes I have to let loose and give into those primal urges. They know who I am, but I'm a different cat in DayClan than I am elsewhere. So, sometimes me and the family will go out into the city for a killing spree. We used to do it all the time before I was found out to be Glowromance," She said her own warrior name as if it were a dirty word, "and then Quartet E'tani spared my life. Quite kind of her, honestly. But this little trophy was nice and smooth. Calming."
Her claws played with the victims claw, watching the light reflect off the ivory surface, "Yesterday was just one of those days I needed to let loose."
Glowstar flicked the claw across the field, "How's life been for you?"
She nodded along with the words that Glowstar said, as if any of them made sense in the order in which she said them. Kerrigan supposed that she had just given up on every being able to understand the cat. It was freeing, in the same way that admitting that you were going to fail a math test was freeing. You could accept it and move on.
"Well, a moon ago I drown to death. Have to say, not a fan." She meowed this, and a shudder ran down her spine. Since the incident, she had still been rendered unable to sleep properly. But, it was what it was, she supposed. One day, she would be able to look at water again without feeling it burn through her chest. "I'm declaring war on EarthClan tomorrow, which is going to be an experience. After all of this time, I've finally gotten my moment to make them regret everything they have done." What had they done? It wasn't really all that clear. Kerrigan just didn't like EarthClan. "Oh, and I almost murdered Burningstar when I went and saw her today. We were able to talk it out, though, so I'm arranging a political marriage between her and my brother to make up for the fact she stole kittens from me. Which, speaking of, you wouldn't happen to know anything about, would you?"
Her question was pointed, but other than that, everything else sounded very casual, especially being that she had discussed her own death, war, and contemplated murder. Maybe this was a sign she had been spending too much time with Glowstar.
Glowstar nodded along commenting, "Drowning is the worse," as if this were a common pain in her day to relate to. She stopped nodding when it came to EarthClan. Snap. What did EarthClan do? Muddystar was one of her spies. Now that he was gone she supposed she had no loyalties, buuuut. Did she in some way inadvertently harm BrookClan by assisting Muddystar? Kerrigan kept talking as she was in deep thought until hearing the word Burningstar and kill in the same sentence and Kerrigan could visibly see her claws unsheathe at the comment. Burningstar was one of her best friends and she had already threatened Burningstar's actual sister with death if she tried to injure Burningstar. Instead of touching the subject of kits however, Glowstar replied, "Oh an arranged marriage, how cute! My sissy Foxstar, was all like, "Yeeah, you're with Darkcomplex now." She's hil-arious. Was all convinced I was going to have kits with him. I was actually incredibly amused by it until I woke up not in my bed, but in SunClan kits and apparently I gave birth in my sleep. So. I guess their Dark's. Anyways, arranged marriages are just so weird, right? But cute too."
Without missing another breath, "But really, we should talk about that drowning thing, that sounds super serious. Was it an accident or did someone do that to you?"
Noting quickly that Glowstar was so fast to change the subject, her eyes narrowed. "You helped steal them, didn't you?" The accusation was technically a question, but it was stated as a fact. "You know that puts you on the List too, right? Not quite as high as, say, Muddystar was on the list, but pretty damn high." Her tail trashed as she took out a deep breath to try to calm herself before she beat up one of her closest friends, just on the principle of the matter. Another deep breath was taken, before she was able to concentrate on any of the other words that came out of her fellow leader's mouth.
Once she did, she realized that this was one of the times where she would have just been better off nodding and smiling at Glowstar. Letting the words go in one ear and out the other. Unfortunately for her, she realized that just a milisecond too late. "So, what you're telling me is, you birthed a litter in your sleep from a tom you don't remember being with, and you don't see a single problem with that?" Kerrigan made a mental note not to be surprised when Glowstar ended up dead, for real.
"Ha," she meowed after a moment, her tail trashing across the earth. "You think I'd let another cat drown me?" A glint passed through Kerrigan's eyes. Through time, she had gradually shifted from lawful neutral to lawful evil, but only in moments like this. "BrookClan flooded and I drown in a ripcurrent trying to see if it was safe for the group of cats that were stuck in my den with me to cross the rapids that surround my den. In case you're curious, it wasn't."
This time Glowstar took a breath, probably the first time she breathed this entire conversation given her normal ramblings, but quickly she was out of breath once more as in a single moment she shot up from lying down, sitting up right her eyes teared up with guilt, "I'm sorry! I didn't want to steal the kits from BrookClan. I told her I was totally cool with stealing the kits from somewhere else. At first they figured I could give them a kit, but I'm not able to have kits of my own. Or at least I thought? And then we couldn't steal kits from Forest Clans or else they'd see them and know for sure. Revolution Groups were off the table, they're kind of weird, trust me. But during that season not many queens were giving birth in a lot of clans, but... Yours were. If you want I can beat myself up," Glowstar said, unsheathing her own claws and bringing them up towards herself, "I know I betrayed you and it's been eating me up inside. I just hope there's a point in my pain where you can forgive me and we can be friends again. I don't blame you if you hate me Kerrigan. I'm honestly sorry, but if hurting me will in someway compensate just a eensy bit of it I'll take it. Just tell me where you want me to hurt and I'll do it."
There wasn't a look of defeat in Glowstar's eyes so much as the look of pure devotion. As if it were pure instinct that she needed to do anything in this world to make it up to Kerrigan. A cardinal sin that even someone like Glowstar knew not to break. Her unwavering gaze was like a sunset, it almost hurt to look into her sorry expression, but almost too beautiful of a moment to look away. For once, this was the conversation that threw Glowstar off her game.
She let out a sigh. Oh, great. Now she felt bad because Glowstar was obviously having some sort of moment over there. When expressing her dissapproval for the actual theft of actual BrookClan kittens, she hadn't expected whatever had just happened to happen. She couldn't remember a time where she even thought that there was the smallest chance that the DayClan leader would even tear up, yet there they were. And she was threatening to hurt herself if that's what Kerrigan wanted. Quite frankly, it wasn't. Quite frankly, it probably took a few months off of her life that Glowstar was so willing to do so.
This left her in a very strange spot. On one hand, she had every right to be pissed off and more. What kind of monster thought it was a good idea to steal kittens? Didn't DayClan have some of their own that could have been donated to the cause? (Whatever the cause was; Kerrigan still wasn't the most clear on that.) On the other hand, this was not the solution that she had in mind. That damned look in her eye was particularly offensive to Kerrigan in that moment. After all, everyone knew that Kerrigan was at least a little gay for her not-gay friend, and the look on her face was beautiful, if tragically and unfortunately so.
"Hey, now, come one. You don't have to do that," she responded, her stress level semi-apparent in her voice. "As much as I want to punch you in the face, and trust me, I really do, it's not really necessary. I'm not not your friend, okay? I'm just a friend that sort of wants to set your entire clan on fire. You're just lucky that rumor has it you stole Springlockedgrave's kittens. If they had been like, my sisters, or anyone other than the crazy medicine cat's, I might have had to set your entire clan on fire. But it wasn't, so we can just move on, right? You can make it up to me by feeding me and letting me stay in DayClan tonight, alright?"
"L-Like a sleepover," She said, rubbing her eyes, excitement growing in her voice, "We could sleep in the walls of camp or in the tree, I have to make a nest for us, I don't have one... I guess we can pick up supplies. I think moss and branches are typical nesting materials. Or you can just have the nest to yourself if you want, I slept on the floor most of my life so it's just more normal for me. And I'll get you apples or um. Oh wait you like fish, cause you're in BrookClan. Yes! I can totally catch us fish. We could head to the pond now if you want to get some fresh fish. In DayClan, getting to water is a bit of a walk, but we're actually close by."
Glowstar sheathed her claws once more and placed them away from herself. Her breathless warmth was practically tangible, her soft voice could send beloved shivers down anyone's spine. She opened her mouth to say something, but decided she had talked a lot already and to give Kerrigan a chance to reply to one thing at a time... At least for now she decided that.
As soon as the she-cat started talking, Kerrigan decided she had made a mistake in even offering. Oh well, it was too late now to backtrack- she was afraid Glowstar would cry if she did. "Like a sleepover," she meowed, in the kind of tone used when someone's mom forces them to take their younger sibling to the movies with them in order to get the keys to the car. Sort of exsasperated. However, she tried to tell herself, this couldn't be all bad, right?
"The last time we spent time in a tree, I broke four ribs, so that one is a negative," she then replied with a cringe. She could fee the ghosts of broken bones in her sides. That had been a mess. "As for nesting materials, as long as there's something between me and the ground, I'll be fine. I get cold." She said this last part kind of sheepishly. It was true, though. Kerrigan didn't sleep alone most nights for that exact reason. Cynder had been the lucky cat to mostly move in with her in the Tsar's den, and unless her former kadet was out galavanting, it was she who got the honors of sharing a nest with the Tsar. It was sort of a childish thing, for Kerrigan to need that sort of company while she slept, but she blamed it on being cold blooded and not on the loneliness that often settled in her chest.
"You'll get me a what now?" she then asked, in reference to apples. Were they a sort of small mammal ? "Fish sounds fine. I'm surprised you know how to fish, honestly. Most don't."
Glowstar nodded, they would need the best nesting materials. Moss from the creekiest creek. Petals grown on the highest peak of the mountain so the cold would preserve their softness, feathers that were aged like a fine grape transforming into a rasin so they would be at their prime fluffiness. And of course sticks grown from a tree of gold, "Don't worry, I'll make us the best nest." She reassured so her friend wouldn't go into a flashback about breaking all her limbs. Or at least when she watched Kerrigan fall that's what she envisioned. She shuffled her paws almost anxiously.
Her head rose in the direction of the stream as she headed for it, "Yeah, I've always loved the water. In Primal Instincts I loved diving into the swamp and catching water snakes. They were the best, you'd slit them open and they'd have all this extra prey in them. But I actually learned to catch fish in WaterClan. As an assassin I was assigned to assassinate Crescentstar, my first kill," She said memorized, "And someday I'll tell you about how I killed a God! But for now we're here."
The stream along DayClan wasn't too impressive, by no means was it big, but their pond further down was definitely big enough. There appeared to be a lot of fish in this stream, probably because most DayClan cats didn't know how to fish. A few did thanks to cats like Eternallaughter who were from WaterClan teaching other cats how to. But when they did it was often for the soothing enjoyment that came with it.
"Did you just say they had extra... You know what? I know better than to even question it," she decide half way through the sentence. The idea of eating a prey with prey on the inside really made her want to puke, and the nausea was probably clear in her gaze. Come on, Kerrigan. Just move on. Just move on about the killing a god, while you're at it.
She looked at the water, and the Tsar felt her heartbeat rise in her throat for a moment. She then forced herself to calm almost immediately. There was no reason to get panicked. Obviously, Glowstar wouldn't let her drown, and the circumstance with this was a lot different than the day that she day she died. It was a small stream, after all. She could probably walk to the center and have it not go deeper than her chest.
"This is cozy," she meowed, looking down at the water. She sat by the edge, her gaze focused on the fish that swam around. "As a note, though, I'm pretty sure I probably don't want to know about the time you killed a God. There's a lot going on in that statement and I think maybe it's best if I just... don't know."
She then sighed, her tail flicking. "What exactly do cats ... do ... at sleepovers?" she asked, although she was half-concentrated on a fish she had every intention of catching. "What have I signed myself up for?"
Glowstar stood at the shore of the silvery stream. Her shadow cast opposite from it.
"Don't want to know because you're a demi Goddess yourself?" Glowstar asked, a smile playing at her lips.
Her claws unsheathed as she flicked her gaze to Kerrigan before returning it back to the waters. She had spied the same fish, but didn't catch it knowing her friend wanted to, "We tell stories, talk about gossip, cats we crush on, and share secrets. We'll usually be snuggled up in the best fort we can make. Foxstar's a great decorator so when I sleepover with her she goes all out. Sometimes at a sleepover we'll go out into the city or just take a walk. Of course most sleepovers are because I'm a prisoner or someone pities me enough to hangout with me for a night. So I guess this is my first real sleepover," She purred.
"Must you torture me, Glowstar?" she meowed with a flick of her tail, before her paw reached into the water and stabbed the fish. She retracted her paw and the creature was then flopping on the earth next to her. She made no move to make the final kill, though. It would flop for a few moments before it would die, and either way it would be more tender. "You have got to know by now that you can't make such comments or you'll seduce me." This was said as a half-purr, half-tease, but there might be some truth in it. As one of the forests biggest lesbians, Kerrigan understood the struggle of the delicate balance of friend-feelings and romantic-feelings. Sometimes, she walked a little too closely the line with her beautiful friend.
The fish flopped a few more times as she considered everything else the DayClan leader had said. "At least you're treated well when you're a prisoner?" she meowed, although her tone seemed unsure of the fact. No prisoner of BrookClan's would be treated kindly, except maybe Glowstar. But, would there ever really be a reason to take Glowstar as a prisoner? Inevitably, yes.
"It is mine as well," she meowed with a flick of her tail. "Although I'm not really sure I have much gossip for you. And my romantic life is kind of pathetic so there's not a whole lot to talk about there. My biggest secret is that I didn't pray over my meal yesterday morning and the fact that I'm covering up a murder. Maybe you'll have to do most of the talking." She smiled a genuine smile, before the fish flopped its last. "I'm sure whatever we do will be good, though, if by good I mean I'll probably end up stuck in another cage somewhere or being attacked by cultists, but hey, it'll be some excitement, right?"
She broke into a laughter that was as sweet as chimes, "Seduce you?" She seemed almost surprised, but maybe even she recognized she was a walking disaster in Kerrigan's life and couldn't imagine how she could like someone who watched her fall out of a tree and got them stuck in two-leg place. She fished a small minnow out from the stream and remarkably or not too remarkably she ate it instead of bringing it back to camp. It was pretty small though, it would have been hard for anyone to know it was even sitting in the fresh kill pile so perhaps the crime wasn't too high, "Yes, I'm always treated well when I'm imprisoned. Except in Renegade Regime. But perhaps what I consider kind is rather lenient. I suppose the goal of imprisoning someone matters. In WinterClan I told them I wanted to be imprisoned and for them to do their worse, but instead I just had a sleepover with their prison guard. And in SunClan Foxstar just wanted me to have values which apparently I do cause I passed because the sunflower caught on fire. Does that freak you out? That their land is so flammable that sunflowers spontaneously catch on fire? Well anyways I'd be delighted to tell you some of my secrets to make up for any lack of yours."
Glowstar walked partially into the stream. Standing completely still she watched as after a few moments of stillness the fish slowly fish swam by her. Glow was waiting for bigger fish though and allowed the smaller ones to pass, "Oh, or truth or dare. Since I already said I'd share a secret I will though. Ummm, my mom was a healer and so was my mate, Rake, but I only know the deadly herbs he used."
She raised a brow at how entertained the thought of seducing the Tsar seemed to leave Glowstar. Of course, there was some good reasons why this might be true. Any time the two of them were in the same general area, something bad seemed to happen. A cat who was as good at self-preservation as Kerrigan was should have figured out by now that it was not sustainable to continue to communicate with the cat. It would kill her eventually- it probably had killed her. (The days post the fall where she should have broken her neck were still kind of fuzzy, so she didn't know if she was at 7 or 8 lives as they stood here.)
The Tsar didn't even notice the supposed crime the leader had committed. In BrookClan, there was no such thing as a fresh kill pile, at least not normally. The Monarchy believed in survival of only the fittest, and if the fittest wanted to survive, they needed to hunt for themselves. This meant that each family took care of their own and only their own, unless the circumstances were a little different than what normally occurred.
"You told someone you wanted to be imprisoned?" she asked after a moment, trying to restrain herself from sighing. "That sounds like an incredible idea. Especially in clans that are a little more... morally grey than others." She flicked her tail. BrookClan had a habit of not taking very many prisoners, but when they did, the prisoners seldom got a chance to speak about their experience. "As for SunClan, BrookClan is far enough away that the entire forest could catch on fire and although I would feel badly for you, I would be completely unaffected. So, I suppose that, no, it doesn't. Now if EarthClan's territory spontaneously caught on fire, that would be another reason to eradicate the group as a whole. Then I would care."
"Truth or dare is probably not the game to be playing with you out of all cats, but I suppose that would be okay. The perfect combination of doing self-sabatoging physical activities and sharing our deepest secrets with each other." She flicked her tail. "Oh, yeah? What's a deadly herb off of the top of your head?" she meowed after a moment. That could be helpful information.
"herbs aren't as useful, I prefer just dangerous plants such as apple seeds and lily flowers. Those are both plants that only certain clans are familiar with their bad side effects. For instance you are probably familiar with the deadly lily flower because they grow around water. Most other clans would not know this. It's why poison should be chosen to match the person. Everyone has their own personal poison that they'll never know they're vulnerable too until they have it. Maybe someday I'll taste mine," Glowstar wondered before smiling back at Kerrigan, "Truth or dare?"
