Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
He lurched toward the ground, falling into a crouch in front of her. He wasn't sure what else to do, but when he looked up, he got an idea. He stepped in again, closing that little bit of distance, than threw his head up to knock it against her jaw.
When Sootpaw's head shot up into her chin it startled the leader even more and her teeth clacked together painfully. Shaking her head to clear the brief pain, Frostcloud glowered at her apprentice for a moment before backing away a few steps and lashing out with a paw a knocked him on the shoulder with a sheathed paw, hard enough to sting a little but not so much that it would bruise. "Keep up your guard, don't always attack." she said.
It hurt him more than he had expected, and the tom shook his head, stunned. Her attack knocked the unsuspecting apprentice to the side and he stumbled, nearly falling to the group. Sootpaw yipped in surprise, then shot her a petulant glare. "You didn't tell me to guard," he muttered under his breath as he turned to face her again.
Frostcloud felt a little bad that she had sent the tom tumbling so hard, she hadn't meant to hit him that hard, and in all honestly she hadn't. "That's common sense if you are fighting someone." she said. "Do you really think that if you get into a fight with an actual enemy that they're just going to stand there and let them attack you?" she asked.
"They won't." she stated calmly. "Battle isn't all about fighting, you also have to learn how to defend yourself from your enemy's attacks, otherwise you can easily get badly injured or killed."
"Right. Now, should I attack you again, or-" he cut himself off sharply as he lunged at her, trying to take her by surprise. His forepaws reached out to try and grab her by the shoulder and hoist himself up to snap at her ears.
Frostcloud wasn't quite as startled this time when he launched the attack in the middle of a question."It's a good idea to try and distract your opponent in some way especially if they are larger or more experienced but remember that it might not always work." she warned him. She had seen the tom shift his weight just before he launched his attack and she merely shifted her body weight and lowered one shoulder so that his momentum left him crashing chest first right into her, probably knocking the wind from the tom.
Sootpaw grunted in frustration as she predicted his attack and he slammed into her, his breath abruptly stolen from his lungs. He coughed as he dropped to the ground and lay there gasping for a moment, his paws shaking a little as he rose back to his paws. "Not... fair."
"Like I said you'll come across larger and more experienced opponents who will be happy to take on the nearest apprentice as the easy target versus a fully trained warrior who could put up a better fight." Frostcloud said. She gave him time to catch his breath. "You can't just throw yourself at an opponent hoping to always catch them off guard, you might get lucky at times and indeed catch them off guard but right now your broadcasting your moves without thinking about it which means any cat that can read body language as open as yours will be able to predict what you're about to attack with.
"Its not fair," he repeated bitterly. "How am I supposed to get better or learn any of that if yo won't let me fight you right? You're acting like I'm a warrior already! This isn't helping, you're just telling me I'm doing bad at everything."
