Spiderfang dipped his head to his new apprentice, as they waited on Goldenpaw to arrive. He and Umbrapaw rather resembled one another, though his own body had become more sleek and well toned through his training. "Hello Umbrapaw" he greeted
Umbrapaw was disappointed that he hadn't been assigned his idle, Squirrelleap, to be his mentor but he supposed that Spiderfang wouldn't be too bad. He hadn't met Goldenpaw, yet. He mostly kept to himself or to his siblings. Mingling wasn't much of his style. The growing black tom, took a step toward Spiderfang, muscles already toning on the young tom. He was going to be a big and strong warrior. It was obvious by the way he was already building.

Goldenpaw approached the two cats with a soft smile on his maw. He greeted both of them with a nod then flicked his ears curiously. "What are we doing today?" He asked with a small tilt of his head. He was a friendly, kind tom but he did not know the two of them that well.
Spiderfang dipped his head to his new apprentice, as they waited on Goldenpaw to arrive. He and Umbrapaw rather resembled one another, though his own body had become more sleek and well toned through his training. "Hello Umbrapaw" he greeted As Goldenpaw appraoched, he also dipped his head. "Today I thought we could start with some sparring, that way I can get an idea of both your abilities and chemistry"
"Hello" he greeted back, a polite dip of his head. He then nodded at his mentors plan for them. That seemed reasonable and understandable. "Im ready when you are," the orphan tom stated.
"First we should move out of camp, less we get some angry elders on our tails" he chuckled motioning for the two cats to follow. They didn't go to far, but far enough that their voices wouldn't be heard easily from the clan's temporary camp.
"This shall be where we start. First let's set some rules. I don't want either of you injured on your first day. Claws stay sheathed, and do not bite down hard on your opponent. To make it more interesting, we will do something that I did with my training partner" he paused turning and pulling out some strawberries and blueberries "One of you will put strawberry juices on their paws, and the other will put blueberries. Each time you manage to strike your opponent, you will leave a visual record of that. It's a little messy, but will make it easier to judge the winner in the end" not to mention most cat's didn't like being sticky, so it searved as a good incentive to avoid your opponent.
"Other than that have fun, and show me what you are made of. You may begin"
That was genius. Never would Umbrapaw think of that. However, he didn't quite think for himself anyway. He was usually just the littermate with the good looks. "Goldenpaw, are you ready?" he asked, turning to his opponent.

Goldenpaw gave a little chuckle. That plan certainly sounded interesting and fun! He glanced over at Umbrapaw and smiled, a determined gleam in his eye. "Yeah! I am definitely ready!" He purred excitedly.

Goldenpaw dipped his paws in then faced Umbrapaw with a grin. He began his move by circling the she-cat, hoping to throw her off. At least, that is what he saw the other apprentices do.
Umbrapaw circled Goldenpaw, trying to think of his first move. He didn't have a lot of training but he had seen some of the apprentices training in camp when he was a kit. He had picked up a few moves. He lunged forward, appearing to be heading straight for Goldenpaw but instead, he veered to the side and ran his paw along his appontent's side, his claws sheathed so he didnt injure the other apprentice. However, although his plan was clever, he hadnt had much practice and nearly lost his balance when he lifted his paw to run it along Goldenpaw's side.
(Omg! Why did I say he was a female? Omg! I must have been half asleep when I wrote that! I meant that he wasn't a female XD omg! I'm a dummy! Its a boy!)

Goldenpaw's eyes widened in shock as Umbrapaw managed to trick him, and he held back a little chuckle of surprise. "That was good!" He meowed cheerily then used the other apprentice's lack of balance to his advantage. The bobtail tom spun around on his paws and shoved his shoulder in Umbrapaw's side to knock him over.
Umbrapaw let out a small yelp in surprise as Goldenpaw knocked him over, usuing his lack of balance to his advantage. The all black tom rose to his paws and shook the dirt from his fur. "Wow, Goldenpaw. I wasnt expecting that!" He stood square this time, making sure he was balanced before darting under and using his body to knock Goldenpaw's paws out from under him.
Well at least they were good sports, but their friendliness could also be a hinderance. Cats with true rivalries tended to push each other farther than friends. "Remember your forms" he reminded them. Although the pair seemed to be rather creative in their attacks thus far, they were sloppy leaving lots of openings for counter attacks "if you were fighting a real enemy they would have sliced both of you open by now. Always protect your vitals"
Umbrapaw stood up, "but we aren't rivals. We are clanmates and we are just training." He didn't want to hurt Goldenpaw nor make him think he wanted to.
"Yes that is why we are using painted paws to mark where you have been hit instead of blood" he paused, eyes narrowing on both of them. "This is just a training match, but if you allow yourself to get sloppy here, then you will be sloppy on the battlefield. A mistake here simply means you get a little dirty, in a real battle each of those marks could have meant your death"
