Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Flawedperspective couldn’t believe it. Her an apprentice? Was this really happening? Her own mother, the High Priestess, called her a failure. Even named her Flawedperspective for Sun God’s sake!! But here she was, waiting by the entrance to camp for her apprentice, hers!
Flawedperspective? Really? Frostedpaw let out a huff as he made his way out of camp. Why had he been apprenticed to her? He would rather anyone else. The white tom stretched on his way out of the apprentices den, feeling his joints crack with the night’s stiffness. He would have been rather excited about his first day of training, but he now thought it kind of ruined. Frostedpaw made his way to the camp entrance to meet his mentor. His tail lashed as he caught her eye.
“So, what are you going to try and teach me?” He rolled his eyes. The thick-furred apprentice took a seat and ran his tongue over his paws, giving off an exaggerated air of boredom.
Teach? What was she going to teach? Dear Sun God! She ya son idea! She’d been a failure herself as an apprentice. All she did now as a warrior was tend to the graveyard as it’s sole caretaker and attempt to hunt. “Umm....” Flawedperspective has no idea what she was doing! Maybe they could clean the graveyard, give it new flowers. She’d yet to fulfill that task of hers today and it was all she knew how to do well. But no apprentice wanted to do that task. It was why this task was given to her after she’d made it clear she enjoyed it, and after the other apprentices had started complaining more and more . That and she enjoyed it.
“You should have at least thought about our first lesson.” He snapped. “I don’t know, why don’t we do fighting skills or something?” The white tom was annoyed, to say the least. “I might as well train you.” He joked, but it was mean-spirited more than anything. He had wanted someone cool, someone who actually knew what they were doing. Frostedpaw turned towards the waiting territory and took off, not even sparing a glance behind him. He’d go and explore the territory, give Flawedperspective time to figure out what she was doing. “It’s like she’s only got half a brain.” He said to himself, but loud enough that if Flawedperspective was anywhere near she’d be able to hear.
She heard every word, and each one crushed her poor heart more. For a moment after recieving the news that she'd be mentoring an apprentice, she'd been exstatic! Happy beyoud belief! And like everything else, it was crushed once again, by herself and her own apprentice. Flawedperpsective knew she wasn't mentor material, but she thought she coul at least try. Maybe she should go to mother and tell her Frostpaw needed someone else. Indigosight had told her time and again before this day that she could do. and now she'd already failed before it had begun.
But she couldn't leave the apprentice out there by himself, who knew what he'd find. Knowing her luck, it'd be a fox, or he'd cross into another's territory, or...or Something! Quickly, on clusmy paws, she scrambled after the tom. Eyes peeled for any signs of him.
Frostedpaw knew he shouldn’t be so mean, and the smallest inkling if guilt trembled in his stomach. He ignored it and continued on his way. But, something made his paws stop in their tracks. Without thinking, he turned, and made a steady path towards his mentor. He was angry, unreasonably so. Angry at himself for doing this and feeling guilty about it, angry that he was apprenticed to Flawedperspective. But, he’d give her a chance.
He followed his own scent back to where he started, and then went on to his mentors. “Hey!” He called. “Where are you? We can—uhm—start with hunting? Or battle training?”
Tears had filled her eyes, at her own disappointment and failure. SHe'd truly been named well; a flaw in their system and a failure at that. She couldn't even keep track of one apprentice. Quickly into her search for him, she'd lost track of his scent. Flawedperspective wonder aimlessly for a moment before she heard someone call out. Sniffling, she shook her head to clear the tears and turned to face whoever had called out. Seeing Frostpaw, she pulled herself in small; tail curled tight around herself, one leg crossed over the other, eyes down, face to the side and unwilling to look up. By all means, she looked scared, afraid and ashamed. "If..if you would like to." Fighting wouldn't be such a good idea right now, mostly because she had no idea how she'd teach that. "How..how..well, we can..umm, hunt?"
"Sure." Frostedpaw stalked after his new mentor. She seemed a mess. Frostedpaw still had no idea why she was chosen to mentor, no less him, who had been rowdy and aggressive throughout his youth. "Lead the way, I guess."

(You're good, I lost the thread somehow)
Flawperspective tried to be discrete as she wiped away her tears, but she probably failed at that too. Nearly tripping over a tree root on their way, she made her way through the forest towards the graveyard area. While it was disrespectful to hunt within its confines, around the graveyard had some good prey. Mostly mice and shrews, but a few birds would land on the barren ground every once in a while. "this..this should be good..i think." She whispered that last part, glancing around and not spotting much within the underbrush.
The white tom was a step behind Flawedperspective, his amber gaze cutting into her. He didn't know what to think of her, yet at the same time, he did. Maybe he should give her a chance, be a little nicer, but he barely knew her. He didn't want to be all sunshine and rainbows around a cat he's never really talked to before. He would be more open that way, he always was, and he hated being open about things. Just because she was his mentor, did not mean that she would be his friend.
"Yeah." He agreed quietly. A scent hit his nose, one he smelled when prey was brought back to camp. It was fresher. Alive. "Is that . . . mouse? Or . . .?" Every prey had it's own distinct scent, he knew that, but he could barely recognize them. They had always been muddled together, their scents swarming around in a mess. He gazed at Flawedperspective, contemplating if he should ask her what to do. He decided against it. There's nothing he doesn't know that she does, he would be fine.
The tom got into a crouch, messy at best, and stepped towards the scent. A rustling caught his ear and his tail flickered in excitement. He saw movement, and immediately his muscles bunched and before he knew it he had leaped. He landed, tripped over his paws, and fell forwards. His pelt burned hot in embarrassment as he got to his paws. His fur, especially his chest, was covered in the dirt he had collected as he fell.
"Just bad luck, I'll get the next one." He mumbled and shook out his thick fur. He would do it. Eventually.
"You'll get it next time." FLawedperspective grimaced when he'd missed, even flinched back with her ears down at the tumble he took. SHe knew how that felt, but she wasn't sure what else to say to him. Encourage him? Her own mentor hadn't done that so maybe not? Maybe she needed to correct his form, but how?. At least, she didn't think he was. "You..you need to make your crouch better. It's a little....well messy." She didn't want to offend him, or run him off again, so she spoke quietly and with an apologetic tone. "And..and be more patient. That's important." Her eyes darted between him and the dirt and her paws, face a little red from embarrassment for him.
He huffed indignantly but said nothing for a bit. He did, in fact, store her advice to memory. His sharp amber eyes scanned her, read her. Why was she embarrassed? She didn't fail trying to catch a simple bird. "Yes, I will. I don't need you to tell me." He sat and ran his tongue through his dirty fur, his tail lashing in annoyance. Annoyance at himself, mostly. After a few moments he got to his paws again and walked off. "I'm going to catch something else."
Frostedpaw sniffed the air, excitement buzzing throughout him as the different scents of the world around him filled his nose and mouth. He felt free. A scent caught his attention, it smelled like a mouse, maybe, but he wasn't completely sure. He followed it, slowly, cautiously, until he heard minuscule movements somewhere in the grass. He crouched, catching sight of a small grey-brown body with a slim, naked tail. The pure white apprentice stalked forwards, reminded himself to be patient. Relax. And he did. Frostedpaw got a little closer, waited a few heartbeats, and leaped. Of course, his crouch was far from perfect and his leap was clumsy, but he managed to snag the little critter and kill it was a bite.
"Wonderful! Great job, Frostedpaw!" Oh, he'd done so wonderfully for only his second tie and if Flawedperspective had hands she'd be clapping in applause for the young apprentice. "Already you've done better than I did at your age." Really it wouldn't be hard to do so but still. She planned to give all the praise she could in hopes that he turned out better than she had, that he had some confidence in his abilities. "Did you know what it was beforehand? It's important to have an idea because different prey requires different techniques. Like squirrels aren't as quick to run off as mice are or birds require you to be able to jump pretty good least they take to the air before you get close enough to get them on the ground." For someone who wasn't very good at hunting herself, she at least knew what she was doing and could explain it, somewhat.
He accepted the praise with a confident smile, which didn't rub off until she started to explain the different needs and skills for different prey. He took the advice and stored it, adding hid own two cents as well. Maybe, just maybe, she did know what she was doing.
"Can I have a tour of the territory? I wanna know my way around." The territory, to him, was still new and undiscovered, especially since his sense of direction wasn't the best unless he got to know the place.
“Oh! Well...I..we should have...I suppose we should have started there. But hunting is important too!” She rambled on, rubbing her front paw against her other leg in nervousness. Flawedperspective quickly rose to her paws. “Yes, let’s go this way then and start there.” They’d cover the outsides of the territory first and then work their way back in.
Frostedpaw sniffed cockily. He was just walking all over her, wasn't he? A pinprick of guilt formed in his stomach, but he ignored it. He followed her, his paws buzzing with excitement even though he projected boredom. He really couldn't wait to see the territory. "Just don't get lost." He quipped teasingly. "And let's hurry this up, I'm kinda hungry."
Lost...okay she could manage that. Flawedperspective constantly checked her shoulder, making sure he was still there behind her. “Here’s our border with MoonClan. They’re probably the nicest.” She tried to think of something else to say as she looked over the border. “Oh, I met Grandsky and Devilhorns at the last gathering! They’re real nice cats from MoonClan.”
“Wow. Interesting.” He said, sarcasm dripping from ever word. He was padding slowly behind her, his tail lashing, before he sped up and away from the MoonClan border. Of course, he made sure to take in their scent beforehand. “What’s over here? Where is the NightClan border? Or the DayClan border?” He asked, padding ahead. But, he still stayed close, not wanting to get lost this time. He almost forgot to be rude he was so busy admiring the territory.
(Has to go look at the old clan maps because had no clue!!)
Flawedperspective was startled by his ethusithism, and the fact that it hadn't come across as rude. The other clans' borders? Okay, okay, they could do that. Um, right, "NightClan is this way. If..if you'd like to look at it?" She pointed with her paw behind them. "Or..or we can..well, DayClan is the other way...." They probably shouldn't have started with the border straight across from their own territory. Now they'd need to walk full circle to see the other two. You're so stupid, Flawedperspective!
He shook his head, forgetting for a moment about his tack-on attitude. “I don’t know, sure, let’s go to NightClan.” He wandered off into what he presumed was NightClan. “Let’s do something interesting! Like battle training.” He rolled his eyes. His mentor was really getting on his nerves.
