Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Eternalstar moved towards the border of Fallclan, going to see her sister clan, or what one might consider her sister clan. She heard rumors that they too had a new leader just as Springclan had. Though she imagined their situation was a bit more stable, not having just escaped a prison. Having not had a virtual stranger waltz in and take the position seemingly right from the current deputies paws. Springclan cats still weren't sure exavtly how it had come to pass for Eternalstar to become leader instead of Cardinalheart and neither of them were shedding light on the situation. As she reached the border she paused, waiting. Needing to get in touch with the new leader of Fallclan.
Fortune seemed to smile on Eternalstar that day, as Scatteredstar had gone out for a solitary walk, checking over their territory and seeing if she could get any ideas for defense from their new neighbors. She hadn't gone far when she picked up SpringClan scent. It was still a new scent to her, one she'd only smelled wafting over the border till now. She hurried her pace and found the other cat waiting at the border. "Hello?" She mewed cautiously. "What are you doing on our border?" The cat seemed to be alone, but Scatteredstar found her claws sliding out instinctually. Her Clan was not well established enough to weather an attack right yet.
Eternalstar blinked at the pretty orange and white tabby, admiring her bright eyes for a moment before she cut to the chase. "I'm Eternalstar." She greeted, knowing the other had probably never heard her name before. But also knowing Scatteredstar would be able to piece together she was the new leader of Sprinclan by her name and scent alone. No need for her to spell it out for the other and belittle her intelligence. "Is there somewhere we could go to talk more privately? I would hate to be interrupted by either of our patrols." It was late yes, and she knew she had no patrols that would be one this border, but she had no idea about Fallclan and had no desire to risk it.
Her tail flicked nervously. Another leader? What could she possibly want? An ambush? No scent of other cats... Even if she could trust this visitor, there was no way she could risk this cat seeing how weak FallClan still was... They'd have to talk elsewhere. "Might I ask the nature of your visit beforehand?" She queried, hoping to buy herself time to think.
Soft tinkling bell like laughter rolled out into the air as Eternalstar nodded through her small laugh. "Sorry sometimes I get ahead of myself is all." She shook her head in apology before she rolled her shoulders, thinking of the best way to approach the topic without seeming desperate. "I don't know if you know, but Springclan only just recently got out of a... tough spot so to say. I would like to prevent that from happening again so I thought I could approach you about an alliance of sorts."
Her ear flicked in surprise. So they weren't in the best place either... "Okay, I think I know a good place to talk, if you'll follow me." She turned and flicked her tail for Eternalstar to follow.
Pushing forward the sleek she-cat followed the longer furred leader, shorter in stature, taking after her fathers small size she wondered about the outcome of a potential fight. Not that she thought they would fight it was just something Eternalstar often found herself contemplating; her chances in a fight that is. "I must say, I was rather lucky running into you. Thinking back maybe I should have had a better plan to doing this."
Scatteredstar shrugged her powerful shoulders. "A patrol would have found you eventually and brought you to me if I hadn't. Short of trespassing, I don't see what more you could have done." She remarked amiably. While the whole situation was still a bit unnerving, Scatteredstar had decided that the possibility of an alliance was too great an advantage to pass up. Eventually, they reached an overhanging ridge that would keep them fairly well hidden from prying eyes and she turned to the other leader. "Will this work for you?" She asked.
Glancing around Eternalstar nodded shortly and moved a little deeper under the overhang before turning to the other leader. "Let me be frank, right now there is not much Springclan can offer you. We are still recovering from time spent as prisoners of war within Sunclan. What I can say is that we will stand by you in a fight against, most likely, the red lionesses. But should another clan or group go against you we will aide you. After we regain our strength once more of-course, which should be attainable in a couple moons." Pausing she sighed and looked up, before deciding to forge on with the next thing she wanted to say. "Once we are on our feet maybe we can work out some more benefits this alliance could provide us with?"
Scatteredstar felt her heart softening as Eternalstar described SpringClan's woes. "Honestly, we're not in the best place ourselves. Our Clan was nearly destroyed, and our return was only by the will of StarClan. However, while we may not be in the best place either, unity could indeed be our savior..." She paused thoughtfully. "At the very least while we both recover, or as long as such threats continue to plague us."
"Those were my thoughts." She agreed watching the other leader considerably, her mind caught on the comment about Starclan. "Did Starclan give a sign then for your leadership?" Eternalstar wanted to hear more about it, considering right now she was parading the guise that she herself had been appointed by Starclan to her clan. To appease those questioning why Eternalstar was promoted to leader when Cardinalheart had been deputy; when Eternalstar had been away for moon and moons. If learning something about Starclans signs from Scatteredstar could help her prolong it she would gratefully press for info.
"I was just curious how you knew?" Eternalstar asked keeping her tone flippant and simply curious. "Was there a feeling? Or was it just such an obvious sign there was no mistaking it's intention. I just wonder. We didn't get a sign, though there are some that think we should have been looked upon by Starclan after what we suffered through." She knew there was no one outside of Springclan who knew of the questionable way she became leader, after all half those in Springclan didn't question it.
She thought for a moment. "It was a dream." she said finally. StarClan speaks most often through metaphors and symbols. Sometimes their intent is clear, but very rarely. Often, the meaning of their prophecies aren't apparent for what they are until they've already come to pass."
Eternalstar nodded slowly, "As a show of goodwill is there anything I can help you with or consult with you about to show Springclan's good intentions in this new partnership." While they still hadn't ironed out details Eternalstar wanted to preemptively show goodwill. Things would be smoother in the future if she set herself up now as one who only wanted to help and do their best to further everyone's goals.
Scatteredstar remained silent for a long moment. It felt nice to be able to talk with another who shared the same responsibilities. And now that she was sure of the other she-cat's intentions, it took a good deal of effort not to disclose all the troubles and fears that had played her since she had taken the mantle of leader. "Not... at the moment. For now, the knowledge that we've someone else on our side is more than enough. What about you? Is there anything we can do for you?"
"Like you right now I don't need much. Maybe just someone to talk too." She hummed, appealing to the others seemingly friendly nature. "Maybe we could meet once a moon. It's nice not to have to pretend to have everything figured out. Sometimes I feel as if my clanmates expect me to know the future and forget that despite my extra lives I am no more omnipotent than the rest of them." Her tone was light, almost teasing. Though hidden behind that was some bitter truth.
Scatteredstar gave her companion a long look. Something felt just the teensiest bit wrong... but who else could she really turn to? She cared greatly for her Clanmates, but she hadn't been properly close to anyone since her parents died. "I think we could both use that." She replied carefully then went on more casually. "Life can be unpredictable and cruel as it is, but as leader, you can't just blame tragedy on life. If something goes wrong, a leader must live with the fact that they were likely at fault..." She went silent for a moment, golden-amber eyes staring at nothing. With a twitch of her tail she returned to herself. "My apologies. There's no need for such dire talk."
'Likely at fault' the comment made Eternalstar realize how different Scatteredstar and herself truly were. Eternalstar would not look at a situation where something went wrong and immediately assume anything she did had anything to do with with it. In fact the first steps she would take would be to figure out a way to present the situation in a light that made her look uninvolved or to take it as an opportunity to swoop in like a hero. "Your right. Lets talk of nicer things. I can proudly say that Springclan has started getting an influx of kits again, I was worried after are time prisoner with Sunclan."
