Juniperwater stood just outside the medicine cats den her eyes wide and her jaw slightly gaped in wonder. Or perhaps like a cat who had just seen a ghost.
"You okay Juni?" Suedesplash, her brother, asked. She had mentioned to him earlier that she hadn't been feeling well and that she needed to get some herbs or poppy seeds. What she wasn't expecting was to be told she was expecting. When she became friends with Wraith she had not expected it to lead to kittens. She blinked still trying to process the revelation. Wraith had already declared a lack of interest in being a parent and they had not declared their relationship anything but friendly. Would the other she-cat's look down on her for not being mates with the tom who fathered them?

The tom blinked, something sluggish and tired about him. He had a vole in his jaws, large enough for him and more. He carried it about, intending to put it where the rest of the clans food was, but upon seeing Juniperwater he smiled, almost losing his grip on the rodent. He padded over to her, tail in the air with happiness. He set the vole down, "Hey Juniperwater," he mewed, nodding towards her, "Looking for Graythorn? You feeling okay?"

As if the situation couldn't get any more stressful the father showed up.
"Hey Wraith." Suedesplash greeted the other tom. Since Wraith had started spending time with his sister he had made it a point to get to know the tom. So far he didn't think he was a bad guy.
Heat flushed across Juniperwater's cheeks. If light brown fur hadn't already been there she would resemble a rose. "I just saw Graythorn. He says im perfectly healthy!" she declared perhaps a little shakily and over enthusiastic. "Oh yes very good. Much good. Better than good. Like a fish in water... errrrrrrr."

"Oh! Good to hear then Juniper, Im glad" he purred, tail twitching. He looked behind her to see her brother, and nodded in greeting, "Hey Suedesplash," he greeted, "Have you visited Graythorn as well?" He asked, butting the top of his head into the she-cats shoulder, humour in his eyes.

Suedesplash was giving his sister a strange look. If not eyeing her like she was trying to hide something...
Juniperwater nearly jumped out of her fur when Wraith touched her. Her skin was electrified by his closeness and her belly flipped with butterflies. Curse her adoring heart. She blinked and allowed a desperate purr to escape. He deserved to know before he heard it from someone else.
Knowing his dislike of living inside the camp she wanted him to be able to run if he decided he wanted nothing to do with her or these kits. "Want to go for a walk? Just us?" she asked sending her brother a discouraging look.

The dusky tom blinked, looking up at her with a flick of his ears, curious about what this was all about. "Sure if youd like to..." He mused, cocking his head to the side, "Since im taking her for a walk, would you mind tossing this on the fresh-kill pile?" He asked, nudging the vole he had caught towards Suedesplash.

Suedesplash gave them a curious look but shrugged it off. "Sure." he said as he scooped it up with a paw and caught it in his jaws. The twins sepporated as he walked away in a little prance.
Juniperwater blinked pale blues at Wraith. "Lets go then." she meowed more steadily this time as she turned towards the forest. She took the lead. She wanted to go to the stream and cool off. Her thoughts wondering for a moment back to the swim she and wraith had taken when they had met.

"Thanks," he mewed. He was quickly turned around though as she began to walk off. Wraith caught up with her quickly, his eyes wide and alert, taking in the scenery as he padded along next to her. "Are we just walking, or did you wanna go somewhere...?" He asked, curling his tail.

"I was thinking we could go to the stream" she purred looking back at him worry nagging at her thoughts. Her smile was forced and she knew it. As excited as she was the whole situations joy was dampened by her pending doom. "We haven't been there since we ran into eachother." she purred as she walked. The longer she could take to get there the farther from pain she could stay.

He smiled, nodding, "The one you dunked my head under water because you said I smelled like fox dung?" He asked, wholly having fun with her, "Itd be nice to go for a swim again," he purred. He looked her over, figuring out his footing before getting closer to her as they walked, letting his pelt brush ever so slightly against hers.

She giggled feeling her heat lighten a bit. "Yeah that time." she purred giving his shoulder a nudge with her cheek as he brushed pelts with her. She wondered is he could feel the slight bulge in her middle. The small barely noticeable fact that she carried a secret. "Its a special place." she meowed the scent of water glossing over her as they neared the stream.

He looked out towards the sound of flowing water, and knowing they were close, trotted towards it, leaving her to play catch up. He smiled as he leaned over the bank, round rocks and sand were as clear as glass underneath the slowly moving surface. "Its special just for us," he mewed, looking back towards her.

She purred, she was tempted to push him in as she trotted quickly to reach his side. But Graythorn had told her to take it easy. She didn't reply at his comment though it made her heart squeeze painfully in her chest. Would this place still be special? Would her revelation ruin this place for them. She frowned slightly feeling that painful squeeze in her heart turn unbearable. "Wraith," she said softly. Perhaps no more than a whisper. "I asked you to walk with me because I need to tell you something."

"Hmm?" He mewed, sitting down so that his front paws were submerged in the running water. He curled his tail, as if laying it over her, "What do you want to tell me?" He asked, wondering what happened to have made her seem so serious. His brows raised, he looked her over, watching her face. He smiled a bit, wanting her to smile too. The anxiety creeped into his heart. Was something wrong with her? Would he lose her? She was his only tie to this place now, the idea of what would happen to him if she was gone flashed into his mind, and he mentally shook it away, not wanting to think about it.

"Um, well, I wanted to tell you..." her voice trailed off as her stress grew. She squeezed her eyes closed fearing for the worst. "I'm expecting kits!" she exclaimed her eyes closed tightly.

He blinked, and then grinned. "What a relief," he sighed a happy sound. "I thought you might have been sick or something, you made me worry." He licked her cheek, tail tip twitching, "Congratulations, Juniper." He purred, and then he paused, tipping his head aside, another curious look overcoming his face, "Who do I congratulate at camp?"

The sky suddenly seemed to fall around her landing solely on her shoulders. "Its you." she said softly. Like butterflies wings fluttering by. "They are yours Wraith. No one else's."

He stopped. Like the whole world stopped. He blinked, and then blinked again. A sour sort of confused look on his face. Not mad, just confused. "Its me?" He whispered, looking down at the ground. He shuffled his paws, and looked back up to her, "Its me? The kits are mine?"

Her face fell with a look of hurt. She looked down at her paws as well her focus seeming to shift. Here it was. Where everything changed. Where he would leave her in his past and go on his journies and forget he ever had a friend in her or kittens she would raise believe he abandoned them. She released a small whimper at the thought. "Yes Wraith they are yours."

He stood, turning to face her, his paws splashing about as he stepped through the water. He closed his jaw, not clamping it, just keeping his mouth shut as to be silent. He got close to her, as if he was just going to brush by her, but instead curled his neck around the back of hers, leaning his head across her shoulders. "You'll stay here with them, yes?" He asked, "You wont leave the clan and take them away will you?" His voice was a whisper, a bit of fear creeping into his heart. His ties to these grounds were multiplying at an alarming rate.
