Zak sat up carefully to not disturb the six kits at her belly. "Would've been better if you hadn't disappeared. But I have a litter of kits now. Dad's left the Regime, though."
Zak wasn't surprised by Kotori's happiness, and she let out a half annoyed, half amused laugh as she approached him, casually pummeling him into the ground with a paw. Though all he actually did was squeak like a squeaky toy, she probably didn't give him more than a headache, though she clearly also hadn't held back. "Well actually, he attacked mom. She wanted some information out of Dusky, Dusky refused, and then Sean dosed her with paralytics and he and Dusky ran." She explained coolly, though even he would be able to tell she was more unhappy about it. Then again, she'd been Sean's favorite, and he Shule's favorite, so it made sense she was more upset over their father being gone than Kotori would be.
Kotori sprang back up from Zakiyyah pummeling into him with a wild grin, but finally he frowned hearing her retell what happened, "Ugh, Zak that's awful." He cradled a paw around her, "He just... Left you. Alone. With these kits. No example for how a father should be, I mean, he always treated you so well and then he favored Dusky? I mean, he's second born. You should be furious he didn't think twice about you," He cooed gently.
"Oh wow, he does not miss a beat," Tigerlily commented from the sidelines.
Zak sighed. "Don't make me hit you again." She mewed with unusual bluntness, "Why did you come back anyway, thought you wanted to get out and see the world. I mean, obviously your kits brought you back, but did you really miss me so much already?" Her too knowing china doll eyes peered at him as she changed the subject away from their dad.
"Emiko gave me those cute eyes of hers and I couldn't resist not coming to see everything. She wants me to visit more often. but I don't know if I can, that thunderpath is pretty insane, I'll be lucky to get back again in one piece," He shrugged.
"Then I guess you'll just have to join again, won't you?" Zak mused, leaning down slightly so she wasn't towering so far above him. "Unless you're keen on crossing that thunderpath again anytime soon? I'm sure mom missed you. She could use the moral support right now."
"Eh maybe? I mean, I could make her move on from dad I guess... But like, I also feel her definition of mother son bonding is making me work," Kotori explained.
"Shule! Shule, come in here!" Tigerlily fake called with laughter.
Tigerlily didn't have to call twice as Shule strolled in. Actually, she'd scented them a while ago, she'd just been sitting there listening for a few moments. "I see you called for me? Welcome back, Kotori, Emiko." Now, her welcome was cold as she was, and probably none too comforting as Shule blocked their only escape.
Kotori expected himself to lose his nerve, but his emotion won over, "Hey mom," He said with a warm, but concerned expression, however his smile was warm as he made his way over to her, "I heard," He said pressing into her. For as happy as he always planned to be at Sean someday leaving the family and how much he thought he would go into overdrive ensuring he'd never come back... He didn't want to try and convince his mom further to go back with Sean. Just being there for her was enough.
She wanted to be harsh, to be angry with him, but honestly, Kotori comforting her hurt. Not because she didn't care about him, more that it broke open the wound she was trying to pretend wasn't there, and his comfort reminded her of the loss. "You're not leaving again, are you?" Shule hated that her voice sounded a bit small, and she gave him a single lick on the head, fighting back the urge to cry in front of her kits and grandkits. She could lose it later. Not now. Not now.
