Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
@dot hysteric & sunshine i hope i never have to make another thread for the next month, but i still have so many more to make rip Sometimes I wish you would just grow fur like a normal cat.
In days like this, where the chill in the air was much stronger than the heat of the sun, those words spoken by Chestnutheart returned to Hystericstar's mind. While originally, it had led to an idea of another herbal experiment, it had somehow ended with the former medicine cat forming a plan to get him a sweater. It was a ridiculous idea, but soon after that, another hairless tom had appeared in FallClan. This one, however, sported a cozy sweater to protect him from the weather. The leader would have been jealous, if he knew that he would actually hear the end of it. While Chestnutheart had never spoken a word about the other cat to him, Hystericstar had a feeling that she had something to do with it.
Luckily, however, this was one of the days where he could actually escape to his den for a little bit. With even colder weather waiting just behind the corner, he had decided to return to that scrapped idea of a fur growth mixture.
The sweater wearing tom in question felt bad that Chestnutheart and him had ever achieved her wish to get Hystericstar a sweater before her passing. So the hairless tom took it upon himself to fulfill the wish. He had close contact with some kittypets still from his youth. Every once in awhile he would get his sweat fixed up or even replaced. He noticed the weather was beginning to grow colder. He took that opportunity to approached the other hairless tom. "Hey Hystericstar do you have a second?" He asked.
So much for the time to himself. Holding in a sigh, the leader turned to see Sunshine in the entrance of his den. Speak of the devil, eh? Cautiously, his gaze swept over the tom, as if he was expecting there to be some sort of catch. If he had been planning something with Chestnutheart, was this not the time when she would do something?
Throwing his thoughts away, he replied, "I'm sure I could find one to spare."
Sunshine nervously shifted his paws. He silently prayed to Chestnutheart that their plan would be successful and that they wouldn't in the end offend the Fallclan leader. "Err follow me." He commanded the leader, giving him little room to answer. As he turned on his paws and begun to walk out of the Fallclan camp. Ready to head off into the Fallclan's territory to give the gift that Chestnutheart had intended for the Fallclan leader.
Hystericstar's brows furrowed at the command, and he would have actually commented or questioned it if he actually cared enough to. After all, Sunshine had just ordered a leader, but it was Hystericstar. And he did need more herbs, so he would've had to go outside at some point. So, he followed, walking beside the other hairless tom. "As long as you make time to help gather some tansy," he said.
"Is tansy that nasty tasting thing that Chestnutheart shoved in my face when she first catnapped me and dragged me all the way to Fallclan." His brown wrinkled, while his nose twitched. He struggled to not make a face, but it was hard after the former Medicine Cat had made it her duty to traumatize the tom.
"No, tansy is for helping with coughs," Hystericstar replied with a sigh. How did this tom not even know that? Wasn't that supposed to be basic knowledge? Of course, since he had been studying herbs and their effects since he was able to walk, Hystericstar had no sense of what was supposed to be basic knowledge.
But, this did answer one of his questions. This was all part of Chestnutheart's scheme. Even from StarClan, she was still bugging him with her motherly ways. "So, tell me now if this is going to be a waste of my time."
"I guess that depends on what your definition of wasting time is." Sunshine answered tipping his head to the side, but continued to walk ahead of the leader. The surround forest was beginning to look more familiar as they approached the area where the secret garden. The hairless cat stopped and begun to look around. "Now where did she say this was?" He muttered to himself.
Time that wasn't spent with herbs. Instead of saying that though, Hystericstar had decided to not comment. Instead, he was watching Sunshine, sincerely hoping that the tom wasn't about to get them both lost. As long as they remained in FallClan territory, the leader could find his way back to camp - he had scoured every inch of it in search of herbs, after all. The moment that Sunshine had begun looking around the Great Oak, however, it was rather easy to piece together what he was looking for.
"Here," he said, pushing away the leaves that covered the burrowed entrance into the Secret Garden. Immediately, the scent of herbs flowed out from the hole.
"Oh thank you! Ahh yes this is the place I believe she told me." Sunshine ducked under the entrance into the Secret Garden. The strength of the herb scent seemed to slap the tom in the face. "Chestnutheart and her herbs." His nose wrinkled in disgusted. From appearances nothing looked out of place in the Secret Garden. He beckoned the other tom to enter the garden.
With a shake of his head, Hystericstar followed Sunshine in. It was much nicer inside of the Secret Garden, with walls to block the chilly breeze. It was the perfect place to hide from the cold, which was why this area was able to grow herbs year-round. Plus, with the small pool providing the herbs the water they needed, there was little doubt why this place was one of Hystericstar's favorite places to go when he had to leave his den.
"Why did you drag me here?" he questioned, turning to face Sunshine. At least this would make the whole gathering tansy thing much easier.
For a moment, all Hystericstar did was stare at Sunshine with blatant distrust in his gaze. If this was something that Chestnutheart had planned before her death, then he certainly had a reason to be on edge. But, the former medicine cat would never hurt him. Quite the opposite, her caring nature was too obvious to anyone that met her. So, hesitantly, the leader followed the instructions with a sigh.
"Thank you I won't be but a moment." Sunshine moved away from the leader and walked toward's the back of the garden. Stored near the back of the garden was Chestnutheart's gift for the leader. The former medicine cat had when through many many days, weeks even to consider the gift. Sunshine grasped the soft sage colored fabric and dragged it in the direction of the leader. When he was standing in front of the leader he nervously shuffled his paws. "You can open your eyes now." He meowed softly.
The entire time that Hystericstar had his eyes closed, he couldn't help but wonder. Why was he even doing this? Entertaining other cats wasn't something that he enjoyed doing, especially when it involved him being dragged out of camp for some surprise. There was no way that his life was in danger right now, however. Just about anyone could physically overpower the scrawny leader with brute force, so there was no need to go about it this stealthily.
When he was allowed to open his eyes again, however, everything fell into piece. Honestly, he had been stupid to not have seen this coming. "You must be joking."
Sunshine pulled uncomfortable at the collar of his sweater that was around his neck. "Well you see, Chestnutheart saw me hanging around the Twolegplace wearing this. She told me how she was afraid you would freeze to death in the winter. So she kind of catnapped me and dragged me all the way to Fallclan. In hopes that I could help her find a sweater of your very own. She never got to fulfill her wish before her passing. So I took it upon myself to complete her dream she had for you. So well this is your's, your very own sweater." Sunshine replied sheepishly.
Hystericstar stared at the sweater being held out to him as if it was the most offending item he had ever laid his eyes upon. So, she hadn't been joking all those moons ago. She had actually gone and kidnapped a cat to help prevent him from freezing. That caring nature of hers was crazy. He almost just left right there, leaving Sunshine and the sweater behind, but it felt far more like a gift from his lost friend than a terrible joke. Which made it all the more worse. "Why?" he sighed, shaking his head once more. "She kidnapped you, and instead of going back, you finish what she had been trying to do?" Was he stupid? He wanted to add, but decided against it.
"Well she said you looked like me. Which when I first laid my eyes on you I can see what she meant. She must of thought I could help you because I lack fur like you do. She did ask if I knew of a remedy to make your fur grow like a regular cat. I can truly say I thought she had lost a few stones in her head when she asked me that question. But then I came to realize she truly cared for you well being which is why I guess I continued it." He replied he send an uneasy smile in the leader's direction.
Despite everything, Sunshine's explanation had melted away any offense that Hystericstar had taken. He had never been too close to others, but there were always exceptions. Chestnutheart had been one of the closest cats to him, other than Cal. Seeing her that night, clad in speckled starlight, was still a rather vivid memory to him. Mostly because he still couldn't really wrap his mind around it, but he had at least figured out where she had vanished to. "She's stupid," he said, though the insult lacked any actual negative intent.
“I believe she deeply cared about.” Sunshine commented his whiskers twitched with amusement. “Her drive and the lengths she went to secure this for you. It’s inspired me to stay in Fallclan. It’s been awhile since I’ve felt the drive to stay in a clan. I believe my past experiences are also what add to her cat napping me.” He added his smile becoming more genuine and less awkward with the situation. He found the younger Tom’s friendship with the former medicine cat very amusing.
