Larkwing was walking through the forest. His mind was on other things. He had only been deputy for a few sunrises and all hell was breaking through with Sunclan, Dayclan, and Springclan and somehow, Nightclan was getting caught in the cross fire. He needed a time on his own to think. There was much to process. Before he knew it, he had crossed over onto Renegade Regime territory. He had been pretty far in before he realized he had crossed the border. Before he could run back the other way, he heard a stick crack and he froze. Was this a patrol? Were they going to make him leave or were they going to harm him? This was no time for Nightclan to be on Renegade Regime's bad terms.

Mercenary Elsie cursed mentally at herself as her paw accidentally hit a twig that was hidden in the grass. She had been up on the surface practicing some new fighting techniques she was developing when an unfamiliar scent wafted in her direction. As she got closer, she recognized the scent as Nightclan and caught sight of the Nightclan tom. Now that the sound had given away her position, she leapt at him with a low growl and pinned the cat to the ground. Her claws were sheathed until she had more information, but decided it was easier to have him lower than her and in a weaker position.
The silver tabby growled and met his eyes with her own navy blue, the same as her fathers. "Who are you and why are you in Regime territory?" She challenged him harshly. Despite being a mercenary, Else understood that using her claws was not always the solution to every situation and would wait to hear his answer before making a judgement call.
Larkwing hit the ground and flinched at her harsh questioning. "I-I'm sorry...I didn't mean to..." He wasn't going to fight her. This was her territory after all. She had every right to harm him.

She was surprised that the Nightclan warrior made no attempt to defend himself or fight but she did not move just yet, he could be trying to fool her and attack her when she least expected it. "Who are you?" She repeated her first question suspiciously. It wasn't every day that she stumbled upon such a feeble intruder after all.
"M-my name is Larkwing. I'm Nightclan's new deputy" he mewed, still not daring to move as she kept him pinned. "Again, I am s-sorry. I will leave immediately..."

She stepped off of him after thinking for a moment. Renegade Regime did not need to make enemies with Nightclan at the moment and he was a deputy after all. She could tell by his stammering and nervousness that he was new and hadn't trespassed on regime territory before. Regardless, her navy blue eyes still held a cloud of suspicion. "You don't seem very fierce, for a deputy." In regime only the skilled and fierce became Mercenary Superior, a position Elsie aspired to rise to with time.
He slowly climbed to his paws and shook the dirt out of his fur. "I didnt plan on being deputy. Burningstar chose me for some unknown reason. But I'm sure in time I will get better. I will leave now." He mewed, turning away.

"Come back here, Nightclan Deputy," Elsie called. She was curious about him now and wasn't about to let him leave her territory until she was completely convinced he was not sent here to spy on them. "I have more questions for you," she was not shy about this as the Regime was not bound by their laws or codes.
He looked over his shoulder at Elsie, debating on whether he should trust her or not. But then again, she should be the one worrying about whether to trust him or not. After all, he was on her territory. He turned and padded back toward her, his head low. "What did you want to know?" Was she going to take him prisoner? Burningstar would kill him if she found out.

"How you made it as far as Regime territory." It was in a way a political statement and she genuinely wanted to know. Nightclan cats were not common intruders, but that also meant that she had never gotten to shred the pelt of a Nightclan cat just yet.
He shrugged, "Ive been so lost in thought. I must have crossed Dayclan territory to get here. They havent been on their territory in two moons. The scent markers are stale. I must not have thought I walked this far" he explained, looking at her with pleading eyes.

She stared at him, she did not detect any lies from him and his scent clearly told her that he felt a semblance of guilt. She sighed and rolled her eyes. "Clan cats." She mewed softly. They were so dazed and caught up in other things so often it was ridiculous.
"Speaking of clan cats, are the rumors of Sunclan true?" She asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.

"Hmm." Her face furrowed in thought. She was not the biggest fan of either, or any clan really, but things between Dayclan and the Regime were not always good. They had known squabbles over kits in the past after all. "Do clan's always squabble this way?" She still did not understand their lives or the code that-supposedly-bound them.
He thought for a moment. Many of the clans do squabble over pretty much anything. Especially kits. "Nightclan try to keep to the warrior code even if the other clans choose to break it more than honor it." He explained. "I really doubt Burningstar would ever break the code like that but I know that when I become leader, the warrior code will always be honored."

She looked over him curiously. He had so quickly surrendered to her without even defended himself and now talked of honor? What a strange cat. "What is your warrior code like? In the regime we certainly have a code that we stand by but I imagine it is very different from yours." After all, the regime had much more discipline and honor than clan cats in her eyes.
He looked at her, his gentle sky blue eyes glimmering in the moonlight. "The warrior code is our morals, basically. Its what separates us from being ruthless rogues." He started becoming more relaxed and comfortable the longer he was there with her. Was she really curious about the way he lived? He almost wished he could share his world with her and vise versa. But he knew that wasn't a smart idea. It could lead to problems that they didnt need to have right bow.

She thought about his words for a moment. She had seen the clans do awful things, killing cats, fighting each other needlessly, stealing kits, killing kits even. The regime was on more of an unspoken honor system than a clearly defined code. "Odd. You clan cats seem to operate more on morals and emotions than anything else. I've seen you clan cats do awful things."
He looked away, "yes. Ive seen that as well. Its almost as if the warrior code doesnt even exist anymore. But I will always honor it. I refuse to sink as low as taking a life for a no good reason." Then he looked at her curiously. "I often hear how dangerous the Regime can be. Why did you release me? I was trespassing and you had your chance to dispose of me. Showing the other clans that the Regime are not to be messed with. But you chose not to. Why?"

She looked at him with intense navy blue eyes exactly like her fathers and her gaze never wavered. "Trust me, if you had even unsheathed your claws I would have shredded your pelt into tiny bits. But, we in the Regime take pride and honor ourselves in battle. I am not a league cat who kills for fun. You showed me no resistance, only reverence and respect. That is commendable and I will not attack a cat who wishes no harm on myself or the Regime." If nothing else, Elsie had always been unwaveringly loyal even when one of their own killed her father. She had even followed the cat who killed him and took his orders, right down until the day he was no longer commander.
