Sagebristle, staring at the ground, had a perfectly good view of the flowers he dropped at her feet. Like he was her boyfriend or something, in the middle of one of their jobs. "Oh my god, Moonboy, hush," she hissed under her breath, her ears flaming with a secret joy and an overwhelming sense of embarrassment. "We're at work!"
After he lapsed into silence, she felt a sense of guilt, and she let out a soft sigh and rolled her eyes. "Thank you for the flowers," she spoke slowly, her heart stuttering in her chest. "They're very pretty. Now pay attention- they're asking the shrieking banshee over there to come back to Nightclan because she took one of Aspen's lives."

skskssksksks this is so funny slkdjgklds
Moonblight seemed intrigued, as if they were just gossiping in camp rather than at an actual war meeting, and he gave Sagebristle a sunny grin when she thanked him for the flowers, nudging her shoulder with a playful look in his eye, before glancing to that said 'shrieking banshee.' Huh, she didn't seem like the kind who could kill their leader; she was pregnant too. "How did they kill Aspenstar?" he asked, as if watching some drama on the TV, "and I'm guessing they said no? Why not? Is she important?"
Eshek had noticed Ber's brief falter, the way his eyes flicked to the newcomer and he lost his train of thought, and she silently turned her head to look at him, watching him with an unreadable expression. Then, to dispel the moment and cover up for him, she suddenly looked back at the two young cats whispering behind Aspenstar and let out a loud, "AAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWW." Everyone was already pissed off with her; better they get even angrier than someone asking questions of Ber he didn't want to answer. He was the Warden; she was just a Proxy. It was her job to protect him; it had been, unofficially and in her own mind, since the day she'd met him.
However, they weren't whispering as quietly as they thought they were. "Hii!" Eshek called cheerfully in a slow sort of voice, waving at Moonblight and Sagebristle from her place beside Bermondsey. "I killed Aspenstar because she treats her brother like ass and also because I just like killing people. Nice flowers." She craned her neck higher to peer over at the little bundle of purple. "Alliums. You two make a cute couple." She was always happy to have a dramatic confrontation turned into a carnival farce - and especially now, because oh, it was so embarrassing for Aspenstar. She looked back at the NightClan leader. "Thank god your Loyal Guard is so scary or else we might not take them seriously." Her sombre face fractured and she let out a wheezing bark of laughter, half-stooping forward.
Larkspur turns and shoots a death glare at the two young Loyal Guard, before taking a quick glance at Aspenstar to gage her reaction. "You two, hush." Her blue eyes were on fire in a way they usually weren't, and she knew she'd likely have to have a conversation with them later. There was a time and place to be obnoxiously in love and right now was not the time.
She faces Eshek with the same death glare, her lip curling back. The audacity of the cat who took one of their leader's lives to now laugh at them?
Elizabeth had also taken note of Bermondsey’s little moment, her blues eyes registering a flash of panic, followed by a cord of strain in his expression, far from his usual agitation. Her interest peaked and it didn’t subside as Eshek began to obviously cover for him. An unblinking intrigue halted her concern from asking if he was ok, instead she silently watched and waited, beginning to slide together the puzzle pieces that Bermondsey had left scrambled until now. Elizabeth allowed her gaze to linger on the Warden a moment longer, until her attention was stolen away by the not-so-quiet whisperings of the new arrival. A snap of irritation summoned a scowl, but it melted away at Eshek’s mocking derision. A shadowy smirk retraced her maw, but it didn’t reach her eyes, which remained dark, intense, and withholding a hint of wrath. The moment was humiliating for Aspenstar, surely, but she stopped short of underestimating Nightclan.
“We were discussing war,” Elizabeth reminded the group with a trace of laughter, but it was stolen by the breeze before it could be deemed true amusement.

(So much to catch up on, here we gooooooooo)
The Nemesis listened to Aspenstar to just then listen to everyone's opinions and banters. Good grief. He started his attention back to Aspenstar first. "You know you aren't wrong. Clearly you aren't a soft clan leader and I misjudged that (you are crazy is what he thought to himself)...however I'd like to point a few things out. You go on with how we aren't loyal solely based on one individual but ponder why I would allow a cat that dislikes me so much to be one with my higher ups? I am not foolish and allow just anyone in my ranks. There is a good reason why she is here. Aside from that you sneer how we are unloyal but I would have to say you are the unloyal one. While you are more than happy to give any cats away nilly-willy for the sake of revenge and such we don't do that here. Do they get punished severely? Oh yes, far worse punishments than you would imagine and not just dishonor and embarrassment as you think. We may not give up our own but if death is required then we handle that ourselves...we do not give them up to other clans because they are demanded of it. We are not soft or weak Aspen. Coming in here making threats and demands as if we would bend and cater to your will is a rather foolish one if you ask me. You forget who you speak to, I am the Nemesis of Primal Instinct. Throwing words around like war or threating us is rather interesting considering you walked into the lion's den. I don't know if I consider you brave or foolish for your desire of desperate revenge. Perhaps both. Normally I would find you an interesting feline, perhaps even having pleasant discussions, but you are so thirsty for revenge it has caused you to act foolishly and with a sense of high mania. If you want so badly to blame anyone then instead of the group blame me directly, I do not care. We will do what we will with Eshek and you will go on about with your clans. Sure you put a cat as leader in Summerclan but I am not foolish to believe you aren't the true leader there. Don't let that sense of high cost you another life Aspen." Regulus said in a dismissive way.
Next he turned to Eshek. "You need to be more careful what you say, the more you go on the deeper the hole you dig. Just because I don't allow Nightlcan to take you does not mean you are out of the woods yet. As a matter of fact I am having you leave taking Bermondesy with you. Clearly you cannot control yourself and I wonder about you. Both of you go to the Shaman's den. When I get back we will have a nice long discussion on Eshek's punishments as well as seeing about your mental state. No normal cat would behave like you do."
Regulus casted an interested look between the two Nightclan cats saying nothing to them but to Aspenstar. "How ironic you mention "keeping my dog on a leash" when you have cats coming in half way to bring flowers to one another. Very interesting indeed. Guess neither of us can take control of our own. I would caution on raising war against us...might find you are trying to swallow more than you can chew even with having two clans. Or if anything even more so with just taking over Summerclan. Might find that there are hard feeling with some of those cats there." Now Regulus gave a smile but one without warmth or kindness. More like a smile of a cat with malicious intent, a smile seen on an enemy.

POSTEDOct 24, 2021 12:17:04 GMT -5 TO primal instinct
Although she pretended to pay the other's no mind, Aspenstar was struck by every detail of the interaction that was going on beyond she and Regulus. Even though she seemed to have her full attention on the Primal Instinct Nemesis, she was also taking diligent notes on the others. Bermondsey had faltered for a moment when Moonblight showed up- that was interesting. Eshek had instinctively covered for it, that made it important. She was going to have to discipline her two youngest Loyal Guard members for being disruptive. The she-cat she did not know had expressed agreement with Aspen's premecess. The other unknown she-cat was dedicated to discussing business and business alone. How interesting, all of these interactions played out. How interesting, indeed.
But, her real focus never left the Primal Instinct Nemesis. It was rude to ignore someone you were having a conversation with, even in a sea of other conversations. "I didn't say willy nilly, darling, they of course have to do something to be turned over. But, I suppose your premise is correct: if a cat did something to insight war, I would hand them over immediately. You see, ultimately, I have no loyalty to individual cats. Individual cats are expendable if they threaten the whole. My ultimate loyalty is to NightClan and NightClan alone. If that is disloyalty in your eyes, it is a badge I will wear with honor."
"And ultimately, this isn't about revenge. If I wanted revenge, I would have taken it, don't you think? If I was out for revenge, Eshek would not be alive, or I would have killed one of your warriors indescriminately, or I would have come to Primal Instinct with my entire army. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not completely without personal motivation, but I assure you, because I tried to handle this diplomatically at first, revenge was not my soul purpose. You see, as much as revenge is fun, what I am really here to do is seek justice. You see, when Eshek took my life, she didn't just wrong me. She wronged NightClan. My clan was harmed directly, and I am here for repayment of the debt that is owed to my clan." Her tail twitched back and forth. What was the difference, really, between justice and revenge? Could they really be so neatly disentangled in the leader's mind?
"I asked for the debt to be repaid with Eshek because it is a personal debt. Like I said at the beginning, I really didn't want to blow this out of the water and make an innocent pay for something they did not do. But, at the end of the day, between you and I, I don't care if the debt is repaid with her life. In fact, she keeps Pinesimmer occupied, and she's a piece of eye candy, so I'd be a little sad to see her go." She let out a cold laugh. "But, I didn't want to place blame of her actions on someone else without cause. However, since you've accepted the direct blame for her, I am more than happy to hold you accountable for the wrong produced to my clan." She then paused, rolling her shoulders.
"I appreciate your concerns about me taking on more than I can chew," she then meowed, "but I assure you, I can handle my own affairs. As I said before, I have no real interest in going to war with you. It isn't a strategic move for either of us, using expendable resources this close to winter. I don't want to waste my spoils of war on another war, mmm? I would much rather we deal with our dispute just like we are now, a conversation. But, do not get it twisted, Regulus," she warned, tilting her head to the side slightly, "if you do not comply with my diplomatic intentions, war will be my only option."
The leader stood from her position, motioning for her guard to be ready to move. "As such, I will state my terms plainly. A life was taken from NightClan. A life will be taken from Primal Instinct. An eye for an eye. You have precisely one moon to decide how you wish to repay it. You may offer me a life of one of your league mates, or hell, you may even offer me one of your own. I know a thing or two about having expendable lives, and I would make it quick and painless so we could move on with our day, if that seems to be your best option. A moon from now, if I have not received my life, I will take a life. The decision is yours, and the clock is ticking."
The leader then turned to her warriors, motioning the patrol to leave without giving Regulus or any of the other Primal Instinct cats a chance to respond. When they were safely away from the territory and out of hearing range, she paused. "Moonblight, Sagebristle, you two go home alone. Resolve whatever... this was before you get back to camp. I don't care how long it takes. When you have resolved it, you will meet me in my den so we can discuss proper etiquette in war times." She then sighed. "As for the two of you," she looked at her deputy and Loyal Guard captain, "you're with me. Let's go."
The second Regulus sent her to the naughty corner of the Mansion, Eshek's face fell. But as soon as he said Bermondsey was in it with her, a grin exploded across her face. "Ooh, you're in trouble!" she purred delightedly in his ear. "Okay, bye dad, bye Aspen, bye everyone, next time we'll do it at Aspen's place and she can bring the snacks, bye everyone, bye!" Pretending to cough and sputter and wheeze for breath in Aspenstar's direction just as the leader had when she'd drowned her, clutching at her throat with one paw, and waving like she was the superstar performer at a concert that was going to become so boring without her there, she finally goose-stepped past Ber and ran happily in the direction of the Mansion, cheering and whoop-ing and leaping in the air.
"Did you hear Regulus call me crazy?" she said to Ber as soon as he caught up, the naughty Proxy and the naughty Warden. "He's crazy. The leader of NightClan, the deputy, the Captain of the Loyal Guard, and two of her guards were there - and we didn't kill 'em? We could've destabilised their Clan so utterly that we could've taken over NightClan and SummerClan like it was nothing. It's like Aspenstar was just dangling them all in front of us! Man, that's gonna keep me up at night. It was the perfect opportunity!" She leapt into the air in frustration, her legs shaking erratically like she'd been electrocuted in mid-air. Just before she could ask him why he'd been so freaked out by the young tom with the big feet, and possibly make some crass joke about you know what big feet mean and him being Ber's shameful rentboy just to hide the fact she actually did care, she heard the meeting breaking up behind them.
She stopped beside Ber and turned around in the middle of a sawdust-covered path leading straight through the trees, looking back at where Aspenstar and the NightClan patrol were turning away from the League cats. She stood there, watching as the cold breeze rustled the pine needles over their heads. "Whaddaya think they decided? Is there gonna be a war?" Without waiting for an answer, she made sure the NightClan cats had disappeared around the trees before she ran back over to Regulus. "Is there gonna be a war?" she repeated, standing in front of him excitedly and grinning up at him like she wasn't disobeying direct orders by being there and not in the Shaman's den.

While Eshek was back to her normal self, overjoyed and cackling with her ill-intent, Bermondsey's mood had quickly soured. Knowing that his foster child was in that clan with that maniac as a leader was now a liability, especially if they went to war with each other. It was bad enough that SummerClan and NightClan were involved in their little kerfuffle–something he had not seen coming, considering they were clans who seemed to be allied at the time he had dropped the kits off–but if the league got into this...he grimaced at the thought. He'd never be allowed to pull back, and if the kit was one of Aspenstar's guards...
He knew it'd be a messy bloodbath. Even if Eshek had tried to convince him that the curse wasn't real, he was more convinced than ever that it truly was. How else would this be explained? One of his in a clan that was colonized, another in a clan he was enemies with...whoever had done this was a nasty piece of work. Fate didn't do coincidences so often, did it? Even though being sent to the shaman's den was a 'punishment,' he was almost happy to go. If anything, Charlotte would be the easiest one to speak to. After all, these were her half-siblings they were talking about...
He looked up only to find Eshek disappearing, bounding back to the meeting. Goddammit, he swore under his breath, as he followed behind. There was no point in going back on his own. Still, as he neared and Eshek asked her question, he looked to the Nemesis expectantly, as if waiting for some announcement. The other tom must've had some thoughts, and spare the lecture. He knew it wasn't going to be pleasant.
