Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"I won't tell anyone!" Cinderflower assured him quickly, smiling widely. "I've heard of medicine cats in other groups having mates, so I'm not sure why it can't happen here." Both of her parents had not been born in a traditional clan, so there were some areas she tended to be more laissez-faire with the rules. "But I guess if you feel like you can't, then you should stick with your gut."
The idea of only having a night was heart-wrenching, but it was still more than she'd ever had with Sunpetal. She didn't really know what a night entailed- perhaps cuddling close and whispering all the secret hopes of your heart? What she wouldn't give for that opportunity with her closest friend... "I'm sorry you can't be together, though. I think everyone deserves a chance to be happy, and you seem so nice. Maybe one day it'll work out for you."
The brown and white tom gave a small shrug, but offered the smokey pelted she-cat a small smile. "It would only ever be for that night, and that night is enough," he murmured. "And that will be enough for me." Moments of that night rushed back to him, smelling the marsh and feeling soft fur against his own coarse pelt.
Turning to the she-cat, he offered her a wry smile. "So what do you really think of my sister?" he asked with an arched brow.
Cinderflower stopped her flower picking abruptly, the thin skin of her ears turning a violent beet red. "S-Sunpetal?" She asked, scuffing the dirt under her feet. It was no use trying to hide it, she realized- he saw right through her. After a long moment, she answered quietly. "I love her. I always have, but I didn't know it 'til recently."
Suddenly, she lifted her amber gaze to Vulturemalice. "What should I do- do I tell her?" She asked, looking desperate for guidance. "I don't know what to say! I don't even know if she likes me back."
He instantly noticed the change in the she-cats composure, unable to hide the chuckle that escaped his lips. He could only imagine Sunpetal with this sweet, stuttering she-cat; always leading the conversation and taking charge as Sunpetal normally did. That was one of the things that he had loved about her - he never really had to talk, she did enough of that for the both of them.
"With Sunfreckle," he sighed, pawing at the dirt underpaw for a moment, "it's always best to be honest with her. She is very strong-willed and will always let you know what's on her mind, but she is loyal and loving to the end. The only family I have really, and I wasn't given a choice in that." Vulturemalice's smile grew wider at that. Ratstar had never been a father to him, but had accepted that Sunpetal had brought the medicine cat into the folds of their family. "Once she chooses you, that's it. And from what I can tell, you're a good, sweet, loyal she-cat and she would be lucky to have you. Making your feelings known early on might be your best bet, she tends to glaze over others due to her ranting."
He had always imagined it just being him and Sun in the end, growing old next to each other and griping about one thing or another. He had never imagined the bright she-cat with a mate or a partner, but in his mind he could see a small shadow alongside their elderly forms, trailing along and being apart of their coversations.
Cinderflower flushed faintly at the compliment, smiling. "You're right. She is like that- and she would appreciate my being honest." His last words made her nod thoughtfully, thinking over all the other cats who must be interested in Sunpetal. "I'll let her know soon, and I'll be totally honest. Got it! Thanks, Vulturemalice," she chirped, nudging his shoulder brightly.
"I think I have enough flowers," she said, looking down at the pile at her feet. "Do you want to head back and make them into crowns?"
