Southpaw didn't answer, just giving a little shake of her head. She didn't even have it in her to argue that no amount of soothing was going to help. She couldn't get the image of her mom out of her mind, nor could she really talk openly about all the emotions she was feeling. Prince Illius would understand, but their relationship was to new. She didn't want to scare him away like she did to everyone else. She felt so isolate, lonely, and scared.

He pushed a small amount of poultice in front of her. "At least have this then. It will keep you strong. For your mother. She would not want to see anything happen to you, especially now that she's gone." He sat down next to her and rested his fluffy black tail on her shoulder gently. He knew there was only so much he could do and jt may or may not help but he wouldn't sit and do nothing, either.

Southpaw would have normally complained about the foul smelling liquid, but she lowered her head and took her medicine without much of a fuss. "What are they going to do with momma?" In SunClan cats that died were taken and buried in the sunflower field. A sunflower was planted on their grave, so that at the very least their death could bring for life. It was rumored that spirits of SunClan cats often frolicked amongst the flowers. The thought of her being burred down here without anything to make her grave was terrifying.

He had almost forgotten she was not from the regime. "Well, if the family wants her to be buried in sunclan and shule permits it then that is a possibly. Otherwise, our veterans will carry her along the road of protection where she will be buried among our dead and guided to the blind protector. I hear it is a beautiful resting place, but no one except the commander, chaman, or veterans are allowed inside to protect the tunnel and its sacredness." His parents and siblings were all buried there so sometimes he wished he could visit and feel the presence of their spirits. "I can always show you where it is if she is buried there.

His answer seemed to give the young apprentice little comfort. That seemed so lonely and cold, but she didn't know what Unseenlights would have wanted. It wasn't something they had ever talked about, or that she had even thought about. She had always assumed that they would go to the sunflower fields, like the rest of SunClan. It seemed as if it was the final straw that broke her, shoulder hunched over as she looked at the ground in defeat. The weight of her mother's death to heavy of a burden for her to bare as she sobbed "This was all my fault... Daddy should decide..."

Valerian sat next to her and put his tail around her shoulder as she sobbed. He was not particularly good at comforting crying cats but by the blind protector he was going to try. "It's hard to deal with the death of a parent. My father was murdered by his cousin. It was surprising and unexpected, but there was nothing we could do about it. Then he became the commander and we had to follow his rule. It was... difficult, for certain. I know my mother struggled with it because that was the only cat she had loved her entire life, even if they were never mates. I struggled with it for a long time and became secluded. Now that I'm older I remember, I know that it happened for a reason. It wasn't a reason I could see or understand for a long reason. I still love and miss my father, but now I feel that he is always with me, everywhere I go. The pain has gotten easier over time, even if it hasn't gone away completely. It's okay, healthy even, to cry and feel pain. Don't be ashamed of yourself or how you grieve but don't let it last forever. You're stronger than you realize, Southpaw, and I think your mother knew that too." His voice was gentle and soft as he spoke and remembered. It was not a tale he enjoyed recalling often. Valerian remembered the way his other kits, born to him and his previous mate, had reacted. He thought they might even kill the commander with hatred, but alas they had lived on as he had.
