Sagepaw watched with a disbelieving expression as he ate the bones. "I didn't expect you'd go through with it," she said, laughing as she twitched her whiskers. "Nasty. But your commitment to the game is commendable."
"I'll do dare, too," she said brightly, determined not to be the first to wimp out.

He groaned. "If I knew I could back out, I probably would have," he grumbled, spitting out whatever was remaining, "anyway, your dare...I dare you to...." he gave it a good think, before grinning wickedly. "I dare you to...next time you see Phantomfox, I dare you to bite his tail."
"Oof, you want me killed, Moonpaw?" she asked, though she was grinning. "But fine. I'll do it- I'm probably one of the only cats in camp who can get away with it without being murdered."
After they'd both chuckled over that and fallen into a faintly companionable silence, she laid her chin down on her feet, lulled into a deepening drowsiness by the steady pounding of the rain overhead. "We should-" yawn- "get going when the rain clears," she mumbled, subconsciously shifting closer to where Moonpaw's form was radiating heat.

He laughed. "I just want to see how his face would look," he snorted in his laughter, "imagine that face of his...make sure to bring Foxpaw around if you don't want to get murdered."
As they fell to a comfortable silence except for the hail that continued to pound outside, his eyes softened, the cool breeze and the warmth of the other apprentice making his eyes slowly drift shut. It was quite chilly outside, and Sagepaw looked like she was starting to get cold. His long fur kept him warm but...it was easier to sleep when there was a source of heat too.
He curled up, plopping down next to Sagepaw as if not noticing the way his shoulders were touching hers, curling up tightly next to her. If she didn't bring it up, he certainly wouldn't.
Sagepaw stiffened at the first contact, holding herself rigid for a long moment. She hadn't been touched casually like this since her father had left her behind- mostly by her own choice. As the other apprentices platonically slept close to each other for warmth, she had held herself far away, ignoring the touch. Even when she'd been in the nursery, she'd rejected Rosethorn's offers of long-furred snuggles in favor of balling herself up tightly in the corner.
Now Moonpaw was just... pressed against her like this? It was such a foreign sensation, but some touch-starved part of her mellowed out at the contact. After a few breaths had passed, she softened, even leaned into the touch an infinitesimal bit. It didn't take long for her to pass out after that, finally warm for the first time in a long time.

Moonpaw had half expected her to flinch away, to get up and sleep somewhere else, so when she didn't, he couldn't help but smile a little to himself, even more so when she leaned in just a little bit. It was warmer with her around, that was for sure. He missed this feeling of curling up next to someone like this; it reminded him of being a kit. As much as he had slept huddled with the other apprentices before, it wasn't like this, there was this sort of intimacy in the silence of that moment, and perhaps in the future, he'd chalk his whole change in attitude with Sagepaw to key moments such as this, but right now, all he could feel was a comfort as they curled up together to sleep the rest of the storm away, for his worries were a thing for tomorrow, not today.
Sagepaw dreamed pleasant dreams that night, for once escaping the uneasy dreamlessness she usually experienced and melting into a place of warmth and security. When she woke up, the night was almost over, the morning dawning pale on a clear horizon. Her body had molded to Moonpaw's side, her cheek pressed up against his. It was so irresistibly warm beside him, and she found herself purring involuntarily- until consciousness came back fully and she realized how pathetically close to him she was.
With a start, she jerked back, scrambling away from him and out into the fresh air to clear her head. What on Starclan's green earth was that all about? After a few deep breaths she turned back. "We should get going, Moonboy," she called hoarsely, before clearing her throat.

The night was soft. It felt like everything was moving in slow motion. When he finally awoke, it was as if he had the best slumber he had in months. It was really relaxing he thought, falling asleep to the sound of rain, next to someone he cared about–wait, why was the warmth suddenly gone? He mumbled something in his sleep, as he heard his name being called. Peeking at the world with one sleepy eye open, he only saw Sagepaw, already looking frazzled in the morning.
"Five more minutes," he grumbled, turning around in protest, "I don't wanna train so early..."
Her embarrassment made her irritable, and she marched over to him, biting the meaty part of his upturned haunches until he jerked awake with a yelp.
"Get up!" she said, darting out of the way of his clumsily aimed blow. "We have to get back to camp now, you lazy sack of bones, before someone realizes we've been off the territory."

He blinked sleepily, before realizing that...oh right, they weren't in the apprentice's den. They were...they were...he immediately jumped up, eyes wide and fur messed up. "I'm awake!" he gasped, glancing around, before looking back to Sagepaw. "Do you think Larkspur's already noticed?"
"I hope not," Sagepaw grumbled, turning and moving off at a swift pace back towards Nightclan territory. She kept mostly silent on the way back, trying to forget the way Moonpaw's warmth had felt pressed up against her side as she slept.

He followed along, feeling a certain kinship with Sagepaw. As much as he had disliked her from the beginning, he was starting to enjoy hanging out with the other apprentice. It was fun, he acknowledged, even if they never managed to find his sister. He just hoped they wouldn't get in trouble when they returned back to camp.
