Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
“You sound lost,” she responded bluntly. Her tone was neither consoling nor mocking, but rather a flat observation. “Life has many disappointments. Some two-faced bastards will teach you that in a hurry. But when you stop pining for higher purpose you can find some harmony in the fighting and surviving, because that’s what we were put on this good earth to do.” Psh. Listening to herself sermonize like this brought a sour taste to her mouth. She afforded a mocking bend to her voice to stomach it. “We’re little puppets on strings, dancing for the bloody foliate head or Starclan and our bloody ancestors. Scratching and struggling and fighting. And then we have kits and they take up our strings, so we can watch for eternal amusement.” The thoughts were ad-libbed and her flippant tone revealed as much. She resented being so glib, but just how seriously was she supposed to take the metaphysical matter?
Then her face became uncharacteristically curious. "What are you hoping to find in The League? Aside from refuge from your crazy cult? It certainly wasn't fulfillment, was it?" She couldn't help but laugh at the thought.

He was lost, swimming through a life of supposed purposelessness. "I don't really believe in a higher purpose anymore either," he admitted with a laugh, "I think I gave up on that long ago." When he had left home, perhaps? Or when he had practically put his piece of trash father practically in the ground? Elizabeth had a point; he felt that his life had been all set in a rutted path since the beginning; things always felt like he was being led somewhere by some strange force he couldn't understand.
"No," he gave her a dry smile, shaking his head, "frankly, I was here looking for those crazy parties I used to hear about, just to find out that the city cats around here are just as poor and starving as the cats up north. I thought this was supposed to be a city of sin, and frankly, I haven't even had a good time yet."
The air filled with the sweet sing-songy echo of her laughter — her first genuine belly laugh in days. “You came to the league for the parties?” She considered that he was being impudent again, singing a false tune, but the disappointment in his voice sounded genuine. The absurdity kept her giggling for a few heartbeats. “I’m sorry hon, you just missed the fireworks,” she finally mewed as her laughter died down. “The league hasn’t been like that in years, from what I’ve heard.” She smiled. “What kind of sin were you looking for? The league has plenty to offer, if you look in the right places.”

He chuckled alongside her, despite the fact that her amusement was mostly at his own expense. "Well, they always did say that the city was all sex, drugs, and rock and roll," he mused, "are you saying that's not true anymore? What other sins are there to look for other than those?"
Truly, he was a cat of simple pleasures. He ate where he wanted to eat. Slept where he wanted to sleep, and well, anyone could guess the rest.
“Well, you’ve discovered sloth already,” Elizabeth joked absently. “You’ll find wrath in a hurry if you provoke any of the prison guards.” Her smile became cheeky. “If you don’t mind me saying, you seem to have pride a’ plenty, your highness. Envy is for the weak, but you’ll find it if you scrape the sewers of this city. There’s no gluttony here, as you noted. We’re as poor and starving as any cat in the world.” Her long black lashes lowered and her lips became salacious. “But there’s plenty of lust, depending on who’s asking. Hmm… what’s left?” Her blue eyes searched the sky. “Right. Greed. There’s that too, but you might find it in higher supply where you came from. No cat here is pining for eternal life, as far as I’m aware.”

He laughed, a hearty laugh this time. "Well I was always a fan of sloth," he smirked, "and trust me, my sister's wrath is bad enough. The only thing I envy are those who feel well-fed all the time these days, and well, let's just say for both pride and lust, that it's always been hard to find those who swing my way I'm afraid."
Hywel gave her a grin. "So what sins are you after?"
“Hmm…” she considered with a haughty hum. “I’m after the sins that excite me.” All sins suited the grey she-cat well, save for envy and sloth. Lust was her favorite sin; she loved seeing toms (and she-cats from time to time) squirm in its talons. “I suppose the ones that present themselves to me are the ones I pursue. It’s funny. I don’t believe in gods, but I also oblige my destiny quite a bit.”

His lips twitched to a smirk. "Of course you are," he mused, knowing exactly what the cat was speaking of. Surely, there were no better sins than lust and wrath in a place like this, "So where exactly do I go about indulging in these sins? Surely you must know." On the topic of destiny, he didn't put much thought into it. Surely, he had fled his own destiny when he had left the north?
"Destiny's a funny thing I suppose," he shrugged, "it never appears the way it's supposed to."
“That’s the excitement of it all, I suppose. Destiny. It’s a hare that’s always just out of grasp. Or — keeping with the prey metaphor — a pretty little bird that prances about it’s little routine. And if you don’t like its tune — and have a taste for chaos — you can kill it and indulge in your own agency.”
Elizabeth’s brow arched. “If you’re asking me to play match-maker for you, I’m afraid you’ve come to the wrong place. I’m only concerned with... satisfying my own needs,” she mewed suggestively. And she had a very large appetite.

He laughed at her words. "I suppose we're both hunting for the same types of cats," he gave her a wink, "unless you're interested in she-cats. Oh do tell me, what's your type?" He wasn't one to indulge in such gossip but he liked Elizabeth; she was fun. There were few cats that Hywel could say he found interesting, but surely, she was one of them.
Hywel didn’t grind on Elizabeth’s nerves, and the tune he sang was amusing when she was in the right mood. So she supposed she reciprocated his affection.
“Oh,” she smiled salaciously. “So, perhaps you have some recommendations?” She purred at the thought of sharing toms with this saucy cat. How naughty. “My type?” Strong? Dangerous? Tall, dark, and handsome? No, her tastes were more open-minded than those labels. She paused as she considered. “I like cats who... surprise me. Stimulate my senses.”

A chuckle left his mouth; it wasn't a surprise really, for a girl like that to want something spicy, dangerous even. Surely, no one who couldn't handle a little bit of trouble would find themselves here of all places, but her reply made him raise a brow. "A surprise huh?" he grinned, "I don't suppose you've met many of those around here, no?"
He found himself amused at this kind of conversation; there weren't many he'd be so...casual with. "I suppose I'm not all too different from you in that way, though I must admit, my sister does say I have a tendency to attract trouble. Perhaps that's my type."
“I suppose that I always try to make things difficult for myself when it comes to relationships,” she frowned, though she wasn’t sorry about it. “Once you get used to someone, it ruins the illusion of it all.” Sure, a few League cats surprised her in the past. They could be fun for a time. But they often angled for shock-value over genuine depth. It didn’t take long for her to uncover their schtick. And what lay underneath often wasn't pretty.
“Trouble is always looking for trouble, and you’re not hard to find,” Elizabeth quipped.

He grinned at that. "I guess you're right," he chuckled, "I found this place after all." He knew exactly what kind of trouble he had gotten into when he came here. Still, he wasn't picky. There wasn't some game or some ulterior motive, just a bit of fun and flirting really. From what he gathered from Elizabeth, she wasn't too different, though the reasons why were certainly not the same.
"You know, if you can't trust cats around here, you could always go for the ones back in the forest," he teased, "I'm sure they'll be a lot less shock value, you know. They seemed nice when we were passing through, as long as we weren't stuck on their territory."
“Oh Hywel,” she smiled dryly, her blue eyes canopied by her dark lashes. “The more you know me, the more you’ll understand how absurd that suggestion is. I’m far removed from that place. I’ve had too many wretched experiences to dare even drink the air of that forest, let alone live there.”
“Cats here are just where I want them,” she smiled as she stretched her spine luxuriously. “The devil you know is better than the one you don’t, they say.” Most of the clans could be considered friendly when held next to blood sacrifice and estranged fathers. But they weren’t all sunshine and rainbows, especially these days. There was a neurosis that came with rigid social norms and xenophobia, she thought.

He raised a brow, curiosity still written across his face. "What's wrong with the clans?" he chuckled. All he knew about them were just stories from the few cats he had met–Doefreckle and Amberbird mostly–and while he knew his...habits didn't exactly fit into the clans as much as they fit into a group like this, he couldn't deny the intrinsic curiosity he had over cats who grew up differently. Who lived differently.
"Why did you leave in the first place?" he mused, his curiosity didn't have a motive behind it like many would've had, he simply wanted to know.
“I was never part of any clan,” Elizabeth explained. “You can say... I lived adjacent to them. But their blood still runs through my veins.” She gazed up at the tom, her expression unreadable. “I was born a rogue, I grew up as a rogue, and now I’m here. I didn’t have to forfeit any allegiances; I come and go as I please. But it wouldn’t please me to return to that place. No, that forest disagrees with me. And I’m sure it and its denizens would say the same about me.”
Of course, the waters of resentment ran deeper than that. Blood was well mixed into those currents, and tears salted its shores. But she wasn’t in the mood to wade in that direction.
“You laughed with that question,” Elizabeth noted dryly, with a small smirk. “Do you think it’s unreasonable for me to suggest the forest is a wretched place? Has someone been filling your mind with other ideas?”

Elizabeth really was a curious cat, both honest and mysterious. It was certainly an unusual combination. There was a bigger question, a deeper revelation within her words truly, but he couldn't tell what it was. It was a book he struggled to read, but perhaps that was why he held such an interest in this cat right now, his curiosity still ever-growing with Elizabeth.
"I've heard of it throughout my passing-bys and my journeys I suppose," he chuckled, "some of them seem...insane. Not too different from where I left, really. Others seem...almost tame, compared to the city. They're certainly an interesting bunch. I don't know what it is about this forest of theirs but I can't help my own curiosity, I suppose."
“They’re curious, sure, but wretched all the same,” she commented dismissively, taking a sudden interest in the yellow daisies that seemed to grow all around this field. A glance at the sky revealed the sun beginning its descent to the west, the shadows around them growing longer as it did so. The day had grown old as she’d been chatting with this cat. She wondered if the other prison guards were missing her. Probably not. She’d wager they thought she’d just taken another rebellious prisoner out back for extra correction. The thought made her smirk.
As she drew her blue gaze down from the sky, it snagged on Hywel again, perched up high on his red brick wall. As if he fancied himself King, or something. That suddenly sent nettles of irritation through Elizabeth. “Are you ever going to come down from there? My neck hurts from staring up at you. Not very chivalrous of you, to make a girl work so hard.”

Hywel chuckled at her accusation. "You could just come up here too you know," he pointed out, glancing towards the stack of boxes and bins he had used as a makeshift stairwell, "I'm not stopping you or keeping you, am I? Not to mention, the view is much better up here. You get to watch all the commotion away from the squalor." He flicked his tail as if inviting her up, though he stood with a languished stretch, a yawn leaving his mouth.
"Though if you know of a better spot to sit and watch the day go by, by all means, let me know."
