Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Currently, Classic has 7 Clans and Groups to choose from. Each one has their own specialties and properties that make them unique. You can read more about them and decide which more suits you and your character in The Clan Guide.
ii. write a bio ↢
On Classic, it is customary to write a biography for each of your characters. These bios can range in length from a few sentences to a few paragraphs. Some Clans request bios to be a certain minimum length, so be sure to check the joining thread of each Clan for Clan specific policies, and remember that you are not allowed to use names that have been used in the books by Erin Hunter. Alternatively, you can adopt a pre-made cat from The Adoption Center.
The Anatomy of a Bio Catname Roleplayed by username It is a good idea to describe your cat's appearance in the first few sentences. What does their fur look like? What is the color of their eyes? Do they have any scars or other distinguishing marks? After describing their appearance, move on to their personality. Is your cat quiet and introverted, or friendly and passionate? Do they have a knack for running or do they love playing with kits? After a few sentences about your cat's personality, move on to their history. Were they born in the clan or did they move there? Do they have any family? What was their childhood like? Once you're finished with their history, you have a basic bio! Remember, this is just a guide on how to write a bio; feel free to expand on this and tweak things around however you feel fit!
↣ iii. post your bio in the joining thread
Each Clan and Group has their own joining thread that you can find on the Clan’s forum, or linked in the Clan Guide. The first post of every joining thread contains useful information, as well as what format to use when posting on the thread. To join a Clan, reply to the joining thread in the format provided. One of the Clan's staff members will add your cat to the page. Some clans allow users to immediately use their cat after posting, so be sure to double check!
Here on Classic, roleplays are done in the Third Person - that is, using your cat's name instead of of saying "I". Always try to be descriptive in your your post. Write what your cat is doing, where they are, why they are there. A post can be as long or as short as it needs to be, just as long as you feel that you have given your roleplay partner(s) something to work with.
Example of a Roleplay Brightfeather pounced on the mouse, killing it with a blow of her paw. A purr of satisfaction came to her throat. Another successful hunt! Hopefully this would help in restocking BlankClan's freshkill pile. She dropped her prey on the ground, and scraped a little dirt over it to hide it from sight. She could come back for it later - there was more hunting to do. She looked around, scenting the air for more prey.
ii. making a thread ↢
To make your own thread, navigate to the forum of the Clan that your cat belongs to. There will be text underneath the Clan name saying 'Create Thread'. Click on that, and you should see a box that looks something like this:

The top Subject bar is where you should put the title of the thread. Some people will indicate whether or not the thread is open or private, or which clan it is in, but this is completely optional. The larger text box is where you should type your roleplay. Be as creative as possible!
In the green gear on the upper right, you can add labels to your thread. These will indicate to other people what type of thread it is. This is not necessary to do, but is helpful! If the thread is private, be sure to indicate it in some way, either through the title, a label, or within the thread itself.
Once you are finished writing, click the 'Create Thread' button at the bottom.
↣ iii. reply to an existing thread
To reply to an existing thread, navigate to the forum of the Clan that you would like to roleplay in. Most threads should have the tags of 'Open' or 'Private', look for an Open thread with few, if any, replies. The following thread is a good example of what to look for:
You can read the full post by clicking on the title. Once you find a thread you would like to reply to, type out your response in the bottom textbox and hit 'Post Quick Reply' once finished.
iv. keeping track of your active threads ↢
To help keep easy track of threads that you have participated in, Classic has a Bookmark function. To add a thread to your bookmarks, simply go to the thread you wish to add, click 'Actions' in the upper right of the thread, and hit 'Bookmark'.
To view all of your bookmarked threads, go to the 'My Profile' tab at the top of the site, and click on 'Saved Threads' to the right. This will bring you to a page with every bookmarked thread you have. If there are ones awaiting your reply, they will appear as a different color.
Most likely, you will first join a Clan as either a kit or a warrior. Most of the clans have unique positions - such as the Nursery Aids of FallClan and the Garden Keepers of SummerClan - and the Revolutionary Groups have positions unlike the normal Clan positions. To gain a position on the staff of a Clan, you will have to try out. When a position becomes available, a member of the Clan's staff will post tryouts. Respond to the tryout thread in the format provided by the thread.
On Classic, main positions are divided into two categories: leadership and medical. Leadership positions include leader and deputy, and the medical positions include Medicine Cat and Medicine Cat Apprentice, or the Clan or Group's equivalent. Each user is allowed to hold one leadership and one medical position at a time. If you wish to tryout for a new position while holding one of the same type, you must step down beforehand.
In addition to the main positions, Classic also has roleplay positions. Some examples include the Cave Guards of FallClan and the Knights of WinterClan. These positions are unique to each Clan. You may hold one, or several, of these at once, in addition to a leadership or medical position. Typically, tryouts are held for these.
ii. site staff positions ↢
Classic has a few different type of members on the site. Each member can be classified as one of the following:
Registered User: These members take up the bulk of the site! This will be your position when you first join the site. You are free to post threads, but not edit pages.
Deputy: These are the deputies or equivalent of the Clans and Groups. They have the ability to edit pages to help their leaders add cats from the joining thread. They are chosen by a Leader to fill the position.
Leader: These are the Clan and Group leaders. Message them if you have any questions about their clan. A Deputy becomes a Leader when their predecessor steps down.
Moderator: Moderators participate in moderator discussions and help make sure the site runs smoothly. They are voted into their position through nominations whenever a spot is open.
Administrator: Classic has five administrators: Communications Manager, Activity Manager, Entertainment Manager, Layout Manager, and Offsite Manager. In addition to moderator duties, each administrator is in charge of a certain aspect of the Classic. Administrators are either chosen by the person in the position before them, or voted into the position by a majority of Classic. Administrators do not have to be Clan/Group leaders.
Moderators and Administrators are considered Staff Members and must follow the Staff Rules in addition to the General Rules.
