Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Today was just one of those days for Poisonrush - nothing to do and, with no sense of purpose, he just lazed around. His mate, Blueflame, recently had kits and that took of most of his time apart from his normal duties. Today, he didn't have any errands to run for her...yet. He was sure something else would come up eventually but until that time came, he would spend he had to himself, in the sun. Hopefully no one would come by with something for him to do.
Riverglae trotted back into camp with a carp in his jaws; a rarity for FallClan to have fish in their freshkill pile. Depositing his prey amongst the others, the brown and white tom looked around camp, giving his tail a flick and wondering what else to do. Spotting Posionrush, he made his way over to the new father and gave a nod in a greeting. "Up for some hunting?" he asked with a tip of his head.
Poisonrush noticed the tom approaching him and returned the greeting. "Yeah, I'm up for some hunting. Where did you think of going?" This was the perfect opportunity to get away from his mate and kit now that they are a little older. "That was a nice catch you brought back," he complimented, tilting his head over to the freshkill pile's new addition.
"Thank you," the brown and white tabby said with a dip of his head. Narrowing his eyes in thought, Rivergale gave a smile and replied, "Maybe down by the river, the little creatures will be wanting some water in all this heat, I know I would at least." Knowing he just came from where he mentioned, the tom couldn't help but want to go back to the cool embrace of the water.
"Yeah, that makes sense. We can do that," he replied as he tilted his head from side to side. He looked back toward the nursery where his mate was for a moment before looking back to Rivergale. "I'll be right back. Gotta tell Blueflame where I'm going," he said before he sprinting toward the den and entering.
A few moments later, he returned. "Okay, I'm ready when you are!"
Rivergale waited with a small smile, wondering if one day he would ever feel like it was to be a father and have a loving mate, to raise a family of his own. Sure he has had crushes on a few she-cats before, but nothing has ever felt right. Giving his head a shake to chase away the feelings, his smile widened when Posionrush returned. "C'mon then, sun will be setting soon!" And with that, he bounded out of camp.
"Alright, Lead the way!" the tom exclaimed as he followed Rivergale out of camp. Glancing up at the sky, it was getting darker by the minute but that shouldnt hinder their hunting much, if all. However there were predators that came out at night and having just two cats would not be enough to fight them off. "What's the goal for this hunting mission? How much prey are we thinking of bringing back?" His competitive side almost wanted to challenge Rivergale to see who could bring back the most prey but he refrained. He shook the thought from his head. This is meant to be leisurely, not stressful.
Giving a small snort, Rivergale tossed his head. "It's not a mission, we are just hunting to add to the fresh-kill pile, an maybe catch something tasty and filling for your mate," he meowed over his shoulder as he wove through the undergrowth. "I'm just making sure everyone gets fed and fattens up before the season ends."
Realizing what he called it, Poisonrush smiled apologetically. "Oh, right. Of course," he said sheepishly.
Well that was embarassing. He was so caught up in the idea of making it competitive that he had forgotten about the whole point of the hunt. "Yeah, that'd be a good idea, especially with leaf-bare approaching." Blueflame will definitely need prey to keep providing milk for their kits so he'll have to gather some quality prey.
Offering a small smile, Rivergale flicked the toms shoulder with his tail tip and meowed, "I can't even imagine the stress you are under, trying to make sure you're family is fed. I get it, wanting to have a set goal and know that you've provided for them."
"Thank you for understanding, Rivergale. Although I will admit, it's not as stressful as when my daughter though. Now that she's an apprentice, she can help Blueflame out while I'm away." Poisonrush couldn't help but smile to himself. He had the family he always wanted, he had another purpose other than to serve the clan, something to protect. The smile faded though when he remembered others didn't have it like he did. "Sorry about that again."
"I'm sure I'll get there one day," the tom replied with a wink. "Just gotta find the right gal to settle down with me." He had to admit he hadn't really looked for a mate, and was more waiting until the stars decided it was time for him.
Poisonrush nodded in understanding of Rivergale's statement. But he was curious about something and it may not have been his place to ask this seeing as he was already mated. "Just out of curiosity, what do you think of the she-cats of Fall?"
Grey fur and sorrowful pale green eyes came to mind. Though he had only had a few interactions with the she-cat before, the night that he took her out into the forest after a storm lingered in his mind. Acorncharm. The name rang through his mind. Suddenly feeling bashful, he ducked his head. "There's one who has made an impression, but I doubt the feelings are mutual."
"Oh?" Poisonrush said quizzically. "How do you know? Have you actually tried talking to her?" the tom questioned, honestly out of pure curiosity. If he hadn't had talked to Blueflame, he never would have assumed she held feelings for him and vice versa. It all comes to communication, Poisonrush learned.
"A bit, I took her on a walk down to the river the other night," he meowed, kicking a little rock at his paws. "She seemed to enjoy herself. But I know she's been going through a lot with the loosing of her last family member. I don't want to push things or rush it."
The tom tilted his head from side to side considering his words. "That's fair and respectable. I'm sorry to hear that though." He could understand losing a loved one could weigh heavy on their mind and getting into something wouldn't be fair. "Do you want to hear my advice?" he asked.
Poisonrush nodded. "I'm not sure how much this will help, but be there for her. It's the least you could do. And at a time that seems appropriate, maybe not for a good while, confess to her. Who knows? Your feelings may be reciprocated. The fact that she went on a date with you is a good sign though." The tom was no love guru but he felt his advice was solid.
Warmth rushed through Rivergale as he thought of his night with Acorncharm. "She loved seeing the fireflies," he said softly, eyes glazing over for a moment as he remembered how the yellow light looked dancing across her smokey fur. "I think she might feel the same way, I just know she lost her first love a while back and that's something that is hard to get over." A small frown pulled down the corners of his lips as the brown and white tom looked back up at his companion. "How did you know that your mate was the one?"
