Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The flame-specked tom stepped into the leader's den, the shadows washing over his dark brown coat as he lifted his head to seek her out. Emberbrand's tone was formal as ever, his head respectfully bowed, but there was an uneasiness to the way he stood, his shoulders rounded and not quite confident. "Is this a bad time? I have an urgent matter to discuss with you."
Wintrystar was lounging in her nest, deep in thought when she was interrupted. Her den was never truly quiet, the constant hum of the clan below her just barely reaching her. It was a fact she was comfortable with though, a sense that all was well when the clan was that constant hum in life that buzzed over the ledge that made up her den. But now, she didn't focus on that but on where her mate was. That is until she was pulled from her thoughts by another. "No, what can I do for you Emberbrand?" She would push her worries aside for a moment, welcoming him up onto the ledge that ade up her nest and into its depth.
"It's come to my attention that Dealfinder was chosen as a mentor for my daughter, Limepaw." He paused as he entered the den, then sat down on the ledge before he finished speaking. "May I be frank? He's not a good choice for her. Limepaw has a strong bloodline, she needs a cat that will understand her; Dealfinder is an outsider and he's. .. not stable." That was the best way to describe his strange attachment to ghosts. "I'm here to request a new mentor for her, a more appropriate one."

That was the best way to describe his strange attachment to ghosts. "I'm here to request a new mentor for her, a more appropriate one."
"Who do you suggest then? Most warriors have been given a student already and few remain who could take her on." She wasn't arguing the stability of Dealfinder, if anything she'd take the responsibility of teaching a student from him as soon as possible. But she had no one else to give him to at the moment. Wintrystar eyed the tom, motioning wit her tail for him to take a place beside her as she continued to watch over the clan from her viewpoint on the ledge of her den. A common place to find her watching since they moved to this new home.
Emberbrand blinked at her, grateful that Wintrystar was understanding and didn't question him. Not only that, but she wanted to know his opinion! The dark and red tom stepped up carefully beside her and sat down, his head tilted to the side and considering. His first thought was the Heir, but he didn't want to reach so far; he had a strong bloodline but that was asking too much, he suspected.
"Agonywail would be an acceptable choice," he mused. Not pure-blooded, but a highly respected choice, and the one to arrange marriages. After Limepaw's last arrangement fell through, she would need a new mate. "Wolftundra," a strong pure-blooded warrior, "or Howlingnight." The leader's mate would be an impressive mentor, even if he did not trust the tom. He wished that Brindlemist wasn't mentoring already - the Witch's sister would be an excellent connection.
"Hmm. I will take it into consideration." She wasn't happy wit putting her mate forward without speaking to him first. Wolftundra was loyal, but he didn't seem to be one for a student. Then there's Agonywail, so much already was under the care of the knight, she would need to be sure that a student didn't fall through the cracks and their training suffer from his busy schedule. She would call for them first chance she could. Maybe even today, but so far she's not see any of the three cats. Howlingnight she saw this morning but he's been busy since then. "Was there anything else?"
Emberbrand regarded her carefully. Was she taking his recommendations seriously? He needed to advocate for his daughter, but he didn't want to push it too far and anger the leader against them. He was already taking a risk by speaking to her without asking his mate first. The dark-furred tom felt his coat prickle with annoyance at the thought. Dappledglacier was his mate, not his mother; she shouldn't be so controlling. He should have thought more of their arrangement that first night.
"No," he finally decided, bowing his head to her respectfully. "Thank you for listening."
Wintrystar nodded her head, not bothering with a verbal answer. She could see his point but also found mild frustration that he come to her at all. She'd paired the mentors and students and him coming here to seek another for his kit spoke that he wasn't happy with her choices. "Tell me, is this the first time I've disappointed you? You state you are concerned about your kit's training but is it only that?" Was he one that found fault in her as some others did? Did he question her choices? Just why did he come to her now of all times? Her mint green eyes searched his form, curious what his true intentions had been in seeking her out for something as simple as a mentor reassignment. It was as though he'd made sure to catch her alone, though maybe he truly did only feel concerned for his kit's training under a cat he didn't see fit to teach one of their status.
Emberbrand turned to leave when she spoke again, and his shoulders tensed as he stopped. He didn't look back at her, thinking this over carefully. He was not so stupid as to openly criticize the leader. "I believe you are doing your best, Wintrystar," he decided upon coolly, risking a single glance back at her while he spoke. "I wish all of my children had their mates by now, but arrangements fall through." Limepaw had been devastated when her engagement was broken off, but her former fiance had died soon after regardless. That was not under Wintrystar's control... but finding a suitable replacement was.
"I see, but you did not answer my question. I've disappointed you, in more than just this kit's mentor assignment." Her eyes were narrowed, upset that she was apparently failing her charges' eyes and frustrated that he wouldn't speak freely. She didn't mind ruling by a bit of fear but enough that she wasn't able to learn from those around her, to hear what they have to say was too much fear. Wintrystar turned her back on him, not wishing to hear any more from him. "Speak freely or leave, I have no time for dramatics or cryptic messages, I get that enough from our dear God. Love him dearly, but his words or a chore to understand." The last part was mumbled under her breath, but spoken loud enough to be heard if one wished to listen. No cat, especially WIntrystar, wanted to hear of their failures, but to be a good leader she must. How else was she to improve and gain the trust of her clan? If they trusted her, then they would feel comfortable stating things. Well, maybe not everything, as she didn't care for the minor things or simple matters, but the stuff that is of greater importance she did want to hear about from her subjects.
The tip of his tail twitched. Should he stay or should he go?
In the end, Emberbrand turned back to face her again and dipped his head. He was taking a gamble, but instead of feeling nervous, he felt a new flush of confidence.
"I don't blame you for Limepaw's engagement falling through," he repeated, "but I wish she had a new fiance by now. She's been very patient, but the loss hurt her deeply. As a full-blooded member of the clan, I expect her to find a good mate. Cottonpaw and Phantompaw are lacking arrangements as well. I'm disappointed that it's taking so long."
