Subtlepaw had been dreading this moment. She knew exactly what would happen the moment she would be given her paw suffix. She’d be announced with the other marriages that were set up and she’d have to be forced to interact with her betrothed. But she certainly hadn’t been expecting to here that she was betrothed to Deathpaw, her soverign’s son. The newly named apprentice felt herself sitting up just a hair straighter than she had been, all while doing her best to hide the shock from her expression. No doubt her parents would be pleased with the match. She could just imagine her mother’s face now. Absolutely glowing, no doubt...Subtlepaw held her head high. She would meet her mentor in good time. First, she thought, it would only be appropriate to greet her intended in an attempt to get to know him. strawberrycupid
He was proud to have risen in the ranks alongside his siblings. Proud to have the chance to prove his worth to his family and his clan. Proud to be given the chance to be more than just a hare-brained little kit. That didn’t mean he couldn’t also feel the earth give out underneath him when Subtlepaw was arranged to be betrothed to another. Granted, Chasingpaw didn’t know what he felt for Subtlepaw, if he was honest. He’d never felt anything like it before. But something sad and dark curled in his heart when he realized their friendship would probably end on this day. He had been heedless of rank and power as a child, but he was training to be a warrior now, and she was... going to be a princess one day. A real princess. Though, if anyone asked him, he’d say she already was in his eyes. The charcoal bengal shook himself a bit, offering a small smile to the she-cat and the rest of his siblings. This was how life worked. This was why in the end, the stars were a better love than any other. At least he knew why they didn’t love him back.
