"...And that's it," Cradlegrave declared, and cleared his throat. He still wasn't quite confident in the mentors he'd decided to assign the new apprentices, but they all at least had a surface-level logic to them; Grumpypaw's abrasive demeanour would hopefully not affect the stone-faced Heavypetal too adversely; Fuzzypeach had never forgotten to eat a meal in his life, which would hopefully help Sparrowpaw keep on track with hers; assigning Rustyheart to Fawnpaw would either help both of them realise their own limits or get both of them killed; and Secretpaw...well, Cradlegrave just kind of wanted to see what all the hype about having an apprentice was about. Finally, he was a part of the club.
...He didn't feel any different. Tarnation.
"Oh, and one more thing," Cradlegrave added. "I know everyone's been thinkin' about if we're gonna move again, and the answer is, uhh. Yeah, we are. Yep! But not right now. No. So just sit tight and keep on doin' what you're doin'. I love you all." He blinked. Why the hell had he said that? Now he'd just made it weird. "Alright, bye. Y'all can go now. Unless you got...questions, or somethin'."
Ghostcrown couldn't stop smiling as the ceremony went on. He was happy to see Jetfire's kits finally be promoted, they had grown on him throughout their time in the clan, but he was overjoyed to hear his son and daughter get their warrior names. "Desertwind and Spiritlake," he marveled as he wove in a circle around them, his eyes shining. "I'm so proud of both of you."
Grumpypaw, for once his life, looked pleased. "Anything to get out of the nursery," he huffed, his short fur fluffed out. He thought he was a much better faker than he was, though, his eyes darting restlessly back to his mother as he refused to let her slip from the corner of his squinted eyes.

“Grumpypaw!” Sparrowpaw squealed as she run straight towards her brother, dipping into a playful stance before she began running around him. “Can you believe it?! Isn't it exciting!” She giggled. Her body quivered with excitement as she finally stopped for a moment. “We’re finally apprentices! This is great! Mom!” The metallic pelted apprentice quickly ran towards her mother with an excited purr. “Mom, can you believe it! We’re apprentice’s now!”
"Love you too, Cradlegrave~!" Firetooth meowed back at the Deputy mockingly, chuckling as he wrapped his tail around Jetfire's. More than anything, he was both proud and relieved that the Queen's eldest litter had made it to this celebratory day. It had taken a lot of work - from the kits as much as himself - to reach this point. A soft, genuine smile crossed his muzzle as he watched Grumpypaw and Sparrowpaw's excited faces, as he allowed himself to actually relax for the first time in a very long while. "Congratulations, birdie," he meowed fondly to Sparrowpaw when she bounded over. "Enjoy this moment, you definitely deserve it."
"Hurray big sissie! Hurray big broter!" Mountainkit was vibrating like a leaf in his excitement watching the ceremonies, the ginger and cream tabby kit now weaving circles between Jetfire and Firetooth's legs before bouncing up to his older half-sister and weaving through her legs instead. He thought she looked almost unrecognizably cool and grown-up as an apprentice, despite her looking exactly the same as she had yesterday.
"Captain Desertwind! Congratulations!" In spite of all their differences, arguments, and general misadventures, Sliprabbit was absolutely thrilled for her now-former apprentice. The fluffy grey she-cat playfully ruffling the fur on his head as she padded up to greet him, before dipping her head politely to Desertwind's family. "He was quite the pawful sometimes, but you should definitely be proud, Ghostcrown. He's going to be a totally awesome warrior."

Sparrowpaw smiled brightly at Firetooth before she gently butted her head against him with a loud purr. He had become an important figure in her life. There was no questioning how much he meant to her, and she couldn’t be happier that he was a part of her family. Firetooth had taught her a lot, and she looked up to the medicine cat just as she did her own mother. “Thanks, dad!” Sparrowpaw said. The name fell from her lips naturally, and she wasn’t even aware of the action as she turned towards Mountainkit nor what they entailed.
“Just you wait, Mountainkit!” Sparrowpaw mewed excitedly as she crouched down next to her little brother. “I’ll be able to teach you everything! Hunting crouches, fighting stances! I’ll even teach you how to crack open bones to get to the marrow! It’s really tasty, but I don’t think you need it the same way I do. Oh! And I’m sure I’ll have lots of stories for you when I come back from patrols, now that I can officially go on them.” She said with a chuckle
Cradlegrave grumbled to himself as he stepped down from the rock he'd been standing on. "Shut your trap, Firetooth," he muttered, mostly to himself. It was time to find Secretpaw and introduce himself...probably. How were mentors supposed to approach their apprentice? Maybe he should've done more research.
Peachblush was just glad he didn't get assigned an apprentice. "Oh, thank the stars," he muttered to himself, and then rushed off to train his apprentice in DayClan.
Fawnkit was unhappy. "I got so excited when he called out Fawnkit," she muttered, clawing at the dirt beneath her paws. "But of course, he meant the other one. It better be me next time, I swear..."
"Hey, what's wrong with the nursery?" Melonkit said, pushing her playfully on the shoulder. "Plenty of food to go around, never have to do anything but play all day, hot moms waiting on you hand and foot...What's not to love?"
Fawnpaw was skinny little thing. She had her mother's angular face and slim frame, but her extremities were a touch out of proportion, legs and tail too long to match her torso. That being said, she was certainly a beauty of the exotic kind. Big blue eyes the color of the sky. Soft, fawn-colored fur that just begged to be stroked for hours and hours, and she'd let you do it.
The bright eyed, bushy tailed she-cat who very much looked more kit than apprentice padded up to Rustyheart with a spring in her step and a big smile on her face, skipping out on her siblings' banter and going right in to business, "Hi, can you teach me how to fight first please?" Honeystorm

Jetkit watched his older siblings get promoted with a big frown on his face. You know how when a family has two young kids, it's one of their birthday's, but the other throws a fit because their sibling got a bunch of presents but they didn't get any? Yeah, that's exactly how the young red-furred tom felt.
He was doing his best to hold his tongue but eventually he just couldn't stand it anymore, "Mom, is it going to be my turn soon?" racer

"Thanks, Dad."
Spiritlake initially smiled at Ghostcrown's approach, blushed, then returned back to her mostly stoic self. Things had been... rocky... for a time but her Warrior promotion almost felt like a baptism. New name, new outlook, new attitude. She hoped that Desertwind would feel the same way. She glanced toward him, opened her mouth to offer a congratulations, but remained silent.
Her brother had been treating her strangely for moons now and she wasn't sure what to do to fix it. Part of Spiritlake knew it was because she did something that hurt him, but for the life of her she could not remember the offense.
She shook herself and tried again, her voice light and playful, "Congratulations to you too, Desertwind. For awhile there I wasn't sure if you'd make it this far!" racerCleaver
Rustyheart understood not being treated like a normal cat, which was probably the ONLY reason she was excited about training Fawnpaw. The she-cat seemed to have a similar condition to her newly named mentor, falling unconscious with too much strain on the heart for any reason from excitement to exercise. She approached the apprentice with a slight smile, nodding slightly. "Of course." She would make sure this apprentice knew she could face anything. Well. She would. If Rustyheart had actually paid attention and tried to calm her beating heart, maybe she could have suggested they go out immediately, or in a few hours for training or something. Instead, the she-cat suddenly keeled over, fainting right in front of Fawnpaw without warning. Jadie
Grumpypaw stiffened at the words that fell from Sparrrowpaw's mouth. "He's not our father," he reminded her, staring at the she-cat in disbelief as she moved on to playing with their little half-sibling without any concern. "Bloodystar is our father." How could she forget? She didn't have to be happy about it, but she could at least be honest. The leader was their father, not the medicine cat.
Jetfire watched the ceremony from Firetooth’s side, their tails intertwined with one another. Despite having her work load doubled with two litters of kits in the nursery, she was looking stronger every day. Her coat was beginning to regain some of it’s sleek shine, her bones not protruding so much from under her thin skin, but more importantly was the nervous energy she had carried upon her shoulders was fading just as quickly. The young queen looked happier, more at peace. Not to long ago she hadn’t been sure her older kits would even get the chance to become apprentices due to their health issues, and she couldn’t have been prouder of them. Spending hours before the ceremony ensuring that their pelts were groomed to perfection and fretting over the smallest of details. But it was time to let go of some of the control, to start letting them make their own paths
”I’m very proud of you all” she touched her noses to her now apprenticed kits “it’s time for you to go meet with your mentors now” she urged with a big smile “I can’t wait to hear all about your first day of training when you get back” she nuzzled Firetooth along his neck as her younger kits began to complain about not becoming apprentices “It will be your turn before you know it” she smiled bending down to lick the tops of their heads “besides I have a super secret mission for you all to do while they are out training” she whispered softly “but we have to wait until they leave. You in?” About that time Rustyheart passed out in front of Fawnpaw and she felt her heart lurch. Should they step in?
———————> Desertwind had a pouty look on his face as his former mentor came up to congratulate him “Thanks but desertwind is the best they can come up with? WIND?!?!” The tip of his tail lashing a little bit “At least call me something cool like Desertcaptain, or Desertfire, oh or Desertsun” he wasn’t very good at hiding his emotions, and it didn’t help when his sister came over. “you to” he replied coldly, turning away and refusing to even look at her. She may not have remembered what she did, but he did and wasn’t about to forget about it any time soon. Jadie
"Thanks, dad!" Dad. Dad. Dad. DAD. Whatever Firetooth was about to respond with completely fell away from his tongue as he was struck with dumb silence, his brain trying to desperately process the name Sparrowpaw had called him. She'd said it so casually, so naturally, as if he'd been her father the entire time. DAD. Sparrowpaw had called him DAD. The apprentice had said it in the same way Spiritlake referred to Ghostcrown, with love and cheer and admiration. He was a father now! The Medicine Cat was so absorbed in his parental bliss that he completely missed Grumpypaw's annoyed and sarcastic retort, and honestly, he couldn't even think enough to care. It was only Jetfire's mildly-concerned look that snapped him out of his trance, and he flushed sheepishly at her. "I-I'm not crying," he squeaked pitifully, even though he totally obviously was.
Sliprabbit could only giggle in amusement at Desertwind's complaints; even though he was a warrior now, he was still the same Captain Desert. "I assumed your suffix was meant to reference your grandma Breezestep," the she-cat admitted with a shrug, before grinning at him mischievously. "Though if it were up to me, I would've called you Desertfrog. Or would you have preferred Deserttoad?"
"Oh dear Starclan, not again," Tinybreath groaned in exasperation as she rushed over to her passed-out sister's side, setting her white paw on Rustyheart's chest to check her heartrate. Luckily, it was starting to slow back to normal already. "Sorry about that Fawnpaw," the petite she-cat mewed apologetically, letting out a nervous peal of laughter. "She's just really excited to have an apprentice. Rustyheart'll be up-and-at-em in a few minutes, so in the meantime, how about we go fetch her some water together?" The black senior warrior smiled sweetly at the apprentice.

“Crying? Why are you crying?” Sparrowpaw chirped, quickly looking up from Mountainkit at Firetooth. “Oh no what happened?!” She squeaked. “Grumpypaw, was it something you said?” The metallic she-cat said as she turned towards her brother. “Dad is more of our father than Bloodystar is. He’s been there for us, and he’s been taking care of us and mom since we got here. Plus, he makes mom so much more happier! But we can talk about that later, mister grumpy pelt.” Sparrowpaw giggled, teasing her brother lightly before she turned and nuzzled both her parents happily.
“I’ll be sure to eat all my bone marrow before I go out and train! I’m jealous though,” She purred as she looked back down towards Mountainkit and Jetkit. “You guys get to go on a top secret mission! Will you tell me all about it when you get back?”
"FIRETOOF!" Fawnpaw called out the second that Rusyheart fell over, presumably dead. She immediately began poking and prodding at her mentor, searching for signs of life or really anything to explain what had just happened, her own heart rate picking up all the while, "F-FIREOOF!" She called again after a few moments, her kitten-lisp still all too present as her voice rose to her very distinctive shrillness, "SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH RUSTYHEART!"
The fawn-furred apprentice had begun hyperventilating by the time Tinybreath approached her. Her eyes were fuzzy, her gasping breath labored. She couldn't feel the tips of her paws, tail ears or nose, and her vision was beginning to blur. Needless to say, that meant she didn't really hear Tinybreath, although her presence soothed her greatly. Fawnpaw leaned into the black-furred she-cat to keep herself from falling over and tried her best to calm down. It wouldn't do anyone any good to have another cat passed out on the ground.
"Is she..." She managed to choke out, her voice a bit ragged, "... Is she gonna be okay?" GidgetGalHoneystorm

Jetkit pulled away from his mother's affections and sat himself down a couple tail-lengths away from everyone else. He was absolutely being a baby, but he also was a baby, and sometimes babies went to corners to pout which was exactly what he was doing.
"I don't want my mom to give me some stupid mission..." He grumbled, "I want my mentor to give me a really cool one..." racer

"Uhh... okay," Spiritlake flicked one of her ears, confused by whatever Desertwind's problem was. To her it was clear that Cradlegrave was trying to do a cute litter themed name for the two of them. Lake, wind, you know, strong forces of nature. She certainly didn't mind it.
In another attempt to repair their relationship, she took a step around Ghostcrown and brushed her cheek against Desertwind's, "I think Desertwind is a fine name! It reminds me of home." racerCleaver
Cradlegrave saw a bunch of cats hovering around Fawnpaw and Rustyheart. What a nice-lookin' celebration, he thought to himself, and smiled. Another job well done.
"If you don't want the name, you can pick a new one, like I did," Ghostcrown assured Desertwind cheerfully. His situation had been a little different, he'd chosen his name after initiating into the new clan, but he didn't see why this had to be any different. "I think they're both good names, though, almost as good as mine." He winked.
