Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Rottenfang had barely anytime to ask about what he was being challenged to do before he was made to leave to meet his challenger. He sat down, preparing to get used to waiting in the frigid cold, a process he was well adapted to. Whoever challenged him would win, that was how things worked. Demons weren't allowed to win fights, the last one who tried to win a fight was Soullessabomination and it didn't end up well for her. So he was essentially freezing his tail off waiting to get beat into the snow. Things would have been easier if he hadn't been promoted this moon, then he could have just skipped this challenge entirely. When he heard paw steps he didn't look up, it hardly mattered who it was, at least he thought so.

"Wish I knew, little demon." Blackthornfate was the first to show up to the challenge, the old she-cat tilting her head to the side as she approached him. She didn't get the whole demon stigma, she found them fascinating. They never had cats like this back when she was Witch, and away from the prying eyes of the hierarchy, she could be more lax.
"Who knows what that boy has in mind. Any clue?" She settled down on the sidelines, the sort of cold now nothing compared to what she was used to. While Blackthornfate could have called him her grandson, she didn't feel it necessary. Blackthornfate could only hope it wasn't ridiculous enough to scare Rottenfang off.
Windsweptsoul darted over the challenge grounds, a little late due to an unplanned hunt. He had caught the eye of his father this morning and had been dragged along. Now he was quite late and frankly he felt rather bad. The seal point tom figured that Rottenfang had a huge list of tasks that had been assigned by some cruel minded pure blood. Like Blackthornfate he did not get the demon stigma either and had not bothered to think that Tottenfang would be compelled to loose regardless of what he wanted. Windsweptsoul normally was so put together yet lately he had seemed like such a mess.
“Rottenfang I challenge you for you paw in marriage by means of a climbing contest. If I win we will be engaged to be married.” Windsweptsoul figured that engagement was better than marrriage as that way they could get to know each other more before actually getting married. He had been consumed by thoughts of Rottenfang since their first meeting. Unfortunately he couldn’t track down the tom to sit down and talk. So this was what he had come up with when Wintrystar announced the challenges. Every time he tries to plan a way to get to closer to Rottenfang it went awry. Hopefully this time would be different.

Blackthornfate was grateful Windsweptsoul managed to make it quickly. More for Rottenfang than herself, but the days lounging by the hot spring have pampered her too. But when he mentioned the challenge, she quirked her head to the side. Blinking slowly, she didn't raise an objection or a praise. Sure, most Winterclan would probably care that their grandson was trying to marry one of the demons, but Blackthornfate hardly cared. Instead muttering an "interesting" to herself as she waited for the demon's response.

Furorpaw was more than excited. Even if he weren’t taking part in the actual fighting he was curious to see how one of these demons fought! He had heard rumors about them, but now that he was an apprentice he was excited to see if those rumors were actually true. He found it hard to keep still, his paws working the ground excitedly.
Rottenfang leisurely stretched his paw in and out as he listened, "You're a truly crazy guy, you know that?"
His stare was like a river following a straight path. There was never any need to find a different flow because he went where the current of WinterClan demanded that he be. But staring at Windsweptsoul there was finally bend in the winding path, one to continue forward or to move into a unknown terrain. Cats were cruel creatures, that all he knew could be trusted. He had only just become a warrior this week and now Windsweptsoul wanted to be engaged with him, he was certain it was a cruel joke. Even people who wanted to be friendly with him like Roseshade still mistreated him. So why should Windsweptsoul be any different?
"I don't have any choice, let's do the challenge, but if this is a joke and you're expecting me to somehow win, don't count on it," Rottenfang shrugged, but took a double look back at Windsweptsoul, but was he serious? Kindness wasn't something he knew, the entire aspect of it wasn't even an option in his head. Every action Windsweptsoul did for him was new, unlike anyone else, he didn't know having humanity was the word he was looking for.
Windsweptsoul looked over at the smaller tom. “I mean I would hope you try you best. It is your fate after all.” As much as he liked Rottenfang, it seemed to him to be mostly one sided. Rottenfang didn’t seem to return his affection or perhaps he just did not understand how. The two did have very different family lives that shaped them. Windsweptsoul had a much more relaxed approach to life, willing to go along but not afraid to speak up if necessary. Or skirt around the rules, which he had been doing lately by leaving gifts for Rottenfang. Of course it mostly consisted of leaving prey with one bite taken out of it. He would have loved to give him little trinkets but figured Rottenfang wouldn’t understand them. So for the moment he had a small collection of little things that reminded Windsweptsoul of Rottenfang when he saw them.
“Are you ready?” He asked, looking up at the climbing wall.

Blackthornfate's tail draped over Furorpaw's shoulders. She was supposed to be relaxed, but the sound of claws on snow always bothered her. It was just a light reminder to calm down, and she curled her tail back under her a moment later. A climbing contest wasn't the most interesting, but it was probably better for them not to go back to camp all bloody. Waste of resources, it made the once witch silently calculate how best to fix them up.
Rottenfang approached the wall tilting his head up with his tail shielding his eyes to take a look. He didn't know anymore what Windsweptsoul wanted him to do, was he supposed to win or lose? His mind was close to completely overthinking it when the toms words caught up to him, it was his fate to choose. He felt weirdly afraid to be loved, it only seemed to have brought his parents misery. Even his step parents love that did work out only brought harm on him and his siblings, was there any good example of love in his life? Could he make his own good example or was that an impossible task?
"Um... Ready," Rottenfang decided with a nod. Fidgeting for a moment he started climbing when he saw Windsweptsoul move to the wall first. Rottenfang was slow, but precise, leaping up to each rock with a concentrated hop. He continuously looked at Windsweptsoul wondering if he wanted to be engaged with him, it felt frightening, but maybe because he was scared to experience something new? He decided to move at the same pace for now while he thought, but hten realized that wasn't going to get him anywhere.
"What do you like about me?" He asked as he jumped to the next rock, "I like your food," He said before thinking better about it, "I like that you make me feel wanted."
Windsweptsoul was stockier in build and perhaps a bit slower than Rottenfang would be. Of course he was trying but as he scaled the wall he realized he could have picked something more to his skill set. Then again it made more sense to do something that was a challenge for him and perhaps Rottenfang as well. The seal pointed tom always tried to go the logical route even if it ended up more confusing than necessary to those looking on.
“Well you don’t seem afraid of everyone like your siblings. You hold your own, refusing to conform and remain your own person.” He left out that he found the tom rather cute, especially sense he filled out a bit more with regular food. Or that Windsweptsoul found it adorable how flustered he got about gifts. Frankly Rottenfang deserved all the gifts, kindness, and comfort Windsweptsoul could provide.
"They're afraid of saying something, I'm too afraid to say nothing, so in that way, I'm still just as scared as they are," Rottenfang admitted as he hung in place, taking a break. He had made a lot of progress, but was too fast, now the exhaustion was finally hitting him. Staying locked in place for a moment his mind picked through his options, weighing them carefully as he watched Windsweptsoul approach him. "How do you know I'm not a gold digger? That I won't love you only for the food?" He asked, for once a rare smile teased at the edge of his lips.
Windsweptsoul kept climbing steadily, he was by no means fast like a hare but rather like the tortoise. The seal point tom was reliable, a presence that could always be counted on for help. Perhaps it was because he came from a family who cared for each other but he always prided himself on his compassion for others. "Well, I do suppose a golddigger wouldn't be a horrible choice for a first husband." He teased the slimmer tom as he looked down at him.

"Gross." Backthornfate muttered to herself at the bottom of the crag, their words to each other echoing down for all to hear. Or maybe the she-cat just had great hearing. It didn't really matter, she watched the two with a blank expression.
"Heh, yeah it would," Rottenfang said thoughtfully.
Moving up some more he would glance down at Windsweptsoul every so often, but at some point he was gone over the edge of the cliff staring down below at the tom. Extending his paw out to the warrior he relinquished a small tired grin, "I really don't get you, but how about we move from wary acquaintances to friends first?"
